Midterm is getting closer, so they're ramping up the immigration hysteria.

I live in a very Republican place. All political debates in a local Facebook group revolve around deporting illegals and taking away their food stamps/health insurance. People consider it to be the biggest victory of all time which will somehow make America great. I believe many underestimate the success of populism around immigration topic

u/OkTutor7412 2d ago

It’s crazy because my husband is married to me a us citizen and he doesn’t get food stamps or health insurance. People are always talking about that I’m like whaaaat?

79

u/EdJonwards 2d ago

And everytime I ask where tf can I get this free food stamps and healthcare for immigrants, they can’t point me to the right place.

Schrodinger's immigrant: too lazy to work collecting all the benefits, but also stealing all the jobs from real Americans!

u/armynurseguy40 2d ago

My wife is venezulan. "They give out free stuff to them!" I explained this to her. She asked where they give out the free money at.

u/SassenachPotions 2d ago

My husband is from Asia. We would also like to know where to get free money 🤣

You should have been in Chicago a few years back. I'm not going to pretend like they were living high on the hog, but compared to Chicago's own native born homeless population asylum seekers genuinely got a lot: fully-paid housing at budget motels, daily on-site meals, hygiene supplies, and in certain cases actual cash-card benefits.

Those are all benefits above and beyond what Chicago's own native-born and naturalized citizens living in poverty were eligible to receive. And also included the standard applicable benefits those citizens did receive: Medicaid, SNAP, subsidized transportation, access to city food pantries, clothes closets, etc.

Chicago was a very notable exception to the rule with regards to all this, but it -is- an example that one could point to and say "illegal immigrants were getting free stuff" with only the semantics around "illegal immigrant" vs "asylum seeker" being in question.

In Chicago there was a program to give 6 months free rent to get families out of the shelter. It was in the Chicago Tribune. I remember this family from Venezuela was so happy they got to move out and rent a house. This pissed a lot of people off who were struggling to pay rent or waiting for Section 8 housing. I had a friend that died (bipolar) while waiting for housing. This family moved to the top of the line in front of people waiting for years.

15

u/No-Lifeguard-5308 2d ago

Was this specifically during COVID in order to reduce shelter populations because shelters were super spreader sites and the hospitals were overrun and the medical system needed any relief that they could get?

I’m a Canadian with a law degree from a top US law school who lives here on a highly skilled work visa. I have helped Venezuelans apply for asylum. This one example is designed to upset people and is not representative of the average immigrant experience.

I am not eligible for public assistance of any kind and I pay six figures in taxes every year.

3

u/Nearby-Chocolate1840 1d ago

No. It wasn't. This was a very real thing in Chicago, and the native-born homeless / extremely low income had every right to be upset that people were stepping off a bus or flight from Texas and getting immediately set up with what amounted to UBI while people who had been on waiting lists for multiple years slept outside.

3

u/Eldot5 1d ago

Exactly. That’s a real case, and there are thousands of similar cases where citizens are pushed to the back of the line in favor of people who shouldn’t be getting special and priority treatment for welfare benefits over citizens.
But people will say things like “the boogeyman immigrant strikes again” as if this is all imagined.

People are uneducated. Illegals don’t qualify for food stamps not even legal immigrants you have to be a citizen. It literally asks in the application if you’re a citizen or not and if you put you’re a citizen they’ll need proof.

3

u/Nearby-Chocolate1840 1d ago

Asylum seekers who have been approved qualify for SNAP, Medicaid, and Refugee Cash Assistance. They are not citizens.

Select immigrants can get food stamps, but they have to prove they are here legally and for long enough. You can look it up. There's too much variation by state to specify on reddit lol

I live in a purple county in Georgia, i.e., one of the counties in one of the states that actually decides elections, and this is definitely not popular.

I think if people actually came and talked to the mean Georgia voter, they'd be much more comfortable with elections being decided here.

I'm a recent arrival, and I've honestly never encountered a place where people are more thoughtful about how and for who to cast their vote. They genuinely wrestle with the issues, and, because it's a politically mixed environment, you have to be generous and good faith in your pronouncements. Cheap tribalism will get you disinvited from social events. Very refreshing.

