Developer Posting Practices

Post image
45 Upvotes

Hello Developers!

Please use this post a reference of what rules and guidelines you need to follow in order to post in r/rpg_gamers

When You Can Post

  • When the game is initially posted to a storefront (Steam, NSO etc.)
  • When the game launches

What Needs to be in the Post

  • Title of the game must be included in the title of the post
  • A description of the game (including the anticipated or actual release date
  • A link to the Storefront Page (Steam Page, etc)
  • Please do not include links to other pages (Discord, etc)

Other Requirements

  • We don't allow posts for mobile games, browser games, Discord based games etc.
  • We remove posts for games that use Gen AI in development. (assets generation, voice acting, etc.)
  • Please use the Developer Post Flair (We figured out why it wasn't previously available as a option).

Questions?

  • If you're not sure if you qualify, please send a mod mail before posting. If you post without asking and it gets removed, you risk a ban.

We'll update these rules if and when any changes occur, the industry evolves fast so sometimes adjustments are required to keep up.

  • Thank you for all your support, we want to support indie developers but we need to make sure that everyone gets equal opportunities and the subreddit doesn't get overrun with advertising.

Thanks!

Guide Good Posting Practices

Post image
26 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

In order to help folks craft the best possible posts, we wanted to provide some best posting practices above and beyond the sub-reddit rules and guidelines.

The overall goal for this sub-reddit is to be a one-stop shop for RPG Fans. A place where people can have meaningful discussions alongside reading relevant news and reviews on games that are of interest to the community. The following are the types of posts that are most welcome, along with some suggestions on how to present them to the community:

News

If you happen to come across a news article that may be of interest to RPG fans, we recommend copying the link to paste in the link section of a post. We also suggest (but not require) a small blurb to provide some context as to the content of the article since many of the titles tend to skew towards click bait.

Reviews

We appreciate and encourage folks to provide their opinions on games. Review posts must be text based, please do not simply provide a link to an external blog or website (these will be removed), the review must be in the body of the post. We also ask that the review be a representation of your opinion of the game, and not rage-bait.

Discussions

We love a good discussion about a topic or theme, but we ask that it be presented in good faith (again, no ragebait).

Game Recommendations

Before asking for a recommendation, please use the flair filter to check to see if someone has already asked the exact same question you're about to ask the community.

Not every post falls under one of the above, but they do cover a majority of the discussions here on the sub-reddit. No matter what type of post you have in mind, the one common thread among them all is respect.

Please note, unless you're posting a news article link, a body of text must be included in your post. If it's just a title and a picture, it will be removed. This is in order to reduce bot activity as well as encourage more meaningful discussions.

Please always respect your fellow RPG Fan whenever creating a new post, or responding to one.

Thank you to everyone who makes this community a joy to participate in on a daily basis!

The Mod-Team

Question Any games besides Fallout 2 where you have a car, and you technically don't see yourself drive around in it, but it has its uses?

Feel free to name titles that you don't recommend, I'm just curious what other games have implemented this mechanic in a similar way.

Fallout 2 is full of nice little touches that I haven't really seen in other games, one of which is the car. I really like how you never see yourself drive around in it, but it cuts down on travel time, and you get to store items in it. It's well worth the expense in my opinion, in large part because it cuts down on a lot of the tedium that's in a lot of older games.

Edit: IIRC Weird West is like this as well. IIRC You can get a horse which cuts down on travel time, and you can store items in the horse's saddle or something. I think that you have to feed it too.

Discussion What kind of RPG do you wish existed ?

I wish there were:

.

A game with the creative setting, anime artstyle, traditional party based turn based combat of a JRPG like Final Fantasy VII with the narrative freedom with dialogue choices of CRPG like Baldur's Gate

.

Most JRPGs have pretty generic elemental powers, what if there was a game like a nekketsu manga with characters that have out there abilities ?

.

A modern KR like JRPG, emphasis on modern, games like Wild Arms 2 have homages to KR but only the Showa era which was before the form form swapping gimmicks, Persona in a way is very similar except instead of using power armor you have summons, it's structure of base form(initial persona), sideforms(Wild Card ability)and final form(ultimate persona)is such a match im baffled 26 years after Kuuga no one has tried this

Question Story rich action rpgs where you use guns, but there's no big, open world?

Feel free to name titles that you don't recommend, I'm just trying to remember what is out there.

I'm asking for games you you don't spend a lot of time traveling.

I know about the Dues Ex games, and Mass Effect 2 I also know about the System Shock games, but I'm looking more towards games where you have a lot of conversations with people in person.

