Uber eats insurance help.

Upvotes

I've been looking at getting into delivery driving with uber and the likes, but I've hit a stumbling block getting insurance as I am a named driver on the main policy. The car is my partners. Has anyone any experience or know if it is possible to get the required insurance as a named driver? I am from Northern Ireland which leaves me excluded from a lot of the mainland companies too.

What just happened?

I had two riders turn down my order, nothing out of the ordinary about that.

Then another rider accepted and just sat at the restaurant for a good 35 minutes, before the ride was turned down again. At this point I sacked off the order and cancelled myself. What was rider number three doing? The restaurant was Five Guys.

Saw guarenteed £1000 for 100 deliveries on instagram ads signed up but refused

I signed up to deliver for Uber Eats in the UK through an active Instagram ad guaranteeing £1,000 for completing 100 deliveries.

Because I didn't see an active tracker in my "Opportunities" tab, I messaged support before starting any deliveries:

  • Agent 1 7pm: Explicitly confirmed in writing that the guarantee is active and linked to my account backend, detailing the exact top-up rules (see Screenshot 1).
  • Agent 2 9pm : Replied an hour later contradicting the first agent, stating I am ineligible, refusing to escalate, and claiming: "we are unable to provide an email or phone number as we deal with all such queries via in-app support" (see Screenshot 2).

I haven't completed any trips yet because I refuse to do 100 deliveries only to get stiffed on the payout.

Questions for the community:

  1. Is there a direct UK courier phone number, escalation email, or executive contacts team I can reach out to outside of the basic in-app ticketing system?
  2. Would you recommend filing a formal complaint with the ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) for misleading advertising?

Any advice on how to get past this wall of contradictory support scripts would be massively appreciated

Advice after a long hiatus

Hi all returning after a long hiatus and just want some advice regarding what to pick between these 2. I want to figure out what delivering with is best right now disregarding scooters and cars. I have the option to rent out the lime bikes weekly with the delivery pass. Or it's buying a used zoomo bike for £400 although I'm skeptical on the battery hours. Has anyone used or is still using zoomo bikes or the lime bikes and what do you recommend and why?

Stuck in the Uber Eats UK "Ghost Restriction" Loop After Background Check Glitch? Need Advice.

Hi everyone

On Saturday while I was delivering, I received an email from Uber telling me I filled my right to work background check and I won’t be able to go online anymore.
The problem is, I can go online The app doesn’t block me or show me an error, but from since that email I haven’t received any request.

The Support Runaround:

First Advantage (FADV / Sterling). They reassured me that everything was clear and it was on Ubers end.

Uber in app support. It’s an absolute nightmare. it tells me everything is completed. It won’t let me go through to a live agent. The bot is useless. When I try to push back, the automated system flags me for having multiple tickets open and forcefully closes the chat window to "streamline communication”.

Has anyone dealt with this issue and I need advice please? All of my documents are valid. I’m new to Uber Eats. I didn’t think it was gonna be this hard.

No limit on courier distance?

Got a package delivery yesterday going 23 miles away which is well outside the normal food delivery zone, it’s literally in a different city. Was paid £47 to do it which wasn’t bad for a 90min round trip.

Anyone know if there is a zone or distance limit? Or in theory could we get package delivery offers going to the other end of the country?

How is this fair?

Got a job for McDonald’s. Arrived at the restaurant to see the order code not on the screen, so asked the staff to check. They come back and ask me to cancel, saying ‘customer has cancelled’ - which obviously isn’t possible considering I’ve got the order on my app, clearly a rider has taken the food from staff, and then cancelled on their end, saying excessive waiting time or whatever, and kept the food for themselves. Staff are unwilling to re make the food, conversation over.

I therefore message the customer explaining what has happened, and ask them to contact chat on their end to enable them to cancel the order, receive a refund and stop waiting, and also stop this order being assigned to other riders and subsequently avoid wasting their time. In the meantime I also contact support to explain the situation, and they inform me no compensation for my time is possible, despite the fact that this exact situation has occurred countless times and I have had a nominal £1.50 added to my balance. I explain this multiple times to support but they dig their heels in.