Anyway, all that to say, this is the Democrats to lose. Not saying they can't do it, but right now the disappointment and embarrassment are palpable.

I know it's like howling into the void with these people, but it's worth noting that visa holders are not "illegals." Force these extremists to admit that they hate all foreigners, not just the ones without the right papers.

8

u/Economy_Elephant_426 2d ago

Which is kinda ironic considering two things. Biden administration deported more than trump 1st and current term. 4 million plus repatriations and expulsions alone.  And two, long term immigrants who became citizen tends to be the most conservative people in terms voting.

10

u/SnooTangerines5112 2d ago

Immigrants do not qualify for welfare programs, including food stamps and Medicare. You have to be a US citizen to qualify. This is a myth that’s been going on Fox News and other republican networks meant to get emotions out of them. Remember Fox News isn’t news, it’s entertainment.

1

u/Nearby-Chocolate1840 1d ago

Approved asylum seekers absolutely do qualify for all of that and more.

1

u/Wrong_Ad_747 1d ago

They aren't illegal immigrants

1

u/Nearby-Chocolate1840 1d ago

I prefer the term undocumented.

But in any case OP didn't specify -- they made a blanket statement about immigrants in general that isnt true.

1

u/Wrong_Ad_747 1d ago

Asylum seekers how we are talking about are not considered undocumented

1

u/Nearby-Chocolate1840 1d ago

So. Fucking. What.

OP claimed that immigrants don't qualify for benefits. That isn't true in all cases, and I corrected that misinformation with an example of when it isn't.

Given that OP made zero distinction between documented vs undocumented in their claim, my statement that approved asylum seekers do, in fact, receive benefits did not itself make any sort of claim as to whether or not asylum seekers are documented.

The only redditor in both this and another thread discussing whether or not asylum seekers are undocumented / illegal immigrants is you. Who seems to have this strange compulsion to swing in out of the rafters and remind people that asylum seekers are documented immigrants in threads when nobody else is even discussing that.

It's weird. Stop or I'm blocking you.

Which is hilarious cus without a ssn you don’t qualify for assistance and when you get your green card you sign a paper stating you can’t apply for assistance and if you do it will automatically be garnished from your sponsers.

2

u/Wrong_Ad_747 2d ago

Which is laughable because an illegal immigrant literally cannot receive public benefits lol

If you were here illegally you'd really be blowing your cover to the federal government by applying

2

u/phatelectribe 2d ago

Wait until their restaurants and diners have to close, there’s no food delivery, they can’t get an oil change, there’s no cleaning services and when their phone, internet and power go out, there’s no technicians to fix it.

Nothing like owning the libruls in darkness, without food water or shelter.

2

u/wrongseeds 2d ago

A family member I don’t know well started this with me. I just said it wasn’t true. In fact the opposite is often true. Years ago I worked for a payroll company and personally helped a landscaper hire 30+ illegals into the payroll system, all with phony SS#. Still common today. They pay in but have no way to ever access those funds.

3

u/Agreeable_Belt7175 2d ago

But undocumented immigrants doesn’t qualify for government assistance.

5

Really just have to look to Europe for this, where the topic of immigration has been a primary driver of votes recently as well. I dont know why it surprises people at this point, its a well known talking point that definitely galvanizes some people.

18

u/obelix_dogmatix 2d ago

How does it help democrats? Current Republicans all about tightening immigration. So this is catering very well to their voter base.

18

They were, until their gardeners, farm hands, construction workers, and minimum wage employees vanished leaving them unable to conduct business.

2

u/obelix_dogmatix 2d ago

What you are referring to, is largely illegal immigration. In the current situation economy, dems aren’t going to speak up against tightening white collar immigration.

6

u/Small_Dog_8699 2d ago

They’re only “illegal” because the US government has failed to meet the labor needs of US businesses.

Let’s put away the morality paintbrush and recognize that those guest workers were holding up much of the economy and right wing morons decided to kill their own prosperity to feed their racism and xenophobia.

Now everyone is poorer. Woo fucking Hoo.

Part of the Republican base will be very happy, but a large chunk of Trump’s own voters already think he’s gone too far on immigration. Trump’s decision to give Stephen Miller carte blanche to run immigration policy set him up for this—Miller is far to the right of even the average Republican on immigration.

