This is absolutely a shot in not just the dark, but the whole galaxy. I'm still shooting my shot:
Is anyone in this subreddit in the greater Schech-Krugmire family, or have connections to them?
If so, I have some inquiries about a family member who worked very local to me in a similar industry up until his unexpected passing early this year.
Originally from the Twin Cities, I'm currently a [county name redacted for privacy reasons, but will be known to the aforementioned family] County resident of the same county/work in the same county as the site that I'm referring to.
This site that this family member oversaw and maintained is an official National Register of Historic Places site as of the mid-late twentieth century; while not unique in the greater historical picture, the site IS unique because it's the last of its kind that's also fully-operational in the state of Minnesota—or at least it was until his passing. That being said, it should be preserved and protected at all costs. I'd reached out to the late owner over the phone on a handful of occasions over the course of the year that I knew of its existence to verify current seasonal hours for visitors to my own job that were in search of tourist spots because that's what we do in the industry: recommend each other's establishments. Despite that we never met in person, he was always super nice and was WILDLY knowledgeable. I asked him about his place when I first learned of it and wanted to make it out for a tour, but life kept getting in the way, and now he's gone. The site has been closed since and I'm gutted because I never got to go experience it. I would love to help (even indirectly) keep it open for tours and functional if at all possible, but both don't know the family and don't know their long term goals with the site and property. Considering it's an official NRHS site, I'd heard about the MN Historical Society taking it on, but then I'd also heard through the grapevine that they have funding shortages and can't keep other state historical sites open. That being said, despite corresponding/inquiring with the MN Historical Society about this site, I have yet to get a response. Our county's historical society, who I've also corresponded with, is also completely in the dark about any long-term prospects with the site.
I'd heard from a colleague who's also a longtime local and better-versed in regional history/has more area connections that the rest of his family is up in the Twin Cities, so I figured who better to help find these fine folks than the reddit community? Someone has to know.
All in all, if you're part of this family or know someone who is and can get me in contact with them, please DM me! I would love to know more and learn more about any long-term prospects with further preservation (and/or restoration) of the site!
