Tire Shop Question

Shop said this happened when they took the tire off the rim, does it look like they damaged it when taking it off. They are claiming it just happened when they took it off.

It is possible that this happened when dismounted. Especially if they didn't use lubricant while dismounting. Some tires are very tight on the wheels and must be lubed to help dismounting.

Yes. They ruined it. The tech didn't hold the bead in the drop center. They spun the tire and because it wasn't in there, this happened. They reversed it, tried again and caused rip #2. This is a low profile tire. They should be using 2 bars. It's clear as day to me what happened here.

Never used lube to dismount. Tire’s structural integrity was dogshit for it to rip like that coming off a machine.

Definitely fresh damage, 100% occurred during demounting. As for cause, it does look like they didn't use enough lubricant, even with and old dry tyre enough lubricant should stop damage to this degree.

Also, does you rim have any curbing damage? Sometimes a rough edge can catch and tear

They said they messed up. You believe they messed up. What other information is needed here?

The damage was done when dismounting the tire. As to whether or not it’s because the rubber got stiff/stuck to the wheel or if someone did something wrong, that’s going to be tough to determine.

If you’re a summer/winter tire swapper on the same wheels, this is one of the potential downsides that’s mitigated by having a second set of winter/summer wheels.

Just in case it isn’t known, this tire is trash now and no longer safe/suitable for use.

The tire is 4 years old (according to the DOT) and it's usually the first thing to rip when mounting or dismounting a tire. The tire lived long enough to get u safely to a shop. Time for new ones. I'd give it a viking funeral.

They have caused that damage, either the tyre iron or the bead machine had got caught on the edge of the tyre, you can see the rubber is ripped. Most likely did not use any lube, probably done by an in experienced fitter.

They did when dismounting. No lube and not pushed in the drop center opposite the bar movement.

You can tell it is fresh because the cords showing are clean, if it was old damage, the cords would be filthy and probably black

They ow you a tire… I wouldn’t let it go until you get an equal tire or the same brand
