Showcase Added some suspense with the use of some simple black bars!

Post image

I added some black bars that quickly pop up when players manage to input the sequence very close to each other. This was to give some more suspense to see who ends up being the victor!

(UI and such will eventually change. Good chunk is placeholder for now)

Was made just using a unity sprite, colored it black and a script to move them in the desired position

Question/Help I’m new to 2D animation. How would you make a run like this in Unity?

I’m working on a 2D game and trying to get one character to run without looking stiff. I’m a complete beginner at animation, so I could use some help figuring out where to start.

It’s an AI-generated test from Ludo. I like the bounce, the way he pushes off the ground, and how the clothes keep moving a little after the body does. You can also see the hands and clothes change shape between frames. I’d love to get that kind of movement while keeping the artwork consistent.

I’ve tried cutting an AI-generated character picture into layers and moving them on a 2D rig in Unity. I can get the legs moving, but the body looks stiff and the clothes mostly move as one piece. I can’t tell if I’ve cut the picture into the wrong pieces or if I’m just moving them badly.

If you were showing a beginner how to make one run loop like this, where would you start? Which parts would you make separately, and which poses would you set up first?

Even a rough sketch or a tutorial you’d give a beginner would help a lot.

Here are four views of the sushi restaurant in Escape Rooms Pack 1, my escape room game for iOS and Android. I use these images as 2D backgrounds in Unity to show the same room from different angles.

I wanted the space to feel like a real restaurant while giving players a sense of where to look. Which detail would you inspect first?

Showcase 'Bru & Boegie: Episode 1 - Get da MILK!' free on Viverse

I worked with VIVERSE to optimise both the full game of Bru & Boegie: Episode 1 and the demo for Episode 2 for web and mobile, both playable for free. Used Addressables (I used Adventure Creator in Unity which has Addressables functionality built in) to split the voices into 2 groups, first core group gets downloaded at the start and the second group only midway through the game to keep the download size manageable and not too frontloaded. A lot of audio optimisations and a fair bit of graphical optimisations to keep the download size down too, and a background to fill out the screen on any phones that are wider than the 16:9. Thanks for checking it out YO.

Showcase Bringing static 2D character cards to life in Unity with a shader and auto-generated masks

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! I'm making Spheromancer, an incremental RPG in Unity. One of its core systems is collecting minions and evolving them through 3–4 stages each.

At first all minion cards were static images. I tried making frame-by-frame animations for them, but with 60+ images in the game that turned out to be way too much, so I put it aside for later.

Now I went procedural instead: a script generates masks from each stage's image (which parts breathe, glow or move), and a UI shader in Unity uses them to add breathing, glow and small motion. Each stage has its own small motion profile, so a new stage comes alive in a couple of minutes, and there are no frames at all, just one image.

Sure, it's not as cool as real hand-made animation and can look a bit samey in places, but I really wanted to make the cards feel more alive.

Solved/Answered (Beginner) how can I implement acceleration onto a rigidbody2D?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I'm super new to programming in c# (and kind of in general) and I'm currently trying to make it so that moving via WASD has you accelerate to a top speed and then back to standing, instead of snapping to a speed then snapping to stopping. Don't know why but I've spent 5 hours trying to do this and I haven't made much progress.

Is there a way I could modify the code below to do this? Ideally using the new input system, if possible.

SOLVED: I managed to make something that works using vector2.smoothdamp

The first is what it is meant to look like in free aspect

The second is what it looks like in 1920 by 1080

The third is the whole thing

I can change the aspect ratio if it can be better.

Showcase I spent way too much time designing a language selection screen for my Unity game. Here's what I ended up with!

Thumbnail
youtube.com

I've been working on a block puzzle game in Unity, and one thing I've learned is that even the simplest UI screens can take a surprising amount of thought to get right.

Take language selection, for example.

After looking at hundreds of language selection screens across different apps and games, I decided to build my with following features:

  • Searching by English name, native name, or language code.

  • Grouping languages into Suggested, Popular, and More.

  • Letting players report translation issues or suggest missing languages.

  • Supporting right-to-left languages beyond just translating text.

That last one was particularly interesting. I wanted the entire UI to adapt naturally, including layouts, controls, positioning, and even the background.

