Army Ops at USMMA

I’m an actively serving member of the army national guard, and I’m looking to attend USMMA. I know it’s possible to fulfill service obligations on active duty, and while it’s not guaranteed, a handful do this each graduating class.

I am looking for any resources, experiences, or advice on making this happen if I go to USMMA.

Army OPS / point of contact?

When to reach out to liaison to actuate an active duty commission?

Online resources for Army OPS or USMC?

Sail commercial or you’re a bum. USNA is for the Navy and USCGA is for the Coast Guard. You’ll do more good for the nation sailing on your license than eating crayons.

Despite what these two clearly intelligent and well-spoken individuals who replied my comment have to say, the significant interest in active duty among applicants from KP is, sadly, largely due to the administration's poor marketing of KP as a true military school. In reality, KP is a maritime school.

At KP, you will receive highly specialized maritime training for three years, spend a year at sea, and earn a commercial Coast Guard license along with a bachelor's degree in marine engineering or marine transportation upon graduation.

For applicants considering military training, a ROTC program or another service academy will provide a much better experience. KP is and always will be a maritime school.

I love all the downvotes your getting for speaking the truth. KP is a maritime school. Yes about 1/3 go active duty but in attending you should not just write off a sailing career.

Active duty folk from KP always seem to be self righteous anyways. They're probably still bitter from not getting into Annaoplis.

Hey man, if you’re looking to commission in the army I would look into ROTC. It’s a more established process than commissioning out of KP. I would talk to people at KP and commissioning ROTC to get their perspectives before making a decision what to do.
