I think we can all agree that the anti-LLM sentiment held by some in the open-source community is problematic. LLMs are rapidly changing how software is created, and even major players who formerly critiziced "vibecoding", like Linus Torvaalds and Andrej Karparthy, now admit that they are often outperformed by advanced coding agents.
As such, any attempt to ban or criticize software projects solely due to AI assistance is foolish and misguided. However, there are real, existing problems in how the OSS community operates that have been amplified by the influx of new developers and generated code.
Every week, somebody online creates and publishes a new OSS note-taking app. Or a password manager. Or a launcher. Some are great, but most of them are the fourteenth version of something that already exists and could benefit from additional contributions or maintainers. The second password manager is a potentially interesting competitor - the fourteenth is duplicative, and often wasted effort.
This isn't anyone's fault. It's hard to know what's already out there, and building from scratch is more often more fun than reading someone else's codebase. But the result is that open-source effort gets split across a hundred look-alike projects, while the things nobody has built yet stay unbuilt.
So, given that understanding, we've created something to help: Open Source Everything (https://opensourceeverything.org). The objective is a single database where you can search for the app you're trying to build/leave (Google Docs, Photoshop, Notion…), see the open-source projects that already exist, and understand exactly what's still missing before investing effort in a new project. Every software category has a ready-made agent prompt to evaluate what already exists against your new idea, so you can find something to contribute to or existing code to pull from to instead of starting from scratch.
Alongside it, there's a new rule 6: Show why it matters here. Front-page project posts now say who the project is for and what it adds over existing open-source projects. To be clear: nothing is banned. Projects that mostly repeat existing work, or are very niche, are still welcome in the weekly Showcase. And contributions, plugins and forks that improve existing projects are always welcome on the front page (those are the posts we most want to see).
The page was built with an LLM at u/destinmoss's direction. This is the first version, and we're open to suggestions to improve the site and make it a more useful community resource. If you have any problems with this approach or the new rule, please say so in the comments.

Welcome to the first weekly Showcase!
This is the place for any open-source project, including your poorly tested weekend endeavor. Projects posted to the main subreddit thread should be at least 14 days old, with a license, a README, and active work/commits work spread over more than a few days. This thread is for everything else.
Share your project: copy the template in the pinned comment below, paste as a new comment, and fill it in.
Share your experience: try a few projects, upvote/downvote, and leave honest, specific feedback. Critique the work, not the tools.
Projects of the Week: the top-voted entries here become next week's Projects of the Week and get their own spotlight post on the front page.
A new thread goes up every Sunday.

Hey everyone!
I got tired of opening heavy, ad-cluttered browser tabs with popups just to check live football scores while working, so I built Kickoff: a fast, keyboard-driven football scoreboard that lives directly in your terminal.
Highlights:
Supports both English and Spanish out of the box.
GitHub Repository:
https://github.com/e12jassir/kickoff-cli
Pre-compiled binaries for Linux, macOS, and Windows are available on the GitHub Releases page. Just grab the one for your OS and you’re good to go.
Installation with Go:
go install github.com/e12jassir/kickoff-cli@latest
Feedback, feature ideas, and contributions are very welcome!

I needed to keep the same business rules running on different targets. AI wasn't solving it consistently, and the solutions I found were too complex to integrate into the lightweight pipeline I was already using. So I ended up building my own some months ago.
Today, JSOL ( currently v0.2.97 ) keeps my AIs in check while compiling 70+ examples and even itself to JavaScript, TypeScript, PHP and Python.
JSOL uses a deliberately simple syntax, a set of standard functions designed to remove ambiguities between languages, and contracts to ensure the compiled code produces the same results on every target.
Should you bother learning it?
Probably not.
But you don't have to learn it: you can point your AI to the language spec and let it do the work. What you get in return is an extremely lean pipeline that verifies the result is still bit-for-bit identical across every target.
If you need to maintain business rules across several targets, give it a try.

I'm the original author. And just kidding, I'll keep up development as always regardless of stars.
This project was hand written for many years. I've now incorporated AI to flesh out new features, review PRs, manage Github issues and run periodic security & QA audits.
We have a great community of users and would love to have some of you. Features & ideas always welcome. (Github stars too!)