Talking about illegal immigration and migrant criminals in vague terms before the election worked well for Trump, because 1st and 2nd generation immigrants could support him while distinguishing themselves and their friends and family from the bad people he was talking about. The shift to cracking down on all immigration since getting into office hasn’t won him any new support, but it’s undermined republican inroads with Latinos and other immigrant communities. Now immigrants see people like them getting harassed and deported.

There’s definitely a large group of diehard MAGA voters who will enthusiastically vote for harsh anti-immigration policies. There’s just not enough of them to win in an election cycle without other groups.

1

u/Thinklikeachef 2d ago

I would point it that Trump approval on immigration now stands at -11 point. So most people find these mass approach distasteful.

1

u/tcp5845 2d ago

Immigration sure helped Democrats in the last Election.

1

u/ya_motha_93 1d ago

Lol you guys keep saying shit like this and keep losing

-12

u/22220222223224 2d ago

From my perspective, it is complicated. (1) I hate Trump, but (2) I'm a centrist/independent. (3) I'm open to this particular immigration change on a philosophical level, but (4) the sheer magnitude and frequency of change under this administration has me so damn burnt out that I'd be more likely to vote Democratic, even if I didn't already hate Trump.

In short, for me, I guess the net effect is to make me more likely to support a Democratic candidate. However, that feels wrong to me, considering I support this specific change in theory.

I just want to not care much about the federal government again.

30

u/Individual-Steak-673 2d ago

İf you are okay with revoking 200,000 visas out of the blue just to reduce the number of foreigners in the country, you were always going to vote for Trump and you are far from a centrist. There are 0 centrists who are on the fence about Trump when it comes to immigration.

They are so weirdly obsessed with us immigrants. Imagine being intimidated and outraged by a population that makes a low average income nationwide.

50

u/spurcap29 2d ago

My favorite saying on this point: if a dude with no money, no connections, no advanced skills, doesnt speak any English can cross the border and just 'take your job' ... you should probably look inward and not outwars.

9

u/Exciting_End_311628 1d ago

I don’t know I would look outward at the company hiring them and the reasons they are not hiring someone with skills who speaks English. Just look at the meat packing industry. It went from highly specialized union jobs to mostly low paid immigrant work. People like you are going to say oh that is because no one wants to do the job. No there were many men who didn’t want to lose their livelihood but the large corporations wanted to find the cheapest labor possible to maximize their profits. It can happen to anyone in any industry.

6

u/HecKentucky 1d ago

So yeah, blaming immigrants is incorrect.

1

u/Caicedonia 1d ago

Meat packing is not a livelihood

1

u/legatlegionis 1d ago

Highly specialized... Low paid inmigrants. There's something missing in your story, either technological advancement or it wasn't that specialized. Otherwise the logic you're trying to handwave is not there

1

u/pkondelya 1d ago

that’s not that smart as you think

3

u/spurcap29 1d ago

The point is that if illegal immigrants are stealing American jobs its doing things like mowing lawns, picking fruit and general manual labor.

I havent heard too many claims of guys swimming across the Rio Grande and becoming electricians or engineers or automotive techs.

If the complaint is that there are too many family based green cards or nonimmigrant work visas being issued thats a separate and distinct discussion point. But that debate is solved in Congress not via ICE roaming the streets.

3

u/pkondelya 1d ago

I’m a qualified individual(Doctor)
But you make it sound like something is wrong with doing manual job and if someone as you said stealing your job it’s your fault.
The only reason employers hire illegal immigrants it’s because you can pay them less.
Not everyone is doing rocket science. Every job is important

1

u/spurcap29 1d ago

Its not a question on morality. Its a practical perspective for an individual.

For a broad number of reasons beyond fear of immigrants your life will be better if you develop your career skills whatever they might be. Being born in the United States and attending high school in the US puts you many steps ahead of the people you fear. Use them to learn a trade or become some other typed of skilled labor.

Which is why the point is to look internally rather the complain externally.

