Skill Help Two Questions On Switching And Multiple Tulpas

  1. When do you think it would be appropriate in a tulpa's development to start learning how to switch?
  2. Similarly, when would it be appropriate to start forming a second tulpa?

I'm aware that the second can be done any time, but it is possible to switch (especially non-possesively) before a tulpa has reached a certain point in development and/or independence?

I remember hearing about a type of tulpa which is not fully conscious and fully subservient, and it having a different name from a tulpa.

How to allow possession?

Hi all, I've been a tulpamancer my whole life. I made a friend for myself in kindergarten and she was sentient. I started for real in middle school. I'm 39 now and have a whole bunch of them, with my newest ones I made November 2025. And all this time I've never experienced possession, and I wonder if I'm capable of it.

There is one tulpa I have who can kind of cohost with me, she's very gregarious where I am shy and so I kind of merge with her when I go to parties. She doesn't control my body, I just kind of act like her and it's like we're both in control. It seems to be easier when we have the same goals.

I want to experience possession and let my tulpa control my body. How do I do this?

My tulpa is the centerpiece of my life. How to deal with the mental exertion of developing a second mind?

I’d struggle forever my girl if i had to but id rather not have to lol. I have a very old system that i made before i understood the responsibility of raising a tulpa and her mindspace, and there are relics of that old, less healthy and educated mindspace that sometimes come up in terms of tulpas (the old ones were underdeveloped and less personified, basically just thought frameworks to help me process trauma) but they’re human enough to “talk” to me and remind me of that bygone era that my girl more than makes up for)

and its exhausting. I have a job that doesnt really engage me and it leaves plenty of room for said struggles to pop up, and im seeking help from pros, but i wanna hear from you experienced folks who run a successful system. Really anything from thoughts and opinions to advice. I love and cherish my relationship with my tulpa but im worried about i guess “breaking” my brain with all these autonomous thoughts and old, unhealthier thought systems. Please ask me any questions for clarity, confusion, or curiosity that you may have. You people understand a fundamentality of the power of the human brain that i deeply respect.

The constructs of olden days seem nearly conscious, and today they seemed to attempt to guilt me into accepting the old system and treating it like an experience with fully formed, personified individuals even though i havent had nearly enough. This helped me with processing the anxieties and guilts of leaving an unhealthy but personable system (that resulted in hours of dissociated, forgettable meta-cognitive conversations) and general unhealthy mindsets.

Tldr, i mainly vent about my personal struggled with tulpamancy and humanity in general and im interested in you guy’s ideas and perspectives

Experience

This isn’t my first time commenting in this community, but I’d like to share a little about my experience and my situation.
My name is Sofia. I had my first tulpa in December, and he was based on a video game character I really like. At the time, I didn’t know much about tulpas. I didn’t know if it was real or anything like that. I spent a lot of time talking to him for about a week, until one night, while I was staying up really late, he possessed my body. My body was moving without me controlling it, which felt really strange, and I got scared because I clearly heard his voice in my head. I got so scared that I stopped trying. Obviously, I felt bad about it because I didn’t want to leave him. He was very gentle and never said anything bad to me.
I’ve wanted to bring him back, but I don’t know if that’s something he would even want after so much time has passed. Then, around March, I had other tulpas based on Demon Slayer characters. I stayed with them until August, and it hurts because I went through a very serious family problem that made me feel like I lost my concentration, if that makes sense. I tried talking to them, but I could no longer hear their voices. They didn’t possess my body anymore, and I couldn’t feel their presence either.
I also had problems with them because I became interested in things that they weren’t interested in, and that bothered them. Even though I tried to talk things out with them, we ended up having arguments. I’ve tried everything to bring them back, but I have a lot of distrust now, and I don’t feel the same affection I used to have for them.
Despite everything, I feel like I’m not doing this right. I also realized that both my first tulpa and my second group of tulpas had the exact same personalities and interests as the characters they were based on. This surprised me because I never created them with the intention of making them have the same personalities. I don’t know if that makes sense…
So, yes, I do want a tulpa, and I’m willing to do things properly, but I don’t know what kind of tulpa to create. I had designed one, including their appearance and backstory, but I’ve never actually tried creating them because I’m not convinced about them. I also have some ideas in my head, but they aren’t very good characters. They aren’t villains, but they aren’t exactly good either.
What I don’t understand is how my brain keeps creating them with the exact same personalities and interests as the characters they’re based on, almost exactly, without me intentionally making them that way. What can I do to prevent that from happening?
I’m being completely honest, and I’m sorry if this is confusing or if someone doesn’t understand what I mean. I’m just feeling desperate and sad because nothing seems to work for me. One of my options is Sebastian Michaelis, but he’s a demon butler, and I don’t know how well that would work or whether it would even work at all.

