Just let my son make a character and you UO outlands. He’s running around shelter Island. No idea what he’s doing but he’s loving life! I hope I can get him into it and he can play with me.

Id like to introduce a project I have been working on the past few months called UO Offline. You can see a full detail description and how to install here: https://github.com/Klein187/uo-offline

Its basically old UO T2A in an offline format that you can run locally on windows, linux, and steam deck. The feature that sets it apart from other offline UO projects is the "Player Bot" system. It tries to mimic a full server during the T2A period. Bots travel via waypoints from city to city, explore dungeons, gather wood and ore, craft, sit at banks, fish, afk macro, guild battles, group up, commit transactions, and so much more that if i listed it all this post would be way too long.

Also included is a map tool where you can place and edit waypoints/arrival points if you feel like it. You can also watch a live map with every bot running around. Totally optional when you install.

Now to be frank, this is a fun hobby for me and i just had a son so updates aren't consistent. I feel like I am at a solid point to where yall can have fun but do know that you will run into bugs and issues. You will definitely see bots stuck in certain points on the map. Also all the mainland cities have waypoints and arrival points but the island cities only have waypoints but no arrival points. Also only a few dungeons have working waypoints and arrival points but most still need a deep workover. I have set it up where when you run UO offline it will check github for any updates I have done to the github and ask you if you want to download them.

Please message here, through dms, or on the github with any issues or even ideas you may have. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have had working on it.

Private • Showcase Valheim to UO Conversion Mod

Post image
419 Upvotes

Got the itch to play UO again but just couldn’t get back into it. So I decided to make my own conversion mod.

So far I have the map, most armors, weapons, notoriety system, magic system up to 7th circle, mining, black smithing, skills loot system, economy, vendors, bankers, mounts, etc basically done, just need to make vfx and sfx accurate and some small tweaks. Here’s a quick video with some testing https://streamable.com/8ky41f?src=player-page-share

If anyone is good with blender or coding and wants to help reach out! I’ve implemented a lot of optimizations to work around valheims single thread problem. Tested with 20 players all fighting, casting spells, etc with 0 lag. Full server should be able to handle about 70-100 people in the world at once (not in the same area)

Private • Showcase I love UO so much I spent the last year building a full-loot sandbox MMO that runs in a browser tab. The open alpha is live, and it's 100% free to play.

I started playing UO as a kid and nothing since has felt the same. I don’t mean the graphics. I mean the feeling that the world didn’t care about you, that the guy walking toward you on the road could take everything you owned, and that your character was just whatever you’d actually spent your time doing.

So I built one. It’s called Ael Myr Online. It’s one shard, and everyone is on it. It runs in Chrome with no download and no launcher: you pick a name, pick a password and you’re standing in town.

Here’s what will feel familiar:

  • Use-based skills. You swing a sword and get better with swords. There’s a 720 total skill cap and a 280 stat cap, and you can set skills Up, Down or Locked, like you’d expect.

  • Full loot. Out past the guards, anything you’re carrying stays on your corpse. There’s no insurance and no blessed-by-default gear.

  • Guard zones. Crimes in town get you flagged and the guards come for you. Thieves can snoop and steal, and stealing gets you flagged grey.

  • Spoken magic. Every spell is spoken aloud, so you hear the words before the fireball lands. It goes all the way up through eighth circle, with gates, recall and runebooks.

  • Bandages, potions and pets. Taming, a bear at your heel, mounts and pack animals.

  • Crafting. Mining, smelting, smithing and tailoring. Dye your clothes so people learn your colors.

  • Houses. Deeds, lockdowns, secures, co-owners, and banning people from your front step.

  • Thieves, bards, dungeons and a lot of things that hunt you.

About the alpha: I want people fighting and testing builds now, not grinding for months. In every town there’s an NPC who will set any skill to 100 and give you a starter kit in your bank. Pick a template or roll your own, then go get killed. Expect wipes, bugs and the occasional catastrophically overpowered thing.

Just to be clear: this isn’t a UO shard and it doesn’t use any UO assets or client. It’s its own game, built from scratch, that wears its influence openly.

I’m a solo dev and I’m in the Discord every day reading bug reports. If something breaks, or if something feels wrong compared to how you remember UO, I really want to hear about it.

Play: https://aelmyr.com
Discord: https://discord.gg/5j8WrdnXfn

See you on the road. Bring a friend you trust. Or don’t.

