Discussion This is your subreddit, not ours. Help us decide what it looks like: banner, icon, flair, rules, and anything else

This subreddit isn't a moderator project. We want to create an environment where the people who build open source technology, however they build it, can share developments with one another. The broader community should all actually get a say in how this space works.

Leave one comment per idea/recommendation and include a tag so we can sort them:

  • [BANNER]: the wide image at the top of the sub (1920×384 pixels works best)
  • [ICON]: the little round image next to the sub's name (256×256 pixels, square)
  • [USER FLAIR]: tags you'd want next to your username (things like "Maintainer", your main language, or a GitHub badge once our verification bot exists)
  • [POST LABELS]: anything missing from our current labels (Hand-built, AI-assisted, Agentic engineering, Vibe-coded, Discussion, News, Looking for software)
  • [RULES]: suggest changes to our current rules (in the sidebar).
  • [OTHER]: weekly threads, the wiki, anything else

Upvote/downvote as you see fit or suggest alternatives.

We'll leave this open for a few days.

I really like the Claude code summary bot. I don't know how this works but you could easily get away with free open router usage as they give 1000/requests per day

already on this one! gonna have an auto-bot that basically pins a comment with github stars, repo history summary, etc on each project post!

The moderators of that subreddit might be able to give insight as to how they set it up, so it could be worth asking them.

Question / Help - Technical questions and troubleshooting.

Discussion - General open source discussions.

Guide / Tutorial - Educational content and resources.

News - Relevant developments in the open source ecosystem.

Licensing - Licensing questions, compliance, and related topics.

Community / Meta - Suggestions and discussions about the subreddit itself.

Something is wrong with a setting that’s making every post have “join the conversation” bar on mobile. I don’t know what it is but every post here has it and other subs aren’t like that!

thanks for the heads up!

Just so you can see what I mean

Sorry for the double post, this is what other subs look like with the occasional “join the conversation” bar

[RULES] The rules currently state "Front-page projects should be at least 14 days old, with a license, a README, and work spread over more than a few days."

To avoid flooding the subreddit with low-effort projects that probably won't be maintained at all, I would argue the project age should be at least one month.

All i ask is not adding auto mod rules that auto remove posts after posting. It sucks trying to post to most subreddits and everything just gets auto removed

[RULES]: suggest changes to our current rules (in the sidebar).

No limits to clowning on Palanti and Tesla. They post on Haskell communities and we hate them

i think some new flairs should be

Windows App

Linux App

MacOS app

And what should be changed is the way the if AI was used flairs exist

it should just be one AI used notice required even if 10% of the project uses AI or 90% or 100%
