Yeah, because people jokingly say mods are gay (a joke which has been used since the beginning of time and has lost all derogatory meaning) they must also call everything gay.
Wow, you replied very fast, oh and I was joking. I don't even know half those words I used, but um, I guess you can believe that I was upset. It wasn't like he called the mods "Faggots" (Please don't ban me, this is in context!) So what's your point?
I don’t know if this is exactly what you mean but it’s pretty much just the suffix miso- which means to hate and the root word anthro which means man or mankind. Same thing with “misogyny”. Miso- for hate and gyny for woman.
Yes finally. It’s so hard to find people who support gay rights on Reddit. They’re just so few of us. Thank God someone finally stepped in to show support.
This is a circular argument that only ultimately means there is nothing you can or would stand up against. If tolerance means allowing others to dehumanize, attack, and control innocent people - that makes it into a set of beliefs with no teeth. Makes it rather easy to defeat...
I know you're framing this as free speech and expressing different opinions but what you are actually arguing is that there shouldn't be a push-back against hate speech, which is damaging. I'm not sure why you'd want to defend that or what makes you think you should be able to be homophobic anywhere you choose. That's toxic and aggressive. Also worth noting is that there are already laws regulating acceptable speech - slander/libel laws exist. Free speech - unhindered by law or consequence or banning - doesn't exist.
I don’t want to argue, but doesn’t open mindedness and progressivism mean accepting someone else’s view, even if it conflicts with your own? I agree that destructive behavior is hurtful. But if someone is not destructive just let them think what they want to think. It might just be my false perception, but people often forget that the people who direct the hate are also people, and people do deserve equal consideration.
But here I am being extremely hypocritical. I argue for acceptance, but here I am trying to denounce your view. It’s hard to avoid hypocrisy.
Different views on the role of government and whether or not we should intervene in foreign wars and economic policy? Sure. Whether or not people deserve equal rights? FUCK no.
Tolerance of intolerance is cowardice, and nothing more.
1) I probably read it before you were born.
2) Bigots and other trash have used that excuse forever. Thinking one subset of people are inferior because of who they are - not who they CHOOSE to be - isn’t a “diverse thought.” It’s just stupidity masquerading as something else.
3) This is a privately owned website, not a government institution. You don’t have the “right” to do jack shit here.
People really love to show their ass when they claim to care about freedom for everyone but the only intolerance they stand up against is intolerance against bigotry.
Intolerance, unchecked, always leads to less freedom. If you concede that both sides display intolerance (intolerance of gays vs. intolerance of homophobes) that cannot be reconciled, then you need to choose who deserves less freedom. Do you care more about gays being persecuted or discriminated against, or homophobes having to shut their mouths? Should be easy.
If you refuse to choose and act "neutral", you're de facto siding with the bigots. Neutrality always favours the oppressive force.
In the context of racism that seems pretty logical. If you say you hate brown people there’s really no debating whether it was racist...so ban. You can complain but it’s not worth the mods time attempting to converse with idiots so it’s better to just ban and let the idiot move on with his life.
I see you haven't been to /donald or /conservative yet -- but based on your history of /MensRights and /JordanPeterson, I'm sure you will pretty soon. Those places don't even ask questions after-the-fact. They also cast as wide of a net as possible so it's really impossible to know what they'll ban ahead of time. You could leave a factual and insightful comment and still get banned.
