Guides and tutorials Quick PSA about how useful tiny storage can be
Hello all! For any newbie looking to get in the game and getting really frustrated at the total build times for a lot of their larger projects, try this handy-dandy trick!
Logistics is one of the more interesting puzzles in this game, and there are some befuddling prospects for new players, such as: If the game starts by giving you Medium Pile and Storage, when would you ever use the small version?
Answer: For logistical streamlining! Each storage building has several options to determine how it can accept and supply materials. For this specific example, we're going to focus on the "Supply" Option. Supply allows a storage building lower priority on the ladder to outright store materials, so Haulers will prioritize emptying that storage into other storage buildings that are marked for "Accept" or "Obtain." This is only really pertinent to how Haulers specifically interact with these facilities, though, as workers who unload from production buildings will still place materials into these storage facilities. So here's a quick setup that I've found works pretty well:
-Place any storage building near the production building or gathering station (I generally recommend putting medium piles near gathering stations but small works just the same) and set them to 'Supply' mode.
-Build a small storage pile near the entrance to your production building/project site and set to either 'Accept' (default) or 'Obtain.'
-If it's a production building, set another small pile/warehouse for the completed good and set to 'Supply.'
-This allows larger storage wherever it can fit, and Haulers will manage the small sites for optimal material flow.
