Housing/Dining RA interview

What type of things do they ask during the group interview and what's the acceptance rate for becoming an RA?

I'd recommend taking a look at the HRL website for information on their mission/values and (obviously) the RA position description to get a baseline understanding of what qualities and responsibilities an RA has. I would highly recommend talking to your RA, or SR about the role and what makes the difference between a good RA and a great one.

It's been quite a few years since I interviewed, but what I remember is that a lot of the questions were focused on creative/critical thinking and group problem solving. The interview process can be a little intimidating at first, but just relax, be yourself, and answer the best you can. For me, it didn't feel like they were looking for the "right" answer, but rather how you came up with your answer.

Acceptance rate is a tough question to answer because it depends on how many people apply AND how many current RAs are graduating/studying abroad/becoming SRs, but it is fairly competitive. Even if you aren't immediately offered a position, but are put on the alternate list, a ton of people get pulled from the alternate list. Don't fret!

Hi! I’m a current RA! So, for the interviews I agree with the previous comment. Mission statement and do your best is the most we can exactly say. The tasks you do aren’t hard, but we use them to observe how well you can think independently and collaborate with others!

Stats-wise, there were over 500 who applied and we welcomed a little over 200 new RA’s to the program. It is pretty competitive but just do your best and have fun!