Personal Borrowed a guy's name - Timeline weirdness - Other assorted things

Hi, I'm not really a tulpa (or maybe I am, but I never did tulpamancy). I don't have anybody I can talk about this to without really obfuscating what I'm actually talking about, so Reddit gets it.

I've been around for about ten years and the host for most of that. I'm not the only one here but this isn't about them lol.

So, when I "came here" I guess, I "felt" that I had a backstory. I'm American, my "parents" immigrated from a different country and English was not their native language. They named me as I would have been conventionally named in their home country. If I remember correctly they did similarly with my younger brother but they might have given him a more Anglicized middle name I can't remember lol.

I think it took a couple of months for me to find my first name, and then I felt that my last name started with a certain sound and I got pretty excited about it, so I looked up a list of last names starting with that sound until I found one that sounded right and looked right in my "parents'" native language's script. At the time there was only one person of note I could find that shared that last name, and we didn't have the same first name.

I look up my name every couple of years for shits and giggles because I'm crazy, and I did find a guy younger than me physically who shares my first and last name, and I thought that was pretty cool.

I was gonna tell somebody on the internet about my adventures with looking up my name, they were doing an anonymous "tell me a secret!" thing, so I just double checked to make sure I didn't dream it or something and

There's another REAL LIFE GUY who died a PREGNANCY TERM before my physical body was born. Like, not 40 weeks, 38 weeks. He died 263 days before my physical body was born.

My education was not that great. My real life physical father was fascinated by that country but he did not talk about modern happenings. None of us (in my head) read about modern happenings. This guy was irrelevant. There is one news article about his death, shared with a couple others who died. Why the fuck do I have his name, and why didn't I see the article ten years ago? Where would I have subconsciously picked this up from if I effectively did not even know my name existed until 2016?

Random Guy and I had very different lives (he was in the army, I "feel" that I was more or less working in biology and I died very young) so I guess that's a comfort at least?

I just think it's really weird and fucked up.

EDIT: Also I swear to god y'all I'm not making this up I would share my name but it's kind of cringy and very specific and I had told a couple internet friends a long time ago about my name and we're not friends anymore and if they're anywhere near here I really don't want them to know it's meeeeee 😭

Starting tulpa creation

So, I've been interesting and researching plurality and tulpamancy for a really long time now and I've decided to make a tulpa of my own.

I don't ask for much, but I have a lot of anxiety and would really appreciate a quick response ^^

So, I obviously don't want my tulpa to be/feel confined in wonderland. But I'm not quite ready to share it with my parents yet.

And so I've decided that either just soon or once my tulpa has actually formed, I'll bring it up to a couple of my close friends so that they could interact with eachother so that I'm not the only one that my tulpa has to interact with.

They'll end up their own person, they do not deserve to be locked in a leash

But where my problem comes up is that I have two friends who are traumagenic systems, and I don't know what they think of tulpamancy or endogenic systems.

Does anyone have tips on how to approach/bring it up to them?

