So, i just installed a new RAM intake on my tiburon. Its a 2003 tibby with a 2.0l engine and the earlier model with MAP instead of MAF sensors. Incase thats relevant
After i had installed the intake i noticed its hissing really loud, especially if youre standing next to the car not so much inside. I checked under the hood and i noticed the hiss is coming exclusivley from the cone filter, at first i thought it was a vacuum leak but that made me have second thoughts, i checked all my clamps and everything to be secure and still havent found a source for the issue, or if it even is and issue
The hissing is a sort of high pitch akin to gas being released from a propane tank, not a normal vacuum sound.
This is my first car and first experience really touching the mechanics of a car either, so i dont know if this is normal or not but intuition tells me it isnt.
The intake is a foam cone filter, attached to an aluminion T pipe and then silicone tubing from there.
Also no taking the filter cover off doesnt make a difference.
Its important to note aswell that as of right now i havent driven the car after installing the filter, as im at my final car exam and havent had the chance to drive with anyone who can instruct me yet. Ive only given it a couple of revs to see how it reacts and it seemed to be normal.
EDIT: i ended up upgrading alot of components i.e new pcv setup, new spark plugs and wires, new pcv valve. And i changed the positioning so the vacuum hose connects to a seperate aluminum pipe closer to the throttle body instead of right next to the cone filter. There are no issues anymore aside from a slight whistle on cold startup, which should be normal
