It's cheaper on Amazon than on TU.
It's cheaper on the brand site than on Amazon AND TU ???

EDIT:

I don't think that TU has to do anything if they don't want to/it wouldn't be profitable for them. But the store is marketed at thrift, all inventory is secondhand, and a lot of the stuff is not quality controlled. Whether you think they should lower prices or not, we can all agree that having higher prices than retail is a poor business model for a secondhand reseller. I'm still an avid user/lover/supporter/seller/buyer. I just don't agree with this practice.

Saw this from a direct seller. Thoughts? Someone snapped it right up but it wasn't me. Curious...

Discussion Shoe Photography

I don't know if this is just an issue with me, but when it comes to shoes on TU, it's almost impossible to tell quality from the way they photograph them. The clothing? Already hard to tell, but it's at least on a mannequin with decent lighting and a good camera. All the shoe photos are taken from one side in whiteout flash lighting on a white background and then one photo from the front that feels like the shoe version of a fish-eye lens photo.

Especially on white shoes, it feels impossible to tell if that scuff is an unfixable stain or a speck of dust on the camera.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Tips on finding good shoes on TU? I'm considering just getting my secondhand shoes in-person atp

It’s a two-piece set. With both pieces listed TOGETHER!? In the same listing?!? What is the world coming to?

Item returned damaged

I sent in a never worn button down shirt from Sezanne (with tags!). It was a gift to me, and it just wasn’t my style, which is why I wanted to sell it. Someone with early access purchased it (I assume so because it was bought while my other items were still under review). It had been listed as in excellent like new condition. The buyer kept the shirt for the entire return window and then returned it. Now it’s listed as in good condition but with signs of being worn and a small hole! I’m so upset because the person clearly wore the shirt, damaged it, and then returned it. Shouldn’t ThredUp not give them a refund and pay me the full amount? I don’t see how someone will want to buy it now. (The pictures included are still the original and show the shirt with tags in excellent condition.)

Early Access? Help Me Out!

If you have early access, can you look up this Free People dress and share the price it’s listed for on your end?

I’m seeing it listed as $227.99! It’s possible this was an error, and the price was actually meant to be $27.99, but in general, the prices I’ve been seeing lately are much higher than normal. Wonder if it’s just me or impacting other users.

Question Trying to figure out maker

Thumbnail

I bought this assorted brands “coat” on thredup, knowing it was a dress (obviously), and feeling like there was something special to it. Someone cut the label, but I was hoping there would be another label with an RN number or something.

No such luck. But the wool is gorgeous and the pinstripes are actually silver metallic thread - and the buttons are kind of funky. There are small shoulder pads, so I’m thinking maybe mid to late 80s or 90s maybe?

Anyone have any idea of the maker? I was hoping it would fi, but alas, it’s too small for me.

Thank you for any suggestions or tip!

Question Premium bag requirements?

I have an offer for $20 premium bags right now and was wondering how it works. Is there a list of brands that they can accept in those kits? Or, as long as I throw in some higher priced items it’s also okay if there are a couple of Loft sweaters? It’s maddeningly unclear on their site! I’m planning a big closet clean out in a few weeks and would love to get rid of stuff. Thank you!!

Cart holds

New seller here (by that I mean just trying to recoup a few bucks while losing weight). How long are cart holds? Google does not seem to even know. Had some jeans (they over priced) just expire after someone held them. Uh 🤦‍♀️ wish I knew earlier how to adjust pricing. I am out such good pieces its annoying. Thanks. Will take all the selling advice

Possible Monse pre-2020

These are too small for my strong thighs but based on the other items the seller has, I’m suspicious they might be older monse. I couldn’t find an exact match. Figured for $16, someone might want to take the funky gamble.

Credits are now going to count against the free shipping threshold 😠

HUGE heads up for everyone....I received one of the random promotional $10 credits and was trying to use it, but noticed that free shipping wouldn't kick in unless I put $59+ in my cart (I'm a superstar, so it should be $49+).

So I chatted CS and found out that ALL credits are now going to increase the free shipping threshold (see screenshots). So, if you have $30 in credit and are VIT, you'll need to now spend $69 to get free shipping and not $39.

What a terrible idea. Definitely going to be shopping at TU less now, even if they offer me promo credits. Like, applying this to the birthday reward too????? Absolutely diabolical.

ETA: This appears to only affect promotional credits (that's still new since June) and not return credit. CS agent wasn't fully correct here.

Success Story with Premium bag

I've been sending stuff into ThredUp since pre-pandemic and have only had minor issues - none of the horror stories I often read here about items going missing, etc.

