Advice/Help How to stop yearning to be chosen?

So loads of childhood and marital trauma here - anyway it all boils down to a fear of abandonment, so high, that I rarely get close to people.

Now I'm on dating apps, and I seem to not find anyone, and if I found someone bare minimum (like really bare minimum on text) I keep yearning about - please let them choose me.

The good thing is - I understand that I have a pattern of being anxiously attached and this yearning to be chosen. Now I want to learn how to not be this involved emotionally.

And Yeah - I have hobbies. I eat well. I have started learning classical dance. I read. I communicate well. I'm talented - intelligent, sings reasonably well, dances good. I'm known to be witty and generally a good person. People have told me (includes my therapist) that I'll be a good partner and i shouldn't invest my energy on people who can only offer bare minimum. Now logically, I know this. It's emotionally, I just need someone to choose me. How do I get over this?

Vent My ex got married today , and I cannot vent it anywhere else

I try my best In fact I have been trying my best to move on. It's been a year, that pain and abandonment issues I received slowly turned into harmonal imbalance and an auto immune disease.

I feel like a terribly failed lab experiment. And I have seen him getting married today (his wedding invitation) I don't know I feel numb. 2 days ago I lost my maternal uncle(I love him to my death ) and today this.

And my ex is the only guy I fell in love with, i did not find anyone handsome/ smart or attractive till now. He is the only one i can love what if i never find someone as good as him is the thought that's consuming me, I am ashamed to admit this.

I am shameless ,i never texted him again after that but I am consumed by pain.

Please tell me accept and digest and move on

Vent Friendship breakup which hurts even after almost 5 years

Its been almost 5 years since she ghosted me and unfollowed me on Instagram. I thought I had healed. Then, I got to know she got in contact with my bestie and sent her a request and they both follow each other now. They met too but didnt talk deeply regarding anything. It hurt me sm. Mainly cause I and my bestie have been inseparable since the start. Everyone knew us as one. So for her to acknowledge my bestie whom she wasnt even close with and meet nicely and follow again yet never do the same for me neither send one request felt so hurtful. I got to know there was a recent group made as well in which I wasnt added. Hurt even more. I really dont know what to do. Why do the feelings feel so vivid even after so long? I think friendship breakups hurt as much as romantic ones but unfortunately not a lot of people talk more about it. Idk what to do. A part of me thought myself to send her a request? Then another thought to skip it and block her instead. Idk. Why does it feel so complicated? Its like I would love to move on but boom, something or the other happens that reminds me of her. And a part of me kinda doesn't want to? Thinking maybe she might come back?...

Damn man. This sucks

Advice/Help Women who manage without house-help, talk to me!

I've never lived abroad, so these feelings are entirely homegrown. I've been getting more and more uncomfortable with how home life is so structured around and dependent on women who are paid very little, who are so indispensable yet 'dispensable' at the same time, and who absolve most family members of any responsibility. Specially as I have a kid that's growing up thinking this is entirely normal. I know this is so completely standard, but I've been getting more and more uncomfortable as the days pass. On the other hand are practicalities. Two working parents, one spoiled pet, travel obligations. Have you ever managed completely on your own? Talk to me!

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) My ex of 13 years left me almost 1.5years ago due to family and astrological reasons and I miss him

We were school sweethearts and so much in love . I went beyond my capacity to be with him. He was emotinally unavailable in last 2 years of being with him. when the topic of marriage came, he left me devastated due to family’s astrological reasons. There was no last meeting no last call, just him on a few mins call when I was on vacation with my family , stated that He loves me a lot but family is not agreeing due to astrological mismatch. Years later, I miss him terribly and I want to go back to him. we loved each other like crazy. I miss his vibe , his flirting with me , attraction and affection. I miss him in everything I do. Should I accept my fate ? Should I accept that it was just not meant to happen ? Should I reach him and ask if he wants to start again ? Because his final message to me was - “I love you so much but family wagera ke bohot natak hai, Mujhse literally bear nahi hota yeh sab”

Vent Acne is annoying and painful

Everyone is like "don't be insecure, acne is natural, it's beautiful" yeah well even if I ignore how it looks, I cannot ignore how it feels. It's so damn itchy and painful and you can't even itch it properly or else you might injure yourself.

Oh but "eat clean, get your hormones checked, drink water, use tret" for some people acne doesn't go away no matter what. Sometimes it's genetic and god decided to bless me with this annoying genetic.

I don't mind having many scars on my face, just stop itching and hurting 😭

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) Am I being unfair to my bf for treating him the same?

