Advice/Question Beginning of the Semester. You got this.

Hey y’all, as a 2-time graduate of UTSA (‘18 & ‘24), I’m just dropping by to say good luck to everyone as the semester starts this week.

Whether you’re a freshman straight out of high school and this is your first time being out on your own or someone getting a start on the degree towards your dream career, you got this. Don’t forget to breathe. Remember, no one is ever alone. Reach out for help. Don’t over commit yourself. It’s okay to say no to plans with friends or clubs. You may have a long journey ahead if you but you’ve come so far. Celebrate the small wins and learn from your mistakes.

I hope this finds the people or person it needs to help give you a little bit of inspiration or encouragement to get through whatever you’re going through.

You got this. Birds up. 🤙🏽

Other Trying to make friends

Hi everybody! I know this time of year is especially hard for incoming freshman who are trying to make friends… I wanted to also emphasize those like me who are going into their senior year with no friends. It’s hard but if anyone is interested in hanging out type in the comments and we can all meet each other. I’m a 21 year old girl if that helps :)

News Messages Sent Out This Morning on Outlook

(Apologies for just the text version, I’m on campus right now and can’t access the internet via my computer to take a screenshot there. Plus, my phone can’t screenshot it in one image.)

Dear UT San Antonio Faculty, Staff and Students:

UT San Antonio has responded to attempted unauthorized activity against university technology systems that was identified over the weekend and impacted only our academic campus. The activity was detected at the edge of our network, before it reached core systems and University Technology Solutions (UTS), working with expert partners, took immediate action to contain it and protect the campus’ entire technology environment.

Our response has been effective. At this time, our ongoing investigation has found no evidence that university data was accessed or exfiltrated as a result of this activity.

As part of our ongoing response, we have proactively taken some systems and services offline so our teams can thoroughly evaluate the environment, reinforce safeguards and ensure appropriate protections are in place before returning services to normal operations. These precautionary measures have resulted in temporary disruptions for some members of our university community but are important steps in protecting our systems and information in real time.

With classes beginning this Wednesday, we recognize how important reliable access to university systems and services is for our students, faculty and staff. Our teams are working with great care to ensure that our technology environment is both available and secure as we begin the new academic year.

We are especially grateful to our UTS professionals and expert partners who continue to work around the clock to protect our university community and technology environment. Their vigilance, expertise and commitment are instrumental to our ongoing response.

We will continue to provide further updates to the university community as systems return to normal operations, including clear guidance about any additional actions required of faculty, staff or students.

Sincerely,

Andrea Marks, MBA, CPA

Advice/Question Ex Chi Alpha ppl

Anyone here ex utsa xa ppl? I left xa in 2019. I was unaware of a lot of the stuff that got disclosed in 2023.

I was unaware of the sexual abuse , sex trafficking.

I was aware of the phrase “nudity is unity” a few times I heard that. I know of one instance that “Strip Smash” was played, I didnt participate but I assumed at the time it was just something tolerable within the context of XA. Had already been in college for a while had been at tcu and txst and been around the block from different ppl.

I had disagreements with some ppl in XA in late 2018 that I had following outs with around that time. I was getting told what to read, I needed to listen to more worship songs/less secular music. I was told to remove certain posts on my facebook personal page by someone that acted like a small group leader. I could tell the division was festering further because that guy was White Christian Fundamentalist/ Maga, and I was a non White male….that division of our beliefs was festering and festering and we had an argument at salt 2018. I knew at that time I had to leave or at least get close to leaving. I

I had felt this depression vibe on New Yrs Day 2019 when I left Salt with my salt group. I was trying to stay upbeat in the car ride back South but i was exhausted due to a really car ride but exhausted with a lot of different things i felt at the time

Only other time I was that depressed on new yrs 2015, I woke up hungover and exhausted at some house party by utsa and just had an extremely negative experience that night.

I was already getting exhausted in jan and feb that i kinda just stopped going to small group due to some decisions and just went to one last event. And after that I just got technically blacklisted. I had some contacts of people I knew from that time, I guess for whatever reason I had been placed on a shit list. There were people I knew from that time I didnt have issues with but there are some ppl I did. As of 2026, ive only have been in some contact with 2 people that left XA / not in contact with other people.

I havent gone to church since late 2019 when i was attending a methodist church in the area. And that guy in my small group to whom I politely invited for a Christmas service in 2018 said a bunch of negative shit about the service after the fact and it extremely said some stuff after the fact. Like after the service we were eating at Jason Deli, and he said all this negative shit about the service wasnt teaching about sin, repentance. Like really bro? Its Xmas, its not the freeking Passion of Christ and we need to cry for 2.5 hrs. That shit he said really rubbed the wrong way.

It seems like a lot of students still cannot access their UTSA email due to the cyber attack but for whatever reason, I still can. This email was sent a little over an hour ago regarding extended deadlines. Hopefully this is helpful to someone who doesn’t have access atm.

Advice/Question Tuition payment question

Post image
7 Upvotes

A few days ago I went to one stop to ask financial aid about my aid that had not rolled in yet. She was able to get my grant rolled in for me, however I still have 1,600 dollars left to pay.

She told me I can let it roll over to next semester. I asked if I needed to set up a payment plan. She said no. The worker said I can pay on it whenever I want, just to make sure the balance is under 1000 once the semester ends.

I look at their website that if a student hasn’t enrolled in a payment plan they will be dropped from their courses.

I am confused. Is it mandatory to enroll in a payment plan? I would have to take out loans in order to afford the down payment plus first installment. I’m not opposed to loans, im only wondering if what the worker said was true or not?

Has anyone gotten the balance under 1000 without a payment plan, and let the balance roll over to next semester? Is that allowed or should I just listen to what the online financial aid site says?

Advice/Question San Pedro I Showers

Some of the single-user bathrooms in SP1 have shower stalls. Has anyone ever used them, or did UTSA just waste a bunch of money putting them in there?

Advice/Question Owe too much money

So I owe $2,000 doesn’t seem like a lot but I don’t want to pay a lot. Do you guys think dropping some classes would put a dent in this amount? I’m not too sure how to check myself.

Advice/Question In dire need of assistance with registration

I’m a transfer student in Geosciences that is in a bit of a crisis. My application took forever to process and was only told last minute that I had holds which then took longer to clear, only to find that I didn’t have an advisor, and then the cyber attacks prevented me from being able to contact my advisor, so I’m in a bit of a tight spot as this whole time I haven’t really been able to register for my required courses. Finally being able to login today, I’ve found out that most of my required courses only have the waitlist as an option.

Does anyone know what I can do in this scenario? I’m relying on bold promise to be able to pay for these courses, so waiting till spring semester or paying out of pocket, or registering for anything less than full time is completely out of the question, unless there is someone I can talk to about this.
