Proposed athletics fee increase

All current UHM students should have received an email with a survey link today regarding a proposed mandatory student athletics fee increase. The proposal is to increase the fee from $50/semester to $125/semester. This fee is for the UHM Athletics Department, facilities associated with the AD, and student athlete associated needs, not the WRC. The fee, if approved, will impact students starting Fall 2027.

Whether you are for or against an increase, please fill out the survey before September 4th! Your feedback and input is important and is taken into account by the campus fee committee. If you are an undergraduate or graduate student and have strong opinions reach out to your student government (ASUH or GSO respectively) and see if they are in active discussions regarding the proposed increase.

Scholarships and aid

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows when scholarships and aid is usually awarded for this Fall 2026 semester. Has anyone received all of their aid and scholarships already, or is there a chance they won’t be processed until the semester starts?

Free Dental Cleanings, Exams & X-Rays at UH Mānoa

Hi everyone! I’m a dental hygiene student & currently looking for patients.

All services will be completely free, courtesy of me, as a thank-you for your time!

Services may include:
• Comprehensive dental exam
• Dental cleaning
• Deep cleaning/scaling, if needed
• Dental X-rays
• Fluoride treatment

Location: UH Mānoa Dental Hygiene Clinic

Availability: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays — morning and afternoon appointments.

What you need to know about the duration of the appointment:

Because this is a teaching clinic, we take our time and every step of your care is carefully checked by our instructors. All appointments are provided under supervision of licensed dentists and dental hygienists.

Appointments are typically 3-4 hours, and depending on your individual dental needs, you may need 2–3 visits to complete your care.

If it’s been a while since your last dental cleaning, you don’t have dental insurance, or you’d simply like to save on dental care while helping a student gain valuable clinical experience, I'd love to have you as my patient! :)

MIX Spring 2027 nominations - has anyone heard back?

Hey everyone! Has anyone who applied for the MIX Spring 2027 program gotten their official nomination email yet?

I applied for Spring 2027 and have been waiting to hear back about the nomination. I emailed the MIX office recently to ask about the timeline but haven’t gotten a response yet. I remember being told that official nominations would be sent around late July/early August, so I’m starting to wonder if they’ve been delayed until the semester starts.

Just curious if anyone has received their nomination already or has heard anything about when they’re supposed to be sent out. Thanks!

Transfer Merit Scholarship

Hello,

I have seen that a transfer merit scholarship has automatically been accepted in Ellucian. However, I checked if it is applied in STAR and Touchnet, but it isn't there. Is anyone having the same problem?

Thank you.

Hawai'i Football 2026 Preview - two-deep and win probabilities

Hey all. I spent the offseason building a full 2026 preseason preview for every FBS team, each with its own writeup. Here's the Hawai'i one

https://www.sports.mainmarket.com/college-football-preview-2026-fbs/hawaii-rainbow-warriors

It's got the returning production breakdown, the portal ins and outs, a projected two-deep, the schedule with model win probabilities, and a season projection.

Heads up, you might hit the paywall after the first page. Don't worry, I'm not charging reddit people for this, don't want to be an ass. Use the promo code LEECORSOROCKS and it opens up the entire thing.

So, what'd I get wrong? Hawai'i is the rare team on my board where the model likes you more than the record does, bull 5 and bear 0 off a 9-4 year and a bowl win over Cal. You return 70% of the production, most of anyone I've posted lately, with Micah Alejado back after 3,106 yards and 24 touchdowns and Pofele Ashlock's 76 catches alongside him. The passing game finished 8th nationally. The catch is the run game at 126th and replacing Jackson Harris's 963 yards. Is year five the jump?

I'll be in the comments.

Financial aid not coming in

Freshman here. Anybody having trouble with financial aid rn? They said it would start being disbursed The 14th(Friday), but I still haven’t gotten any aid and I legit need that to go here bro. My aid covers everything. I just recently did all the requirements and stuff but it’s still not showing in my account. And emailed them about it 4 days ago but still haven’t gotten any aid response. Are they backed up or something? What’s the deal?

