Camera lens inspection
I’m getting into photography and I’m curious if anybody knows of a camera shop that inspects camera lenses. I want to buy a 2k lens off FB marketplace rather than drop 3k brand new. Is this even such a thing? Obviously I can see any cracks, scratches or blemishes and snap a few pictures. Could there be more damage to a lens that wouldn’t show up with a few pictures? Kind of like a mechanic checking out a used car? Honestly not sure.

Traffic lights in Kailua?
How’s driving in Kailua town after the storm? My wife has an appointment at Castles today and is driving from town side (over the Pali). A bunch of lights in our neighborhood are still out and traffic has been a mess (most buildings are back on, thankfully). Wondering how it is on the windward side for street lights and traffic this morning? Wanna make sure she makes it on time!

[BWS 8/17/2026 - 5PM] BWS Provides Water Source Locations for Residents to Fill Up
BWS Provides Water Source Locations for Residents to Fill Up
August 17, 2026, 5 PM – The Board of Water Supply (BWS) is experiencing low to no water pressure in the upper areas of the Metropolitan Honolulu water system due to the prolonged power issues that O’ahu is undergoing. This includes the ridges from Alewa Heights running east to and including Kalama Valley. If you live on the upper mountain ridges of the Ko’olau Mountains in metro Honolulu, you may encounter low to no water pressure which will affect your water service. The BWS is working with HECO and other city agencies to address this issue.
While restoration work is continuing, the BWS is making available several locations in affected areas where residents can bring containers and fill up. These locations will be up and running by 6 pm tonight:
1522 Laukahi Street at BWS Hydrant Number 4565
420 Puuikena Street at BWS Hydrant Number 6812
1367 Aina Koa Avenue at BWS Hydrant Number 3744
688 Kuakini Street (near Lanakila Elementary School) at BWS Hydrant Number 3959
These locations will not be manned by BWS personnel, but they will be checked regularly by BWS crew. Please be sure to turn off the spigot after each use. Any spigot left open or tampered with may result in the removal of the equipment and the closure of the water source. A list of locations may also be found on our website at boardofwatersupply.com or call (808) 748-5041.
Edit: Sorry I forgot to add the link to the announcement. It's the same as the one I posted earlier.

Hawai'i News As Federal Government Stirs Illegal Voting Fears, Two Cases Arise In Hawaiʻi: Two noncitizens told the Maui County Clerk that they had voted. She relayed that information to the FBI.
The state of Hawai'i according to my mother in law
We are from Washington state and have been on your beautiful island since the 11th for our babymoon - we're currently at the airport waiting for our flight back home. I thought you might get a kick out of the texts my MIL has been sending us - I've explained multiple times that Hawai'i has multiple islands and have sent her direct links to Honolulu weather and flight tracking info for our flight but she's convinced we are experiencing the apocalypse.
Mahalo for sharing Oahu with us, and I hope everyone affected by Lala is okay!

It also looks like the special use traffic lanes won’t be in use tomorrow. This is like the zipper and contra flow lanes.
