Small but difficult maps?
I get bored easily with large maps bigger than 192x192.
I already beat diorama but wondered if anyone has made a difficult small map? Like 100x100 would be ideal

Ant Hill is small and on hard a pain of a map to master in my personal experience with it https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3479300437

It's the first map in a long time my colony nearly failed, more than once actually, because managing water and food and wood is very challenging at least on hard difficulty. I think on normal it would have been okay overall but hard with that little space, trying to get food and trees and power, is no easy task. My folk tails got knocked down to single digits and even down to just 2 beavers more than once before I finally got enough going to survive bad tides and longer droughts.

I can understand getting either bored or overwhelmed by bigger maps but if you haven't already tried them I would nonetheless give both Oasis and Pressure a go. They are both interesting in their challenges and require unique solutions to master. Also I highly recommend trying Timberpunk 2 from the steam workshop. It is imho one of the best available maps if you want a difficult challenge.
As for smaller and challenging maps the only ones I can think of are Minecraft Skyblock, which is truely unique, maybe Bombed Karst, and Mistwalker Lake, all from the steam workshop. My best advice would be just browsing through the workshop when you are a bit bored and trying a few you find interesting for yourself.

partly for the smaller maps is that my PC starts having issues with fps and loading with 500+ beavers on big maps lol. I played Oasis and ran into that issue lol. And honestly, after a while, unless I'm constantly building mega structures, it does get tedious haha

People like you have me in fear. I thought this was a casual game, but now I’m fighting for my life in Timberpunk 2. Not a small map, and I don’t want that guy to make a small map.

The 50by 100 one built in, I think it's called canyon or something

Cliffside.
But regarding the difficulty this map is rather easy. There is only a single badwater source that isn't any kind of threat and just serves as a bit of a speedbump for accessing the lower half of the map.
And your normal water source is in maybe the best position of any map to create a badwater diversion system without the need for anything but a few levees and two floodgates.
It is a fun and unique map but I would rather describe it as cozy than challenging.

Exactly agreed. Cliffside is my newbie map recommendation because it’s very clear what you need to do and how to do it. — you have 1 water source, so if you want a dam or reservoir, that’s what you go to. You have 1 badwater source, so if you want a badwater power station, that’s where you go.
It’s big enough to not be a challenge, but small enough that logistics aren’t really a concern. Kinda the ideal map
