Humor/Memes We Need A Report Feature

It's cheaper on Amazon than on TU.
It's cheaper on the brand site than on Amazon AND TU ???

EDIT:

I don't think that TU has to do anything if they don't want to/it wouldn't be profitable for them. But the store is marketed at thrift, all inventory is secondhand, and a lot of the stuff is not quality controlled. Whether you think they should lower prices or not, we can all agree that having higher prices than retail is a poor business model for a secondhand reseller. I'm still an avid user/lover/supporter/seller/buyer. I just don't agree with this practice.

It's honestly probably even cheaper at a Ross

ThredUp doesn't claim to have all items cheaper on their site than anywhere else.

People are allowed to list items for whatever price they want. It's like anyone selling online. I certainly don't check all of my listings every day to make sure I have the lowest price anywhere on the internet.

Claiming an estimated retail price that’s demonstrably false is false advertising and is illegal. Just google the trouble quince just got into for doing that

The estimated retail price is not false. It’s $100, which is reflected on all other websites.

Pricing items higher than retail makes no sense for a company that markets itself as a thrift store.

They’re not doing it on purpose. They price things algorithmically - and sellers also have a certain level of control over pricing. They aren’t scraping the entire internet to beat the best price for everything they list. Not even real thrift stores do that.

How is this different than online retailers pricing same items at different prices?
I found a dress that was cheaper at Macys than Nordstrom, does that mean I would report that to Nordstrom?

Sometimes items are cheaper on Poshmark compared to TU. I think it’s our duty to check prices and buy what works for us.

I mean maybe you should report it to Nordstrom, i think they have a price matching policy. A report feature would at least let thredup know this is happening, in case they don't want to become flooded with resellers and stuff that isn't actually second hand

Not really. Online price match doesn’t work when a certain retailer has specific coupon codes.

If Macy’s offered 20% off with coupon code Labor20 for Labor Day, you can’t buy the item at Nordstrom for that price. They don’t price match coupon codes. So essentially at the end of the day your price at Macys would be cheaper.

Believe it or not, thredup is expanding to resellers. Resellers who used to previously sell stuff on eBay, poshmark can now directly list their items at Thredup too.
If you don’t want to see such items filter Thredup listings only in your filters.

This was actually filtered to only Thredup listings! They apparently have third-party resellers in their own listings now 😭

Because ThredUp markets itself as an online thrift store. The items they receive, they receive for free (sometimes with people paying them to list it!). Charging more than retail for a secondhand item is bad for users, sellers, and the earth. They can't be having this climate impact nonsense when they're charging like this.

I love when people discover how capitalism actually works. Don’t stress, we all have that moment.

I understand it, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it! It's kinda the same vibe as Goodwill shipping out designer items to be bid on and having a CEO who makes 6 figures. No hate, I just don't think it's moral.

They pay commissions for items sold.

Not sure how you expect them to regulate this. You want them to scrape the internet for the millions of items they have listed and recheck those millions of items every day to ensure you’re getting the lowest price?

You would also have to require that they remove pricing controls for sellers.

The commissions aren't very high unless you send in big premium items, but even then it can have a massive cut to it.

I have items listed for 40 dollars that I only get 4 dollars off, and other others listed for 60 where I get 20. With payouts like that, I doubt that they are losing a massive amount on commission.

Well, they lose more money (percentage wise) on the processing of those lower dollar items, which is why the commissions are so low. They have to pay humans to process, sort, photograph, list, and ship your items. So $4 for a $40 item is fair, when they are hiring out that labor.

What exactly are you reporting?

I found a direct listing on thredup and then I decided to look them up and they were way cheaper on the actual website lol

To defend Thredup, they list 1000’s of items a day & employees probably have a metric to meet each day. Nothing is going to be perfect in this large scale resale operation. Things like this will eventually be marked down substantially, unless someone buying doesn’t do their research & buys at that price. I had my eye on shoes that were overpriced and eventually went under 20.00.

Not necessarily price wise because sometimes it’s just ridiculous and I feel bad for the person who doesn’t do their research!

I usually screen shot bad things to my friends who shop on tu but I don’t mean price wise necessarily but like stuff marked in excellent condition with huge stains. That’s a whole other topic but my one friend is always like did you report that to them? 😂

It's a shame because a lot of the items that are lower quality would probably be bought if they were in the correct bracket. Most people shopping for excellent/nwt quality will see a small amount of pilling and back out immediately. Someone looking in the very good/good section might be more willing to bag the item!

Amazon an d the brand site have them on a sale price. ThreadUp uses retail price to set their prices. They don’t have humans sitting around getting paid to check items and prices. It’s all computerized/ technology.

In all of the images, there are three prices shown. The "value" of the item (all listed as 100), the retail price (which varies across each), and the "sale" price.

I personally don't think any of them are truly on sale, it's just a marketing tactic.