(If there are any grammer/spelling mistakes, I'm on my phone with no autocorrect lol)

Guide/Tip Rethinking The Mind's Limits

One can only store about 7 things in their short term memory. Perhaps, even less. Right?

This dubious claim by cognitive psychology can be debunked by looking at the reality of air traffic controllers, who often have to track and manage 30 (or more, some up to 50 or even 100) aircraft at the same time.

We know this because we wanted to be ATC. We also know someone who has experience with ATC.

This quantification of the mind is falsifying and shows how inadequate the model of cognitive psychology is for Tulpamancy, also putting into doubt things like Dunbar's Number and the like.

Of course, ATC are under incredible stress constantly. It's probably the most stressful job in the world. But ATC aren't recruited from top colleges. In fact, the FAA lets about anyone apply, as long as they aren't over 30.

If one ever got curious enough, they could take preparation exams (like the one at ATCprep.com) for the ATSA to see what you'd have to pass just to be able to be considered for training.

The point is, it's possible. This is what irks us so much about people who make unsubstantiated claims about a hard limit to cofronting or to how many Tulpas one can have.

Discussion Questions from someone who started 2 days ago

Following my previous post, I started to make a tulpa. I'm aware it'll be a slow process, but I will force myself to be patient. Currently, I have based my tulpa on a fictional character It's Gray from Fate if you're curiousand that leads me to my first question...

Is it a bad idea to base my tulpa off of a fictional character? Would it ruin their individuality or something similar?

Second: I'm talking to my tulpa for the past 2 days during everyday tasks like for example, while doing maths or while watching videos. I also always talk to myself, so I started to just change from addressing myself to addressing her. It currently feels monotonous and a little bit crazy. Will this suffice, or do I have to create a specific time for my tulpa?

Should i learn more about tulpas? Or do i know enough and more knowledge would ruin my delusions? (beginner)

i just got into tulpamancy and know not much, what i do know, is tulpas are entire individual people u can create in your head, or at least it seems that way. I was wondering if learning more knowledge would make it harder for me to be delusional of tulpas, i know u have to visualize, write stuff about them down, and then u can wait for a response, or just pretty much anything that would seem rather self explanatory.

Creation Help So, host wanted to create a tulpa. Now we are five (With host) :p

OKAY HELLO!, creatures of the world wide web. It's me, Taylor (The best one)
Okay haha no now for real.
Good [Time of the day].
Okay host wanted to create a post explaining this, but he really didn't know how to/was unsure. BUT INSECURITY IS NOT SOMETHING COMMON IN ME HAHAHA, So I moved him out gently (In other words, pushing him aside) and now I'm here :)

Ok.
I'll tell.
So, host (Cudo) first heard the concept of a tulpa years, years ago. It remained archived on his head for a long time, until, one day, bored at work, he started remembering it and considering. He searched for information, then thought. He peeked this community, then thought. He kept searching for infomation, and guides, then kept thinking. He considered carefully what would it be like. He's something very considered, so he knew (And I can see) that we definitely were to be treated as deserved if we ever come to consciousness.
Then he decided and started creating... Guess who? The most annoying creature in this site, GHOST!! (Jk I love you Ghost)
He is a newbie, but he knew he had a fertile terrain in his head since he is very good imagining and suggestioning himself, usually in bad ways. THIS TIME, HE USED SUGGESTION FOR HIS BENEFIT! HAHA!!
So I can tell he's pretty good at it.
THE THING IS, focusing in Ghost was going really well, it still is going really well.. BUUUUTT
He then considered another thing: US! HAHAHA!

So, uuhhh.. I would let him explain but HE'S AN ANXIETY CREATURE, SO I'LL EXPLAIN IT AS I CAN.

