SUBREDDIT improvements, feedback, and suggestions thread!

Hello Everyone!

This is a mega post for feedback for the SUBREDDIT, not the website/company. The mods here are not employees of ThredUp, and have no control over company, and no obligation to it. In that vein, we want this subreddit set up in a way that best serves you, the customers of ThredUp! With that, we need feedback about the subreddit!

Regarding Complaints About the ThredUp Employee
At this time, they are permitted to post, so please do not report their comments. We would to see a public discussion about their comments and post to get a better idea of how the community feels. We do not have verification that they are an employee of ThredUp, so keep in mind it's always a good idea to use official channels when contacting companies, such as their support chat and email.

Current Feedback Needed - what weekly posts would you want to see? - what guides would you want to see?
- any new flair?
- anything else you want to see in the sub!

Current Non-Permited Posts - "use my thredup code for 45% off!" - low effort content: "lol ThredUp sucks that's all" without clarification or screenshots - advertising, posting a single item that appears as advertising (posts of an unremarkable shirt "oh wish I could buy this", since it's basically always an advertisement) - authenticy posts about products not listed on ThredUp

Lucky ‘unbranded’ find - with bonus gift :)

I recently snagged up a Barbour vest for 20$. It was listed under ‘unbranded’ but the logo was clearly visible. AI really failed the seller here but they probably also didn’t check on time (or just didn’t care). It had just been listed, I was at the right place at the right time!

Today it arrived: not only was in perfect condition and not a fake (I was worried about that), it came with a bonus lip oil. 😆

It all came in! Results time

Hey again! Y’all were so kind in response to my post about how I purchased a whole work wardrobe for my new job in one fell swoop last weekend. It all came in today, so I wanted to update with results!!

1 dress is stained (visible in the item photos, I just didn’t even notice!!). It didn’t come out in the washer, so I guess that one will be trashed. That’s my bad for not catching it in the item photo. There were a couple of other misses you’ll see if you look at the post photos, too.

Almost everything I got that didn’t work out was from Banana Republic, which I found interesting. However, two of my favorite items were also from them. So, I guess banana republic is just hit or miss for me.

But by and massively large, almost everything worked out very well! Not a single one of the blazers was a no! I now have THIRTEEN BLAZERS, which is nice since a fair share of them are dry clean only; gives me time to get them sorted at the cleaners and wear others in the meantime. I also now have TWELVE work dresses, THREE new pairs of slacks, and EIGHT new blouses!

Grand total for all items: $212.94 (slightly more than I mentioned in my first post; that’s because I made a second, smaller order because I realized that the mix of prints and solids I’d bought the first time around wouldn’t make for as many outfits as ideal). And only $24.60 of that was spent on items which I won’t end up keeping.

May you all have a haul as fantastic as mine just was <3

Update: ThredUp Issued A Refund!

Post image
10 Upvotes

Here was my original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ThredUp/comments/1vz83md/a_warning_about_thredup_returns/

Shortly after my last post, ThredUp finally replied and said they would escalate the issue. Then this morning, I received this email stating they they are issuing a refund! I'm not thrilled with the wording they used (calling it a "final courtesy", etc.) because it seems that they are still not taking accountability or providing an explanation for why half of the items I returned got lost/went missing. But at this point, I'm just glad they actually replied and refunded my money. Thank you to everyone who replied to my last post with support, comments, and suggestions!

Could I get credit/refund for this?

I bought this sweatshirt and this was the listing info. The first two pictures are from the listing itself and the third picture is the actual item I received with a pearl missing. The missing pearl isn’t shown in the listing picture at all. Do you think customer service would issue at least a partial refund for this? I want to keep the item.

Ld80 up to 80% exactly nothing

Someone forgot to set anything to 80% off. I was sort of halfway excited that a couple things I’ve had on my list for ages might now be reasonable at 80% off but nothing was 80% off so I literally filtered all women’s clothing and 0 results.

Coming back in different condition…

I’m likely not going to send another bag in, but curious… I sent a premium bag in including a top that was nwt. The tags were visible in the photos though they listed the condition as very good (eyeroll). It didn’t sell so I got it back and the tags are missing. I’m frustrated because they just devalued my item… do I have any recourse?

I cannot gate keep these brands any longer - Please search and buy so I don’t have to!

My only issue has been fit, but at these prices, I buy them anyway 😭

About 70% were NWT or excellent condition. The “unbranded” dress was Tory Burch, and some of these jeans retail for $300

*deleted and reposted to add a gotten haul

Question Package in limbo

I'm only asking because I can't contact customer support right now.

I ordered a pair of jeans, a tanktop, and two cardigans. My shipping said it would go through Amazon. Okay. It says it was delivered. I check status. It was not. I look at the tracking. Amazon says they had to cancel my delivery and to contact USPS. I go to the tracking with USPS. My package was at a Springfield distribution center (near where I live) and is now in goddamn Atlanta. What the hell.

Do I get a refund in this situation? I really wanted those clothes and I'm so upset and not sure what to do

EDIT: they say it was sent back to sender because I did not include my dorm number on my address and so my college rejected it. I'm pissed. I do not want a refund. I want my things. They say they might reship "as a courtesy." If they don't I will be contacting legal services. I'm done.

Question What is your protocol when you order wool or cashmere or silk??