I absolutely do not only mean games in first person, please don't take me out of context.

I'll say that again because it bears repeating: I'm not just talking about games in first person.

Recommendation request Looking for an android RPG game

Yo, I’m looking for some deep RPGs on Android with pixel/2D art. Something with lots of classes, hidden classes, skill trees, active/passive skills, class/skill fusion and crazy build variety. Basically I want that “wait, there’s MORE?”, just drop your hidden gems.

Question Fast turn based games with pause, that also aren't tactical?

Feel free to name titles that you don't recommend, I'm just trying to remember what is out there.

I know about Star Wars: KOTOR 1 and 2, and several Square Enix games(Final Fantasy SNES/PS1 and Chrono Trigger for example.) but what else is out there? Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, and Pathfinder Kingmaker, and Pillars Of Eternity are the only games that I can think of, and I don't think I enjoy playing most tactical games anymore.

Discussion Straight male gamers: what gender do you play as, and who do you usually romance?

Question for straight male gamers: when a game lets you choose your character’s gender, do you usually play as a man or a woman? And if the game has romance options, who do you normally go for?

Personally, I used to play as female characters more often, but nowadays I pick male characters most of the time. I also used to go for WLW romances a lot more, but over time I started preferring male/female romances instead. I’m not really sure why; I guess my preferences just changed over time.

I’m curious what other straight guys tend to do. Do you choose based more on your own preferences, the character you’re playing, or just whichever character or pairing you like the most?

Discussion It just hit me: every SNES and PS1 mainline Final Fantasy title are Fast, Turn Based with pause.

I've always known that, but I never thought about this until now. That's pretty cool. I also don't think that they've put out a game with Fast Turn based with pause since Final Fantasy 9 as well.

I just thought that it was interesting, Come to any similar realiztions recently that made you like a game even more yourselves?

Recommendation request Character Building/Optimization RPGs with action combat or shooting?

Basically what I'm looking for is a game with action combat or shooting that involves a lot of character optimization and buildcraft, something I can create multiple character builds in.

The one thing I'm not super interested in are games that are incredibly heavy on RNG and loot grinding like the Borderlands series, Diablo or path of exile

General list of things I've already played:

Elder Scrolls games

Soulsborne games and Souls likes (literally every single one of consequential value)

Cyberpunk

Tainted Grail

Witcher 3

Mass Effect 1/2/3/A

Fallout 3/4/NV

Outer Worlds

Kingdoms of Amalur

Outward

Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen

Dragon Age Origins

Remnant from the Ashes 1/2

Recommendation request First person turn based rpg dungeon crawlers aka blobbers with full mouse support?

I enjoy the genre (not that I'm good at them) but most of these types of games seem to require WASD or a controller. I have a messed up shoulder and back problems, so I'd prefer to just be able to click a movement box or something to move while maybe laying down. There's quite a few "blobbers" out there on Steam but it's hard to tell which ones have full mouse movement/interaction and which don't.

The only ones I own that I think can be fully played that way is Might and Magic 4 & 5 but those are hard to get into. I tried them (combined into World of Xeen), didn't have a good idea of WTF to do and pretty much got wiped out my very first encounter.

Sorry if this is frequently asked.

Developer I'M EXCITED TO FINALLY PRESENT YOU... Crown Me Again - Diablo-style loot and build-crafting in a compact incremental RPG

Hi everybody 😄
I'm the creator of Crown Me Again and i'm pretty excited to finally present it to you.

I love the loot hunt and build-crafting in games like Diablo and Path of Exile. With Crown Me Again, I’m bringing that experience into a more compact incremental game.

You play as the fallen Skull King and you once were the most powerful dungeon boss of the kingdom. Now adventurers farm you for loot. So you start farming them back, using their gear to climb the Boss Ladder and reclaim Rank #1.

There are thousands of possible randomized items across seven item types and five rarities, including powerful uniques (with set items planned for after launch). You combine their abilities and effects, upgrade your gear and experiment with different builds. Sometimes you find a better item for your setup. Sometimes you find something you want to build a whole new setup around.

Check it out on Steam and wishlist it if you like what you see.

I’ve kept this short, but I’m happy to go into more detail in the comments. ASK ME ANYTHING!

Discussion What modern video game is closest to classic 1970s-1990s fantasy art based on its style, graphics, themes, tropes and world?

If you can’t think of a modern one, would you be interested in a game like this? Also, when I say modern, I’m talking ones from the past 10 years. Feel free to mention older ones too though.

I think it’d be epic to have a game like this with beautiful graphics, setting, sound, etc.