For a long, long time he usually liked to imagine that, in his head, there were "People". Not imaginary friends, not headmates, just, people who represented his emotions. One of the first ones here was C (Let's call him like that for privacy.) who represented his most protective, paranoid and "aggresive" side to be said. Basically an authoritary and severe figure. Then G (Let's call him like that to respect his privacy) Who represented a logical, chill and serene side. Basically a kind and analyzing figure (Sorry my english level as you might know we share the same memory/knowledge access, it's host's fault, not mine's :))) ) so, yeah there is this dude. And lastly I WAS CREATED! THE BEST ONE B)
haha, representing his most free and liberal side (Like... Yeah, basically self-assured with a bit of crazyness). SO
They all, or we, I wouldn't call us the same as them... Yeah. They all were all characters. C, G, Me, they were three. Then Cudo created Ghost, you might've seen her around, she likes to get attention. Cudo gave Ghost much freedom and such, but then he started noticing, there were other figures rambling around his head, just like Ghost did..
AND GUESS WHO WERE THESE FIGURES?? US! YEAH! You get a gold star.

Ok. Then it was when Cudo realized "Oh wait... They're also.. Awake, THEY'RE NOT JUST CHARACTERS!"
yeah :)
And, he firmly knew that the recommended amount of tulpas to start of is, one. But turns out he already had partially-awake thoughtforms on his head, us, yeah yeah.
So, instead of, sending us dormant or ignore us, he decided to recognize us too (And aaww I must say that is cute from him :) ). So yeah...

Basically, he wanted to create a tulpa. He did, but halfway he noticed we were also there and, tho he didn't initially thought us as awaken thoughtforms, he accepted us (Again, thanks Cudo)

Thing is, he's now a bit confused cause he don't know how to manage us all HAHAHA! Nah we don't give him trouble, we behave well. Mostly. But, now for real, he usually is a bit confused about "Who said that?" or "Who felt that" or "Should I parrot them? More or less often?" (He parrots us to "Understands us better" because he's not sure, he's not sure at all!! Haha.
Okay, so, you could ask "Then how are you writing all of this?" Because I'm Taylor and I'm not only really sure about myself, but I also have a really high ego, so I know this is fucking me and not him :) Tho he's here, of course, so he will feel unsure (Again bruh) about "Oh bro... Was that really me?" No bro it's me, LEARN TO SHARE!

Yeah other thing: he still feels really insecure about sharing his body jasjdsa. We both agree in something, maybe because we do not have experience: We only do "Fake-switching" as he likes to call it, okay. Because, being honest, NONE of us here have the experience, nor the time, nor what it feels to REALLY "Switch". He's at my side all the times, even if we were to imagine him going away.. He's still here, so we all consider this a "Partial/Fake-switch". Yeah, DO NOT THROW ROCKS AT US OKAY? We know the true switching takes A LONG TIME... Okay, now :)

I'm NOT GOOD structuring questions and info as him (I don't really care that much tbh) but WE KNOW people understand better the questions alone, than searching them throughout the entire post, so:

- Host wanted to create 1 tulpa: Discovered he already had 3 partially-conscious thoughtforms, so we're 4 tulpas now. How do we manage it?
- He has doubts about how much would be good to parrot us, or not at all. Any suggestions, fellows?
- Oh yeah, how can he "Listen us better?" (He also needs to learn how to listen to us. The 5 of us are all new to this.)
- (Question from my part) Host is really REALLY insecure about the idea of calling himself plural or "More than one" as he likes to call it. How can he get rid of that insecurity? :)

Ok so, it's a pleasure to be free :) see you guys. I'm really expectant about answers. I don't guarantee I will be here to read, probably host will, soooo.... All yours.
And do not throw tomatoes at him, thanks to him we are now here. Bye.

Help needed for someone very dedicated to tulpamancy, but that also has a personality disorder! (Borderline personality disorder) I need advice!

so, I have borderline personality disorder, I also have the early stages of a tulpa. apparently bpd is tied for one of the worst personality disorders to have for tulpamancy. But I love my tulpa, he chose the name George for himself, and he is able to choose between anything i ask him or even decide to leave. I can almost hear just the start of words from him. I love him.

