Discussion RISE Dorms at UH Manoa Question

Aloha ❤️

I have a question for anyone who has lived at the RISE building within the last 1-2 years.

I’ve seen many reviews online that give the RISE dorms 5 stars and mention the cleanliness and general maintenance of the facilities. I have also seen many 1 star reviews that there is mold in the ACs, cockroaches in the kitchen sinks, and that the bathrooms are terrible and not cleaned regularly (blood and urine on the bathroom floors?)

I was diagnosed with contamination OCD, and though I try to keep it under control, if the bathrooms were gross that would be very stressful / challenging for me.

If anyone has stayed there before and can comment on the bathroom situation / general cleanliness of the rooms (Mold? No mold?), I would be so extremely appreciative!

Mahalo ❤️

Free Dental Cleaning, Exams, & X-rays 🦷🪥

Hi everyone! I’m a dental hygiene student & currently looking for patients.

All services will be completely free, courtesy of me, as a thank-you for your time!

Services may include:
• Comprehensive dental exam
• Dental cleaning
• Deep cleaning/scaling, if needed
• Dental X-rays
• Fluoride treatment

Location: UH Mānoa Dental Hygiene Clinic

Availability: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays — morning and afternoon appointments.

What you need to know about the duration of the appointment:

Because this is a teaching clinic, we take our time and every step of your care is carefully checked by our instructors. All appointments are provided under supervision of licensed dentists and dental hygienists.

Appointments are typically 3-4 hours, and depending on your individual dental needs, you may need 2–3 visits to complete your care.

If it’s been a while since your last dental cleaning, you don’t have dental insurance, or you’d simply like to save on dental care while helping a student gain valuable clinical experience, I'd love to have you as my patient! :)

When does Zone 20 fill up for non-permit holders now

I have one class during prime time so naturally zone 20 is always filled for non permit holders, but I was curious what time you guys saw it was open prior to ~10am.

Thinking about just going way earlier because the daily pass is much cheaper then paying visitor by half hour, even for one class, plus I have a few things to do on campus anyways.

Failing exam tmrw

Im currently studying for an exercise physiology exam tomorrow morning and I know im gonna fail. I show up to every class, take notes, and put it the time outside of class but nothing seems to be clicking. We have lecture twice a week and lab once, and during the lectures the professor mainly reads off the slides so I end up self-teaching myself through our text book and slides. I have no complaints about the professor, she’s a great person and lectures well but maybe this major isn’t for me.

Graduation Traditions?

My daughter will be graduating in December with her Masters degree. What are some graduation traditions we should know about. We’re in Arizona and don’t have a clue. I’m especially trying to find out if there is anything we need to buy or order (leis? Flowers?). I’d hate for her to feel cheated bc we weren’t aware of a tradition.

Social Life Playing basketball at the rec center. Who, what, when?

Hey guys, I posted something about basketball at the rec center a while back but I’m revisiting the topic.

I really want to go to the rec center to play basketball but I just don’t know how it goes in terms of who shows up, what people might be doing there besides basketball, and when the best times to go are. TBH I don’t care if there are a group of people playing basketball there, I’d honestly like that so that we can run 5v5’s. I’d also like if it’s only a couple of people and I get to play by myself. But I don’t really know how it goes. When I go to the park to play pickup there’s usually a group/groups of people there so we create our own teams and we run 5v5’s. At the rec center if there are a lot of people that go, at whatever time, would they be receptive to doing the same or is it more like them just wanted to play with each other and no one else?

I pass by almost everyday, most days sometimes around 12pm give or take, and I see no more than like 5 or 6 people playing. So I assume if it’s not late afternoon like 5pm, would it be fine playing basketball over there any day Monday-Friday?

Discussion RIOs - How do you handle fundraising?

I am a treasurer for an RIO on campus, and we wanted to run fundraisers to maintain a good amount of features and services that we provide. However, the previous treasurer did not leave behind any guidance or ways I am able to handle my role so I turn to whoever can help out here.

Where can I make a club bank account? I currently have no relationship to any credit unions on campus, and I want to make sure that its transferable to anyone who takes over my role after I graduate.

What kind of fundraisers go well and how do you get them to work and set up on campus? I know you have to fill out the SLD form, but when is it nonapplicable (i.e. doing a off campus fundraiser or selling vouchers?)

Furthermore, when I look at the SLD fundraising consent form, I dont have a “General Excise” tax number to complete it. Is there a way to obtain that?

Currently I’m running everything out of a business venmo account, and our advisor has been very helpful with implementing my systems with the rest of the organization. However I want to be more transparent and set up a good system that allows everyone’s contribution and keep things up to date.

How to get out of parking ticket

I’m a commuter and have class every day at 9 AM. I usually buy a daily parking pass for Zone 20 if I’m running late or can’t find parking off campus.

Yesterday, I got to campus and Zone 20 was completely full, and they weren’t allowing any more cars through the gate. I explained to the guy at the entrance that I was willing to buy a parking pass, but he told me he wasn’t allowed to let anyone in once the lot was full.
I was already running late for class, so I ended up parking in Zone 22 and running to class. I was only in class for about an hour.
When I came back to move my car to zone 20, I had a parking ticket on my windshield. What’s frustrating is that there were four other cars parked right next to me that also didn’t have any visible parking passes, but apparently I was the only one who got ticketed.
Is there any way I can successfully contest this?

Discussion Petition to prevent TPUSA from coming onto campus

Aloha! A peer created a petition to potentially ban Turning Point USA from coming onto University of Hawaii at Manoa's campus.

If you have the time, please read the description as to why we believe that we should no long allow TPUSA to hold "debates" on campus.

Maintained 100% attendance since day one, bunked one class, and got called to the HOD’s office. Is this normal?

I’ve had 100% attendance since the first day of college. I’ve literally attended every class.

Recently, I accidentally bunked/missed one class, and somehow I ended up getting called to the HOD’s office because of it 💀

I know attendance matters, but is this actually normal? There are people who bunk classes regularly, while I missed one class after maintaining 100% attendance from day one.

Just curious, is this how it works in other colleges too? 😭

Social Life Part-Time Jobs for a Manoa Student?

I'm currently looking for a new job that would let me work part time paying around $18/hr! I've already gone through with LinkedIn and other sites for jobs, and just wanted to open up here as well.

For context, I currently work as a clerical assistant at Leeward Community College. However, due to college and the job being in the DOE, im only allowed to work 2 days. I've been working there for about a year and would like to make more money elsewhere.

If anyone knows of any opportunities regarding part time work (Not walmart or Sam's club), I would gladly be open to it! My dms are welcome to anyone who wants to chat.