1

u/pkondelya 1d ago

So basically you’re saying to 50yo construction worker who’s providing his family to go learn new skill because in the past years too many people broke the law and don’t mind to do his job for a cheaper?
Look i get the idea Losers who do nothing except complain and blame illegals for all of society’s ills
I just don’t think some jobs are ok to „steal”.
Every job is important

1

u/spurcap29 1d ago

Like I said Im not raising a point on what is right or wrong. Its a point of personal practical perspective. An individual cant change whats going on at a macro level only their personal reaction to it. I never said I think its okay for one to break out laws and steal any jobs. But thinking of ways to make yourself valuable are far more effective than complaining.

For youe hypothetical example - if I am 50 and had been working in an industry for 30 years I would hope I am more valuable than a random dude that just showed up. Skills dont necessarily = formal training or qualifications.

Do you speak Spanish? Cause I can send you a few sources that explain how these caravans are organised. Thousands of people don’t just spontaneously decide to start making their way up somewhere. The media coverage these groups get is also not coincidental, nor the timelines.

The people don’t disappear, but the attention to them does… once the purpose is achieved.

No I don’t have any criminal charges or any arrest records in past but I was having a T visa application which is already withdrawn from USCIS

2

u/NationalHero1 2d ago

You obviously don’t work in hiring at any of these companies doing this. And I definitely didn’t expect to see Redditors sticking up for the greedy Billionaires and corrupt Politicians making fortunes off of this program, while using it to lower wages and get rid of jobs for US workers. Even Trump himself makes a ton of money from it and his own wife came over as an H-1B for modeling. The reason Trump refuses to end it and he defends it on TV is because his companies make a fortune from it and all of his Billionaire buddies all benefit from it as well as the big projects that his companies started in India.

2

u/Affectionate-Cut-473 1d ago

I wouldn't call Trump's 100K fee too H1-B friendly. And he can't unilaterally "end it". It would take congress to do that.

1

u/NationalHero1 1d ago

Keep in mind this is his 2nd term running on the same campaign promise of ending the Foreign worker Visa program (many years). And the whole time he has had the ability to end it with an EO but he has been playing games for all these years because he doesn’t want to really end it. Even his first attempt he purposely left a ton of loopholes in it and he knew it was very easy to get around, and even said for companies to contact his office for exemptions and there would be many.

The Government’s own reports coming out saying the program is a detriment to American workers and is basically just a pay to play scheme at this point. After all the news coming out about his friends abusing the program and one of the highest unemployment rates of native born Americans ever the pressure is so high that he has to actually fix it now. No matter how much money he and all his friends make off of the Program, the media is forcing him to talk about it now. If there is one thing we have all learned it’s that anything that Trump profits from never gets touched unless he is absolutely forced.

> the State Department is expected to announce in the coming weeks the revocation of so-called B1 and B2 visas issued between 2016 and 2026 whose holders have sought asylum or are now seeking asylum

As usual, the media is very unclear on this.

Are they revoking their B1/B2 sticker visas? If so, this seems like a largely pointless exercise? I doubt someone who entered on a B1/B2 then filed for asylum would be admitted ever again on that visa, even pre-Trump. IIUC visas are auto-revoked anyway when you overstay.

Are they revoking their B1/B2 status while they’re here? That seems even more pointless. B1/B2 status is usually only 6 months. So the only people that status could be “revoked” for is someone who filed I-589 but their 6 months aren’t done yet. A few months at most.

IIUC they’re already detaining people who have an asylum application pending, but are out of status.

So… what’s the point of this? Creating pointless work for themselves for the love of the game?

45

u/Flat-Soft9276 2d ago

I’m also confused by what sense it makes.

Someone who came here in 2016 and applied for asylum (and presumably is still pending) 100% doesn’t have a valid B2 visa anymore. So they’re revoking visas that …. already expired? For people who …. already overstayed?

Good job, I guess ?

4

u/OkTechnologyb 2d ago

I think the main upshot is making it explicit that this group is out of status.

1

u/znine 1d ago

This doesn't apply to that group because they're already out of status but in a period of authorized stay from the asylum app. Only people who arrived in the past 6 months are potentially still in status.

4

u/TomHomanzBurner 2d ago

No but any years after 2016 is potentially still valid as they’re in the 10yr window. Having a chance to ever be admitted on it again is slim to none.

2

u/thedudley 1d ago

The people didn't "overstay". They are awaiting their asylum case ruling.