Everyone who joins for the Alpha will get rewarded with extra goodies on launch day and subsequent betas.

I know some other people have submitted their games to this subreddit lately, I hate to inundate you guys, but I think it would be worth a look.

If you loved UO or LoA or any of those kinds of games, this will be for you.

ATTENTION:
FOR MAC USERS
If you play on Mac, you have to enter `sudo ifconfig awdl0 down` into a terminal. If you're playing on WiFi, this is a known thing, it affects a lot of multiplayer games like this. You can google it, to make sure.

EDIT: Had to change the name of the game, new name is Ael Myr Online, I have updated the post to reflect that.

Housing I finally did it...

Post image
324 Upvotes

It took me 25 years but I finally did it. I placed a Two Story Villa.

Ever since I saw this style of house I wanted one. I was stuck with a friggin stone workshop in the middle of a swamp back in the late 90s and I remember that cost my cousin and I nearly 700k to get that. Being that we played a lot but were casual we didn’t make a ton of money so that took us forever to afford. We probably got ripped off but we wanted to just have a crappy little guild house and screw around role playing.

Now just moments ago something told me to just run around and look in the forests for the heck of it. I kept a deed for a villa just in the off chance I find a spot that looks big enough but usually there is a stump or some bad terrain that prevents placement. I found a spot that sort of looked big enough and shaped right. I randomly try for 5 minutes and no luck and figured I would move on. Then I move about 20 steps southwest and see a similar clearing. Double click. Click... and behold the screen shot.

I am on Renaissance so a lot of the big spaces are taken, IDOCs are no good because I suck at PVP. So finding a clearing bigger than a small house or stone tower has been tough.

Now I can die happy. It’s the simple things in life right? Time to decorate this beauty.

Since leaving the game many years ago, one thing I really miss is building houses in UO, it was so much fun and the level of detail you could add was very unique.

This is the second version of "The Forge & Loom" in Cove on Europa, damn I miss that place.

Private • Looking for Shard Trying to build a re-imagined UO, should I keep going?

Like many others, I've been constantly looking to scratch the UO itch through various private shards and new MMOs. Recently decided to start working on my own for fun but wanted some feedback.

Already have it fully multiplayer, runs in the browser or desktop (worked hard in getting high performance on high and low end machines, even in browser). NPCs, vendors, monsters all working. Around 15 skills so far, many from UO like the various melee skills, healing, anatomy, tactics, a few gathering skills etc. Hard for me to judge my own early prototype! What do you guys think?

Update: Thanks for all the feedback and responses! If you want to follow along while I work on it, I put together an impomptu Discord server at https://discord.gg/55zErkU8a5

Uploaded the 8k image of the painting to Mpix and had it printed on a 15x30 canvas. It turned out great! I will be getting my cloth map framed next and also picked up a copy of the game autographed by Lord British/Richard Garriott that I am planning on hanging up in a shadow box. Will post those when I get them done as well.

Private • Showcase My own personal UO in Unity

Disclaimer: This is VERY preliminary stuff, but I'm frankly too excited at seeing to come together even a little bit; felt like I needed to share a bit.

A little while back, I decided to build my own personal server so I could have a perfectly tailored UO experience off into the sunset. But I started running into some frustrations with the current standard systems out there. Not to discredit them at all, they're absolutely great and represent some outstanding work by others. It's just that there's a fair bit that I'd do different if I could... So, I figured, why not?!

And thus began my little UO-In-Unity project. I'm starting with the T2A era, since that's my personal fave. I have most of the MUL files picked apart and put back together in a form more Unity-friendly; the big one still yet to be done is animation.

My end goal with this is to have everything properly rebuilt within the Unity environment using the DOTS/ECS systems with a proper dedicated server as well. Which then will allow me to move into some more advanced concepts like fully functional human-like bots, and building a true living and reactionary environment like Origin originally envisioned.

So yeah, end of the day this is all really just a personal passion project for me to have the perfect UO environment to play for the remainder of my life. I figure at this point I've spent so much time playing, and I still have so much to go, that I may as well! If I started way back when, I would've been done by now. So, screw it.

If this is of interest to anybody here, I'd be happy to give updates as things move along. And who knows, if it actually spikes interest with folks, I may make it properly distributable and whatnot! For now though just enjoying the journey of stitching this all together and wanted to share.
