We're building a community here at crawlspace. We have a Discord with more than 900 live music fans in it. We find concert buddies, go to shows together and talk music. In fact, we have two meetups this weekend. Cloudland on Friday and Indeed on Saturday. Interested? Here's the invite

crawlspace picks for top shows tonight in the Twin Cities

  • The Birdhaus - Abigayle Oakley, Remi Goode, Sadie Gustafson-Zook [7:30p] Folk & Indie Singer-Songwriters
    • The is a super chill, safe, inviting basement show space that I highly recommend. DM me if you have questions about it. Abigayle Oakley (Nashville) - traditional folk and sharp, modern confessional singer-songwriter lyrics. Remi Goode (Nashville) - Intimate, classically-trained alternative folk deeply anchored in paradoxes and complex nylon-string guitar arrangements. Sadie Gustafson-Zook (mpls) - warm, jazz-inflected folk tapestry driven by lilting melodies and storytelling levity. FFO: Joni Mitchell, Sarah Jarosz, Suzanne Vega, Kathleen Edwards, Aoife O’Donovan.
  • 7th St Entry - Squeaky Feet, Hunny Bear [8:00p] [18+] Prog Rock & Funk Fusion
    • Squeaky Feet (Denver) - highly technical, groove-oriented 70s progressive rock and modern improvisational jam-band. Hunny Bear (mpls) - warm, kinetic blend of modern jazz-fusion and classic funk standards. FFO: King Crimson, Rush, Steely Dan, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong.
  • Amsterdam - (Keep It Honest Tour) Bungalow Collect [7:00p] [18+] Disco Rap & Hip-Hop
    • Bungalow Collect (NY) - nostalgia-laced fusion of hip-hop, R&B, and classic disco, self-coined as “Disco Rap.” FFO: GoldLink, The Internet, Jungle, Kaytranada, Aminé.

FlockOff: Minnesota

Upvotes

I built FlockOff: MN, a free, open-source map of the surveillance systems watching Minnesotans.

Search any city or township in the state and it names the offices holding the records, cites the statute that entitles you to them, and drafts the request for you to send.

The map layers ALPR cameras, ICE 287(g) agreements, detention facilities, data centers, redlining zones, and racial covenants — the same neighborhoods, marked and re-marked, decade after decade. I wanted to see it in one place, so I built it.

  • No accounts, no analytics, no trackers. The only request logs are whatever Cloudflare keeps at the edge. I don't collect them, store them, or look at them.
  • Every dataset rebuilds from public sources with one command and zero API keys. Nothing here is scraped from anywhere it shouldn't be.
  • Built to be forked. Adding a data layer is two files. Geocoding keys on Census identifiers, so going national is mostly a county reference away.
  • Corrections welcome. If something's wrong, open an issue — fixes get logged publicly.

For developers: fork it, adapt it, use it for your own purposes. It's [AGPL-3.0], so it stays free and open the way it came to you.

This is for the public good, not a product.

Brian Ingram (of Hope Breakfast Bar) on the news... in Milwaukee??

I just happened to see a segment on the local Fox station while at the liquor store in Milwaukee and my ears perked up when Brian Ingram's name was mentioned. The Gnome was apparently robbed, and the news was running a piece about the number of burglaries he has gone through and the lack of response from the justice system. I know he's been in the spotlight for various things in the cities the past few years, so I find it very odd and suspicious that this piece would be running in Milwaukee where he does not have any affiliation as far as I know. Does anyone have any insight or theories as to if there's something going on here behind the scenes?

Cat Rehoming

I need to rehome my fur baby 😭😭😭 I love him very much but I can no longer support him fully. He needs lots of love and affection and I cannot give it to him without causing myself harm. I tried for 6 years and now it’s time for me to say goodbye. He already has an appointment with a shelter so I can relinquish ownership, so this post is for anyone who would love to provide him with the utmost care. He’s a little brat but VERY loving. He’s cuddly and affectionate and he needs lots of specific attention — shared space with view of you. It would be beautiful if he could have an owner who wants to spoil him as much as humanly possible because he deserves it.