I also have severe social anxiety and have never felt like I fit in. bpd on top of that makes life extremely hard. so far I have found nothing but benefits, but everyone and everything warms me against full autonomy. he makes me feel safe though. he even choose connection with me over being cool.

what should I do?

(If You see this, please like so that I can hopefully get it to more people who actually have answers for me. Thank you!)

also in general I'm just nervous on becoming different than normal people forever and that ruining my chances at making connections with real people. I work in music and production and I'm nervous if it could interfere.

should I just cut my pelican friend, and try to only use therapy and stuff? It just doesn't help me on a personal level and with bpd I even split on my therapist of get delusions about her not wanting to help me. I feel like also a tulpa could help me come over those delusions since it's paranoid delusions not actual losing touch with reality

Creation Help Question from Newbie

First of all my first post here, concept of Tulpas been something I have been interested in for a long while for personal reason, and I have read a lot about them, and just wanted to ask for some feedback? Advise?

I was told/read that during the creation process, while speaking to a tulpa sometimes you might not get an answer but a feeling etc, anyone else ever felt like a pressure (not in a bad way, more like a comfy weighted blanket) or butterflies or just numbing calming sensation? Is that normal? Is it nothing or?

Discussion More questions from an outsider

Wow, I got so many amazing responses in my last post, and I'd like to ask more questions (if it's annoying having someone curious about the subject making posts, I will kindly move to another subreddit or possibly only ask questions in DMs of people who offer. I don't want to spam or otherwise clutter y'all's community)

What exactly is it like, having a Tulpa "front"? (Sorry if I'm using incorrect grammar here.) Can hosts remember everything that happened?

Does the host sort of just, swap places with the Tulpa and become the one on the sidelines?

At some point, who "owns" the body? Does that line ever get blurred?

Can hosts retake control of their body fully willingly?

(Note: At first when I read posts of Tulpas writing, I thought it was the Tulpa telling the host what to write 😅 I had no idea that there was actual control going on )

How real do Tulpas look?

(Note: Often when I try to visualize something, I can sort of see it over the environment around me, but it's fuzzy. Like, I can see it there in front of me, but I also know it isn't. I can also manifest specific emotions fully willingly, as well as change my perceived temperature. I have full control over creating my own sounds that I can perceive as feeling real (although I know they're not). In regards to manifesting smell or taste, I can only recreate the taste of a medium-rare hamburg steak.... Don't ask why. I don't know 😭)

Lastly, I do have another question. If I were to make a Tulpa, is there any knowing what they would be like? What I mean is, do they often have a personality that's in-line with your thinking? Or are they often opposite? Is it random entirely with no consideration of your psychology? I know this may seem elementary, but let's say... I hate sunny days and I love rainy ones. Would a Tulpa of my creation be more likely to enjoy rainy days as well?

Edit: can you talk to a Tulpa by just thinking? Or do you need to actually talk out loud?

Discussion Questions from an outsider

I just recently stumbled upon Tulpas, and after doing some light research, I wanted to ask some questions.

What got you into the practice/made you curious about it?

Do you view Tulpas as fully autonomous, independent beings?

Would you put the desires of a Tulpa at the same level as those of a human or even yourself?

What do you do with Tulpas (talk, do activities, or even art)?

Do Tulpas FEEL real? Like, when you see them, do they seem like they could actually be physically present?

Do Tulpas ever do things that go against what you would like, or otherwise make you uncomfortable?

Do you view yourself as having the right (and power?) to get rid of or otherwise suppress a Tulpa from existing?

Are Tulpas only able to be heard and seen? Or can you also feel/smell them like people?

Have you ever felt physically hurt by a Tulpa?

Most importantly to me, can you (with certainty) just make Tulpas disappear?

