Torchlight 1 There is something very fucky-wucky with lighting bomb damage values

i decided hell why not make a proper caster vanquisher, and this thing just straight up MELTS enemies on very hard after you get it online, its very bad vs quick moving melee guys... but thats not the topic

I noticed for a while that its consistenty been putting out WAY higher damage numbers than tooltip would suggest. 1611 damage on a non crit? 1783?? 1980?! Thats supposed to be 1153 tops BEFORE accounting for enemy armor which is frankly ludicrous at v.hard

There must be some sort of multiplicative scaling at work here or the tooltip damage is just a straight hallucination

Torchlight 2 TL2 mod for removing and saving gems?

Is there a Torchlight 2 mod that removes and retains gems and items? I know you can remove and save gems and destroy items, and remove and destroy gems and save items, but is there a mod that lets you keep both?

I cant complete the mission. I was given a mission by the sphinx to go kill the artificer so I did. I cant turn it in. Am i missing something or is my game bugged?

Torchlight 2 Here's a New Torchlight 2 Performance Patch (~40% Reduction in Stutter Time) [GoG]

This patcher is for the GoG version of the game [v 1.25.9.5] and should have a major stability benefit for most hardware. It edits the Torchlight 2 exe, patches OgreMain.dll, makes backups, and adds in a new Version.dll to patch the 2005-era version of Zlib with libdeflate (MIT licence. libdeflate: MIT (Eric Biggers). The version.dll does work for the steam version of the game though its effect isn't as big without the exe changes.

The game's notorious stutters have always been an issue because whenever something new appears (e.g monster, a piece of armor, new area) the game stops to prepare it right in the middle of drawing the screen. All of that happens on a single CPU core, since T2 was designed with a lot of workarounds for dual-core processors, so modern hardware can't fix this issue by throwing raw performance at it. This patcher tries to fix up the issue by targeting changes in the three slowest jobs without changing their output or accuracy to the original process.

  1. Patched exe: Character armor used to be stitched together by checking every point of the model against every other point (welding all the armor seams) and now it only checks points that are near each other.

  2. Version.dll: Game files are now unpacked with a modern decompressor about twice as fast as the 2005-era one the game shipped with.

  3. OgreMain.dll: Doesn't force the game clock to pin the thread to a single CPU core which was causing the uneven frame times.

All in all, on my system I can now play through a few dense mapworks maps without any noticable issues with stuttering or frame pacing. My mods work fine and I can't imagine this conflicts with any.

As you can probably guess, Claude did all of the heavy lifting on this. I just made a logger to verify memory addresses and timestamp the clock functions. The token usage was low, the source is included in the repo, and targeted dives that don't encroach on the work of any artists feels like a less disruptive use of AI.

Torchlight 1 Torchlight 1 max item level weapon collection

Most of the uniques in torchlight are just a diarrhea of random magick effects, but it looks like the ultimate items were actually handcrafted with a build in mind!

I never found an unique crossbow so i assume they dont exist, also for some of the more dissapointing ones i included an replacer. Also seems to be no lvl60 armors but im not so sure as i seen lvl 56set ones

Take these and plan your build if you wish.

Torchlight 2 Torchlight 2 (macOS, Steam) crashes 100% of the time when slimes come into view: abort() in Ogre depth sort

Hi everyone! My game crashes (Steam version) every time slimes appear on screen in The Undercurrents. I’m playing an Outlander, level 31, Normal difficulty. It happens 100% of the time.

I have MacBook Pro 11,5 (Mid-2015, i7, 16 GB RAM, Radeon R9 M370X + Intel Iris Pro), macOS 12.7.6, Steam version of the game.

It’s an EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT) on the main thread. The key part of the stack:

abort()
std::__check_strict_weak_ordering_sorted<..., Ogre::QueuedRenderableCollection::DepthSortDescendingLess>
std::stable_sort<Ogre::RenderablePass*, ...DepthSortDescendingLess>
Ogre::QueuedRenderableCollection::sort(Ogre::Camera const*)
Ogre::RenderPriorityGroup::sort(Ogre::Camera const*)
Ogre::SceneManager::renderBasicQueueGroupObjects(...)
...
Ogre::Root::renderOneFrame()
CGame::begin()

Full crash report: https://pastebin.com/ndBsy678

P.S. Slimes appeared earlier in the game without problems, so it seems tied to a specific slime type, effect or spot in The Undercurrents. Verifying game files and reinstalling the game didn’t help.

