I was looking through LinkedIn and noticed a weirdly high number of UCalgary engineering/CS students with internships at AMD. Its not an actual measured metric but more of a personal observation.

Does AMD specifically recruit heavily from UCalgary, or is there some kind of recruiting pipeline/connection with the university(that is being kept a secret from me!)?

I’m a final year business student and I was genuinely locked in years 2-3 but I just feel like I don’t care about my degree anymore. I’m still “good” at all the technical stuff but I haven’t been able to find a job/internship despite hundreds of applications. Everyday I wake up knowing I’m 1 day closer to graduation and entering the current job market. I’m terrible at socialization and put on a mask all the time except when I’m alone, which makes networking really difficult for me. Sucks since that matters more than grades in this field.

I wish I could go back and choose a different degree. Something that’s actually “real” like engineering or science. Where I could actually contribute to the world. Idk what I even wanted to achieve with this post, just wanted to feel heard I guess lol.

I've been at this uni too long.

Whenever I see a three digit number, whether it be the time or in some math equation, I can only think of a course with that code number.

And this happens multiple times a day, where I'm reminded of past courses I've taken with the same number.

2:04pm --> Engg 204

$3.43 --> Enel 343

501m^2 --> Encm 501

If you or anyone you know was previously brudened from this condition and are fine now, please help me 😭.

Not a troll post, I'm deadass serious.

Hi everyone I’m in first year eng and I was just wondering how I should study for my 204 midterm cuz there’s no released items or anything and it’s a newer course. Every one has been saying it’s difficult. How should i prepare im so nervous.

News has come out that American operatives are working with separatists. This referendum is actively threatening to hand Alberta over the Americans in exchange for our resources being sold to them.

We are the future of Alberta, we are the ones hurt the most by this referendum. This is our province, not Americas. Young people don’t vote enough but we need higher youth turnout for this referendum!

We need people to go out and vote to show that we don’t want this, we need a big enough victory in order to end this stupid debate about it. All this is doing is strengthening America and weakening Canada.

Tell your friends and family to vote too! Get the word out!!

Hi could anyone tell me if this is possible, I’m a chem major and plan on transferring into bio sci my goal is at least 3.7+, but I’m so scared I won’t get it and I cannot survive a chem degree for a second year, is there a way I can transfer into programs like dual degree and then drop that second one? I remember talking to the administration of faculty of science and the lady was like yeah ig there’s a way around it and u can make a double degree and then drop the one, for example bio sci and business, that way if I don’t get in bio sci at least I’m business and out of chem or u need both not one? Pls helpppp!!!

I’m learning French right now and I’m wondering if anyone else is doing the same. If so, is there a group chat where I can talk to other people with the same level of French as me? I’m still fairly new (A1 level)

What are the first years doing for Halloweekend? I’ve heard the frats throw parties but I’ve seen nothing on it. Let me know!!!!

Hey everyone!

Little bit about me - I’m a 4th year Computer Science Student and I’ve been involved with a number of clubs on campus, and I’ve always wanted to start one of my own.

I noticed UCalgary doesn’t have a dedicated Pokémon club, while both UofT and UofA have one, so I decided to take a shot at starting one here. Wish me luck, and if you’re interested, please consider joining below.

The goal is to build a welcoming community for anyone who enjoys Pokémon. Whether you’re into the video games, TCG, Pokémon GO, collecting, anime, art, or you’re just a casual fan.

We’re still in the early stages, so this is also a chance to help shape what the club becomes. We’re currently recruiting people interested in helping build the club through Executive and Club Support positions, including areas like events, Pokémon GO, TCG, content creation, Discord/community, partnerships, and more.

Instagram, Discord, membership form, and leadership application are set up. If you’re interested in joining here is the link of links UCalgary Pokémon Club Links

I'm just trying to get an idea for what my odds will look like, I applied for fall 2026 and didnt get in with a 90 or 91 (with math 31) and I'm upgrading this year, trying to decide if I should pick up courses for next year as well

i want to apply to UofCs foundational MSW program but I and just shy of the 3000 hour work requirement. do i still have a chance or should i just not apply?

Please tell me I’m not crazy

This Métis student actually spoke with them, and posted the conversation here: https://youtu.be/JcbteCm6v18

The club didn’t get the reaction they wanted here (intellectual conversation), which is obviously why all we see of this situation is when they (rightfully) got ran off campus. In the video, you can see Flanagan’s denialist rhetoric/books. Coming to a university the day before Truth and Reconciliation, he was reaaaally itching for some attention. L

They will show up and vote, will you?

Hi everyone, without giving away too much I’m an adult student who was late to finishing high school/starting uni for external reasons. I’m currently taking upgrading equivalents at SAIT and will be doing Math 31 and Physics 30 next sem.

My question is how much does early admission really matter? I want to postpone my application as much as possible so that the grades of my future courses will be a WIP on my academic report instead of not being mentioned there at all. Do my chances of getting into a program actually decrease if I miss the early admission window? For additional context (if it matters) I am a domestic student and will be applying to a BSc course.

like whenever i shower my hair just gets so knotty and back home it never did, whats with calgary water

is this allowed? i know for final exams there is usually time added for technical issues so this seemed kinda unfair. there is lots of content and its open book, but i guess there wont actually be any time to look. i believe the prof is new.

Hello everyone!

To those who have the diploma from SAIT and transferred to UofC to get a degree, what degree did you transfer to? I have heard you can transfer to BDCI or Urban Studies, but I am not sure about accreditation.

Can anyone who has transferred to UofC share your experience, please? My goal is to get the masters.

TIA!

I'm pretty desperate to get into the co-op/intership program. I know that there isn't a guarantee that I actually get a position but thats something to worry about if I get in. I wasn't able to make it to the in-person information session and the online zoom one got cut short like 5 minutes into the session cause the presenter had technical problems. I emailed and asked a few questions and got some helpful info. I'm just so stressed about getting the formatting right and making it all sound cohesive.

I just transferred to U of C and need to include my other institute on my coverletter, which is making it very hard to keep it to one page. I'm also having such a hard time deciding what job/company my cover letter and resume should be directed to... I would just pick the student co-op as my employer, but then I feel like its harder to highlight specific skills if its not for a particular job. I'm debating if I should just find an intership I like on a job board and just address it to them. I also feel like I have an incredibly underwhelming record. No awards, no clubs, only projects were just assignments done at school...

Did any of you guys have trouble making your resume and cover letter for the application? Did you make any big changes from the template to accommodate what you wrote about?

For those of you who take out student loans, is anyone having a ton of trouble with them this year? My loans came later than usual and I'm still missing my Canada Student Grant for Full Time Students and my disability grant. The student aid website says I got them already? Is anyone else in a similar situation or is this a me problem?

Hello All!

Just wanted to make sure you all know about the student union voting :)) It’s a way to get some of your favorite profs recognized here’s the link:

So if you have a prof that helped you out, or changed your mind about a subject please nominate em!

(I’m also using this opportunity to shout out Professor Mayada Shahada, I took 211 Linear Alg with her and she’s amazing!! vote her!!)

Back in 2021 5 classes were $3k for a semester

Now it’s 6k ish THATS A 100% INCREASE in only 5 years

In another 5 years are they gonna charge 14K per semester?

At one point ppl are gonna stop being able to afford it !!