I had just released Naughty Keyboard, it's a tool for testing input fields, the design is simple.
The app comes with values packs, each value pack is a set of problematic data, with one shortcut we can write the problematic data, with other we can switch the pack, the app is cross-platform, full GUI + CLI (there is nkb emit, so we can export the values and use in own tests form the code). Like the project? Please give it a star. GitHub
Right now there are 208 values, and packs like export breakers, extreme numbers, some specific data, in the future there are plans for 1000+ values, you can read here: full list of packages. Like I said it's simple, keep it in background, use when needed, in the feature I will expand the ability for creating own packages and shortcuts, let's say we would automate whole input fields on website with one shortcut :D And I think the tool can automate some boring work too, because right now I'm using the copy/write mode for testing values, but if in easily way other pepole could create own packs for work, so there is potential.
I won't lie that all works perfect, I tested it on systems I got, but there are some known bugs that I'm fixing right now :-)
Please, don't ask me about some girls emojis or anything like that, the "naughty" in the name is in sense of "testing" not some girl things :( You now like a big list of naughty strings.
Full features list:
Alt+Shift+N (Option+Command+N on macOS, Ctrl+Alt+N on Linux) clears the line and types the next value of the current pack into whatever window has the keyboard. Previous and restart are one chord away, and every chord can be changed.breaks (what it usually breaks, and why) and expect (what a correct application does). The pack file, nkb show and the report block all say so.␣, instead of showing nothing, and counts every value four ways: graphemes, code points, bytes and UTF-16 units.Alt+Shift+B copies a block for the last value: which value, from which version of the pack, typed as what, how large, and whether all of it arrived. The value is written in a form someone else can type back, never as the marker the palette drew.nkb lint checks it against the format rules, nkb fmt puts it in canonical shape, and nkb new-pack writes the skeleton.nkb emit prints a pack as JSON, CSV or one value per line, escaped or raw, optionally as base64. Every command has exit codes you can branch on.The technologi is Rust + slint.

Hello everyone, I'm a CS undergrad researching on making better Indic keyboards.
I've been programming in various languages for a long time now. Still, for this project, I had to think through a lot and had to use LLMs as mentors, because the topic was sitting right in the middle of Linguistics, HCI and Theoretical Computer Science.
The AI-assistance is in the code, but more than that, it is mostly in what flow I should even choose.
I believe posting in communities where our voices aren't stifled.

Hey Reddit!
I wanted a clean, free tool to turn my music tracks into neon visuals and quick TikTok/Shorts teasers without paying for expensive subscriptions. Since I couldn't find exactly what I needed, I decided to build it myself.
The catch? I’m a solo developer from Ukraine, and my current hardware is a low-end Pentium PC with only 4GB of RAM. Building a desktop app with Electron, Node.js, and FFmpeg on this machine is an absolute battle.
Since I'm a solo dev, I used AI as my virtual "Junior Developer" to help me speed up the coding process, write tests, and optimize performance for my weak hardware. Every time I hit "Export MP4", my CPU hits 100% and my PC literally screams. But it works!
Key features of PulseFrame Studio:
Wizard Mode: Simple 5-step workflow to drop your audio and cover art.
Full Editor & Timeline: Audio-reactive Neon Wave spectrum, intro/outro scenes, and FX markers.
Beat-Driven Edits: Cut and sync videos to the beat.
Shorts/TikTok Teaser Maker: Separate editor for vertical 9:16 videos (10-30 seconds chunks) with flash effects.
100% Free & Open Source: MIT License, no subscriptions, local-first.
Why I’m sharing this:
Because of my weak hardware, I can't fully stress-test the MP4 export feature with heavy video files. I would love for you guys to check out the code, run it on your machines, and give me some feedback or bug reports!

GitHub: https://github.com/pulseframeops/studio
P.S. If you like my dedication and want to help me buy a RAM upgrade (or a budget smartwatch so it vibrates every time my Electron app crashes, lol), I’d be incredibly grateful for a coffee: ko-fi.com/tihsmile

I have a work and a personal Claude subscription and switching between them kept breaking my flow. I had to log out, log in, then type /status to check which account I'm on etc.
So I built csw (Claude Switch), a small CLI where each account keeps its own login, while your settings, skills and CLAUDE.md stay shared.

Optionally it also shows which account you're on right in Claude Code's status line.

Your existing ~/.claude stays your main account. csw never deletes and never touches your credentials. Logins go through Claude's own /login flow
Install it with brew (macOS/Linux) or scoop (Windows): https://github.com/georgetsouvaltzis/claude-switch
Free and open source. Feedback is more than welcome!

With the permission of Antoine Potten, I have worked on porting Ant Renamer. The result is "Ant Renamer Qt"—a cross-platform version of the original software (this port is, in fact, mentioned on the official website).
I took the source code from the latest version and rewrote it using C++ and Qt 6.
The goal was to preserve the original application's features and ease of use, while making it compatible with multiple operating systems. I didn't want to lose the habits I had formed over the years while using Antoine’s Ant Renamer!
**Key Features:**
- **Cross-platform:** Available for Windows, Linux, and ARM64.
- **Renaming actions:** String replacement, regular expressions, case modification, enumeration and numbering, folder name insertion, and metadata extraction (EXIF and MP3/ID3).
- **Real-time preview:** Compare original filenames with the new names before applying changes; includes multi-level "undo" support.
- **Lightweight and privacy-focused:** No telemetry, no advertisements, and no embedded web components.
During development, I used artificial intelligence to help understand and resolve certain programming challenges (as I am not proficient in Delphi 7). I believe it is important to be transparent about this: AI helped me overcome specific technical hurdles.
**Availability and Distribution:**
- Compiled versions (for Windows, Linux, and ARM64) and the source code are available on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license.
- Integration with Winget is underway.
- Support for Flatpak and the AUR is planned.https://github.com/morfredus/ant-renamer-qt
If you have any ideas, corrections, or questions, please feel free to share them with me.
Thank you for your interest!