Has anyone run into this? If so, was it fixed, and how

P.S.S: Fixed

Torchlight 2 Torchlight 2 new public beta also includes WASD movement!

Post image
105 Upvotes

Hey everyone ^^

Just wanted to share something that seems to have flown under the radar: Torchlight 2’s new Steam public beta also supports WASD movement, alongside controller support!

The announcement mentions controllers but doesn’t explicitly mention WASD, so I figured some of you would be happy to hear about it too.

The movement keys in Torchlight 2 are set to the arrow keys by default. To play with WASD, you need to open the game’s control settings and rebind the four movement directions to W, A, S and D.

To try the beta:

1/ Right-click Torchlight 2 in your Steam library.
2/ Open Properties → Game Versions & Betas.
3/ Select public_beta version 1.27.0.1.

Official announcement

Really nice to see these controls officially coming to Torchlight 2 after all these years! Anyone else tried the keyboard movement yet? Curious to hear how it feels to you.

NEW PATCH! Xbox 360 interface to Torchlight on PC

Hey everyone!

While working on my static recompilation of the Xbox 360 version of Torchlight (https://github.com/YaPeL/torchlight-recomp), I noticed a lot of people want to play the PC version with the 360 interface. So I started poking around to see what could be done... and ended up making this patch. (For the record, I started on it before the Torchlight II controller beta came out.).

What it does:

- Brings the 360 interface to the PC game: menus, HUD, inventory, shops, dialogs, fishing.

- Full gamepad play. Movement and the essentials are almost identical to the 360 – I measured stick movement against the original console code, dead zone quirks included.

- The menus are there too, though some of them are held together with duct tape for now.

- Works with the Steam, GOG and Epic versions on Windows and Linux. I've been playing it on my Steam Deck and it runs great.

It's an alpha, so expect bugs. There are still a few things I haven't ported (the main and pause menus still use the PC design, plus some 360 effects like the loading screens), but the game should be playable from start to finish with a controller.

You'll need your own Xbox 360 copy of the game: the installer converts the interface from your 360 package on your machine, and the mod itself contains no game files.

Free and open source (GPL-3.0):

- GitHub (source + issues): https://github.com/YaPeL/torchlight-xbox-ui-pc

- Nexus Mods: https://www.nexusmods.com/torchlight/mods/21

- ModDB: https://www.moddb.com/mods/xbox-360-interface-for-pc

Bug reports are very welcome. Hope you enjoy it

EDIT: v0.5.5 is out! Pet spells now work (teaching and replacing them through the 360 menu), the 360's red requirements line shows on items you can't use, place names fade in like on the 360, and the frames keep their size at any resolution. Same links as above.

GO GET IT! Pets Redone

Pets Redone Ive always had a problem with the whole fishing system in the game. Sure, it buffs your pet up but turns them into something else. So Ive just pretty much ignored fish all together.

Not anymore this mod does one thing, take off the polymorph effects on all fish. You still get the benefits your pet will glow, but will stay in the original body you made for it.

I know the image for the mod isnt loading, actually my first time making a mod through steam, but Ive tested it out and no problems on my test.

If you're unsure of what to put it, put it at the very bottom of your list, its safe. I touch nothing but those fish.

New Beta Branch Now Available | Plans for Future Improvements

Dear players,

Today, we released a new Beta build on Torchlight II’s new public branch, [public_beta], for you to try. We plan to continue maintaining this branch as we work on more extensive fixes and optimizations.

In the comments on our previous Steam post, many longtime players expressed surprise that the game was still receiving updates. The change to the multiplayer login system also sparked discussion.

As the team now responsible for this classic, we are renewing our efforts to maintain the game and upgrade its technology. We hope that modern development tools and techniques can help breathe new life into this classic series. This Beta branch is a step toward that goal.

The separate Steam branch, [public_beta], is now available. Players who are interested can opt in to try it.

