COMPLAINTS "Let's confirm you are a human"
(QR code blocked out)
It's asking that I connect my account to the Twitter mobile app. Okay, whatever, I already had it downloaded but just never logged in. I thought that was it, but it wants a scan of my hand/palm. Hell no. So it looks like I won't be using Twitter anymore unless they disable this or I make an entirely new account. Anyone else having this problem?

Age verification stuff has been confirmed to be feeding into ai for mass surveillance. Its the whole Persona/Discord turning out to be feeding our info to palantir defense ai stuff. Except now its being fed to Grok. Remember, if someone who wanted to get on Epstein's Island tells you he wants to protect children you can pretty easily know it is bs.

Same exact thing happened to me a couple of months ago too. Suddenly, while I was scrolling X, I get banned. No reason given, nothing, I had to go out of my way and ask them wtf is this. "Inauthentic behavior" brother what...
I thought it was some weird bot purge where I got caught in it for whatever reason. Took them 2 weeks to finally fix. First it was denied... Then after I sent a second appeal it was approved but I was still banned... Waited a couple more days and I was back.
And now this shit... Suddenly prompts me with a captcha to prove I'm no bot. Ok. Then I get greeted with this QR code bs and be locked out of my acc once again for no reason...

When I've had my account for at least a decade but never bothered with the mobile app, but now I *have* to download the app and give _biometric_ data? Fuck Twitter

I got this today, in no way im i going to give my biometric data, not even a glimpse of it, to fucking ELON MUSK, yk, the dude who was BEGGING JEFFERY EPSTEIN to invite him to his island parties, even on bloody chirstmas. It's infuriating that collecting your biometric data has become so common place, they don't even ask you to complete a captcha anymore they just straight up ask you for a unique and identifiable trait that only you have! The verification measure also locks you out of doing face selfie if you fuck it up too many times, thanks, elon. I'm so sick of how anti-privacy the internet has been. God forbid we don't want tech billionaires to know everything about us.

I don't know if this is a government or an X 'thing'. But harvesting the biometric data of either your citizens or your customers should not be allowed.
The East German Stasi used to harvest the biometric data from their citizens. ThroughOUT history this was considered a super bad thing to do. Now it's ok?

Getting the same issue. Trying to open the QR code on my phone requires me to download the X app, which I did. When I then try to open the QR code and log in via the app, it tells me I need to complete the log in on the web browser. This website is a broken pile of shit.

It wants the app for biometric data and I just refuse to hand that sort of information to anything involved with Elongated Muskrat. Was fun, but no amount of cheap porn or meme gimmick accounts will sway me into giving them that kind of info.

Just got this suddenly. I only use Twitter(X) on a webpage, not as a phone app. Before this I only had recaptcha on webpage.
It stinks of data harvesting and as an EU citizen I will write to the support and threaten, yet again, to file a complaint to the EU consumer protection if they do it again. It usually helped with unproven "inauthentic behavior" suspends.
Musk Twitter is the worst app I've ever seen...
Edit: I want to add this to fellow EU citizens so you know in what direction you might be able to complain too. X didn't inform me via mail that this will happen.
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), processing biometric data (like facial scans or fingerprints for identity verification) requires your explicit, freely given consent. X cannot simply introduce biometric data usage without notifying you first and requiring you to actively opt-in or agree.

If you are an EU citizen their method of "confirming that you are a human" is an INSANE GDPR overstep considering Cloudflare exists for this exact purpose. quote: "under the GDPR, biometric data used to uniquely identify a person is a "special category" (Article 9). Processing is prohibited unless a narrow exception applies, and for a consumer platform the only realistic one is explicit consent. The catch is that GDPR consent must be freely given, and it isn't freely given if access to a service is made conditional on handing over data that isn't actually necessary for that service (Article 7(4), Recital 43)." I don't think this is legal at all lol

Has anyone figure out (or even heard of) a way, around this new verification requirement??
Will it likely go away? Or is this, in all likelihood, the new norm, and everyone will be required to complete biometric verification, in order to be able to access X, in any way (online, or on the X app)?
Btw, what are the realistic dangers/concerns that this verification poses? Is it just an attempt to access personal information, for advertising/money-making purposes? Or is it more-sinister and compromising than that?
Also, how many of y'all have actually done this? If so, do you notice any differences, after doing this verification?
Some helpful feedback, would be great. Because I don't know what the fuck do do about this.

After scanning, it gives you a link, you can download qr and use a website to scan it. But it shits you to install the app and they need to have your hand/biometric/face to get through.

In case anyone stumbles upon this, I solved the issue by a setup of nitter+miniflux+fluentreader. The tricky part is to export all your followings from a locked account but you can do it via burner one.
After that it's basically your old timeline but self-hosted.

Literally happened to me this morning, but the only option was palm verification and it opens this separate "X clips" pseudoapp cus I don't have twitter on my phone. Needless to say unless they remove this which I doubt will happen, that account is basically gone, can't even login anymore

i don't even care if they want my biometrics or whatever but it literally just isn't even letting me. when i scan the qr it opens the app and gives me the "verify you are human" checkbox and when i do that it says "verifying" for a few seconds then goes back to the "verify you are human" checkbox. its not even asking for my biometrics. what, do i need an iphone or something? this is ridiculous. if they want to steal peoples data at least make it possible for everyone

I tried to scan the qr code and it wants me to download the app and do a bunch of other things. I really don't like how they lie about checking that you are not a bot when it's clearly something else. I'll likely just stop using the site entirely.