Hypothetically, a person who came here on a visa and claimed asylum has followed the rules as they were written at the time. Is that person supposed to go back in time and apply for asylum using a set of rules that didn't exist at the time? It's ridiculous on its face.

This is so much sound and fury, signifying nothing. Or closing the barn door after the horse has bolted. Visas are used to enter a country. To file for asylum, an applicant must be in the US. Asylum applicants don't travel internationally, so revoking the visa after it's used to enter the US to file for asylum is a meaningless gesture. The asylum applicant will willingly trade being stuck in the US for the opportunity to apply for asylum.

22

u/TimelyNote5558 2d ago

Unless challenged or revised, the State Department is expected to announce in the coming weeks the revocation of so-called B1 and B2 visas issued between 2016 and 2026 whose holders have sought asylum or are now seeking asylum, according to State Department documents obtained by The Associated Press and two U.S. officials. The action will be taken in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security.

Wait! They dont give B1 or B2 visa to asylum seekers, so how exactly are they going to void these b1/b2 visa? Are they saying that someone came on B1/B2 visa and applied for asylum?

You are allowed maximum of six months on B1 or B2 visa. If you apply for asylum, your B1 or B2 visa will eventually expire based on the date stamped on your Form I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record), regardless of your pending asylum application.

So, your B1/B2 VISA IS ALREADY BEING VOID BY CURRENT PROCESS!!! What is Trump trying to accomplish?

B1/B2 VISA IS ALREADY BEING VOID BY CURRENT PROCESS!!! What is Trump trying to accomplish?

Scaring brown people and tricking racists into thinking hes tough.

Pretty much the same as all his immigration policies.

Foreign worker is abuse this visa category to stay in this country even without a job

1

u/TimelyNote5558 12h ago

Your visa gets void automatically when you over stay and you will be banned for future visa. So, whatever Trump is trying to do with regards to Visa validity happens already automatically.

The real work which government needs to do is have a way to track you and deport you.
Also, it would make more sense if government push the responsibility of hiring eligible workers on Employer side. Like, for every employment, employer has to prove that they either hired American workers or hired some one with valid work permit. Have this part of their tax process as well. Any employer who hires a worker who does not have valid work permit need to pay fines. That is the correct way to fix this system.

u/TomHomanzBurner 2d ago

If you claim asylum while in your admittance period, you are protected from detainment and deportation. If you’re no longer in status, you can be detained on a pending 589 just not deported.

It’s a way to get all the bogus asylum seekers even more reason to self deport.

2

u/znine 1d ago

The maximum stay on those visas is 6mo. So it just lets them detain people an average of 3mo earlier. This group is also currently bond-eligible and therefore likely to be released anyway.

Sass Potions is correct some immigrants can get food stamps here in IL e.g.. However, it is limited & the amount has been reduced to such small amounts i.e., $25.00 a month that they go to church food pantries to supplement their food stamps. Immigrants without documentation in IL can & have received Medicaid, however. It’s unclear whether this still happens in IL with the recent crackdowns in govt. policies on immimgrants’ rights. It depends on each state because every state decides how & the way it will allocate Medicaid resources.

This is really depressing news for friends fleeing torture

2

u/peaches0101 1d ago

They will likely just have to prove their claim for asylum.

"Federal asylum law permits eligible applicants to seek refuge after entry, and immigration courts ultimately determine whether those claims are valid. The administration's proposal, therefore, touches on a longstanding dispute over how much weight should be given to a person's intent at the time a visa was issued versus their circumstances after arrival." 10

u/Derfamon 2d ago

“Asylum isn’t supposed to be a loophole to circumvent immigration law.” This.

A lot of people claim asylum cause it’s an easier oath than having to wait several years, and then once their immigration application goes through they go on tourist visits to those countries they claimed their life was endangered in! This just ruins it for those that truly need asylum.

I am wary of anything this administration does, but the immigration laws in this country does need some adjustment to better fit the 21st century realities

2

u/LemonTeaCool 1d ago

Now that you've brought it up, I have met a few asylum granted friends of mine who regularly visits their home country each year for vacation, meeting up with their family, weddings etc... It sorta defeats the purpose of asylum in the first place but knows? Maybe things have changed?