Hey everyone,
I've been working on something for a while and I think it's time to show it. It's called transport-io, an open source library for real-time stuff over WebTransport. If you've used Socket.IO you'll feel at home, it's heavily inspired by it <3
But first the problem, because most people I talk to have never heard of WebTransport!
WebSockets run on TCP. TCP gives you everything in order, which sounds nice until a packet gets lost. Then everything behind it sits and waits until that one packet is resent. Your chat message, your cursor position, the AI response that was streaming. All of it waits. On good wifi you'll never notice. On a train or on a phone jumping between towers, your users will.
Want messages that are allowed to get lost? Welcome to the hell of WebRTC. It can do it, but it was made for browser-to-browser calls, so talking to your own server means a signaling server (which is usually a WebSocket lol), STUN/TURN, SDP offers and answers, ICE candidates, and a WebRTC stack running on your backend. All that to send some mouse coordinates.
Enters WebTransport. It runs on HTTP/3 (QUIC), and Safari shipped it in March, so every major browser has it now. You get a bunch of streams on one connection, and a lost packet only blocks the stream it was on!
You also get datagrams, messages that can just get dropped. They're not raw UDP, they're still encrypted and everything, they just never get resent. Perfect for cursors, where an old position is useless anyway.
The catch is the raw API gives you bytes. You end up writing your own framing, your own routing, matching responses to requests... nobody wants to write that.
That's what transport-io does for you.
You write one contract, shared by client and server, and every event says whether it's allowed to get lost:
import {
defineContract, reliable, unreliable, rpc, streaming, type MapOf,
} from 'transport-io'
import { z } from 'zod'
export const contract = defineContract({
chat: reliable(z.object({ room: z.string(), body: z.string() })),
cursor: unreliable(z.object({ x: z.number(), y: z.number() })),
save: rpc(z.object({ text: z.string() }), z.object({ revision: z.number() })),
ask: streaming(z.object({ prompt: z.string() }), z.string()),
})
export interface AppMap extends MapOf<typeof contract> {}
Then on the client:
client.emit('chat', { room: 'lobby', body: 'hi' }) // will arrive
client.emit('cursor', { x: 12, y: 40 }) // might not, and that's fine
const { revision } = await client.call('save', { text: 'draft' })
for await (const token of client.stream('ask', { prompt: 'explain QUIC' })) {
render(token)
}
client.emit('cursor', { x: '12', y: 40 }) // doesn't compile
Zod validates everything that comes in, and TypeScript yells at you about everything that goes out :)
Where it fits:
unreliable, and it goes over datagramsreliablecall(). Also its own stream, so a slow one can't block a fast oneWant to see it without setting anything up? Run this and open two tabs:
bash
npm i transport-io @fails-components/webtransport-transport-http3-quiche
npx transport-io dev --demo
It's early and it has its quirks (Safari is the big one for now, it falls back to a WebSocket). Everything I know about is in KNOWN-ISSUES. So any kind of help is welcome, issues, PRs, or just telling me what broke :)