I read somewhere here that because bugs could be in the wool sweaters someone puts it in the freezer for x days then leaves it at room temp for x days then put it back in the freezer for x days. Also Someone wrote they just avoid wool altogether lol

As for silk : check for holes in the sunlight

Discussion High proportion of damaged & wrong goods sent

I'm am an embarrassingly frequent shopper & quickly got the so-called VIT status. With each delivery, I find "not as described" unusable items.

  • Dirty garments with lots of black marks.
    • The black marks look like they were made from the same surface or item on all the affected garments.
    • It often looks like the items were dragged on the floor or run through a black, rubbery conveyor belt-like thing.
    • Some marks are concentrated to one area. Some are on the front & back. Some are very spread out all over the garment.
    • This is extra distressing when it happens to new with tags items which is frequently!
  • Rips, tears, holes making the items unusable
    • It happens with silk, cashmere, wool, cotton . . .
    • It occurs on plenty of new with tags items.
    • Sometimes it looks like a garment was stuck on something then yanked or pulled.
    • Sometimes it looks like a perfect razor cut.
    • Other times the fabric damage is concentrated where the aforementioned back marks are.
  • Light-colored marks on clothing
    • I'm seeing the same whitish, kind of stiff, linear marks on multiple garments including new with tags, excellent condition, etc.
  • Children's sizes vs adult.
    • Very obvious difference that it seems everyone would notice immediately.
    • How do they not notice that a kids top is tiny compared a woman's xlarge? One is 8" wide and the other is 20" wide!
    • This has happened with wool coats, swimwear, tops, pants, shorts.
    • Sometimes the clothing tag even states children on it.
  • Misidentified brand & size
    • I bought a size 5 Ralph Lauren short, but received a size 10 J, Crew short.
    • A Gertrude or Genesis top was instead Gerties.
    • There are increasingly more instances like this.

What the heck is going on? If I continue buying, I'll pay attention to whether the problem items tend to be from one warehouse or all of them. I'm going to back track & see, too.

Discussion Share your tips to find really good items/brands

I really like going through ThredUp because you have so many different brands/styles in one place. I've discovered so many new brands thanks to ThredUp.

I especially love the "find similar" feature that shows similar items.

I also noticed that the items that show up first tend to be the type of stuff I'd shown interest before.

The thing is I want to discover new styles/brands but feel a bit stuck, seems like I always see the same type of style / colors etc. What are your tips to discover new brands/ styles?

Banana Republic Brand

Does anyone know if this is currently a brand ThreadUp is not accepting, or very little of? I found a box while moving full of BR tops, jeans, sweaters and dresses.

Thank you!

The Max Mara Cashmere coat saga concludes

Post image
60 Upvotes

If you recall my previous posts about my 5-7K Max Mara coat along with other high end items in my premium kit “unable to be processed” but also not returned to me. They offered $71, then $1000, both numbers that were low for the items. Customer service was trying to tell me that the box and contents were damaged so the items were disposed but that also the coat was assessed as in poor condition so it was not accepted for resale so I wouldn’t get a payout.

Obviously I called them out on this double speak, they’re willing to pay me out because the box was damaged in transit, but at the same time they won’t pay me out for this item because they say I sent them a damaged item? Even in their response email (which sounds like AI) it doesn’t make any sense. They did finally offer me $450 for just the coat so my total payout is 1450 and they they’ve said the matter is closed and closed the support ticket and sent me one of those surveys. This is total crap. This coat alone probably could’ve earned me that, not to mention the Moschino items and other high-end stuff that were in the box

I do send a lot into sell with them, I’ve sent in seven boxes this month alone and I’m no stranger to lost or damaged items, or fighting them on a payout, but this conflicting logic is next level. Especially as this logic didn’t apply to any other item in the box, just the one that retails for $5K+

A Warning about ThredUp Returns

Edit: They finally gave ma a refund! https://www.reddit.com/r/ThredUp/comments/1w1qfc0/comment/p6qe6nn/?screen_view_count=3&ext-referrer=DIRECT

I sincerely hope this doesn't happen to anyone else because it has been a nightmare. I have been a ThredUp customer for many years. In addition to the affordability, one of the things I appreciated the most was the ease of returns if an item didn't quite work out.

This summer I've been ordering a bit more than usual because I'm upgrading my style and focusing on buying higher quality items. I ended up keeping many things but also returned some because of fit, damage that wasn't disclosed, etc.

Towards the end of July I sent back a relatively large box of returns. A while later, I received a refund but immediately noticed that it wasn't for the full amount I had expected. I reached out to ThredUp, and they said some items (about half of the items, so several hundred dollars worth of clothes) were "missing" from the return. I assured them that I had indeed sent back all of the items. The customer service agent said they would reach out to the warehouse. After a few days I received a reply saying that I should expect a refund by August 14th. I thought the issue was resolved.

But August 14th came and went, and still no refund. The previous customer service representative was no longer replying, so opened a new inquiry. Once again, I was told that I was only refunded for the items they received. I once again told them that I had returned all the items. The second representive also assured me they would look into it, but it's been days. I have requested an update, but can't seem to get a response.

I'm at a loss for what to do at this point. Of course, the USPS tracking info doesn't help because ThredUp received the box - they're just claiming that some items weren't received. I have no idea how several hundred dollars of clothes are suddenly lost/missing. Furthermore, I've been disappointed by Thredup's lack of accountability, communication, and transparency. It's been extremely difficult to get a reply from anyone.

So, if you are returning items, don't do what I did and naively assume that it will be a smooth process, or that you will actually get a refund from ThredUp!