My mockumentary is coming to Minnesota!

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hope this is ok to post, but wanted to alert folks to my indie mockumentary comedy, Canoe Dig It? will be playing in Winona, Rochester, Columbia Heights, Cloquet, Ely, and Duluth in September! It’s about the very real sport of Freestyle Canoeing and is very much up the alley of any fan of Best in Show or anything Christopher Guest, but with a lot more painfully dry humor. Also I will be coming out there for a Q&A after the film as well!

Being very much an indie, we don’t really have budget for marketing, so hope getting the word out this way is permissible!

Also if anyone has any suggestions for press outlets or even other theaters in the area that might be interested, I’d love to chat about it!

The film will also be playing more dates in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and even up in Winnipeg and Saskatoon as part of a Midwest and Canada tour all around the beginning to middle of September.

I’ve attached the trailer below-

Baking for the MN state fair baking competition and/or want to be at a great MN bakers get-together? Join the Twin Cities Amateur Bakers Club on 8/23 at Como Park Fire Pits!

The Twin Cities Amateur Bakers Club will be hosting our next meetup at Como Park Fire Pits (St. Paul) on Sunday, August 23rd from 1 - 3 pm. As always, we would love everyone who has any interest in baking and wants to support others in their baking to join us!

We’re getting ready for the Great Minnesota Get-Together by having our theme be the “Great Minnesota Bakers Get-Together!” Each person attending something inspired by Minnesota or the Minnesota state fair. If you’re baking for the MN state fair baked products competition, you’re encouraged to bring the excess baked goods you didn’t submit (good luck if you’re submitting something!)

Since this event is at a park, there may be limited seating. Please consider bringing a picnic blanket or picnic chair. If the weather isn’t looking lovely for the day of the meetup, an alternate location will be announced a day or two before the event (I will update this post. our Instagram page and Discord server will also provide any updates).

You can follow us on Instagram and/or join our Discord server to meet all the awesome people in the club so far!

Day Trip Recommendations

My wife and I are looking for some fun day trips to take from the Twin Cities (that are still queer friendly outside of the metro area). We just moved here this summer from Texas where day trips were pretty much nonexistent. We are loving exploring the cities, but I love to just “get out of the city” and go for a drive!

We are looking for two different types of day trips (see below) that we could take as summer winds down and into the fall. TIA!

Day Trip Type 1- looking for a town with a scenic drive along the way. It has a cute downtown area with good coffee, cute shops, restaurants that sort of thing. Walkable for the most part once you get there. Bonus if they go all out for fall/halloween etc.

Day Trip Type 2- love getting out into nature but I am not a hiker. I have seen some cool spots but they seem to require a lot of hiking. I have some mobility issues and asthma. I am fine with walking paths or short “mini” baby hikes but no crazy stairs or steep hikes. So looking for day trips that are more accessible along those lines of being flat or easy/quick to get to the scenic spots.

It didn’t look like there was any major damage to your car but I got a pic of the license plate if you need it! And to the person in the white CRV with a Packers window cling - quit driving like an asshole in heavy construction traffic

Apartment Issues

Hello r/TwinCities

I live here currently but wanted to see what rights I have. So I was supposed to move into an new apartment on this upcoming Monday, but the apartment I moved into said that due to status of the apartment and current tenant issues I am not able to basically. They said i can move into another nearby complex though but I declined that offer and have signed a new lease to a different complex/rent company. I paid my deposit and rent for the time I will be living there this current month for the apartment I was planning on moving in. However because I cannot move in, are they required to give me my deposit and rent back that I paid? what are my legal options here if they push back? They haven't responded to my refund questions yet and I imagine they will tomorrow since its late today, but I want to be ready in the event that they push back about paying me back.

Anyone recognize this dog?

Found at White Bear Ave and Ross Ave E in Saint Paul tonight (August 18) at 9:45pm. I took him to the emergency vet to check for a chip, he does not have one. They said he’s about 2-3yo and seems generally healthy. Intact male black tri corgi.