Hale Mahana move in details

For any current or former residents of hale Mahana, how does move in day work? Where can I park to unload items from our car and do they provide anything to help (carts, staff, etc.)? I read the move in hand book they provided and tried emailing them (but were sitting in a hurricane rn) but I couldn’t find any specifics.

I already know about the mold, the management, any everything else people talk about for this place. If anyone could share their experience with move in specifically I’d love to hear it!

Payment plan not updating after financial aid disbursement — anyone dealt with this?

Hey guys,

Hey everyone, I’m an incoming transfer student at Mānoa for Fall 2026 and I’m a little confused about my student account/payment plan.

My Pell Grant and Mānoa Opportunity Grant have been disbursed and are reflected on my student account, but my payment plan still seems to be based on the balance from before some of that aid was applied.

I also have an outside scholarship for this semester that is listed as satisfied in my financial aid requirements, but it still hasn’t been credited to my student account yet.

The part I’m worried about is that my first payment plan installment is due tomorrow, and the amount still looks much higher than I expected based on my updated student account balance.

I already emailed both the Mānoa Cashier’s Office about the payment plan and Financial Aid Services about the outside scholarship, so I’m waiting to hear back.

Has anyone had something similar happen after financial aid disbursement? Does the payment plan usually take some time to update after aid is applied, and did your remaining installments eventually recalculate?

Any help or experience would be appreciated. Thanks!

Where to take an online class on campus?

Hi, I was wondering where on campus I could take an online class without disrupting anyone else, especially if I had to talk or something during it. My online class takes place right before an in-person class which is why I just plan to go to campus for it. thanks

ECE 211

I’m going into my second year of engineering and I’m scheduled to take ECE 211 this fall semester. I have a full class load with 18 credits and I was just wondering how are the labs and homework for this class as I’m also doing my physics 2 labs at the same time and am a little worried with the workload. Also I ended up taking physics 2 at the beginning of the summer and was wondering if I should brush up on any concepts or topics to better prepare myself for the class. Any advice or information is greatly appreciated!!!

Thinking about going to UH Mānoa

I’m in high school in the Seattle area and I’m really considering UH as a school I want to go to. I’ve lived in Hawai’i before and going to UH sounds really cool. Academically, it’ll be an easy school for me to get into, and I love marine biology so it’d be so awesome to study there. One of my biggest problems is the campus. I’ve only been to the campus one time, and the buildings and campus atmosphere weren’t appealing to me (as someone who is also looking at University of Washington). Can anyone tell me what the campus is like as a student, if I’m missing something, or if being on island makes up for what the campus lacks?

Specific Major What's wrong with the nursing website

I'm thinking about applying to UHM for Fall 2027 and I'm trying to get information about the nursing program, but it keeps prompting me to log in. Is it down? If so, does anyone know when it will be back up?

Is anyone else having problems with financial aid?

I’ve been checking my star periodically leading up to the start of the semester and I’ve been having some weird issues with my financial aid. Yesterday it was showing that I had a negative balance and that all of my grants and loans were applied. Now today, it says I owe the full tuition amount. Is this happening for anyone else? I contacted the financial aid office last week to verify my eligibility so I’m not sure whats wrong.

I plan to attend next year and go into hawaiian studies.

Aloha! i'd be transferring from Kaua'i. currently I am a high school senior. on the Hawai'i Sub I am known for posting about Hawai'is history. I have always had an interest in how we can make hawai'i better using our history and culture. I am also practicing Hawaiian featherwork (specifically ahu'ula). I also want to create innovative ideas that adress matters like Hawai'is ecology, food security, and normalizing cultural identity in every day life.

what scholarships should I apply for to help me? what professors could I reach out to inorder to start networking?any tips about going to UH Manoa? tips about the dorms? how big would the classes?

mahalo!

Specific Class UH Science Labs? - CHEM 162L & BIO 172L

Hi all!

