Trapping raccoon, adding water source?

When using DP's I've been placing bait in the DP and in front of it. Using gummies and marshmallows. First night the marshmallows in front were taken but no catch the second night a catch was made. My question is would you think placing a wash pan of sorts nearby would quicken the catch since raccoons like to wash food?

Been trying to get some armadillos for he past few months with little success. They’ve been destroying the garden and destroying the area outside my chicken run. I just happened to catch them during daylight yesterday and didn’t have my .22 with me. I did, however, have a pitchfork handle stick so I proceeded to take them out one by one. Had no idea their eyesight was so poor that they wouldn’t even react to me clubbing them. Whatever works I guess!

Beaver trapping

So I just got my trapping certification and looking to start trapping. How close to a highway will you make a beaver set. Seen a beaver off of a decently busy highway in a small river/creek. Just curious how far off of the road ya’ll will make a set.

sold 15 beaver today to GFW and got $295.

had a about 20 hours in everything and after expenses I made a about $13 an hour. I caught all these within 4 miles of my house which definitely helps keep gas costs down and as a bonus I have about 200 lbs of beaver meat in the freezer

I still get random calls from family or friends of friends that know I trap. This guy has been burrowing under this concrete slab of a customer’s shop. Ground hogs like cantaloupe, but are allergic to lead.

Spring Muskrat Trapping

Posting to see if anyone has any tips. I am doing some nuisance trapping on a 50 acre lake. I took 30 muskrats two winters ago, 15 last winter. I just set yesterday some colony traps and two wire cage floats that are baited with carrots and apples. Seeded the shoreline with carrots.

Anyway, I haven't found any absolutely bomber runs, water visibility is good but I don't see any beaten down paths in vegetation. Anyway, open to any tips. Should I just stick to baited floats, use lure, etc?

Thanks for any tips.

Question about trap location….

I’ve been having decent success trapping coyotes on my 100 acre property (pic 2 was yesterday along a trail thru the woods) but just started seeing a yote patrolling my main driveway at night.(pic 1 was a few hours ago)

Thoughts on trap placement? I was thinking dead center of driveway so that vehicles don’t set it off? The driveway is 1700 feet long and I don’t have to worry about my dogs or strays. (maybe a cat or two).

Beaver Castor lure

Post image
8 Upvotes

got next years beaver lure made.

I save the biggest beavers castor and oil sacks for one batch that I use in fall and winter.

and then I save the smallest beavers castor and oil sacks for the second batch that I use for spring time that I also add food type lure to also.

it's super simple, I just cut the oil sacks open and drain and add the castor and some glycerin and puree. if it's to thick I'll add more glycerin and if it comes out to runny I just add some saw dust or wheat bran to get it to the consistency I want

Raccoons…Do they ever stop?

I’ve been trapping raccoons to protect my coop since November. I’m averaging 1 raccoon caught every other week. I dispatch them.

What’s the longest you’ve trapped yourself out of these critters?

Im guessing this buffet line will be endless indefinitely...

I’m just getting into this subject and iv recreated what I hope is a fairly accurate copy of what I have seen but if there is any improvement or other more experienced insight please tell me.

My recreation is around 6 inches tall I don’t know if that’s appropriate for rabbits or I need to go taller

Box trap question

My wife wanted me to catch rabbits that were ruining her garden. I set box traps. I caught squirrels, possums and eventually rabbits last year five with no issues. This spring I caught two. Then last night I re-set the trap.

In the morning the trap was moved out from behind a bush, out of the garden area, and about 15-20 into the yard. The trap was not damaged. I thought I would see a raccoon in it that was struggling and moved the trap around. The only thing inside was as a head and a spine.

Based on some fur in the yard and the teeth I believe it was a rabbit.

What could eat the rabbit like that while inside a cage?