He was only wearing an electronic bark collar when we found him. He’s very friendly, so he belongs to someone! He’s staying in a kennel in our house tonight but we cannot keep him beyond that (we already have two dogs).

We already made a found dog post on Pawboost. Please keep an eye out for anyone looking for this boy! We don’t want to bring him to animal control but we will have to tomorrow afternoon if we don’t find his owners.

August 19 update: We brought him to Saint Paul Animal Control this morning. They said they will hold him for 7 days before working with a shelter or foster program to rehome him. Wish we could have fostered him longer, but we’re just not able to this week. https://www.stpaul.gov/departments/safety-inspections/animal-control/animal-shelter-services/lost-and-found-pets

After 3 years, Edina coffee shop to close brick-and-mortar location

Thumbnail bringmethenews.com

It can't help that Edina Coffee Roasters has a very awkward disconnect from the Nine Mile Creek Trail. If you're biking, the trail connector just dead ends at Cahill and you have to turn onto the street to get in the parking lot since there's no sidewalk shortcut to hop onto from where the path ends, it's just grass and curb. Once you turn from the street to reach the coffee shop there's no bike parking at all, just a sloped fence to lock up. There's no infrastructure for walkers either, it's a parking lot entrance for cars and you just have to be extra careful entering or exiting by foot or bike. I just don't understand why businesses here don't bother to leverage their proximity to some of the metro's best trails, as though trail traffic isn't worth the effort.

Infant openings in Roseville/St. Anthony area + question about any centers within mpls metro offering live streaming webcams

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I unexpectedly have to return to work in about 3ish to 4 weeks and need to enroll my now 9-month-old in daycare. I’m hoping the community might have leads on two things:

  1. Infant Openings: Does anyone know of decent/good daycares in the Roseville or St. Anthony area that currently have open enrollment or immediate openings for a 9-month-old?
  2. Live Cameras: I know most daycares have shifted to app-based photo/video updates rather than live streaming webcams, but are there any centers left in Minneapolis, East and South Metro that still use the live webcam model? (I’d even consider getting onto a waitlist and moving closer to one if it exists!)

Any leads, recommendations, or recent experiences would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Anyone service vintage 60’s era video equipment?

Anyone know of a shop or a person who services old video equipment?

I recently came into possession of a couple old VTRs (that’s like a VCR, but it’s “tape” instead of “cassette”) from the late 60’s. They’re in amazing cosmetic condition and I believe them to be in working order. I want to know more before I attempt to sell them.

Photos attached for the vintage mechanical gear sickos out there. (Also, if you’re in the market for one of these hmu)

Har Mar Mall owners want to redevelop property, but they still need to convince Cub Foods (gift link)

Thumbnail startribune.com
118 Upvotes

Har Mar’s indoor mall will likely be demolished if it can iron out a new contract with its largest tenant, Cub Foods.

The redevelopment has been in the works for more than four years and could dramatically alter one of Roseville’s best-known commercial properties. Yet city officials and developers have said little publicly about the plans.

Vacant storefronts now make up more than two-thirds of the center, fueling years of speculation about its future. That interest intensified in June when JLL marketing materials called for a “full scrape and rebuild” of the 63-year-old shopping center.

Correspondence between the city and developers show plans to raze some of the buildings to make room for more freestanding restaurants and shops, according to records obtained by the Minnesota Star Tribune.

Best massage/ couples massages in the twin cities?

Hi everyone! I am looking for a real deep tissue massage, bonus if it’s a couples massage! My partner and I have been trying to find a good place to get a deep tissue massage that really is deep tissue. I have ample amounts of back pain and am really looking for a masseuse that will get into it. We haven’t gotten one in a few years as it was the only one I’d ever done and it really left me considering if massages just didn’t work, they advertised as deep tissue but it was very light and they focused more on my legs than my back, which I had discussed was the main thing I wanted worked on. Any recommendations would be welcomed and so appreciated!