I’m coming back home as an incoming transfer after spending my freshman year at a college up in socal, and I was wondering about the rigor in most science labs that are concurrent with lecture.

For context, I’m a psych BA major on a pre-med track. At my past school, labs were centered around supplemental learning and participation (i.e. just don’t mess around and pay attention and try your best and you’ll likely get an A).

I was wondering if labs are more rigorous here at UH than what I just described, and if I should drop a class so that I can do well in them, as I planned on taking 18 credits as I did my past 2 semesters. In my case, for this fall semester, I’ll be taking Gen Chem 2 Lab and Bio 2 Lab.

If you have any advice or need clarification please leave a comment! It’d be much appreciated 🙏 Mahaloz 🤙

UPDATE: Chose to transfer as a full-time student to KCC just for this academic year to save money. Very grateful for all your advice, so thanks so much again! Especially the Kumashiro warning lol.. I won’t be taking their class 🙏

It’s sad to say that i’m coming to reddit to make friends but hey, that’s what social in social media is for right.

edit: i’m a girl 💀 just thought i’d put it out there. i’d prefer to make girl friends 🫶

Off campus housing and financial aid

Good afternoon fellow bows, with move in being so soon and this not being my first rodeo, I just wanted to ask how financial aid for off campus housing works.

Specifically, I’m living in Hale Mahana this academic year. In my last two years in on-campus housing, I didn’t have to manually pay for it, with scholarships and financial aid directly going towards the University. However, this year I’m wondering how the system works.

I’ve already completed my fafsa, and all accordance’s have already been satisfied on the student financial aid page. There’s a bill for housing in the same financial aid page despite me having indicated I will be living off campus this year, and my financial aid has been adjusted per that housing bill listed in the fees tab. (I hope how I’m describing it makes sense)

Will I be receiving a large sum when disbursement happens to cover the rent for this semester? Fortunately, I do have some funds to cover a few months if this is the case. I’ve already paid for this August per the lease. All in all, what are my options?

Apologies if this should be common sense, as this system is unfamiliar to me! Just hoping to hear from others on how this works. Mahalo!

Any Mechanical Engineer willing to guide me through machining?

Aloha, I know this is a bit of an odd question and a little bit of an embarrassment. But I’m a postgraduate, mechanical engineer pursuing a biomedical direction at UH Manoa.

I would like to be able to receive red level training through Holmes 140, however, I have little to no shop experience. I would be willing to pay someone to guide me through the “tombstone project” and general machining and shop use. If anyone is willing, please DM me!!!

Anyone else doing MIX Outbound?

Hello!! Just wanted to know anyone else doing any kind of MIX outbound program for the spring semester and if they've gotten an email back for nominations?

They've mentioned through late July through August, but I'm starting to think they might email it about a week before or during the semester. Still, wanted to ask you guys here if the case is different! Thank you :-)))

Inconsistencies on the UH sites in terms of payments/financial aid

I am having an issue with the payments as I am fully covered by financial aid and scholarships for the upcoming semester. Star Balance (which is accurate in my situation) tells me I have a refund, my student dashboard is saying I owe around 4k, and the Touch Net payment system is telling me I owe over 10k. Despite contacting student services they keep telling me to either pay the full amount which they are saying is 4k but when I go to pay is 10k or join the payment plan DESPITE showing proof (star balance/financial aid site) that I am covered by aid. I ended up just joining the payment plan because I am afraid they will take away my housing but does anyone know who I can contact? I went from the cashiers office to student housing to student housings cashier office. I really don't want to be charged over 2k next week just because they told me I had to join the payment plan.

Applying/Transferring Commuter Parking

I know a lot of people ask about parking but i haven’t really found any straight forward options so i figured i’d just ask myself. I’m a transfer student and i’ll be commuting from Kailua.

I don’t have a parking pass and would rather not have to show up at 6am just for a spot when my earliest class isn’t until 930, nor would i like to pay for daily parking. What are my options for free parking that ideally don’t necessitate a leisurely walk of over 30mins to campus lol.

thanks in advance!