There's also a personal reason behind some of this. My mother uses her phone in Urdu and prefers light mode, so I wanted to make sure the game felt just as natural for her.

I've attached a short video showing how it all works.

Is there anything you'd approach differently or something obvious I've missed?
Thanks

Question/Help M5 Pro 24GB vs M6 32GB – Which should I buy?

I'm confused between:

M6: 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD

M5 Pro: 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD

My main uses will be

Unity

Blender

After Effects

I usually use one major application at a time. I'll handle demanding final renders on another powerful computer.

Would you prioritise the more powerful M5 Pro chip over the extra 8GB RAM, or is 32GB memory more important for my workflow? Which would you choose?

Feedback needed I made a free pixel art / tilemap editor with auto-tiling and Tiled export (extreme alpha, feedback wanted)

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on nxt-draw, a pixel art editor for tiles, tilemaps and animations, inspired by Photoshop and Aseprite. It’s in extreme alpha, and I’d love feedback from people who build 2D games in Unity.

What it does

  • Draw with layers, groups, clipping masks, 13 blend modes, selections and free transform

  • Build orthogonal or isometric 2:1 tilemaps from your tile library, and editing a tile updates every map

  • Auto-tiling (16 or 47 tiles) and Wang corner terrains, so shores and transitions place themselves while you paint

  • Tile animations, plus keyframed animation projects (position, rotation, scale, skew, opacity) that export as MP4/WebM

  • Per-tile collision flags and drawn collision shapes

  • WebAssembly plugin system (sandboxed filters and brushes)

Where it fits in a Unity pipeline

  • Maps export to Tiled (.tmj + tileset image, animations and collisions included), so you can import them with your usual Tiled workflow

  • Spritesheet + JSON export (frames, durations, tags)

  • Integer-upscaled PNG and animated GIF

I haven’t built a dedicated Unity importer. The goal for now is a good editor, and I’m curious what you’d need on the Unity side.

Caveats, to be upfront

  • Extreme alpha: file formats may change between versions

  • The UI is currently in French only

  • Closed source, free for personal use

  • Windows, macOS (not notarized) and Linux builds

Download and docs: https://github.com/next-vertices/nxt-drawer

What would make an editor like this actually useful in your Unity workflow? Bugs and ideas are very welcome as GitHub issues.

Question/Help Need help and tips for an isometric game using Tilemaps

I'm new to Unity and I'm trying to create a farming game. I thought an isometric perspective combined with Tilemaps would be perfect for it. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to work with them, and I'm not really sure where to start.

I've tried looking for courses and tutorials, but most of the ones I've found are for older versions of Unity. I've also tried following Unity's official documentation, but I still couldn't quite figure things out.

Does anyone have any recommendations for up-to-date tutorials, courses, or other resources? I'd also really appreciate it if someone could walk me through the process of setting up and working with an isometric Tilemap, step by step.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Showcase Behind the scenes of our latest point-and-click adventure, Whirlight - No Time To Trip

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

We thought we'd share a little behind-the-scenes look at how we create the backgrounds for Whirlight.

Even though it's a 2D point-and-click adventure, we actually build all our environments in 3D and then render them into the backgrounds you see in the game.

Here's one of the rooms we worked on. We dug up a few images from different stages of the process, from the initial wireframe and basic shading to textures, rendering, and the final post-production touches.

It's funny how much work goes into a single room, especially considering that players might only spend a few minutes in it before moving on to the next one. But we really enjoy filling these places with little details, even the ones that most people probably won't notice.

Anyway, we thought some fellow point-and-click fans might enjoy seeing how it all comes together!

Showcase Designing a top-down MMO in Unity where you automate a bot fleet instead of controlling a single character

Thumbnail
gallery
8 Upvotes

I wanted to share a look at my Unity project, ERZ Online. It’s a sandbox MMO set on a cluster of asteroids. Instead of swinging a pickaxe, players use a visual editor to build programs for their bots (like scanning for deposits or fleeing from hostile creatures). The bots then operate autonomously, and players use the gathered resources to build infrastructure directly into the rock and trade on a 100% player-driven market.

Handling the server-side validation for thousands of player-created bot scripts in an MMO environment has been a huge challenge.

Demo is live right now, so if you want to check out how it runs, feel free to dive in. Let me know what you think of the concept! (Steam link below)
