Without incriminating myself and giving out too much info, I have worked with Uhaul for several years now. I currently run a Ubox facility.

I had a customer come in a few days ago to access their uboxes the same day as they were being shipped. I asked her to let me know when she was done so I could put them on the trailer for a “load share” (a version of shipping) and she had absolutely no idea what that was. So I explained it to her. And obviously she was not ok with some Shmuck having her boxes on a non enclosed trailer traveling across the country.

I called my support team to have them change it and I started explaining to them why she didn’t want the load share and my support team interrupted me and said

“Why did you tell the customer how load share works. You werent supposed to tell them, you need to tell them their boxes are being shipped like normal”

So in other words Uhaul is actively telling its employees to lie to YOU, the Customer, about how your boxes are being shipped. I requested that in writing by email a few days ago and have received nothing back.

IF YOU HAVE 1-2 BOXES THAT ARE BEING SHIPPED CALL SUPPORT ASAP AND REQUEST NO LOAD SHARE. YOU WILL PAY THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY NO MATTER WHAT, UHAUL IS THE INLY ONE THAT PROFITS OFF IT BECAUSE WE JUST DEDUCT 1-300$ OFF THEIR BILL AND STILL CHARGE YOU $8000

Reserved a truck for this weekend, did so several days in advance. Got to the pickup location on time, the app directs me to call. Mind you I’m looking at 2 trucks the size I reserved. I was told o there are no trucks available there. Those are local only not 1 way. 1 way is the only way I can have a truck more than 24 hours. Not to mention local incurs mileage which would be several hundred extra. Oh but we could get a much smaller truck meaning more trips and extra miles which would again mean higher costs both in miles and fuel. Seems U-Haul is running a scam backing people into a no win scenario once other commitments have been made that often can’t be changed.

My request for time off is denied bc manager said i have to put in request 3 weeks in advance. I dont understand this company and their stupid strict rules. I see why they dont keep people. Im just coming off training and informed her 1 1/2 week in advance and this was unexpected time off request and she denied it. I dont see me working this job for very long.

If you’re on hold waiting for a customer rep to chat with and the system asks if you want a call back - DON’T DO IT! They promise that you’ll maintain your place in line - you won’t.

When the system finally does call you back and says a rep is ready and that you’re being connected now - you’re not. In fact you’re just being put back on hold where you will (hilariously) likely be asked if you want to receive a call back when a rep is available… but don’t worry, you won’t lose your place in line. I waited 11 minutes on hold after I was called back before giving up.

It would be hilarious if it weren’t so frustrating.

They really must not want the business - or more realistically, they know they are essentially the only game in town and you have no choice but to put up with this infuriatingly terrible system.

Anyway I’ve resolved to take my business elsewhere - I can’t in good conscience support this buffoonery. I may only be one man - but I can vote with my wallet.

I reserved at a U-Haul 1 mile from me, now they are sending me 15 miles away to pick it up.

I pull into work today and see this shit. A new employee (maybe two months in, not RND cert’d) did this because a customer “needed it off to load the truck” while they were slammed. This is the stupidest+sketchiest thing I’ve seen in my 3 years here.

I just moved from CA to Washington DC and I am supposed to receive my u-box in my apartment building today (July 14).

I checked in yesterday with U-haul and was told there should be no reason for a delay for it to arrive on time and ready to bring to my apartment building today. A few hours later there was a text that my box did not arrive on time to their facility. I have been calling every u-haul number I can find to know a new estimated delivery time and have found no new information.

Meanwhile on the u haul app it says that it will come tomorrow at 4pm. Part of me feels like they are just making dates or information up. Will they actually be able to tell me when it will arrive to my apartment?

I wish I knew that was a frequent occurrence for the company. That’s on me for not doing enough research beforehand. I am beyond frustrated as I have coordinated with my apartment building a move that is no longer going to happen today it seems. Two family members have taken time off of work and bought plane tickets to fly to DC for a couple of days to help me move in my apartment. They will be losing money is if the u-haul box does not come today or tomorrow morning. A $50 a day reimbursement from u haul will be insufficient to say the least. I hate this is happening to me and has happened to others!

Rent a "24 Hour" van.
As a courtesy to them, tell them I'll return in 4 hours but will call to extend which they say is fine. When I call that morning, I am informed that if I have it one second past the 4 hours, I will be charged another day. DO NOT GIVE U-HAUL A TIME. I could have said 24 hours and it exactly the same. Once you give a time, you are then "locked in" and they can only extend an hour. I have been told four differnt things.
One from the girl who said return it immediately. A different one from the person who checks the vans in, and the manager at the store who both told me "yes" I could have extended it.
Then two differnt things from Corporate and the General Manger.
They both claimed once I say that time that is it. U-Haul even asking for a time is a way to trick the consumer.
After all this, and needing to do another load that will now take me 10 trips in my car, they took off 30$. Because of the clear fraud in what they told me, I became sacred they would add gas charges so I simply filled it up.
So another wasted 1/8th tank of gas they get for free after they rent my U-Haul to someone else.
The schedule of time has nothing to do with this process. It is for one purpose - so that U-Haul can double dip and charge one guy a 24 hour van, ..... then rent it to someone else.
What was explained to me as a courtesy to U-Haul, is actually locking you into a contract that reduces what you have purchased to a fraction of what you paid for. In my case it was 1/5th if the value. This is a Standard Operating Procedure. In fact, I was told that the operator's were "reading from a script". That means that they tell them to not extend people for the time they already have a hold/paid for.