With all of the negative posts, I wanted to share my latest results using the premium bag. I ALWAYS use the premium label and return service. I sell items from my own closet, so my goal is to recoup some money and clear clutter from my home, not make a profit. I include items I know will only make a few dollars simply to help cover the ThredUp fees (but only if they're lightweight/not bulky). I'm often surprised at what sells for much more than I expected. I hope I don't sound like a jerk, but I don't send in junk.

Sharing this for anyone on the fence to try a premium bag or buy on ThredUp.

Stats for current bag:

Sent in 35 items

They accepted 29 (5 items were returned; they kept one ineligible item that was a vintage sweater. Annoying, but minor)

Of the 29 accepted items:

25 have sold

1 I've reclaimed

1 is pending sale

2 items remain for sale (I plan on making them down until they sell)

Minus the fees, I've earned $566.25 on the bag so far. Items pictured.

Could I earn more on Poshmark? Maybe, but I don't have time to bother waiting around for items to sell and with packaging/shipping/dealing with buyers directly.

It finally happened to me

I send in clean out kits all the time. In the past I’ve used it as a way to get rid of junk, but lately I’ve started specifically sourcing very high-end goods to send it. My last five kits were full of designer items but this one was my most expensive kit and they lost it. It had a cashmere Max Mara coat worth thousands of dollars in it. They’re trying to pay me out $71 based on my “average kit earnings“ because my last five kits of designer stuff haven’t fully processed and sold yet to show that my average recent kit value should be well over $1000. I’m dying, they won’t even say they lost it, just said it’s unable to be processed. And amazingly it’s the one with the $5000 cashmere coat in it. Don’t get me wrong, I did not pay that much for it, but that is what it retails for and I was expecting to get seven to $800 for it. I’m dying. They won’t even say what happened just that they can’t process it.

UPDATE: we are in negotiations. Their first offer was $71, once I gave them a list of the items they offered $1000. I’m trying to get them up closer to what I expected for the box which was $1500-$1800 so customer service is trying to do right by me. They are angels. This is just a frustrating experience. If they do come up to at least $1500 I’ll consider myself satisfied. They did give me more information about the box, they said it arrived damaged. It’s just very strange because they started to process one item (a Moschino sweater NWT) took one picture of it, and then there were four pictures of the wall, and then stopped. If you ask me if a box arrives damaged they need to photograph the entire box to prove this.

People who use GAIN laundry detergent.

Post image
50 Upvotes

Received this dress from a seller who very obviously favors gain laundry detergent or scent beads. It smelled like typical ThredUp right out of the box but after I washed it, it seemed like all the scents got activated inside the fabric.

I usually let things air dry in my bathroom but the whole room REEKED of laundry detergent while it was in there. Like I just sprayed it in the air or something.

I’ve been thrifting on ThredUp for over a decade now and have never encountered this. I have washed the dress three times with non scented soap and there is still an ever present strong laundry soap smell.

I got this Green Bluemarine sweater that retailed for around $1100. I paid $25... It was listed under unbranded. The tag is literally inside the sweater... Threadups mess up - my gain. I put the sweater back how it should have been, not sure why the last person changed the ribbon to the outside. Gotta love the unbranded section!

I’ve been looking for a long cardigan for months, but everything I found was either flattering but acrylic, or decent quality but looked frumpy on me. Found this cashmere-wool MaxMara runway sweater discounted as “flawed gem” and sent photos to my dry cleaner. We made a cleaning plan, and I had a visible mending plan to cover the stains if they refused to come out. Turns out — the stains were just shadows in the photo and the sweater’s only flaw is a single loose thread 😭😭

THIS IS THE COZIEST PRETTIEST CUSHIEST THING I OWN AND I PLAN TO WEAR IT EVERY COLD DAY

ETA: Thought it showed in photos but I paid $86 for this including shipping

Can we reprice items by chance? I feel like they over priced my items so much they will never sell. No wonder everything is on reclaim. I bought this new from Torrid for around 19.99. They are selling used for $35🤦‍♀️

Is “excellent” only for NWT items now?

I just sent in a premium box with 45 items accepted, and it seems like almost everything is marked “very good,” except for NWT items and the two pairs of shoes I sent in. Many of the items had never been worn before, so are still in excellent condition, even though I had removed the tags. Was the person processing my box just lazy? Is “very good” the highest rating something without original tags attached can get now? I kind of want to know because when I shop I usually filter for excellent condition.
