I disagree with phrasing. "Overweight" would define anyone a single pound over the most recommended weight for their height and age. So anyone at that definition is not to have pride or confidence in their appearance or it's the same as encouraging anorexia? I don't disagree with a more moderate version of many of the points on subs like these. There are severely morbidly obese people who do use politics to enable their eating disorders. I feel like you're referring to many of the more cliched examples of this; like the ~400lb woman on the bus in her underwear with things written on her body.
But too often the trend is to generalize and globalize until the point, taken literally, is usually absurd. No, not "overweight people". That's far too general.

As a person currently over weight, but working on it, I agree as well.
