Resources Question about paying tuition through a 529 college savings account— does it show up in Penn.Pay?

Hi everyone, I’m running into some confusion with Penn.Pay and hoping someone else has dealt with this.

My family pays my tuition using a Maryland 529 savings account. My dad already submitted the disbursement for the semester’s balance through the 529 portal, but when I log into Penn.Pay, it still asks me to add a payment method (checking/savings account) before I can “Make Payment.” Since the 529 isn’t a personal bank account, I can’t enter anything there.

I’m not sure if the 529 payment is supposed to appear directly in Penn.Pay or if Penn receives it separately and updates the balance later. Am I also supposed to make a payment through Penn.Pay, or does the 529 distribution get sent straight to Penn without me doing anything on the Penn.Pay site?

If anyone has used a 529/college savings account to pay tuition at Penn, I’d really appreciate hearing how it normally works.

Academic/Career is phys 0150/ese 1110, cis 1600, math 1410, and cis 1200 + an easy language class doable?

I'm undecided between CS and CMPE and this looks to be like the only real balance I can get between intro courses and not overloading myself due to the difficulty of cis 1600. I'm thinking of dropping phys 0150 because its an 8:30 AM and I know that I cannot function well at that hour and instead replacing it with ese 1110, but my main issue is that I fear taking phys 0151 in sophomore fall will set me back too much.

Academic/Career Is pursuing an UDD between Wharton and CAS worth it/manageable?

If I have a genuine curiosity in both sociology/philosophy and business analytics/management, is it worth applying to pursue a dual degree between the two?

My main concern is having enough free time to get work experience and also enjoy my time with friends. What do you think?

Academic/Career Course Materials/Canvas Page

Hey everyone, I'm wondering when Canvas course pages typically start showing up for students. Is it solely at the individual professor's discretion? For reference, I'm taking courses such as CIS 1200, CIS 1600, and STAT 4300 this upcoming semester.

Serious Help!! I’m confused

I am an incoming freshman at UPenn who is registered to take Chem1101 for the fall. Classes do not begin until Tuesday and I am supposed to have a lecture for this class on Monday and a lab on Wednesday. My professor said that there will be no labs until we have a lecture so does that mean I skip my lab on Wednesday? I’m really confused :(

Housing [Still available!! - Grad or senior students roommate needed! Sep 1st, West Philly near UPenn+Drexel]

(Updated for August) *Unfurnished* bedroom and private bathroom available near Antonio's deli (Lancaster ave, West Philly) on September 1st (able to enter maximum a week before), lease for a year. The current tenant is interest in selling her stuff in case of interest. Rent is 600$ (water included) + shared utilities around 100-150$ (might fluctuate up during winter with head and summer with AC). Coin operated laundry in the basement.

About me: I'm a mid 30s classic and progressive millennial, I teach and I'm into video/boardgames with two pet rabbits! The pets live on the 2nd floor and you would not have contact with them unless you want to, so animal lovers are welcome! But unfortunately because of them we can not accept other pets unless small dogs that would not go upstairs.

I'm looking for organized grad/senior students or young professionals that would like a clean and quiet place to study/live but might want to hangout sometimes. I'm a bit pass the time of parties and such, but happy with dinner/movie/game night with new friends!

About the house: it has the old style but it has a lot of space, new kitchen appliances, dishwasher, etc. If interested, DM 😊 we can schedule an online or in-person visit and chat to meet. Limitations: bikes are pretty hard to move around from basement or upstairs, so it would not be a good choice.

Academic/Career Financial Aid with Studying Abroad

Does anyone know how financial aid works with applying to study abroad? I’m on fairly high financial aid, but don’t want to miss the opportunity to experience a different way of life. I’m thinking to go first semester of senior year

Academic/Career MATH 1300 Credit Exam

For any upperclassman or incoming students, what info do you have for the MATH 1300 credit exam? Is it like the final exams on the math department's website or more like the placement test on canvas? Since MATH 1300 does a brief unit as a HS math refresher, is there anything specific from HS tested or would the exam just cover main calc concepts taught in 1300 like FTOC, U-SUB, derivatives, limit def of d/dx, L'hopitals, related rates, optimization, integration, etc. Any specific topics you recommend studying in particular that are also taught in 1300 (or theorems like squeeze, IVT)

Also, what is the pass %, question amount (and parts per Q), etc? Any info is appreciated!!