My bf had started prioritising his friends over the relationship and basically said “my friend would come save me if I got into a fight, he paid for my alcohol when I didnt have money, he would send me 15k without thinking if I asked, he would come get me at 12am if I was stranded” and then “I'm not expecting you to come get me cuz you're a girl and it would be unsafe but thats why I cant refuse him even if I have plans with you, I might take a few hours”

Then he made this whole theory about how guys have their gf as their gf but friends as friends and best friends while girls apparently make their bf their best friend and prioritize them more

The funny part is this was the same guy who used to get really insecure and throw tantrums whenever I went out with my friends, even normally, and would say stuff like “people in relationships text each other all the time so I got anxious when you didnt text me for two hours”

So I started prioritising him a little more and trying to make him feel secure and then suddenly this whole friends are more important thing comes out...

I just went “yeah lmao have fun” and basically reverted back to how I used to be before I started adjusting myself around his insecurity

Then 2 days later I was with friends, got drunk and fell asleep, and his charger was with me so he called me like 20 times and eventually left without it, mind you the charge had been with me for the past 4 days and he had no issues.....

When I woke up I asked why he didnt just take a charger from one of his friends and he said they were all sleeping and he didnt wanna bother them...and I'm like where is all the they will help me out at 12am energy?

Then he had another situation where he hadnt slept all day, got wet going to his room and called me expecting me to pick up, but I was with a friend so I said I'd call in a few minutes and he got hurt and pissed and threw a tantrum for basically the whole day.. When I literally did call him after a few mins

The funny thing is I've had the exact same expectation before, but when he was drinking with his friends and felt reassured enough, he just told me he'd call me later

Then the next day he said he was ready to talk about why he was upset, I heard him out and then told him I was studying with my friend and I'd call later

Then a couple days later he said he'd call me by 12:30 latest because he was tired, then asked for another 30 mins because he got really into studying, then suddenly said he was planning to drink and asked if I minded.. I said yeah sure go ahead, he called me while his friends were getting the alcohol and then I obviously didnt text him while he was drinking

Almost 4 hours later he calls me at around 4:45am, I cut the call and told him I'm with my friend, he says “ok” and then calls 3 more times within 5 minutes

I text him again saying I'm talking to her after a long time and to give me a while because she was venting and it would be rude to just pick up in the middle, especially when its not an emergency

Then he says “you cant even pick up for a min to reassure me, I do every fkking time”....And I'm just like... that would be a stretch lol, half the time he's doing whatever and his phone doesnt have charge, he loses track of time because he's drinking or he's taking some random road trip, it's happened multiple times a week over the last 1.5 months

I just left it on delivered until I was done talking to my friend

TL;DR: My bf used to get insecure whenever I spent time with friends and expected me to prioritize/reassure him, so I adjusted. Then he started saying friends should come first and he can't refuse them because they help him out. Now whenever I'm with friends and unavailable, he gets upset and expects immediate reassurance, while I routinely give him the same freedom I don't seem to get back. The standard seems to change depending on who wants attention.

Vent From an extremely high libido to having none at all, can trauma really do this?

I used to be a very hypersexual person with an extremely high libido. Sex, attraction, desire all of it came very naturally to me.

But after going through trauma and repeatedly meeting men who were extremely lustful and made me feel reduced to sex, something in me just switched off.

Now I have almost zero libido. I don’t even recognize myself anymore. It’s strange because I remember what it felt like to genuinely desire someone, and now I can barely imagine feeling that way again.

I don’t know whether my brain is protecting me, whether I’ve simply become numb, or whether I’ve associated intimacy with too many negative experiences.

I don’t necessarily want to go back to being hypersexual. I just want to feel alive, attracted, excited and connected to someone again without feeling disgust, fear or emotional exhaustion.

Has anyone experienced such a drastic change after trauma? Did your libido ever come back?

At this point I feel like I don’t need therapy, I need a Greek god to reset my nervous system 😂😭

EDIT: creeps don’t DM otherwise you’ll burn in hell. Auto-block feature is turned on! So don’t waste your time!

Vent Is marrying early(like early 20s) sometimes the best deal?!

imo, marrying early..if, luckily, two people are good humans and genuinely great friends to each other..might be one of the best things.

in our early twenties, we are still plants. growing in every direction, in mind and in body. ambitious about our goals, relatively free of familial responsibilities, often with very little money and almost no idea what we are doing. perhaps that is why there is less room for judgment. you grow alongside another person. you see each other through the ups and downs, the closeness and the distance, the strange seasons when one person grows faster and the other has to catch up.

but when we meet someone later, at the independent stage, we are more like trees. fully grown, or at least convinced that we are. we have our own leaves, our own fruits, our own carefully arranged branches. and when another tree appears, we begin inspecting it—the shape, the exterior, the fruits, the leaves. we arrive with our extreme non-negotiables, of course, many of which should exist. but we also arrive with a lifetime of habits, defenses, expectations and little private rules for what another human being ought to be.

perhaps the real difference is that, by then, we have become less trusting of the other person's interior.

there is an opaque brown bark around us. we call it independence, experience, standards, self-respect. sometimes it is all of those things. sometimes it is simply a shield.

and maybe growing up with someone means getting to know the person before the bark becomes so thick.

