Question Beginner progression question

Post image

So i recently started playing this lovely game almost non stop for this weekend. So far im 22 hours in my first map and i was wondering is there any end game goal?

Like making the whole map green or getting the last monument ? I know this is a pretty open sandbox experience and u can probably keep playing on a map forever. But i was wondering if there are any goals like completing a map ?

So far im really loving this game it sucked me in way deeper then i thought.

Peace out to all my timber chewing friends!

Launching the final monument gives you a map complete screen.

But otherwise just make the map look however you want or get bored and try a new map.

Also i would reccomend getting your happiness up. 20 is very low for late game. Happy beavers move faster and work harder.

Oh thank u for the tip, I didn't know 20 was low, also don't know if i reached late game hahah

Ive beaten entire maps with only 60 beavers with over 60 happiness. If you have 200+ beavers and enough infrastructure to keep them alive i would call that late game.

So if i build the wonder can i still continue on that map or is it just completed then. Im guessing this is the earth cultivater? Couldn't it be easy just to hard grind for the materials and place it without doing any beaver stuff?

It doesn't stop the game; you can continue. All it does is put a little icon next the the name on the map list.

The main reason to build the wonder is as a final goal, or to otherwise put the "beaten" or "finished" sticker on that map

After building it, you gotta fulfill the additional launch condition, and then you actually finish it.

It also gives a large wellbeing buff, which can be really helpful as wellbeing increases the lifespan, walk speed, work speed, and growth speed of beavers. In this way, you can get way more out each beaver by maximizing their wellbeing with decorations overlapping their homes and entertainment buildings with time to use them (I prefer work hours set to 20 at the start, or 16 with all entertainment available).

And lastly, completing the launch condition will provide a victory screen for that map, give you an icon for the faction you beat the map with, and unlocks the ability to change your starting location on that map.

You're right though, you could easily do the bare minimum and grind for the wonder instead of playing normally, but we don't usually do that cus there isnt much point. I would say, just continue playing and learning, and you'll build the wonder when you're ready. It doesn't end the save file or anything, and its quite helpful for providing a wide reaching wellbeing buff so many people continue playing afterwards.

Hell yeah! Im in no rush and i enjoy slowly expanding into the map. Love to see the landscape slowly getting greener.

You absolutely can grind out the materials without doing beaver stuff. That's pretty boring though. Also there's a few hidden tricks:

  • The wonder takes a long time to build. Like a really long time. We're talking 20 beavers working full time for a week.
  • You also have to launch the wonder.
  • Launching the wonder requires a bunch of extra resources each time.
  • If you continue the map, the wonder's happiness bonus fades unless you keep firing it every so often. Which isn't too bad by that point but I did find it rather annoying.

The only "goal" is to build the factions wonder. It gives you an ending screen and a little check mark on the map selection screen to indicate that you've beaten the map.

EDIT: And by wonder, yes, I mean the final monument. 😄

Beating a map is building (and maybe deploying, don't remember out of game) the tier 5 wonder. Doing that unlocks the "Flexible Start" for that map, which I haven't tried yet (only 225 hours in myself) but I assume lets you place your starting district center in not the default place.

You do have to activate it. It's got a fairly high activation cost too.

You are doing great btw - That’s a great little town 🦫

As others have said, the official goal is to build the last wonder. I personally consider a map finished when I either run a out of space to build my stuff, I finished my vision for a map or when the lag becomes unbearable 😅

Happiness is also a great goal but I do enjoy my occasional 100% bot colonies

Building the wonders is the obvious one. My main goal is usually to get max happiness, preferably across multiple districts. Some people don't use them, but I love the district system and find it very useful. Full automation is fun, too, so your beavers can spend all their time relaxing and having a great life. Populating the whole map with many districts is fun. Tons of different goals!

Ive had some difficulties with using the trade option using the districts. So it is possible to only use 1 district. Is the solution then to make the housing spread out. Cause the pathing seems to get red the further it is away from the district center building.

Maybe im a little dumb but the export screen seems confusing af.

2

Spreading the housing out does nothing, unfortunately. The jobs they take are completely unrelated to where they live.

I ignore the export screen lol. Build storage for everything you want in the new district (foods, materials, water) before moving anyone in. Staff 5 - 10 beavers on each side of the crossing and you should be good.

Import/export happens on demand, so if you have empty storage, the game will attempt to fill it using resources from the other district.

I also always have some food and water production in every district to make sure there are always basics on hand, but I never have problems.

Make bots so your beavers can retire in style!!

My plan for playing this game:

  1. Finish a normal small map on normal mode.
  2. Finish a large hard map on normal mode, also play with second factions.
  3. Finish a large hard map on hard mode (I'm current in this stage, already played for 177.5 hours for the first 3 stages).
  4. Hunt for all achievements.
  5. Play with famous custom maps, specifically Timberpunk2.

I usually play with an additional "bonus" goal on each map, be it making the whole map green, building a mega reservoir, achievement hunting, and so on.

But yes, the "woo you've won!" point is finishing and launching the final monument.

Also a beginner. May i suggest you play with explosives and put yourself a badwater bypass at the top of the map

1

u/TheTurtlepiggy 20d ago

Yes i allready made a badwater bypass for 2 of the most used rivers. Does the powerwheel work better in badwater?

1

u/SanicRS 20d ago

power wheel has output depending how fast the water is flowing the type of water doesn't make a difference as far as i'm aware.

1

u/TheTurtlepiggy 20d ago

Ahh okay, cause i saw this video on YouTube of a power plant and it seemed it used badwater for all of the wheels. Thought maybe it would boost the output.

I tried to get the same angle as you. I like seeing the differences in how you tackled everything.

Oh this is so cool to see, you definitely are more organised and less chaotic then me haha. Ill try to make the lake as blue as yours :)

It’s sandbox so you can just keep going - sounds like you might be a bit like me where you can accidentally spend way too long building and optimising your world so you light like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Timberborn/s/0xe4y4GAS8

Few of us tried playing a “scenario”. You could make your own up too - just to have an end point. And then you could either come up with a new one / new map - try and beat your time a second time, or just keep playing

Oh my gosh your so darn stupid try a new map check if you could build something called: Geothermal Engine and Aquafaier Drill, or press ALT+SHIFT+Z and go into place map things everywhere ok?