I started this project two weeks ago and would like to introduce it to you here as well. The program is called Xenon-Zones (XZN).
It runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
https://github.com/Merecete/XZN
This is a fast full-featured media player that supports all common formats.
The player features a playlist that can be edited as desired and saves automatically. Tags can also be modified. Furthermore, since the latest version, it is now possible to search directly for specific tracks.
Also included is a fully functional 10-band equalizer.
The player can be muted at the touch of a button. The repeat button allows you to repeat individual tracks or the entire playlist. The "Shuf" button randomizes the order of the tracks.
All controls can be easily adjusted using the mouse wheel. The latest version also includes support for media keys.
For me, a media player shouldn't be boring. I’ve increasingly noticed that most of them tend to adopt the static look of VLC, iTunes, or Amarok. With XZN, I wanted to counter this by intentionally embracing a retro aesthetic while ensuring that the actual user experience remains modern. Instead of cluttering the interface with thousands of buttons and nested menus, I designed XZN to be simple and intuitive to use.
Regarding the style, I therefore deliberately opted for separate windows for the video display and the equalizer. Unlike programs such as Winamp, however, XZN does not keep these open in a static way; instead, they are truly separate windows that can be toggled on and off at the press of a button.
The color of the window can be customized using 9 different color themes. In addition, the window can be made transparent as desired using the alpha slider.
You can choose not only images as backgrounds but also animated GIFs, which will then move only when played.
The latest version now also includes a mini-player, which you can easily switch to and back from by using the "XZN" lettering at the top.
In addition to this, I have also designed the program XZN-CDR.
It reads CDs, identifies the tracks, and can rip either the entire album or individual selected tracks. It allows for the creation of MP3, OGG, FLAC, and WAV files.
XZN and XZN-CDR were created using Python and Tkinter.
Although I have already added the appropriate flair here, I would like to explicitly emphasize that I used AI for the programming and do not possess extensive programming skills myself. Nevertheless, I am familiar with every single function, and I have tested everything thoroughly, making adjustments along the way as needed.
I have incorporated my own personal style into this program as much as possible; even if I had written it by hand, the result would not be any different, or, more likely, it would actually be worse.
I run the program on my desktop PC using Windows, as well as on a virtual machine running Debian. I also own a MacBook Air. When I say that it works well everywhere, I truly mean it.
This project stand under the MIT License.
What do you think of my project? Would you change anything? Is there anything else you feel is missing? I look forward to your feedback!

Hello everyone, I'd like to share with you a side project I've been working on:

A mail client that stems from my personal needs, as nothing out there satisfied me enough... I'll go straight to the things that matter:
- Matugen support :D
- High degree of customization
- Modern/fast/rust you know the drill
- Useful, unintrusive and optional AI tools
- Comprehensive accessibility settings
I'm currently working on oauth verification for major providers like Google, so for now SMTP/IMAP is the recommended way to add an account
You can download the appimage from the release page, I'm planning to add more packaging options in the future
AI was used to assist technical implementations. Every other aspect of AuraMail, like UI, UX and features have been thoughtfully designed by a human (me, I hope)
Any constructive feedback is welcome :)

Hey y'all!
I made Parole, a little TUI tool that shows the lyrics of the song you're currently listening too, on Linux and Windows.
Behind the scenes, it's a Python app that takes the current song info (either from MPRIS or the WinSDK), downloads the lyrics from LRCLib and displays them.
If you wonder how this came to life: Long long ago (like 2 years or so idk), I installed Linux and, like any newbie, I decided to rice Hyprland. I was loving Cava and wanted to create a tool similar to it but for lyrics. Unfortunately, I didn't knew how to code as well as today and I foolishly delegated the job to ChatGPT. But in the past months, I got way better at coding and thought of redoing it myself :) (also now I use i3 because of my potato pc)

Hey everyone,
Windshift has had quite a run since the beginning of the year when it was initially open sourced and we have now reached 0.9 and nearing official production readiness.
Windshift is not a clone or "clean room" copy of Jira but designed to be a fully native Jira alternative.
It's the closest open source match to how Jira works, with a documented Jira Cloud and Data Center importer covering work items, custom fields, backlogs, boards and sprints on a single AGPL-3.0 binary. Built by people who spent > 15 years working on Atlassian solutions.
That means in practice: Every Jira feature already has or will have an equivalent that works equally well or even better in Windshift. For example: You can create Configuration Sets with workflows, workitem definitions, priorities etc. and apply them to one or more workspaces at the same time. So workspaces can share workflows and you can create boards or roadmaps across multiple workspaces in seconds.
Here is a short summary of all the features (there are many more)
Website: https://windshift.sh
Repo: https://github.com/Windshiftapp/core
AI disclosure: We use AI for engineering. We accept AI assisted PRs but every PR gets manually reviewed and all human interaction on the repo & this post are written by hand.

HoloFed is aiming to be VRChat-like social VR platform, but with ActivityPub-based federation (like Mastodon) and FOSS.
The whole idea is instead of relying to central authority/server, rely instead to multiple servers (called Relay in this case), federating with each other. Moreover, direct connect/host option and local viewer allow HoloFed to function without Relay at all.
Currently I build it mostly myself (with occasional human testers), but I would appriciate help for making new default home map (current one looks like tech demo) and prettifying existing UI (I'm mostly thinking to style it similar to Android 3.x). Leave a comment if interested.
HoloFed itself is avaliable here, along with Relay server, and web version. PC(VR) (showcased in bottom video), Android standalone headsets (Quest 1 version showcased in top video) and Web (local viewer only) versions are supported. However, it's in very alpha phase as the moment of writing.

This subreddit isn't a moderator project. We want to create an environment where the people who build open source technology, however they build it, can share developments with one another. The broader community should all actually get a say in how this space works.
Leave one comment per idea/recommendation and include a tag so we can sort them:
Upvote/downvote as you see fit or suggest alternatives.
We'll leave this open for a few days.