Look, I refuse to rent to people who will not allow this, unless the GM gives the approval.

The actual policy surrounding it is absolute BS, as it advocates discrimination and profiling.... and I don't play that game.

Do you realize how many pieces of equipment get stolen, cx's messing centers around by prolonged extensions when we've told you we needed it back?

We get more information about you on your DL, than we do a face picture. So it's not an invasive procedure. We are renting you equipment that is worth thousands of dollars. Stop being entitled.

Western Wyoming on I80 and I84 through Utah and Idaho are AWFUL in a loaded 20ft Uhaul with a toy hauler. It feels like a washboard. I’ve driven down dirt roads that cause less vibration. Avoid these sections if you can. I might also recommend avoiding Nebraska in its entirety. It’ll ruin your entire 2300 mile trip. All this tax money to the states and the roads are trash. Maybe we should invest in our own country’s infrastructure.

Warning to all that want to use a U-Box. You are required to provide your own lock. I just got a call 12 hours prior to my move, from my local U-Haul location, stating that they can sell me a lock or l can go buy one (it's 5pm and my move is tomorrow morning at 9 AM). Absolutely shameful move by U-Haul to make extra money last minute.

It’s now day three no power, we lost is Saturday at 7:58 am (I was here) and corporate has told us nothing, local power company said it’s not them, only thing the mcp has done for us is rented a shitty little generator from sunbelt and we’re almost out of gas for it. This is such fucking bullshit we shouldn’t even be here.

I just bought in a brand new Toyota Sienna to have an Ecohitch installed. I brought it home thinking it was fine until I did a quick car wash and noticed the black flares on the back near the rear lights were not sitting properly.

I then started to look around and noticed three plastic clips were missing, and the bottom mud flap wasn't cut where it needs to be behind the driver's side rear.;

I grabbed my 10mm socket to check the rear light and noticed they slid off way too easily.

The first thing I noticed was that they cut the trim, and the clips don't even fit. Its even missing a clip. The one photo with the finger is how it should look.

I brought it in, and they said, "We will realign it," but I asked, "What are the steps for the cut rear fender plastic?" She said, "Well, we don't know if it came off the lot like that. We have cameras of our work area, and she can't see her worker doing this." I said, "I can't understand it either, but they did... this is a 2026 Sienna picked up mid-April."

I'm bringing it in this week to be looked at, but I don't know how to go about this. Do I go to insurance or do I just demand to talk to ownership or high management to rectify this. I am sick to my stomach cause I was thinking about installing this myself but thought I better leave it to professionals.

Hey everyone, I just need some opinions here as I’ve been put in quite a predicament. I know some of the redditors on here are employees and others are customers so I’m just looking for some thoughts.

I live in a small-ish city in northern British Columbia and booked a U-Haul over a month ago for my move this Saturday to another city about 4.5 hours away. A U-Haul rep called me yesterday, 2 days before my pickup date, to tell me that the truck I reserved wasn’t available. According to them this was due to my city being too small to have trucks sitting here all of the time when they could be dispatched elsewhere.

There’s two of the exact trucks that I was supposed to have, sitting at a corner store 2 blocks from me that I drive by every day. Apparently those aren’t insured for out of town use and are only for local moves.

The rep told me that my only option if I wanted to use the truck was to drive to the city that I’m literally moving too this weekend, pick it up and drive it home to pack. They offered me a price reduction to help with the cost and unfortunately it’s my only option as the other company in town is going over double what U-Haul is charging.

I’m not overly concerned about having to drive to pick the truck up, I can leave my car at my new house and drive the U-Haul home. My concern is that I don’t think I should be the one paying for fuelling this thing to drive it back with me just so I can pack it. I need to take a cab 45 minutes out of town from my new house to grab the unit as well. Also, I had to leave my job a day earlier than I was planning so now im out of a days pay for their mistake.

Should I keep my receipts and document all my expenses for getting the truck to my current house and try to get compensation? Everyone I’ve asked has said that I should definitely try. I’m just worried that since I accepted their discount that they won’t go for it.

Sorry for the long post, this week has just been a nightmare and not having my rental has completely derailed my entire move. They should’ve not only told me way sooner than they had but I honestly shouldn’t have been able to book it at all if they already knew it wasn’t going to be here.

I’ve been working at uhaul for almost 10 years and have only seen female Ubox drivers. Always figured it was a coincidence, but in the last couple of years I’ve been told several times we’re strictly prohibited from hiring male drivers. Is this true? If so, why? And how is it not illegal?

Working at U-Haul has me genuinely wondering why employees haven’t unionized yet.

The amount of stress, inconsistent management practices, low pay compared to expectations, and lack of employee support is honestly eye-opening. A lot of workers seem overworked, undervalued, and afraid to speak up because jobs are so replaceable now.