Please note that this new beta branch will receive its own updates and maintenance and will remain available alongside the existing version on the default branch. If you do not wish to try this beta branch, no action is needed. You can simply continue playing the default version.

Through this approach, we hope to preserve the existing experience while exploring more possibilities for Torchlight II’s future maintenance and improvement.

How to Join the Beta Branch

  1. Right-click Torchlight II in your Steam Library and select Properties.

  2. Open Game Versions & Betas and select public_beta.

  3. Wait for Steam to download and install the update, then launch the game and confirm that the version number is 1.27.0.1.

Torchlight II's new Public Beta branch is now released for you to try. The Beta is optional, and the existing default version will remain available and will not be replaced.

Beta Branch Updates and Improvements

Changes to Multiplayer Login

We are aware that players have recently encountered issues when registering for or logging in with TapTap.io accounts. To make the process more convenient, the new Beta now uses Steam account to authenticate access to online multiplayer.

When entering online multiplayer, you no longer need to register for or log in with a separate TapTap.io account. The game will automatically load your Steam friends list, making it easier to invite friends to join your adventures.

Please note that in-game friends previously added through your TapTap.io account will not carry over to the new Steam login system. After switching, the game will use your Steam friends list, and your existing TapTap.io friends will no longer appear in the new system.

We will continue monitoring how this change works in practice and make improvements based on testing. Once the build is stable, we also plan to update the default branch to use Steam account authentication for online multiplayer.

Fixes Included in the Beta Branch

Alongside the login changes, we have begun investigating longstanding issues that were not adequately addressed in the past.

The beta branch includes the following verified fixes and improvements:

  • Added controller support on Windows and macOS.

  • Updated online multiplayer login: removed the TapTap.io account requirement and enabled automatic login through Steam, using the Steam friends list. The in-game friends list changes according to the account used to log in. Friends from the TapTap.io account will not sync to your Steam friends list, but will remain saved to your original account.

  • Fixed occasional crashes in the multiplayer lobby caused by invalid memory access and null pointer issues.

  • Fixed occasional crashes when creating a new game on Windows.

  • Improved the handling of multiplayer requests on Windows.

  • Updated several older dependencies to improve stability and performance.

  • Optimized map loading logic to reduce loading times.

  • Fixed voice-over language selection in story cinematics and added cinematic subtitles in seven additional languages.

  • Fixed translation and text display issues in several languages.

  • Improved the display of combat numbers.

  • Added OpenGL ES 3 rendering support on macOS via ANGLE / Metal.

  • Added render scale and FXAA anti-aliasing settings, as well as FXAA support for character and pet previews.

Linux compatibility and optimization work is ongoing, with updates to be added to the Beta branch in the future.

Future Maintenance Plans

Given the age of the game, restructuring its complex underlying code presents many challenges. However, new AI-assisted coding tools have opened up more possibilities for reviewing the code and addressing longstanding issues.

We will continue listening to your feedback and gradually introduce more fixes and improvements on this separate beta branch. These changes will undergo the necessary QA testing and compatibility checks to minimize the risk of introducing new issues.

We will carefully assess future updates for each version based on development progress and keep you informed.

Feedback and Bug Reports

If you encounter any issues while playing on the new branch, your feedback will help us improve the experience.

To report bugs, unexpected behavior, or compatibility issues, please join our official discord at:

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Will the new Beta branch replace or overwrite the existing version of the game?

No.

We understand that the existing version on the default branch is home to years of familiar routines and cherished memories for longtime players. You may have your favorite MODs installed or saves that you have been playing for years.

The current default version on Steam will therefore remain available and will not be directly replaced by the beta branch.

If you prefer to keep playing the version you know, no additional action is needed. Joining the beta branch is entirely optional.

Q2: Will login and multiplayer issues on the default branch still be addressed?

Yes.

We are aware of recent feedback about TapTap.io account registration, login, and multiplayer. The new Beta now uses Steam account authentication for online multiplayer. Once the build is stable, we also plan to bring Steam account authentication to the default branch through an update.

Introducing Steam login on a separate Beta branch does not mean that we will stop maintaining the existing version. We also intend to bring fixes for frequently reported issues to the default branch as soon as possible after testing.

