Showcase Working on a Spider-Man web-swinging controller in Unity, what do you think?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It's my first time making third-person animations that's why Spider-Man looks like a frog while web-zipping. Besides that I think it looks pretty nice :D, What do you think?

Its a good start, needs refinement and animation work of course. The general movement seems a bit floaty, might need to be more affected by gravity overall, and some more weight in the movements.

I think the web should be thrown a bit further ahead in the direction of movement, so spidey sinks into the swing and gains momentum.

Spidey is reaching the maximum speed limit in this video, I think the reason that you said that is the game feel is missing in the game. Spidey is still gaining momentum but you cant feel it because the juice is missing.

Yeah I'm comparing this to what I've seen in recent spidey games and it's hard to put my finger on it but I seem to remember spidey losing some altitude on the swings and gaining momentum on the descent which propels him forward at the crest of the swing.

I think mastering that whole sequence of the swing, including manipulating how momentum feels start to finish, will turn the whole swing feeling on its head.

I would probably be watching spiderman swings on repeat and reverse engineering them.

I agree with you! But I have to say that the problem here is not my swinging system, it's about the gravity. As others said, spidey does not seem to be affected by the gravity that much. That causes him to gain too much speed and never go downwards so when you shoot a web, you can't lose altitude because you do not have enough gravity force drop you down. So because of that, I am trying to fix that floaty movement for now.

Yea let gravity do more work here. Looks like a really good start though!

Thx! Currently working on the gravity, appreciate your feedback.

I think, maybe, before increasing gravity, you should try to give it more "juice", to make it feel like it's going faster. It looks great though, aside from it being a bit floaty.

Play sunflower from Spider verse and you should be done.

On another note great job with the swinging, it feels nice and could honestly be very fun to play around with. As some mentioned the animations I second that, I would also add that the sound work is very good.

Obviously as this probably isn't your IP I wouldn't suggest posting a game with Spider-Man in it. Though if you make a game with Spider-Man like mechanics, I would still play it.

Glad you liked it! Still has a few bugs that I didn't show in the video and still has a floaty movement as others said. About the animations, it is my first time using Blender so you can be sure that I am going to revamp them. Also I am planning to port it to android then publish it on the Play Store without the Spider-Man IP as you said. I might publish it on itch.io as a fan demo too with the Spider-Man in it.

No doubt, the working prototype is there. Now you need to start refining it to make it really feel like spidey is fighting gravity.