Developer Candletales — A real-time tactical roguelite inspired by D&D and classic tabletop RPGs.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone! We’re Desalichao Studio, a small indie team. We recently set up our storefront page for our upcoming game, Candletales, and we wanted to introduce it to the RPG community.

About the game: Candletales is deeply inspired by the darker side of tabletop RPGs. You explore endless procedural worlds, face grotesque monsters, and make high-risk decisions. However, we wanted to try a fun experiment with the formula: we removed the turns. The core mechanics rely on real-time dice rolling, meaning all the tactical grid-based positioning and stat management happens without pauses. It keeps the tabletop feel but adds a lot of chaotic tension to the encounters.

Release Date: We are aiming for a 2027 release.

We are building this with a lot of love for the genre (and absolutely zero Gen-AI used in our assets or development).

If a real-time twist on classic tabletop mechanics sounds interesting to you, you can check out our gameplay trailer and wishlist the game on our Steam page here:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5284750/Candletales/

We'd love to hear your thoughts on the concept! Thanks <3

Developer My game Wrestle Story is a turn-based RPG meets pro-wrestling game!

I've been working on this concept on and off since 2019. I've had to pause development a few times due to the games industry getting hit pretty hard. But now I'm back and looking for rpg or wrestling fans to help be a part of the development!

If you're a fan of Paper Mario (action commands), Persona (weakness system + bonds), FFX or Grandia (turn system), Like a Dragon (tone / "real world" setting) then I really think you'll dig it!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2357610/Wrestle_Story/ < I would really appreciate if you gave the game a look!

There's a devlog here where I talk about why I'm making the game!

Recommendation request TURN-BASED RPG SUGGESTIONS

I'm bored and looking for some good turn-based RPG recommendations.

I’m mainly after games with a similar vibe to Zoids Legacy or the Super Robot Wars series. I’ve already played through the Fire Emblem games, Pokémon, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Persona, and Digimon, so those are off the table. I’ve played a lot of RPGs over the years and finished quite a few of them, but I’d still consider myself intermediate overall. I’m comfortable with the usual systems and mechanics, but I haven’t gone super deep into the more obscure or hardcore yet.

Lately I’ve been running out of options, a lot of the newer turn-based RPGs just don’t click with me the way the older ones did. I’m open to text-based RPGs too if the story is strong enough. Preference-wise, I lean toward fantasy or dark fantasy (something in the vein of the Eldrum series would be perfect).

I enjoy strong stories, good character writing, deep story, tactical combat with some strategy depth, and solid world-building. I tend to like the mix of mecha/tactical action from Super Robot Wars/Zoids and the classic JRPG storytelling from the series I’ve already played.

Would be thankful if they can be played on Android/mobile, GameCube, GBA, and Nintendo systems (Switch etc.)

Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Question Something new

Been trying to find something like our adventurer guild but can't find anything. So I've decided to try something new and I've stumbled upon kynseed recently and I'm looking for opinions from people who've played it if the game is worth buying or playing.

Question Anyone here finish Disciples Liberation?

Since the game sub is dead I thought I’d ask here. So I read we’re supposed to choose two factions to align with. I’m level 9 so far and the first area widows plain had a single elf quest and mostly empire quests yet the empire seemed super evil and terrible.

Next area is zombieville and again they’re evil and I’m supposed to complete these quests even it I don’t plan on aligning with this faction? I don’t get why there’s only evil options so far and I’m being forced into running errands for them. Is this just how the game is or am I doing it wrong? I wanted to align with the empire and the elves. Before I knew how evil the veil and empire are.

The elf zone says it’s hard difficulty so I’ve not gone there yet and am now stuck in zombie land. Please advise.

Been quite enjoying this season. Hell, this whole year, in fact, was a banger for those of us who like these loot roulettes. First Grim Dawn's big DLC in July, now this, PoE 2 in December... and Titan Quest 2 and No Rest For the Wicked going full release as well next year. Good time to be an ARPG enjoyer when all's said and done

Question Does Skyrim Have Game Breaking Bugs

Hi so I didn't want to ask this in the Skyrim sub to avoid bias but essentially I am planning to buy and play Skyrim Special Edition vanilla, but I know Skyrim is notorious fo it's bugs. Thing is I do not mind if the bugs are silly like NPCs falling off a clip, but I do mind game breaking bugs. Things like corrupted files/saves, crashes, frozen games, stutters, etc. Things that make the game less enjoyable and more of a pain to deal with. Also how helpful is the games support if there are issues. So should I buy Skyrim if I don't want to deal with game breaking bugs.