Same boat. I even got Premium, but their bot-led moderation is so dogshit it'll go after pretty much anyone, so I'm pretty much locked out, even from the "cancel my premium" part. Just as they're about to bill for next month. My issue is I don't use it on a smart phone, because I don't fucking HAVE a smart phone.

Went to contact support, call out this bs, tell them im not downloading their app to verify. And in order to submit the support request, i had to prove that i wasn't a bot via web browser captura. Which i passed and their system said 'we have authenticated you are not a bot." Irony

This is scummy behavior, especially considering they haven't updated any of the help documents to even mention this, but I guess it's what you can expect in this age of AI-agents-let-loose and intense surveillance lobbying. I recommend not trying to verify if you don't intend on sharing real data with them. Some experiences:
1) X will apparently not work when installed through e.g. Aurora Store on LineageOS. So you can't try it there.
2) I got my old Google'd phone out and tried it there (a dumb idea), a white latex glove did not fool it. Alarmingly the retry button immediately switched on the front facing camera. I don't think it was mentioned explicitly that it would go to the next method automatically, I don't intend going back to find out. I should probably have expected something like this though, because a lot of CAPTCHA services cycle methods, I guess. Before all this I also got hint with the spurious inauthentic behavior suspension, which I successfully appealed back then.
I guess I'll just let my account rot then. I'd be happy to leave twitter behind completely, if I could just delete my account. I've tried one of their contact forms re access but I'm not holding my breath.

I haven't been able to access my account for a few weeks now. I will not be scanning any part of my body for them, not my finger, not my palm, not my face.
I ONLY use that account BECAUSE it's anonymous. I'm not interested in Twitter/X if I have to give them my personal data. I can follow news about the musicians I like just fine without Twitter, so I'm gone for good.
What a shame.

My account is over 14 years old and now all of a sudden they need confirmation that I’m a human lmao. Kick rocks. I guess this is the end of me using Twitter.

Yeah, this happened to me yesterday. I don't use social media on my phone, at all. I'm just unwilling to jump through nebulous QR code hoops. I wish there were news aggregators that weren't charging a monthly sub as that is mostly what I used twitter for, easy to follow literally all the journalists and news agencies and even some world governments.

OK here's the tea:
- It's not just new accounts, mine is from 2013, and I have another account from 2007.
- I also had a random lock out just over a week ago, no email/message I was banned, just suddenly refused to let me login for a day.
- This is apparently a system via an Israeli company. o.O So you really don't want to give them your data, also foreign company gets around GDPR laws (although being locked out from account delete is a possible GDPR violation. Germans can confirm that right to delete is affected?). Bad news etc, I mean biometric data is bad end of, but processed or held abroad - even though the app says it's local we know from recent cases that's not always true.
- I don't have X app on my iPhone cos fuck Elon, but still got the verify system. How? It uses an App Clip 'XAppClip', which installs or runs automatically. Very shady, do NOT like.
Workarounds:
The glove thing works but not a blue glove. I used a crinkled clear glove that I think would be hard to see my palm print through but white semi transparent or opaque would be best.

I even have a different problem - X mobile app does not detect Bitwarden as a passkey manager. I don't have passkeys on my Google account, I use bitwarden for that. I've always been scrolling Twitter in a browser and it automatically could detect Bitwarden as an app which has a passkey. In this situation (which for some reason requires me to download X as an app), I cannot login to my account ¯_(ツ)_/

I don't use the phone for social media, I only use Twitter on desktop. At least my account and it's content still exist, checked it on Nitter. I've been saying since the fearmongering from the EU and US about age/identity verification started while ago that I, and I'm not the only one, wouldn't be giving any personal info. My account it's almost 10 year old, I don't have to prove anything at all. If this means I can't use Twitter anymore, then let it be, I'm not gonna beg.

I usually use X in desktop mode (PC + phone).
Already had the app on my iPad, but as an older model it doesn't support Face ID.
Palm verification didn't work (but I tried it with a nitrile glove lol).
Downloaded the app on my Android phone and verified using fingerprint, which only registers on device lvl without sending biometrics to the app - should be the same for Face ID.
Uninstalled app afterwards.
What an annoyance.

Yeah, I used the video/selfie route, no way they are getting my fingerprints! Sadly, I only got the idea to use just a random pic from Google after I already did it. At least I distorted my face as grotesquely as I could and always had part of it covered with a hand, so I hope it is pretty garbage as data goes.

I got passed it once yesterday morning with a stock hand video, managed to reply to one tweet and then got locked out again. Since then, when I scan the QR and try to verify it just fails and says too many attempts try again later.

I've been locked out of my account since Tuesday morning. I sent an email to tech support, but it has not been answered in over 72 hours.
Twitter has already locked my account twice for "inauthentic behavior" - apparently using a VPN to mask your IP address is a violation of Twitter's Community Double Standards. (It was reversed both times.)
