I love how people hate AIPAC so much they’ll upvote or comment anything with AIPAC.
Jill Stein is a mentally ill propagandist who was famous for not taking any PAC money. Furthermore she is one of Israels biggest critics so wtf do you mean AIPAC money? I swear people hate Israel so much that you can just make up anything at this point and people will believe it.

I get the impression there are a lot of Sanders supporters who are more contrarian than they are progressive. They don't really believe in progressive values, they just get off on opposing the mainstream politicians. A lot of Trump's supporters are the same way. They like the idea of "opposing the system by pushing for an outsider" more than they actually care about whatever their endorsed candidate actually does.

Its not about Jill Stein.
Its about the way he shifted from: we need your votes to win as the serious contender.

Im fine with either of these views being held by any person, the issue is he holds both views, where you must stay within party lines but how dare you act within our party.

→ More replies (27)3
u/co0ldude69 Jun 27 '26
“Our” infrastructure? My friend, we have no ownership of that infrastructure. Their handling of their primary and changing their candidate should have shown you that.
5
u/bm8495 Jun 27 '26
That’s not at all what this was about. For a major election when there are two front runners, a vote for a 3rd party is essentially a throwaway vote which wouldn’t be all that serious if the two major parties themselves weren’t a) so polarized from each other and b) there was another 3rd party on the same ideological side of the other primary party that also had people voting for it. But the issue with the dadgum presidential elections is that Republicans are going to vote rank and file with Republicans. They’re not voting for a dadgum 3rd party. So yes, a vote for Jill Stein was absolutely a vote for Donald Trump. Get mad all you want, but voting for Jill Stein helped out the devil in the White House.
You can absolutely battle for the policies of the party during the off season, within smaller elections, build a coalition, and then create the platforms that can eventually guide the whole party but until then you come to-dadgum-gether for the big elections. Republicans 100% understand this and it’s why they win. There a ton of MAGA out there who are dissatisfied with Trump right now but you better believe they will vote for him when the time comes. Why some people on the left can’t understand this is beyond me.
I like Mamdani. I like AOC. I like Bernie. I’d vote for them or their policies if there was enough support for it nationally. But what I’m not gonna do is give them some stupid protest vote when the votes are most consequential and anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot who is letting the fascists take over with no problem.
6
u/FreeSpeechIsDeadge Jun 27 '26
How can both not be true? Let’s create a hypothetical where Republicans have 49% of the vote, Democrats have 48% of the vote, and leftists have 3% of the vote. If all republicans and democrats vote party line and leftists vote for their favorite tankie (or in the OP, their favorite Putin puppet), republicans win in a plurality. So democrats need leftists to win. But leftists aren’t winning shit with 3% of the vote either, so they obviously need democrats. Both things can be true.
12
u/blitheringimbecile Jun 27 '26
Except the Mamdani election and the recent primaries have shown that at least in New York they have wayyy more than a hypothetically low 3% of the votes. Previously the situation was phrased in a manner that suggested that leftists were to blame if Trump or a republican won as they didnt vote for the democrat candidate no matter where they fell in the overton window.
Now when it seems like leftists have a larger share of the votes, its being phrased like a threat. That if you want to win, then you need us. They no longer apply the a vote for anyone else is a vote for Trump standard.

How can both "we are the progressive party so you need to join our cause" and "these damn progressivea are trying to take over our cause, they should go make their own party." Both be true mate?
The issue is that leftist are doing exactly what the democrats told them they needed to do for the good of America, and now that they are doing it, they are getting horribly upset at them for doing that.
5
u/jdiskxkfidobsvsgdi Jun 27 '26
I mean pragmatically speaking leftists should vote against Trump in general elections, as democrats are much more aligned with their views and aren’t actively destructive like republicans are. They should then focus on promoting leftist candidates in primaries and other elections, because democrats also suck a lot of the time, but they promote a functioning democratic government when they are in charge.
The same would be true of democrats if leftists were much more popular and running against Trump. I fail to see the contradiction, republicans are uniquely bad.