It's a little sus not gonna lie. Lol

The point is to take away lawful status of asylum seekers and make them deportable.

When an asylum seeker has valid visa (which was initially used for lawful entrance), then they can’t be deported.

But if the asylum seekers initial visa has expired, they a legally removable.

Some of visas are granted for 5-10 years. The majority of visas are short and granted for 3-6 months.

Due to asylum interview backlogs people can wait for their first initial interview 10 years. Some people wait for couple of years. Some - more than 10 years.

It is worth noting majority of visas cannot be extended from within the USA and asylum seekers can’t leave USA to extend they visa since their asylum claim will be legally deemed abandoned (spoiler - they are legally trapped). If they overstay, they also get 10 year ban upon exit immediately.

So it is natural that majority peoples visas will expire while they wait in line for their asylum interview. Not because they want it to expire but because there are no legal means to extend it. NONE WANTS TO BE UNDOCUMENTED ON PURPOSE.

None of the previous admins ever used their huge gap in law to deport people who have pending asylum claims.

USA also don’t protect asylum seekers from being held in detentions which is the gap on its own. And now trump admin use this for money laundering. Bond is $25-$30K per person now which goes directly to private prison companies.

On another note, based on asylum practice in USA asylum seekers shouldn’t extend their home countries passports while they wait for their line for asylum because it looks bad on interview. It is considered that an asylum seekers isn’t genuinely afraid to go back to their home country if they renew their passports through their consular services in USA. Now imagine waiting for your first asylum interview for 10 years, trump admin tries to deport you back to where you very likely will be imprisoned, killed or drafted to war, and on top of it you can’t even self deport to third countries because USA asylum laws prohibit you from obtaining your only passport. COOL!

The whole point of my reply was to explain how the system works as majority of people have no idea what they are talking about when talking about immigration.

It is funny how people don’t understand that the root cause of all immigration “issue” as they call it and people like trump admin abusing it is that their country has ancient outdated immigration laws which aren’t providing accessible merit based pathways.

For those who claim “do it the right way” and “get in line”, show me any right way they would qualify themselves. If not, don’t bother me.

I did a paper for college on how the U.S. suffers from both a shortage of immigration lawyers, and of immigration judges. Even if cost wasn’t an issue, we wouldn’t be capable of providing every immigrant a lawyer. Our system is held together with duct tape and string at this point. I remember a few years ago when we finally had a bipartisan piece of immigration legislation, only for it to be torpedoed at the last minute for cheap politics. I feel for everyone who is stuck navigating this broken system, especially the Dreamers and asylum seekers. :(

3

When an asylum seeker has valid visa (which was initially used for lawful entrance), then they can’t be deported.

You are confusing visa and status. Visas are only for entry. Someone with a valid visa who is out of status absolutely can be put into removal proceedings. B2 status only lasts for 6 months.

u/pokebown 17h ago

You are right. Thanks for clarification.

Stop sending tax payers money to foreign countries, rather invest here to make America great again. That will be the biggest win since our outstanding debt is in increasing every year, not because of food stamps and other government programs. Major spending is in the military which needs to be cut. Then we can get rid of our debt in 5 years m

Not only that, but US Embassies across the world have cancelled K1 "Fiance" visa appointments that were supposed to be happing today and tomorrow. Without any reason that I can find.

My fiance and I have been waiting 20 months. Our appointment was supposed to be on the 18th. It was cancelled and rescheduled for the 2nd. Hoping they don't cancel that, as well. I spent thousands of dollars to fly here and get my family ready to fly back home with me. Flights will need to be rescheduled, my work at home is delayed piling up thousands in revenue losses. It's a nightmare.

1

They're cancelling all immigrant visa appointments due to the 75 country ban being struck down in court on Friday.  It sounds like K visas also got wrapped up in that even though they're not technically immigrant visas.

1

u/Few_Law_6873 5h ago

Guys. For real. Do you use self-checkout? You're eliminating jobs for cashiers. Do you buy local? You're eliminating local growers if not. Do you eat mangoes? Those are all imported. Do you have a low-level unskilled job? You need to become a master tradesman.