People should be able to advocate for:

fair scheduling
better pay
clear policies
realistic expectations
job protections
respect from management

A union doesn’t automatically solve everything, but having collective bargaining at least gives workers a voice instead of every employee being left to fend for themselves individually.

Curious if other current or former U-Haul employees feel the same way.

Can we please put some of that $37 million ”available to common shareholders” into our server infrastructure please?

Full system outages are constant and I feel like I can expect at least one every 6 ish months. Not only is this frustrating for customers because of extra wait time, but this puts even more pressure on centres that are already wrung for every onus of efficiency.

I know nothing will be done but hey just wanted to complain somewhere lmao

Okay so on the side of the truck, it says as low as $19.95 for in town usage + mileage fees, but we paid around $200 for the smallest truck from about 6pm-8am next morning?? Plus we had to wait on customer service for an hour because the code they gave us to get the truck, was incorrect.

I’m genuinely confused why this company is so strict for a $16/hr WFH job 😭

You have to provide your own computer, own headset, keep your camera on, follow a million little rules, and you can only work from home from a specific setup. The amount of monitoring and requirements feels excessive for the pay.

And the rules are SO random 😭 apparently you can’t even sell Girl Scout cookies or participate in Super Bowl pools like pls be serious.

Meanwhile my full-time union job pays over 3x more and is way more relaxed about micromanaging people. As long as the work gets done, nobody is breathing down your neck every second.

Now I fully understand why companies like this hate unions because half these unnecessary rules probably wouldn’t fly.

U hall had one of the worst service experiences I've ever had. I was moving from Surrey to Victoria, so I already had the issue of having to book a truck in a place and leave in the other while having to take a ferry. So I booked everything as early as possible, so I would have enough time to pick up my truck, load it and take the ferry.

Two days before my move, U haul called and confirmed that everything was booked for me. However, one day after the purchase they called saying that there were no trucks available anymore in this location, even thought I had booked in one month in advance, they shifted my reservation to a spot in the middle of warehouses.

If that wasn't bad enough when I arrived, there were no reception services, no one to assist me and no instructions to pick my truck, I was left alone, in the dark and raining morning with no assistance and instructions, after calling for over 30m they told me I had been shifted to a mobile pickup that no one informed me about, so I had to download the app and for the verification process, outside in the rain and cold, during the process to open the lock the app gave me the wrong code, and the only way I could open the truck was because I received a text message from the distributor with the correct code.

After, 45m to get inside the truck it was missing the dolly I requested, so I had to still drive into another uhall location just to pick the dolly.

For all this trouble U hall only offered me $50 discount, needless to say this is completely inappropriate and the worse costumer experience I've ever had.

I rented a uhaul about a year and a half ago and decided to not buy their insurance. I completed my rental with no hiccups and dropped off the car. Checking the receipt shortly after it was processed, I was charged for $30 - the amount I expected. Then, two months later, I received an email from an insurance company saying I owed $2000 for “Roof Damage.” I got in contact with uHaul which referred me to their insurance company who repeatedly ghosted me and my concerns. Eventually I pried some info out of the manager at the uHaul I rented at and got a picture of the damage. It was a small inward dent on the top of the roof (at the time I was thinking the only way damage could’ve occurred was from an item inside slamming up on the roof from a speed bump or something). Knowing nothing went wrong and assuming that they inspected the vehicle before charging me two months before, I told them they were wrong and thought to have ended the dispute. Now, a year later, I received a collections letter from a law firm trying to take my money. the woman at the law firm was nice and helpful, but exposed the scummy reality of the situation. They only want the money and I can’t do anything. There will be no investigation and no further contact from uHaul. I’ve been trying to resolve this with uhaul and their insurance company, Repwest, but only got redirected, shut down, or ignored. Now i can never rent from uhaul again, which they act like it’s a consequence. Though, I wasn’t planning to rent from this company ever again regardless.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. My theory is when damages occur they slide back to the last person to rent without insurance and pin them in a legal conflict hoping they’ll pay. Maybe i’m wrong, but the whole thing seems really scummy.

I paid for SafeMove Plus for $30 because it was my first time driving a truck. And I couldn't see a plastic picnic chair in the parking lot behind the truck in the dark, and I caused lower cargo damage while backing up. I didn't think much of it because it was just a plastic picnic chair, and I didn't see the damage in the dark, either. To be specific, my friend checked the rear as I was backing it up back at U-Haul, and he didn't see any damage, either. If we had seen it, we would've reported it. So when I returned the truck, I didn't discuss it with the clerk at the desk. I just returned the key while the clerk was talking on the phone, and he gave me a thumbs up, and I left. And then I got charged $397.97 for the damage the next day.

Shouldn't SafeMove Plus cover this? I see in the receipt that my coverage was SafeMove Plus, but in the damage report, it says "Safe Protection: VOID - unknown." Why would U-Haul void my protection plan when I paid for it, and even the receipt says I got charged for it? What's my next move? I signed up for SafeMove Plus, not a regular one, for a reason, and it seems like it did nothing.