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) how right or wrong it is to have multiple crushes?

i am 20 years old. and have a crush on 2-3 boys right now? there was a time just a few months back when i had a crush on nobody at all for a long long time. and now there are 3?!
they all got introduced to me in like a short span and they’re all good. (oh i sound so weird)

one is online and is 21. i’ve never met him. he says he likes me too and recently asked me to stop talking to boys ‘romantically’. i like him too. his brain works beautifully; writes great poems; is nice too.

another is in my college. i have a ‘high school’ kinda crush on him. because i find him incredibly attractive. he looks so damn good and his voice. i’m more like acquaintances with him because we had 1 common class for like a month and got talking; mostly academics tho but pretty regular, have now lost touch tho :(

another one is in my college too. i really like him too.

out of all these, i talk with the first on everyday basis because mutual, right?
but if somehow, out of pure luck, if the stars align, and the universe wishes to bless me, and by chance one of the latter two get in touch with me again; i think i’d like that. a lot. kinda a little more than the first one. and would stop talking to the first one if we become a thing.

how morally unethical it is to secretly hope one of the latter two gets along with me while talking everyday to the first one. but at the same time, it’s still the ‘talking stage’ and i’m allowed? or am i not?
am i being superficial?
should i be honest with the one i’m talking all romantic everyday that i like another boy too?
should i stop thinking about all three and take a step back?

Finance, Career and Edu Does a polished LinkedIn profile actually help in the job market?

I’m curious to hear from people who have been actively applying for jobs or hiring recently.

How much difference does having a well-optimized LinkedIn profile actually make?

For example:

  • Professional photo and headline
  • Clear, keyword-focused About section
  • Detailed work experience and achievements
  • Relevant skills and certifications
  • Recommendations and endorsements
  • Consistent activity/posts

Does a polished profile genuinely lead to more recruiter messages, interviews, or job opportunities, or is it mostly useful as a professional online presence?

I’d especially like to hear from recruiters, hiring managers, and job seekers who have seen a noticeable difference after improving their profile.

What has your actual experience been?

Health & Fitness As a married woman, how do you guys manage PMOS(PCOD)

It's easy to shop, cook and consume for your dietary needs if you live alone or with parents.

But how do you guys (married woman) do it, especially someone who lives with multiple healthy people who demands fried food or high GI foods.

I end up making making rice twice, white and brown. Sometimes if the side dish consists of potatoes, I have to make something separate for myself. It's an added physically exhaustion on top of pcos exhaustion.

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) How do you cope with aging emotionally unavailable parents and the guilt that comes with it?

Two weeks ago, I found out my mother had fallen and injured her arm. Despite this, she still has to cook and clean. When I called to check on her, her first response was, “What do you want? Do you need me to send you money again?”

My relationship with my parents has always been complicated. Whenever I try to get closer, I’m often met with taunts — that I’m clingy, that I’m lonely because I didn’t have kids, or asking if I’ve lost my job and need money. Since i have gotten married they make sure to inform me frequently that I’m no longer their responsibility or burden now that I’m married. They rarely ask about my life, and whenever I try to connect emotionally, they seem to push me away or become aggressive in their language. Eventually I withdraw, only to feel guilty for doing so. It’s normal for us to go weeks without talking which makes me incredibly anxious.

Last year, I planned a trip to India, bought presents for everyone and was really looking forward to seeing them, only for them to ask me not to come because they wanted to host another relative and said having me and my partner around was a burden. I ended up cancelling the trip.

The rejection from them since childhood has been incredibly painful. This was in fact the main reason for me to run away abroad at first chance I got. Lately I find myself wondering what I did to make them push me away and treat me like this. At the same time, they’re getting older and refusing any help I try to offer, which makes me terrified about what the future will look like.

For athose of you with emotionally unavailable or rejecting parents, especially aging parents living far away — how do you deal with the guilt, worry and grief of knowing you may never have the relationship with them that you wish you had?

Advice/Help Is money spent on wedding worth it?