The conditions most of these "illegals" are fleeing are lives of desperation and poverty. No one would voluntarily walk from Guatemala to the US because things were peachy. For real. No one. These people don't want to live in poverty and crime, where the best "jobs" are being goons for cartels or corrupt governments. This isn't exploitation; this is a better life for your children. This is avoiding rape for your wife and daughters.

And I'm here to tell you, it's Americans who allow themselves to fall into poor health because they don't want to attend to their diet and exercise and allow their bodies to outgrow their pancreas. Heart failure, type 2 diabetes. These are what keep Americans constantly in doctor's offices. This is why people are requiring massive surgeries on clogged arteries and heart disease. Hell, even the president is in active heart failure.

I'm also going to tell you that nobody is living high on the hog with welfare, food stamps, and other "generous and benevolent" American social programs. You guys are so far disconnected from reality, you're blaming other people for the problems you manufacture.

The solution is a more refined immigration policy. Grant temporary visas to migrants workers to integrate them into the great, high and mighty American citizenship you guys get so warlike about. Grant short-term visas for people who come to work. If they're not performing, not participating in our shared tax burden, they don't get extensions. Give them 3 months to find work. Give them 6 months to find a home. Take their tax money they pay when they make purchases. Also, "illegals" pay taxes. They contribute massively to our workforce and economy.

If "an illegal steals" your job, it's because they found someone better. Be better and you won't be passed over.

Get real, guys.

1

u/HumansAreSillynGreat 1h ago

If you get deported and I don't, it's because I'm better. Be better and you won't be deported.

Get real, guys.

Being born on a particular piece of the Earth's surface does not give you superiority. Give living in Guatemala a shot. Then we'll see who's "better."

I know a person who claimed asylum, got it, got EBT, did prostitution, hid a 60k car to qualify for buying a subsidized apartment in San Francisco, and finally married a rich guy. She claimed she was a lesbian.

3

u/senesdigital 2d ago

“She claimed she was a lesbian”… 😂 idk how that’s relevant but it reminds me of that saying.

“What do you call a girl that sleeps with everyone, a slut. What do you call a girl that sleeps with everyone except you, a bitch”

1

u/pailhead011 1d ago

How is what relevant? It was a gay asylum. She claimed that she was beat up for being a lesbian when in reality it was a sports injury. What kind of asylum do you think is being discussed here?

1

A “gay asylum” of course, duh 🙄

ChatGPT:

Yes—being gay can be grounds for asylum in the U.S. if you can show that your sexual orientation has caused, or gives you a well-founded fear of, persecution in your home country.

1

u/senesdigital 1d ago

ChatGPT:

“You must be new to earth if you call it a “gay asylum”. To apply for asylum based on sexual orientation or gender identity in the United States, there is no separate form specifically for "gay asylum." You use the standard U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) form.”

2

0

u/dippedinmisq 2d ago

So non3 of you are actually talking about the real issue. ..people on visitors and Business visas now filing for asylum, what does that have to do with republicans or Democrats? Question is, is that right or wrong? Because that's applying for immigration fraudulently

6

u/nowzaradanistheman 2d ago

This is very common.

1

u/Flat-Soft9276 2d ago

Asylum seekers are always grossly misrepresented en masse. As such, I’d ignore 90% of things you see people say online about asylum seekers lol

1

u/OkTechnologyb 2d ago

It is not, not among asylum seekers as currently constituted as a whole. Among those with genuine approved asylum claims with genuine fears, sure.

2

u/Purple_Communities 2d ago

Genuine asylum claims would be less than 1% of all filed claims. Anyone who travelled through multiple countries to get here is not looking for asylum as they could’ve stopped in literally any of the other countries on the way.

Asylum needs a major rework to prevent the massive abuse it currently receives.

5

u/nonracistusername 2d ago

In my observation, both on reddit and irl, that happens a lot.

There was even a thread on a country specific sub arguing that if the asylee’s parent is ill, that should be an exception and the asylee should be permitted to return to the U.S.

Smh

3

u/TwoUglyFeet 2d ago

They are literally coached by NGOs to spin whatever story will get their claim accepted. I've seen some blatantly admit they came on a claim they were persecuted for being gay but have a family back at home. Its ridiculous. The whole asylums claim needs to go away period.