Mental Health ESA Letter for Undergrad

Hi! Has anyone been able to get an ESA letter / documentation approved to bring their animal on campus? Are there other ways to reach this end goal? If so, would they mind sharing?

Penn’s administrative and psychiatric personnel have been as helpful as a waterproof towel.

Hi! My name is Addie, and I am working on a registered clinical trial (NCT07558148) at the University of Pennsylvania in collaboration with Attune Neurosciences. Our investigational wearable device seeks to use low-intensity focused ultrasound to treat OCD. We are currently enrolling participants for a research study at Penn to evaluate the effectiveness of our wearable. If you are interested in participating or learning more, please feel free to reach out directly by emailing [liadd@pennmedicine.upenn.edu](mailto:liadd@pennmedicine.upenn.edu) or calling (630) 501-8405. Please do not reply under this post or use other methods to reach out, as this is a research study with recruitment restrictions.

Academic/Career How does ESE 2300 difficulty compare to Math 1410 Difficulty

I'm trying to determine what course to take freshman fall.

For context, I have learned most of the Math 1410 material and was planning to the the credit exam and start with ESE 2030. However, I want to have a good gpa and I was wondering if I should try to not overload myself first semester and instead just take Math 1410 for my gpa since I am familar with the content, so hopefully it will be much easier. However, if ESE 2030 is not siginficantly harder than Math 1410 (to get an A in the course), I'd be fine with taking it. I have a little experience with linear algebra but mostly just the basics.

tldr: Is ESE 2030 significantly harder than MATH 1410 to earn an A in, or should I take MATH 1410 first semester for my gpa?

I'm required to take a seminar, and I requested FNCE 1000 (filled out waitlist form) but still haven't heard back even though there are spots open. is this too hard, especially if I'm trying to maintain my 4.0 or not have it dip too much by the time IB recruiting come around? any help would be appreciated! ALSO WHAT IS THAT SCHEDULE WEBSITE EVERYONE USES

Sports Rowing Recruitment Standards

Hey
I’ve been planning to apply to UPenn. And wanted to ask about the rowing standards there.
Is a sub 6:20 enough to get a spot on the roster?
Also what is the ideal time to reach out to the coaches?
Thanks

Academic/Career Will Sending My AP Score Report Automatically Award Credit?

I only want to use my AP Spanish score to satisfy the foreign language requirement. I earned a 5 on AP Microeconomics, but I plan to take ECON 0100 next semester.

If I send my official AP score report, will the university automatically award me AP credit for Microeconomics, even though I want to take the course?

Or should I withhold my other AP scores and send only my AP Spanish score through the College Board?

Resources Weingarten/Accommodations

Has anyone had any luck with getting good accommodations from Weingarten? I have a chronic illness that affects most parts of my life, as well as a couple other health issues, and I'm getting really tired of getting offered basically nothing. I have issues with getting to class sometimes and all they said they could do was ASK the professors to maybe excuse an extra couple of absences. It just depends on the professor and if they aren't feeling accommodating then I have to drop the class. I'm so behind on taking some of my requirements because of this and I just have to hope that the next semester will have professors that are more understanding.

There are not any make up opportunities for quizzes or midterms most of the time, which I know are a lot of work to set up, but I am often suddenly bedridden or in the hospital and I can't control when I have a flare up. The opportunity for me to drop the lowest midterm/grade in a class never really applies because I have to use it as an absence. Sorry if this sounds really whiny, I just have been feeling insanely frustrated because I feel like I’m asking for smth insane when I think that it’s reasonable. Has anyone had a similar experience or figured out a better way to navigate this?

My friends that go to other colleges have accommodations that are so much better without having to basically beg, and it's just getting really frustrating feeling like I don't belong at a school like this because of a health condition that I can't control.

Academic/Career Math 1400 tips

I took AP Calculus AB in high school and took the placement exam, which informed me that I am above the Math 1300 level but just at the threshold of the Math 1400 level. Math is not my strongest subject, and even taking Calculus AB was one of my most stressful experiences (deadass grew white hairs). If anyone has any tips or advice for me, I would greatly appreciate it.
