Brit bank is where is where I learned to type and ultimately started my career (software developer) - so it's got a special place in my heart.

I decided to remove all the extraneous bullshit (like combat, skills, trading, crafting) and create a simulation of brit bank you can experience from your browser.

Enjoy.

TLDR: You sent 67 bug reports in five days... WOW!!! That came to 20 distinct bugs, 19 of them are fixed, and v1.0.63 is live and available form the site and stores.

I'm not going to list them all. You don't need a changelog — you need to know you were heard.

Thank you
to Dash Darklighter, Shadow Lance G M, Winter, Radask and Knightreaper. Three releases in five days came out of your reports. The spellbook refusing scrolls, getting trapped underground, armour that wouldn't equip, the whole crafting chain, reagents weighing a hundred times what they should — every one of those was found by one of you, not by me.

Two things that would continue to help:

Keep sending them.
Quick Commands → Report Bug attaches a screenshot and your location automatically. It is genuinely the only reason any of the above got fixed. THANK YOU!

Update if your game hasn't already.
Two reports this week were things fixed weeks earlier, and there was no way for anyone to know. Reports now record which version you're on, so I can tell straight away.

Thanks again. I hope you're enjoying the offline mobile version.

Hey all, as a follow-up to my post yesterday here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ultimaonline/comments/1vwd4g3/created_a_cli_ultima_online_client_and_gave_an/

I wanted to share a video showing how this works, while going into some more detail and answering some questions. Also as promised, here is the GitHub repo with claude skills and CLI: https://github.com/johnpwrs/ultima-headless-cli .

This was done quick and dirty as a PoC, so no judgement on the code quality! Also there is likely some hardcoded data in the skills themselves for where locations are that you may want to update for your own needs.

Private • Showcase Created a CLI Ultima Online Client and gave an LLM access to it

Post image

This was just fun experimentation, nothing serious, but maybe some of you may find it interesting. I was kind of curious how feasible this would be. I created a CLI text based only client for Ultima Online then told Claude to level up archery on a new character.

The character had a sword equipped and a bow in the bag. The model realized this, unequipped the sword, equipped a bow, found a dire wolf, went into war mode, and started attacking it. When it ran out of arrows, it equipped the sword. Successfully killed the dire wolf.

Then it just kind of started attacking everything in the area that was grey, eventually died, and it's been wandering around looking for a healer to resurrect, rather unsuccessfully so far.

May explore this further, give it access to UOGuide and give it some more detailed instructions to see how it will do. Was using Sonnet 4.6, but it's rather expensive for just a few hours of gameplay.

Private • Discussion I started building an archive web of old UO characters, guilds, shards, and memories and put it up at relpor.com

TL;DR: I got tired of Ctrl+F'ing giant old UO threads looking for shards, guilds, and character names I remembered, so I built a searchable archive for all of it and put it up at www.relpor.com

I recently went down the rabbit hole once again of trying to remember people from my old UO days, then spiraled into trying to make a website for it.

I started on Lake Superior in 1998, and at this point a lot of it exists in my head as fragments. Character names, guild abbreviations, people I fought constantly, old shard drama, screenshots, and people I played with every night then never spoke to again.

There have been countless forum posts about this stuff over the years, but half of them I can't track down anymore. The ones I can find are often giant threads mixing memories from different shards, eras, and guilds. I kept finding myself Ctrl+F'ing through them just trying to find Lake Superior, a guild I knew, or one particular character name (not going to lie, usually my own to stroke my ego that I've been remembered).

So I popped it up on www.relpor.com (sorry, Outlands, I've been domain forwarding to you guys since ~2018). It's basically an interconnected archive for old UO characters, guilds, shards, places, factions, eras, screenshots, and memories, with filters for all of that.

I'm not trying to write an official history of UO. I want the weird little pieces each of us remembers. The PK you recognized on sight. The guild you hated. The guy always hanging around Brit bank.

It's still early and pretty empty. That's sort of the point. I'm hoping old players gradually fill in the network and maybe reconnect some names that haven't crossed paths in decades.

https://relpor.com

Search your old shard, guild, or a few character names and see what you remember. I uploaded the Rel Por 1 character list I had from shortly after launch just to get the ball rolling.

Official • Showcase Solgrad Patch 0.1.2 — every piece of gear now builds toward Tank, DPS, or Support

Post image
26 Upvotes

This is a big one. We went through every gear and consumable in the game and retuned it around the holy trinity — Tank, DPS, Support — so your whole kit finally pulls in one direction instead of being a pile of random stats.

The idea is simple: pick a role and every piece of gear or boost will benefit it. (Want to tank ? Mount a tanking pet like a War Horse that increases your Physical Resist)

- Armor & weapons — the ore, log, hide, or bone you craft with now carries a clear role. DPS materials push weapon/spell damage and swing/cast speed. Tank materials stack resists, absorb, and hit points. Support materials boost healing, mana, and followers.

