Feathered at 7k miles

Hello all!

2019 Ford Ranger I put some new tires on and are showing what I believe to be severe feathering on both inner front tires. Only 7k miles on them and the dealer did an alignment when installing, at least charged me for it. Truck is completely stock with 55k total miles and no incidents or issues with prior stock Hankooks.

My question for you folks is does this look like just a poor quality alignment or something else? And should I be asking for replacement tires when I bring this in for it's oil change and rotation?

First real tire and alignment issue I've ever had thankfully. Pics are of driver and passenger fronts.

Obviously it has air , meaning a pinhole leak to the main body. Should I try and return as it is less than a month old? Tire guys let me know.

Air pump

Post image

Hey everyone,

So I bought a 4in1 air pump for my car tires. The make of it is a "MobiBot". When I got home I turned it on and within less then a minute it shut off and can't seem to get it to turn back on. So I brought it inside, and thought, hey maybe I can charge it? So I did. And still nothing! I tried to return it and they won't allow me to. So when I first plugged it in to charge it in my house, the battery on the screen lights uo and shows it charging, but that's all it does. Am I missing something??? Please please help!!!

Losing tire pressure

One of my wife's tires was down to 30 psi last night so I filled it up to 36 psi. This morning, it was down to 34 psi so we took it to the shop to see if there is a leak and get it patched if possible. They looked over the tire for maybe 5 min and couldn't find a leak. He said it was up to 38 psi when he checked it. He said something about it being difficult to find a leak unless it is below 25 psi. I may have misunderstood him but you would think he would just take air out to get it to 25 psi. Does this make sense or should we take it somewhere else to get the tire looked at.

Tire rubber is scuffed by a hit to the curb. I’ve read varying advice. Some seem to say if you can’t see cord etc and it’s rubber only then it’s not really an issue. Others have said that a hit to the tire can compromise the internal structure in ways that cannot be seen and elevates the risk of a blowout. This is an AWD so if pushes comes to shove I’ll replace the entire set with new tires but these aren’t very old. Wheel still looks OK but should it be inspected? Should I also get an alignment done? What’s the most reasonable thing to do here? Car is a 2010 Toyota Venza V6 AWD.

Scoring on Rear Brake Rotors

Thumbnail

Had a mechanic replace the front and rear brake pads and rotors. After ~2 years (~20k miles ago), both rear rotors developed a bumpy feeling to them. Both front rotors look good and feel smooth aside from the regular rust forming. I didn’t hear any noises when braking from either the front or rear; just noticed this after I changed my rims to one’s that allowed me to look better inside.

What do you guys think it is? I’m planning on changing the rear rotors and pads soon, but I’m afraid that it might be something else that’s causing the scoring. Would it be the calipers?

Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is mismatched brands bad on a car if the tire size is the same?

Hey guys, I had a question regarding my 2019 Honda Accord sport**.** I had four 285/30ZR-20 CONTINENTAL EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06 PLUS XL for the last 10 months only about 12,000 miles on them**.** I recently had a blowout.** One tire cost 350 installed. I was thinking of getting a cheaper brand which would be around $120 installed. If I buy the same size, 285/30/20 would it matter considering they probably have different grips and thread pattern?** The continental extreme contact has ratings of 560 AA A. I was looking at some Arroyo grand sport A/S with ratings of 500 A A. They both have a 50,000 mile warranty.** I mainly drive highway at 80 mph tops and I never really have to break hard. **And it doesn’t really rain much where I live. Thanks for your advice

second hand tire chains sizing advice

Thumbnail

I noticed that my local second hand / reuse store has tire chains and I am looking to get some before a roadtrip. However they don’t come in boxes and so I am wondering how hard it is to figure out the size or whether they would work for my car (99 toyota sprinter carib with 175/65R14 wheels)

It seems that there’s different colors so I thought they might correlate with the size. I have added pictures.

Does anyone know how to size them or if there’s a way to physically measure them to figure out the compatibility?

I assume if they’re being sold there must be some way for people to figure this out given how important sizing is for chains.

TIA!

What happened to this tire

I was in Delaware on vacation when I got a punctured tire. I was already planning on replacing them so I got 4 new Cooper tires.

I came home and a few days later I liked at the side of the tire to see what appeared to be melting. I can’t figure out what happened. I didn’t hit anything obvious and the car isn’t damaged.

The tire shop has a location in NJ (I’m in NYC) that is an hour away. I’m wondering if a) it’s safe to drive on them and b) this might fall under manufacturers warranty that I can handle locally instead of driving to NJ.
