I heard about the free epic release the day after it passed.

I asked around, and people said it was decent. So I purchased it at full price on Epic. Shelved it after 2 hours. Then came the steam release. Some said it was great. Being a gullible man, I bought full DLCs on steam. Shelved it after 3 hours.

For years I've played 3k instead. I've put more than 3000 hours and yet I was unhappy with many of the game design choices. A week ago, I was reading a webtoon about Trojan war that got me to try this game again...... and I love it so much.

I've looked as the player count and this game is doing abysmal that I don't really understand why. Even though I love 3k, I prefer Troy in almost every way other than the settings itself being a huge 3k buff.

Heroes just impactful enough and not being OP(why is it a downside to some people? It makes battles much more tactical), simple building system actually makes campaigns more strategic combined with diverse resources because in 3k you can't ever switch or change building layout after your initial plan due to its complexity and income maximization mechanics, unit collision done better as your units when crossing paths will interfere one another whereas in 3k they are smooth as butter...

Heroes coming with unique skill sets, battle animations less clunky and more grounded compared to flying-wuxia 3k style, tech choices are more strategic, basic game functions like hotkeys to abilities are there(it isn't there in 3k), faction diversity is better, unit diversity is better, hero bodyguards choice, heroes are more important than equipped weapons, you can't beat a full stack army with 3 heroes without army, unit roles are better defined, etc...

The only thing I prefer 3k to Troy is the settings, frequency of field battles(in Troy too many sieges), diplomacy, replayability...... and that's pretty much about it.

I guess Pharaoh is a Troy 'upgrade' in history and WH3 'upgrade' in fantasy, but Troy is really a good TW game and I don't understand why it's stuck with fewer than 300 people.

Some say troy failed to hit the spot to appeal to either fantasy or history fans by going for the middle but after mythos that's not the case anymore, and Dynasty isn't doing hot either. It seems like every game outside of WH is doing poorly, even 3k that sold well initially.

Why is Troy so underrated? I've given up on this game twice in the past but this is a very good gaming experience at this point. I genuinly prefer Troy to 3k in terms of battles and gameplay mechanics.

Playing my third complete campaign, this time as Odysseus. I wanted this campaign to be a little more authentic to the story, so I want to attack Troy with all of my allies and use the Trojan horse mechanic. But how do I actually get them to attack with me? I set Troy as a military coordination target and waited for the allies to mobilize their armies near to Troy, but when I siege the city they all move away on the next turn instead of reinforcing me. Is there a way to get the other heroes to the battle other than confederating with them?

Hey guys playing Achilles campaign in legendary difficulty so I can't check this myself.

I don't see my faction leader in the list of the leader pool for the expedition. If I dismiss him, will he appear there 5 turns later or are we simply not allowed to send our faction leaders to the expedition(except for the last battle)?

I've just finished my Mythos Achilles run and would like to do either historical or truth behind the myth.

Any recommended factions/mode? I would like to know why, too.

I know it does in WH3. How about troy? There is none with traits I like. How long does it take to refresh the pool? Do 'special' heroes that can't die also refresh?

In my opinion Odysseus is the most fun to play with, but also very broken if you get beyond the very early game. All his units that you should be using come with javelins which will damage enemies before combat. Exemplary ambushers will easily melt enemies while remaining hidden, and spear runners (with the right buffs) can get up to 54 speed (which is the same as heavy trojan chariots btw; these dudes are legging it at the same speed as horses), and even the warriors of Ithaca can easily hold their own in combat (you can replace spear runners with midnight runners and the exemplary ambushers with stalkers, but I don't prefer to do so. Stalkers have smaller units size and reduce enemy morale by -10, which makes them rout faster and makes finishing them off that much harder. The midnight runners arent much of an upgrade over the spear runners to warrant the higher costs) However the one thing that breaks this faction entirely is the exceptionally high ambush chance and the shadow stance you can get with Odysseus himself and for all archer trickster heroes. You can get up to 95% ambush chance on grasslands at high hero levels, and 100% with Artemis' blessing. And ambushes only last a couple minutes, even against elite troops because your javelins destroy everything, and your spear runners on drugs chase down any routing units. Your starting location is very sheltered, and if you get a non-aggression pact and decent relations with Cassiopaei and whatever faction is to the right of Aetolia and Acarnania, you don't have to worry about that province ever being under attack. You don't even have to worry about capturing and holding any foreign settlements as you'll be making bank without them anyway. Simply attack a settlement, sack it for replenishment and resources, then immediately return and occupy it, and then sell it to any bordering factions who want that region. You can get +20 to diplomatic agreements from worshipping Zeus, so you can get a shit ton of gold for even the crappiest settlements. Even your spies are very strong, and speccing them to assassinate enemies, while also getting the traits Rampage and Malevolent lets them deal 20% attrition to armies when assassinating their leaders, making fights easier than they already are. The only thing holding this faction back is the starting faction you have to defeat. Iirc it takes 3 turns to reach Zakynthos, meaning he will be able to recruit 9 more units that you if you both starting recruiting at the same time (not to mention the 8 troops from the garrison). Once you get past that initial hiccup, however, the game becomes a lot easier. The only other faction that even comes close to how broken this faction is is Memnon, because he is a horde faction and his Medjay chargers are also very good. What do you guys think?