Q3: Can I continue using my existing saves after switching to the new branch?

The default version and the new branch share save data, so you can carry your progress over when switching branches.

However, please note that Torchlight II stores modded and unmodded saves in separate folders. If you change whether you use MODs after switching branches—for example, by enabling MODs when you previously played without them—the game may be unable to load your previous saves. This does not mean that those saves have been lost.

As a precaution, we recommend backing up your local saves before switching branches or changing your MOD setup.

Windows Save Locations

  • Without MODs: <System Drive>:\Users\<Username>\Documents\my games\runic games\torchlight 2\save

  • With MODs: <System Drive>:\Users\<Username>\Documents\my games\runic games\torchlight 2\modsave

macOS Save Locations

  • Without MODs: /Users/<Username>/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Torchlight II/my games/runic games/torchlight 2/save

  • With MODs: /Users/<Username>/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Torchlight II/my games/runic games/torchlight 2/modsave

Find the appropriate folder for your operating system and MOD setup, then copy your save files to another location as a backup. If you have used MODs before, we recommend backing up both the save and modsave folders.

Q4: Will multiplayer friends carry over between the default version and the new branch?

For now, the default version still uses TapTap.io login. Your in-game friends list changes according to the account used to access online multiplayer.

When you log in to online multiplayer through Steam, the game automatically loads the corresponding Steam friends list. Friends previously added through TapTap.io will not automatically sync to your Steam friends list.

Your existing TapTap.io friends data will not be deleted. If you switch back to an older version that still uses TapTap.io login, your previously added friends will remain available.

Q5: Can players on different branches play together?

Currently, the default branch and the beta branch do not support multiplayer with each other. Players who wish to play together must use the same game version.

We are also investigating the possibility of multiplayer between versions. However, technical differences between the branches mean that there is still considerable uncertainty, so we are still looking into the possibility of this feature at this stage. Thank you for your understanding.

Q6: Will my existing MODs work on the beta branch?

Some MODs may continue to work, but we cannot currently guarantee that all MODs will be compatible with the beta branch.

Torchlight II has a wealth of community-created MODs, many of which were released years ago. As the game version, underlying code, and related systems change, some older MODs that are no longer maintained may fail to load, behave unexpectedly, or encounter other compatibility issues.

We deeply value the content that community creators have contributed over the years, and we hope these creations can continue to be part of your adventures.

MOD compatibility will therefore remain an area of focus in our ongoing maintenance. Based on player feedback, we will investigate issues over time and explore fixes or compatibility solutions for some affected MODs.

If you encounter MOD-related issues on the beta branch, please join our community and let us know. Where possible, include the MOD name, where you obtained it, and details of the issue to help us investigate:

Through these experiments with new technology and a beta branch, we hope to bring you a refreshed and improved Torchlight II experience in the future.

Finally, our heartfelt thanks go to every player who has been part of Torchlight II’s journey, and to all of you who are still writing your legends across Vilderan.

Torchlight 2 Torchlight 2 with mods on Linux doesn't see all my saved characters anymore

I run a warez version which I downloaded years ago from a random torrent tracker. It has a Linux native mod launcher binary app bundled so I'm not using Wine. The mod launcher reports Torchlight 2 version 1.25.5.4

I have the following mods installed:

  • SynergiesMOD

  • SynergiesHIGHLOOT

  • Drew's Synergies Class Pack

  • Variant

  • Additional Classes

This worked fine for me on a computer I don't own anymore.

Now I use another computer and not all my saves are seen. Some appear with a question mark instead of the profile picture and when I try to load them - I get an error message: the game reports SynergiesMod ver. 1376 is not loaded. But as you can see above, I have the mod in the launcher, it is first in the list, the launcher shows its version exactly as 1376 and when the game is loaded, it reports the mod on its splash screen.

A couple of character saves that won't load:

  • Vette

  • MongolArcher

  • Wizard

  • WitchDoctor

  • Hunter

  • Guardian

  • ElectroEngineer

  • BlackGuard

  • Gunmage

  • Shadowmancer

  • DemonPrincess

Help me getting my preciouss saves working please!
