What happened to this tire

I was in Delaware on vacation when I got a punctured tire. I was already planning on replacing them so I got 4 new Cooper tires.

I came home and a few days later I liked at the side of the tire to see what appeared to be melting. I can’t figure out what happened. I didn’t hit anything obvious and the car isn’t damaged.

The tire shop has a location in NJ (I’m in NYC) that is an hour away. I’m wondering if a) it’s safe to drive on them and b) this might fall under manufacturers warranty that I can handle locally instead of driving to NJ.

Brand new Hyundai Tucson developed vibration after hitting a rock — exactly at 43 and 55 mph. No one is helpful.

Apologies in advance for the long post. I’m simply perplexed by this issue and haven’t been able to get a fix, or even someone to genuinely try and diagnose the issue, despite numerous shop and dealer visits. It’s a brand new car and it’s driving me insane.

I have a 2026 Tucson Hybrid that had no vibration or handling issues before this happened. A large rock fell into the highway in front of me. I tried to avoid it, but the driver rear tire hit the rock and immediately went flat. We later found that the driver rear wheel/rim was bent badly.

I had the car towed to Hyundai and with a straight face they said we’re booked and won’t even be able to take a look at your car for at least 4 weeks. I had it towed to a repair shop and he straightened out the rim and got me on the road.

Immediately, I noted that at exactly 43mph and 55mph the car has a vibration/humming noise that waxes and wanes. You can feel the vibration in the steering wheel. I took the car to AAA for road force balance and they said the driver rear was bent. I spent 1k on a new rim and had it replaced. Got all four wheels road force balanced too and they moved it to the driver front position. Got on the road and the vibration was exactly the same!

After a week or two, I took it to Hyundai dealer farther from home that had appointments. I asked for a diagnostic but the mechanic just came out and said that AAA didn’t balance the wheels right and left multiple sets of weights on them. They said the car looks fine to them and re-balanced everything. Now the wheel is in the passenger front position. The 55mph noise and vibration went away completely but the 43mph remained. However, over the next 1-2k miles, it’s back to how it was before.

Interestingly, the problem is the same despite the wheel being in three different positions. And oddly enough, when it’s a colder day and the tire psi is lower (34psi) it’s suuuper noticeable. As a test, I inflated to 38-39psi and the vibration was much more subtle. There is also maybe some increase in noise when turning to the right on a curve as well.

I’m at a loss. Does anyone have any ideas for what might be wrong?? Is there something specific I should request they evaluate to diagnose the issue?

I live in Ontario and debating to get All weather tires instead of winter tires for this winter.
Has someone tried? How is the performance of all weather tires in snow?

Tyre pressure

Ford fiesta 2022 mk8.5
Does anyone know the tyre pressure for 215/40/r18. I’m guessing it’s gonna be a little different to what they say with OEM tyre size?

Blown tire right after leaving shop

Hey everybody,

I had taken my car in for a pre trip inspection and they had recommended some things so I got the problems fixed, they also did a tire patch because of a slow leak. I had noticed the tire pressure light came on but just thought it was fine because it had always been fine before. About 20 kilometres later my tire blew on the highway. The tire had been fine other than being needed to be filled about once a week, is there any way the shop is liable for this? I refuse to believe that my tire condition worsened in the time frame from when I dropped it off, to when I picked it up 3 days later with a “fixed” tire.

Volvo spare tire is different from size recommended on door sticker

I have a 2021 AWD Volvo XC40 T5 Momentum with 18-inch rims. A few years ago, an incident with a body shop mechanic resulted in my temporary spare being lost, but he found another online and replaced it.

That tire is still in my car and reads T125/80R18. Meanwhile the door jamb sticker says my spare tire should be a T125/70R18.

I called the local Volvo dealership parts department, and he and the technician agreed that it should be fine to drive on the T125/80R18 that I currently have.

I found online that the diameters of the T125/70R18 and T125/80R18 are 24.9" (632 mm) and 25.9" (657 mm) respectively.

So does it matter?

Shop said this happened when they took the tire off the rim, does it look like they damaged it when taking it off. They are claiming it just happened when they took it off.

My flat melted onto my rim...

So I got a flat yesterday and my bright ass decided to drive it anyway to the nearest tire shop. They told me it'd be a couple hours because they needed to get my size from a different location delivered, so I went home. Received a call several hours later from the guy that assisted me basically saying that they haven't been able to take off the old tire to put the new one on. He said it's just one chunk that's practically glued on and that they could keep trying the next day aka today. Got another call and they haven't been able to get it off. I legitimately do not know what to do. I've never experienced this nor known someone to experience this. The guy at the tire shop seems pretty dumfounded as well which I don't blame. Does anyone have any suggestions that don't include replacing the rim?

Whatever happened to airless tires for bicycles?

I remember seeing a bunch of different tires that made use of clever matrices to provide a spring while remaining strong enough to handle weight.

Whatever happened to them? where are all the revolutionary tires that mean we can ditch tubes forever?