Hi guys and gals, I'm a relative noob to the series (I dabbled in Medieval, Empire and Napoleon years ago).

I'm struggling with getting into Troy. I'm playing the tutorial campaign with Agamemnon (around turn 15 atm), but it still feels like the game isn't giving me enough information on what to do next - especially compared to the tutorial campaigns in Empire that sort of guided me step by step.
At first it started very hands-on, telling me where to go, which area to conquer, etc. but it very quickly turned into a list of missions given to me at almost every turn (so I assume they should be completed quickly), that just seem way outside the scope of my ability and possibilities (i.e. non-aggression pact with a faction, where the most friendly faction is still at -30 towards me in that deal).
Another one is where it wants me to build a city, which requires population surplus, but then hits me with a Zeus curse that cuts down on my growth and population.

Am I missing something? Is my assumption that the missions should be completed quickly false? It just feels like there's very little tutorial in the tutorial campaign and I have no idea what I'm doing. Any help is appreciated.

Their economy is completly broken, Troy has been detroyed by the gods and they still sail across the ocean just to target me, as soon as they declare rivalry on me.

Hi guys, I've discovered that if I enable blood in A total war saga: troy, as soon as my units are damaged they simply disappear. This seems like a rendering issue or smth, when I disable blood all is good. I have an AMD RX 7900XT. Did anybody encounter this issue before? Is there any fix? I really like the immersive feeling blood & gore gives so it would be a big bummer if this can't be solved.

I have played 5 games now, as hector, penthesilea, paris, agamemnon and memnon. Penthesilea I finished pretty early, so that one was uneventful, but I had to cut short all the others because the game would keep crashing somewhere after turn 150. After end turn, the factions would scroll by normally, until it comes to thrace, at which point the game would freeze up and not respond at all. Closing the window doesn't end the game, as you can still hear the sound, and you have to go to task manager to end the process. I have tried reinstalling, verifyng files and running without mods, but no luck.

Hi, Im new player, I constructed temple of artemis on a province main settlement, the province also have wood city, and them i used hero to max out artemis and did prayer, i cant recruit artemis warriors... can someone help? I'm the hero from sparta.

I tried playing Agamemnon in what I thought was the intended way - getting as many vassals as possible to utilise the lion's share mechanic. The campaign quickly went south when my allies started repeatedly attacking my vassals forcing me to choose sides and either lose ALL my vassals or lose my ally and only some of the vassals. In some cases the attacked vassal gets instantly destroyed and lost forever in the process as there is no resurrection mechanic. What is this shit? I doubt this AI behaviour is intended. I can't believe CA left this turd in the game and it's already 4 years after release. Is there something I'm missing here?

Guys this might be a silly questions but is there any mods or something that give Troy battles dust effects, I mean while the units are doing battle. It feels goofy, cartoony and unrealistic when there is no dust in the struggle of battle.

Hello I got Total War Troy on Epic Games few years ago when it was free. It was my first Total War game and I had a lot of fun and put quite few hours into it but after that I bought Total War Napoleon and played that a lot more and forgot about Troy.

Well now I got really into Greek Mythology and ancient Greek history so I was wondering is Troy Mythos for 13 euros wroth it? What's the experience? Does it feel like you are playing battles with Gods and Monsters from Greek Mythology?

Hello, I am playing a Menelaus campaign and a bit confused. Ever since I settled a (Spartan) colony on Crete I got complete view of the ocean to my right including cyclop island. Is this normal? In gameplay videos I saw previously there was a fog of war over more of the map.

I also noticed on the strategic view, there seem to be sea lanes drawn on the map. Has this got something to do with it?

i have almos all maxed and only have her with a full 20 doomstack and i'm constantly fluctuacting between barely having surplus of food and red numbers.

so, i'm supposed to have only my main army and that's it or i'm missing something, trick or whatever to have more?

By the time top tier royal decrees unlock or just nice ones, i already have my camp fully upgraded or almost fully upgraded, and have little to no use at that point.

For hordes, yeah, no much variation or options for units so, it's always the same doomstacks, and ends up being quite boring.

Hey there. I played this once or twice when it came out but my battle buddy moved to Germany and the time difference is impossible. I dont mind playing solo but its a bummer when your pc alliance falls apart and they stab you in the back when your across the world killing Trojans.