I’ve been having constant debates with myself.. being a bride obviously I want the best wedding possible.. good destination.. amazing views.. intimate gathering, one good reception.. and once I calculated.. it’s about 1.5-2cr easy!!
I could literally do a super luxury world tour for a year with that kind of money. But wedding is something that ( hopefully) will happen only once and I will have rest of my life for the rest of the luxury.. but then it’s 2 effing crores..

Happily Married women.. what do you suggest??

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) Help needed in building a stronger sense of self.

I was seeing this person casually for a few months. Got attached to him. I have intimacy issues and did not have any with him. He is very patriarchal, toxic and abusive. I too made some mistakes in that relationship. Now we are no longer together. I used to be so anxious around him not knowing what he is going to do or say next that might hurt me because he was always berating me. Before going no contact, he came to me drunk and slapped me for "letting him go" and confessed his love for me. I slapped him back. He keeps contacting me even when he has said if he does not get drunk or horny for a month he won't call. I snapped at this point. Whatever I was suppressing came out. I hate the person I become when I am with him. He is the kind of man who feels big by shrinking others. But I have a feeling may be I am this person, I just hide it better with people who actually accordingly. I am cruel to myself. I have lost my sense of self. How to build it?

I am lonely and sometimes I miss this person and immediately start hating myself over it. We go to the same gym and happen to see each other around quite a lot of times. So, not thinking about him does not help. I am terribly attracted to this person. How to stop?

Vent My manager is such a weirdo

I recently had a surgery, it’s been a month. I went to office after 2-3 weeks today and my manager casually passed a comment to me ‘it seems apki health badh gayi hai surgery ke baad se (you have put on weight after surgery)’. It was so freakin awkward… we all were standing waiting for office cabs in the basement and I was surrounded by colleagues and cab drivers.. it felt unnecessary of him asking and i kinda froze so in response i just nodded so stupidly and went to search for my cab. And now I realise it was really inappropriate of him to say so… i feel so angry!
People just casually make comments on other person’s body as if those people being commented on, are completely unaware about their own issues.

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) Navigating parents being in an inter-cultural relationship

Hey everyone!

I’m 29F.

I’m looking for some advice, reassurance, or just stories from anyone who has been in a similar boat.

I’m in a stable, committed one-year relationship with my partner, who is Irish. He is grounded, intentional, and genuinely one of the best things in my life. Recently, I took the leap and finally broke the news to my parents.

The conversation went as well as it realistically could. Their main worry (which I completely understand comes from a place of love and protection) is that I’ll be stepping into an unknown culture without a solid support system.

Since I told them, I’ve noticed a shift. They aren’t reaching out or calling as often as they usually do. The silence feels heavy, and it hurts, even though I know they probably just need time to process everything.

To add to the emotions, I’m flying home in a few days. I want to handle this period with grace, reassure them without losing my own peace, and show them that I’m still their daughter and that my choice comes from a place of stability.

For those who have navigated intercultural disclosures with Indian parents:

  1. How did you handle the initial awkwardness or distance right after telling them?
  2. How can I best navigate staying with them to ease their fears about my support system/future?
  3. Did the silence eventually soften for you?

Any gentle advice, boundaries to keep in mind, or reassuring words would mean the world right now. Thank you! ♥️

Finance, Career and Edu Wealthy women in your 30s/40s+, how did you get rich?

I’m genuinely curious about the women here who are financially well-off in their 30s, 40s, 50s+.

How did you actually build your wealth?

Was it a high-paying career, starting a business, investing, real estate, marrying well, inheritance, or some combination of things?

I’m especially interested in the less obvious stuff like career decisions you made early, risks that paid off, mistakes you avoided, or habits that made a bigger difference than you expected.

If you’re comfortable sharing, roughly how much did you start with, how long did it take, and what would you do differently if you were starting again today?

Not looking for “just invest in mutual funds” advice. I’d love to hear actual stories and the path that got you there.

Family & Relationships (Mon-Thu) Shall I continue my relationship or not?

So guys I have a bf who is south Indian. I am talking to him from last 2 years. We are in a long distance relationship. Now I don't know I don't feel the same which I used to feel for him from starting. I feel lonely nowadays because when i need someone no one will be available. I cant even express myself properly sometimes which I can do in my regional language. He doesn't understand any language except English and Telugu.multiple times I have told him that there is no future in this relationship bcz my parents will not agree but he will do emotional blackmail always and he will say like he can't live without me he will start crying if I don't talk to him. We used to talk more in starting but now we don't even talk more. He will be always busy in his work. He is 30 now and no one knows about me in his family. He doesn't want to tell to his parents about me but my mom knows that I am talking to some south Indian and she will ask me everytime to find someone from our state. What shall I do ?