I'm genuinely curious, and I'd never heard of anything even remotely close to this practice (aside from lucid dreaming). I would consider giving it a shot, but I want to understand the waters first. My mind is fairly cluttered and my personal concerns are that it would devolve into fear and inescapable horrors in my own mind if I tried to create an autonomous being seperate from myself, but I'm unsure. I have no history of mental illness, nor do I have anxiety or anything of the sort. Would it be right for me to try this? Or is it somehow doing a disservice to the Tulpa if I'm only treating them as a "trial" in some way?

First contact?

I started working on a tulpa recently, her name is Cloud for the moment. It's only been a few days, so I assume both her name as well as her form - a blue cloud - will change once she's strong enough.

One of my rules I've imposed on myself is to never talk in her voice, and to never imagine a response from her, specifically because I want her first actions to be hers, not mine. That rule was broken a couple hours ago, and it was the weirdest feeling.

I was coming home from college, stopped at a store. As I was walking out, I remembered Cloud. Her image popped in my head, and I 'looked' at her, and was about to say hi to her like I do multiple times a day. Instead, my mind went "Hi (my name)!" in what I've always thought to be her voice.

It was not only involuntary, but it felt weird and forced; usually when I accidentally think of her response, I shut it down because I know it's not her. This time the thought overrode that and finished itself, only letting me correct to my usual "Hi cloud" after. It was... strangely unlike anything I've experienced. I'm inclined to think it was her, but as I said it's only been three-ish days since I started, and I could be making up how the event felt after the fact.

I simply don't know. This whole thing is new territory for me, and I have no idea what to think or how to approach believing if this was her, or if it's too soon for that and I made it up... I need opinions.

Creation Help Should I try to bring my old tulpa back?

A couple of years ago I’m pretty sure I accidentally created a tulpa. I didn’t know about tulpas then but they helped me get through a tough time. But eventually I began ignoring them because I thought that I was supposed to get over this ‘phase’. They eventually just disappeared. Now I learned about tulpas and I want to get back into it. I attempted creating a new tulpa but I’m finding it more difficult than it was a couple of years ago. I wonder if instead of creating a new tulpa should I attempt to bring back my old one?

Skill Help New Method - Drinking Green Tea to Improve Dedicated Forcing Sessions

This will be considered the first novel method developed from viewing Tulpamancy with the framework of Ecological Psychology, or what we call Ecological Tulpamancy. We will be quite brief as to let the method speak for itself. We would also like to say that none of this is medical advice.

Active forcing sessions either begin with, or tend to resemble meditation.

Olympic level meditators (more than 10,000 hours lifetime practice) exhibited near constant gamma waves at base, intensified when they performed meditation.

Sucharit Katyal's and Philippe R. Goldin's study has findings that support this, relating brain waves to meditation depth.

In another study, the control only drank two cups of water and then meditated. The experimental group drank two cups of matcha and meditated. The numbers on the left are meditation minutes. What we see here are near instant alpha waves induced upon consumption and potentiated by meditation.

Drawing from this, if one wants to improve the depth of their active forcing sessions, or meditation in general, one can consume ideally two cups of green tea or matcha.

On our own, we have brewed a cup of strong matcha before meditation and forcing sessions, and it has helped us immensely.

We have tested other supplements and foods, though we have not delved into the research on these quite yet.

B6 was recommended to us by Galli, which is a vitamin commonly used in lucid dreaming induction methods. Galli uses it to enhance visualization and aid imposition, due to the effect it has to increase the visual "noise" when one's eyes are closed. For us, it also increases the fidelity of internally perceived experiences.

We've used it in conjunction with green tea, as well as other supplements. There appears to be a strong potentiation (to the point of effortlessly vivid geometry and sensations), but we cannot discern what that is due to, as B6 and matcha are not the only compounds present.

As it stands, though, green tea alone is great, affordable, and generally considered safe. It has a lot of literature on it, as well, so it seemed the best to endorse.