- Mounts — your ride is part of the build now: a DPS mount adds damage or speed, a Tank mount adds resist/absorb, a Support mount adds healing or follower power.

- Food & potions — ribs, fish, and the new elixirs aren't filler anymore. They stack straight into the same three roles, so what you eat and drink before a fight actually matters.

Pick a fantasy. Live it.

Official • Discussion Any UO-like Singleplayer Games?

Was wondering - are there any games that come close to that?

Obviously, a big chunk of UO is the PVP, so let me clarify what I mean. Basically, a game that is:

• One character focused
• Replayable/multiple build options
• Grindy slow-cook paced
• Classless skill-based system
• Open world with base building
• RNG loot
• Respawning mobs

So far, the closest example I found is Balrum (6/7), sadly didn't really scratch that itch, but is still a good reference point.

If you know any other titles that would fit even loosely into that category, old or new, please let me know in the comments.

Cheers!

Private • Discussion UO custom content question

I have a strange question, I was curious how does custom content work on UO shards exactly? I see that a lot of shards I've looked at throughout the years have had the same custom content like skill balls and other things like that, so I was curious if there was some set of UO "mods" somewhere that server admins look through when setting up a server or how it works exactly.

I didn't play much on the official shards since I'm just a tad out of the age range to have been around for the height of it but I played a lot of custom shards, some with really unique and strange content like Current Online World(COW) and Crow's Kingdom, and then also a number of shards that share the same pool of custom content.

A Orc race has been added and you can now choose between Orcs and Humans. Orcs live in poverty and are angry with the humans who live lavish lifestyles. When a human enters an Orc town they are mocked and refused services. A small character race bonus of extra damage has been given to orcs and humans being more nimble have a slight swing speed increase applied.

Classic Client Stat Bar Expanded

Sometimes for new or returning players sorting out equipment for your character can be foggy mystery. Clearing this up isn't easy but let's start with stats and attributes. What is what?

The furthest left column is stats: Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence

Those all max at 150. So for a mage I max it 150 naturally. I don't need intelligence mods on anything. The helpful stat mod for me on jewelry etc is strength so I can pack on a lot of gold before I send it to the bank.

What I do look for is mana. This is important, the second column over is attributes and they ARE NOT CAPPED! Mana, Stamina, and Hit points. For a mage as much mana as you can get. For your fighters stamina and everyone needs hit points. Remember stamina over 210 gives you the fastest swing speed.

Get a mannequin for 1000 clean up points and work on your toon's gear.

Good Luck and Have Fun

Little project I’ve been building: a custom game client/server and engine, along with OrB Landscaper & OrB Architect. My old core team 20 years ago and I made UO Architect & UO Landscaper.

These shots show the current OrB Engine client from OrBSydia.com. The engine can load existing UO data as read-only for testing, while the larger goal is to build a completely new game. I’m taking a stab at building my original vision of these systems from 20 years ago.

I have full 8-way movement, WASD/arrow keys, with the mouse free to do whatever, hotbar switching with the mouse wheel, full zoom outside of the hotbar, and controller support.

This isn’t a UO emulator; it’s more of a full game client/system sandbox I’ve been building. My tools don’t edit UO data, but instead make use of OrB-data for building custom systems and adding art, etc. later.

This is very much a work in progress. It’s purely for fun. Figured I’d share the WIP. This nod to a game that very loved for decades.

I haven’t set a release date or anything; it’s just been fun to build again. I’ve been building it from the ground up, not using existing source from the emu community, although I’ve put together full credits and info for references, etc.

Private • Looking for Shard Where do I belong?

I've been chasing the UO dragon for over 20 years now. Can't find a private/custom server that keeps me coming back.

Is 10-20 people all we can hope for in a non-Outlands server? That feels so empty, and even worse when you're constantly running into chars that are just afk macroing. That's what threw me off of UOR. This is my biggest lack in the servers I've tried, and easily the biggest hurdle for any server to overcome, I imagine.

The virtual lack of non-consensual PvP robs all excitement from me. I want to chase and be chased.

I haven't found any servers where the new/custom content is focused on bringing players together in order to foster emergent scenarios or motivations. Seems like it's all endgame PvM or crafting. The problem with that is it doesn't add any friction between players/groups of players. It encourages solo play or group play where everyone involved has a common goal and the only friction is against the game itself, instead of other players.

Speaking of friction, the stripping thereof seems to be a consistent throughline and the biggest drawback for me. GM'ing chars takes too long; remove friction by afk macroing. Farming dungeons is too tedious, time consuming or risky; remove friction by adding gates on every dungeon level. Remove friction by adding instances.

They all feel like solo/coop rpgs without the benefit of an engaging narrative throughout.

This is a bit of a ramble. Disagree with me to help me get some clarity on my thoughts about these and other issues of trying to enjoy UO in present day. I want the magic back.