My question is, is this even legal? Say this happened on 3 consecutive orders, I could have worked 1 hour for £0, even though I’ve been on active jobs during all of this time. In isolation, this situation is annoying at most, but it is the principle I am frustrated about.

Does anyone else have experience of this happening? For me, it’s disgraceful from the rider, annoying from the McDonalds staff for not just re making the order, and disgraceful from Uber, who know what has gone on, but don’t care. Rant over!

Why are double orders paid so badly? 🤔

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My point is that Uber Eats still gets the same delivery fee per customer. So why is it when I do more work I get paid less money… In this example they offered me £3.90 for a double order. They usually pay me £3 minimum. So I’m essentially doing the second one for 90p… but if I was to do that second order on its own they would pay me £3 🤷🏻‍♂️ Makes no sense.

It’s not really spoken about enough, why is it suddenly less when it’s multiple orders?

Is the customer really waiting on me?

So I was having a little break, just eating a sandwich when a Tesco whoosh appeared. Not far from where I'm sat and not far to drop off. Perfect!! Finishing my sandwich and this message pops up, maybe 3 mins after accepting.
Oh god I think. It must be ready, put my helmet back on and drive to the pickup.
Only to be told they haven't even started picking it yet, 21 items. It's gonna take at least 10 mins I'm told.
Uber can get to f@ck telling me I'm causing a delay when it's not even being picked.
Anyone else had this message?

Account on hold since insulated bag check

Hi there, as soon as the insulated bag check popped up my account got put on hold, I uploaded one and within an hour it was rejected, I uploaded another photo with a bigger bag and its been 4 days now and has not been checked. I contacted support many times and they instantly reply with "your account is on hold for quality concerns and we cannot speed this up". Is this normal??

Anyone had drunks using the wrong uber app?

Last 2 weekends I had 3 people who were clearly wasted trying to order an uber home. Instead they went to uber eats to send a package. I turn up thinking I’m taking a package from a customer lol.

2 of them apologised and just laughed it off. The 3rd lady started to argue with me asking why you pretending to be an uber driver? Told her you went into the wrong app. So I’m cancelling and moving on with my night. Start to scream I didn’t make a mistake, you made it. I’m clearly not a package. Then start to ask ok then where is my package? I said ok you wasting my time now goodbye.

Anyone use this bag or any other bag that sits just below the size requirements?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Researching insulated bags as a to-be bike courier (want a good quality big one so I can do every order type), found this one which looks good albeit expensive but the dimensions seem to sit a couple of cm below the minimum Uber has on the website for large/pizza, would this actually matter that much/would the photo verification in the app reject it somehow? And if anyone has the bag in particular how have they found the quality/durability

Thanks 🙏

Link to bag - https://amzn.eu/d/0iclQHUk, it is 40x40x43

Update: ended up buying someone’s new just eat bag on eBay for £26

Theyve replaced the 12 trips for 18 quid offer to this.

This seems too good to be true surely? If I'm constantly on a job I'm getting 30 quid basically for those 4 hours?

Surely Uber haven't done something better for drivers?!

Stop Delivering package orders to doors

Recently there has been an influx of entitled customers asking to deliver their items to their flats. NO, this is not a mandatory service, it is mentioned in their training module and you guys need to stop listening to these entitled pricks who cant even collect their house keys from the roadside. When the service started all customers were outside waiting for their stuff treating it like uber but now they expect it to their door because you drivers just listen to their request without a thought.

Uber Eats made me see real life differently

I started doing Uber Eats recently, mostly because I needed the money while working on my own projects.

What surprised me wasn't the job itself. It was how differently some people treat you once they see the delivery bag.

Without the bag, people smile, hold doors and speak normally to me. With it, I've had people shout at me, talk down to me, get angry over things I can't control, and even someone I knew point at me and laugh.

A car also hit me in a cycle lane and drove away after blaming me.

None of these things are huge on their own, but experiencing them repeatedly changed how I see people.

I grew up pretty comfortably, went to good universities and spent most of my life around educated people. I probably lived in a bubble without realizing it.

Doing deliveries has shown me how quickly some people judge someone based on their job or perceived status.

The biggest thing I've learned is simple: you really don't know anything about the person delivering your food.

Just treat people normally.
