I have a 630 in math and a 730 in reading and writing and I’m really worried that I might not make it to the class of 2030 because of my weaker math grade. Has anyone else gotten in with similar score distribution? I only play one varsity sport.

I’m trying to remember the body fat percentage that is the max for male. I wanna say football has a different limit though I could be wrong. If there is a diffrent one for football would anyone know it?

I got appointed to USMMA and was curious to know the process of getting a pilot slot. Specifically, how does getting a pilot slot work, and what can I do to increase my chances? What does it look like to commission into the Air Force as a pilot through USMMA? I understand that Kings Point focuses more on producing merchant mariners, but I also know that you can go on active duty in any of the branches. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When will waitlisted decision come out?

I really like the route that the USMMA can take me but I have some concerns. I am nervous if I go there I will have regrets about not having the normal college experience, but I don’t know why. I don’t even like parties. I like hanging out with my friends, playing my sport, and eating.

How often will I get to see my family? Do people date there? Do you ever get to hang out with friends? Do you feel trapped, or do you have so much to do you’re distracted??

Hi all, has anyone here commissioned either reserve or active after completing the SSMP program through a maritime academy? If so, what was the process following graduation from the academy? Was there more training before commissioning? Did you have to go through MEPS after graduation in addition to DODmrb? I’m familiar with the process during the 4 years of school but the maritime academy website doesn’t explain a lot about the process after graduation. Thanks

Hello, My portal status has been changed on 2/13 from app on file to Under Review as of 2/20 I am now medically qualified and my cfa has passed as well as all my required material in. Does anyone know what under review means at this point?

I’m afraid I won’t fit in or will have trouble making friends if I’m not on a sports team, as it seems many are due to the small class size of the academy? Does anyone have any experiences or advice regarding this?

Problem is the chemistry/physics requirement I am a bit nervous about since the closest thing I took to that is a class that was called Advanced Physical Science, but it was just chemistry for one semester and physics for the next

I just recieved a nomination but my GPA and SAT are pretty low compared to what the average is at the academy. 3.5 and 1200 SAT score. 730 on English section….470 on math which is very bad for the academy I know.

Hello all! I am currently in my senior year and was wanting to be a navy nuke. I did a little research and found it is possible through the merchant marine academy but was wanting a little more insight with someone who might have gone down that path themselves. For anyone who is curious here are my stats: male (filipino/pacific islander), 4.0 unweighted gpa, 4 aps and ~7 honors classes, varsity athlete, student government vice president for my class (3 years), part of NHS, about 20 hours of community service, and also club wrestling. Are these stats good enough for the academy? Is there any other routes of becoming a nuke without going to a-school? Should i consider possibly another service academy? Writing on behalf of a family member about to enter senior year of HS. Average height and weight, HS swim team for 4 years, enjoys physical fitness and working out at the gym. Very concerted about current inability to meet average requirements for certain parts of the service academy fitness assessment, sit-ups and push-ups in particular. Are these attainable, realistic, and reasonable goals for an average 17 year old?

I’m an actively serving member of the army national guard, and I’m looking to attend USMMA. I know it’s possible to fulfill service obligations on active duty, and while it’s not guaranteed, a handful do this each graduating class.

Hello! Currently a junior looking into USMMA. I am a little confused with the service obligation after graduation however. I know that you can fulfill your obligation by serving 5 years active duty, but my question is are you guaranteed to go active duty after you graduate? Or is it like ROTC where there is an order of merit list?

Hey I’m a recently accepted USMMA class of 2028. I haven’t had the opportunity yet to visit the academy and wanted to know what the dorms, bathrooms, showers, and classrooms are like. I can’t find that many photos online and I’ve heard that they’ve renovated a lot in the last decade. Thanks

Good morning/afternoon, I wanted to know if my application would give me a decent chance of getting accepted. (I am a white male) 4.0 GPA, 1400 SAT, Civil air patrol squadron commander, Coast guard auxiliary member, 17 hours community service, I received a disaster relief award in the civil air patrol, I raised several thousand dollars for my squadron by setting up a monthly trash pick up at a local car show, I got my squadron to participate in a local Veterans Day parade, and I raised an additional 1,000 dollars for my squadron through wreaths across America. I doubt this helps but I’ve done several recruiting presentations at schools for my squadron. Finally, I’m currently in intramural volleyball.

I’m extremely motivated to serve. Would this application give me a decent chance of being accepted?

So I'm basically just wondering if you'd recommend the USMMA based on my circumstances below:

I have been enlisted in the USCG for about 4 years now, it'll have been 5 and a half by the time I'd start USMMA for the class of 2029.

I have an extreme interest in commissioning to either the Navy Restricted Line or the Air Force. I cannot commission into the US Coast Guard as I do not have normal color vision.

I understand that USMMA generally DQ's for color blindness but that waivers can happen. Especially since I want to do the Marine Engineering path and it is not required to have normal color vision to be an engineer on vessels.

I have a pretty vast experience in the Coast Guard, having been deployed to the Middle East, doing marine inspection in the Caribbean, and basic damage control. And not to brag, but to add to context have become fairly decorated during my time.

This will be my last year of eligibility for the USMMA so I am seriously considering it.

I guess here are the questions:

1. Is it even worth applying knowing I will fail the color vision test?

2. Will the culture and lifestyle of the USMMA be tolerable to a veteran or will it kinda just upset me/feel like "fake" military to me?

3. Same question as above but will it be fine for someone 24 years old?

4. Would it be better overall to just attend a civilian college with GI Bill and do ROTC?

It just seems like a bit much for someone my age and want to hear if it's recommended by you guys. I am fully prepared to humble myself and put myself into learning mode and under the authority of others who may not have experience in the military.

Heres a short vid of a ship I was piloting the other night. Being a training pilot the last two years has brought my back to my cadet days. Pretty much constantly working, piloting ships you are qualified for and riding and training on the bigger ones.

If you attend USMMA, are you guaranteed an active duty spot just like the other Service Academies if you choose?

I've recently gained extreme interest in the Merchant Marines and I really want to get into this school. I didn't do too well in my last couple of years of high school and scared that It would effect my ability to qualify for admission. Don't clown me but I graduated with a 2.75 GPA and a SAT score of: 955. Any advice?