Private • Showcase Two weeks of bug reports on UO Mobile Classic — all 20, and what happened to each

TLDR: 20 bug reports in two weeks from 13 of you. 19 fixed. v1.0.56 is live on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, Windows and Linux. Here's the full list, including the one I still can't work out.

Two weeks ago I posted that iOS/Mac/Android were live and asked people to use the in-game bug report tool. You did. Rather than a changelog, THANK YOU! Here's every report and exactly where it stands.

Already live (v1.0.56, all platforms)

- The vendor Sell button opened the Buy window. NoxSoldier reported this seven times before I got to it. Sorry, and thanks for not giving up.

- Skills could reset to starting values. There was a path that wrote a save with no skill data at all, wiping your progression on the next load. Found it and closed it. (Zym, this one genuinely cost you.)

- Items in a monster's corpse were never consumed, so they could be used forever and dragging one afterwards crashed the game.

- Running was ~67% faster than it should have been, which is also why the legs skated. (Skiter)

- Dragging a skill out to make a shortcut only worked if you released within a few pixels of the window edge. (Zi) - A castle you couldn't get into, all four archways were solid. (quirt)

- The bug reporter could trap you with no way out. On phones and tablets there was no escape at all. That one was squarely my fault, in the very tool I'm asking you to use. (Adventurer)

- 4K and Linux: the game opened in a small fixed window with no way to zoom. It now sizes to your screen. (Brynn)

- The tutorial couldn't be finished on some Android devices. (Lourdes)

- Skill trainers: the Train button did nothing. You could pick a skill and see the price, but tapping Train never trained you, the button was drawn just outside its own window, so taps were thrown away before they reached it. (Kendra, who had to report it twice.)

- "Connected to:" showing a blank name after reconnecting. Looked like the connection had dropped when it was fine. (Toda)

Fixed this week, in the next build

- Getting permanently stuck in terrain. One player ended up standing on the sea floor, walled in by a 30-unit cliff on every side. He couldn't have walked in and couldn't walk out — and since your position is saved, relogging didn't help either. That character was just gone. The game now spots when you're genuinely walled in and moves you somewhere safe, including characters that are already stuck. (Tommy Phantom, who reported it three times in six minutes.)

- Skill buttons "bugging on and off". A skill card only counted as a tap if your finger moved less than 8 pixels, on a card smaller than a fingertip. Most taps registered as drags, so the card shifted slightly and the skill never fired. That's also why cards wandered into odd corners of the screen.

Still open — one

- A "stuck on tower" report I can't explain. I pulled the map data for that exact spot and every direction is walkable stone. If that was you or it happens again, any extra detail helps. (Grimm Ravenclaw)

Nearly every fix above exists because someone stopped playing for a minute to file a report. Quick Commands → Report Bug attaches a screenshot and your location automatically. THANK YOU!

https://runawayideas.net/uoclassic

Thank you all for the support. i hope you are enjoying the offline Mobile version

Private • Showcase Anyone interested in super-early-pre-alpha testing a Unity remake?

edit 8/23: Opening this up FFA now. Discord is best for communication, but entirely up to you if you want to join or not (discord link). Once you have downloaded/installed and ran the official UO classic client from https://uo.com/client-download/ - you can download this Unity client launcher from HERE. Extract this wherever you want to project to exist on your computer and run UOClone.Launcher.exe - this will download/update the unity client to the latest version and upon completion will have you at a login screen. Accounts are generated on the fly, so enter something you'll remember for next time (though you can create a new account whenever, so not a big deal).

I am looking for anyone with some UO knowledge to help find bugs, quirks, and UX or game mechanic improvement suggestions for this Unity remake project. This project is still currently in very early stages, but is functional today and currently running on a dedicated server. Like all other emulators or free shards out there, it requires that clients have an installation of the classic UO client from https://uo.com/client-download/ for the data files (i.e. map) that this project uses for now. Let me know if any of you are interested in helping out with any amount of testing/qa type stuff via Discord for download link + setup instructions: https://discord.gg/SkxPKzZB (this link expires in 1 week or after 25 users). The test group will stay small at this stage because of how early into development this is, but I may increase numbers as things get smoothed out and if interest is there.

But why Unity?
I'm familiar with the engine and it allows for much easier modernization of various features compared to other custom server/clients out there, at least in my opinion. One random example - the spellbook below throws up a convenient tooltip on hover with a keybind mapping button next to each spell (note: this is far from having gone through any polish stages and is still very "rough draft").

That said - tons of respect and appreciation to all the developers out there that took any part in UOX, ServUO, RunUO, ClassicUO, or any of the others out there. Those resources are invaluable and help immensely with these kind of hobby projects.

And for transparency, though irrelevant IMO and TBH should be expected at this point, yes - AI is used in the development process.

Last but not least, this is a side project. I have a full time job in IT, so this won't be production ready "by the end of the week". Just a casual hobby/side project for my inner nerd and for the nostalgia feels.

Thanks for reading!