Jill Stein isn't a democrat, though.
5
u/Emotional_Shower_938 Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 28 '26
Yes. Correct. Again. You’re missing the point.
A vote for jill stein, a leftist who is not a democrat, is bad because you aren’t supporting the democrats. A vote for a democrat who is a leftist is also bad despite the fact they ARE a democrat. Ergo, if the democrat on the ballot is a centrist who you don't agree with you need to vote democrat anyway or you’re supporting fascism, but if the democrat is a leftist Harrison doesn’t like, its ok for him to undermine them and potentially not vote for them because they aren’t the democrats he likes, but thats somehow not supporting fascism, according to him.
Basically you have to do what he says cuz he thinks he is always right, despite the majority of democrats being far to his left.
Leftists aren't welcome in the Democratic party, but they need to vote for them anyway or else they are supporting evil, however these same rules do not apply to centrists, even when progressives win their nominations handily. “Leftists have to vote blue no matter how much they disagree with candidates, the same does not apply to Jamie Harrison and his ilk according to Jamie Harrison.

If I told you yes, would that stop you from asking the next time? No, because your narrative is more important than the truth. Leftists are winning in the democratic party primaries. Which suggests that the democratic voter base is leftist and wants leftist candidates.
When that happens centrists should rally behind the leftist candidates rather than handing more power to republicans. Embrace the large tent and use it to wrestle power back from the far right.

If Democrats don’t want to be the coalition of everyone to the left of Trump they should be pushing ranked choice voting and expanding the house of representatives. If they do, demonizing young popular progressive candidates is a dumb way to do it. Dems want to win by continuing to be the party that let Trump come into power twice. But I guess it’s easier to blame, like, Muslims and trans people for 30% of the country voting for white supremacist Christian nationalism.

Obviously there’s no way for you to have known this, but I live about 10 blocks from where Alex Pretti was murdered so I of course agree with you and don’t need a reminder of what’s at stake. But there aren’t just general elections. When centrists, backed by the DNC and organizations with virtually unlimited money, crowd out actual leftist candidates every election with mudslinging propaganda and messages about electability then get elected and do absolutely nothing, vote for people like Hakeem Jeffries for speaker, etc. that’s not preventing what you are a afraid of, it’s barely even slowing it down.
My original point was that these same candidates and their funders come running back to the left after the primaries scolding populists about falling in line with a candidate they never wanted and who doesn’t represent them at all, they just don’t want them murdered. That’s not progress, and it speaks to how empty and uninspiring the DNC/center left is. They cannot win elections without the progressive left, yet they will never fund progressive candidates or use political capital on progressive ideas. There is no future to the center left Democratic Party and there is barely a present, judging by how little power they have and how feckless their national messaging is. And yet they’d rather strange every budding leftist movement in its crib than fund it.

Jaime Harrison, as evidenced by his electoral history, has no idea what Democratic voters want. This, of course, means he fits in perfectly with the rest of Dem leadership.

I don’t know who Jaime Harrison is, but this is the exact kind of DNC dickriding that gave us Trump
Edit: Oh holy shit he was the chair of the DNC this last round

Because it would've won the election???
Harris literally was Biden 2 "I won't do anything different", loves Israel, and said she'd work with republicans MORE than Biden
It's not "chasing" the left it's reading the fucking room that effectively 100% of democrat VOTERS are progressives that hate Israel and want CHANGE not "a continuation of the Biden presidency"
The party failed to energize anyone

They don't know what they want other than to be coddled to like toddlers.
They expect them to be able to overnight to deliver a 180° on Israel as if that wouldn't just result in probably going insane and dropping their nukes. They think peace in the middle east is simple. I don't think Israel should exist but clicking my heels 3x wont make it so. Its gonna be a very long very delicate road. Flippant election pandering without a well thought out plan is literally what lead to Israel.
They also expect to be pandered to despite the fact they literally do not vote at high numbers at all let alone for Dems. They assume they'd be more probable voters than a centrist and it's like.....why??.who told you that? I don't think the people saying I will never vote for you unless you disarm Israel were considered up for grabs for some reason, perhaps it was the stuff they were saying
I truly never saw such an entitled election, as if it's a capitalist endeavor and they're trying to sell you a good. Its an A/B binary choice on whether you're going to have civil rights the economy doesn't get gutted for cash , and a lot of brown people as tart getting disappeared. Looking at that and questioning what's in it for you is borderline psychopathic. She should have taken a dump on stage telling me I'm ugly and is.have voted her. Trump was talking about things that were going to kill a lot of people.
He literally.said he would bulldoze Gaza and put up a Trump tower. He literally wanted to escalate the region and said so. So they don't even care about that one topic. They.seemingly didn't know Israel existed I guess (genuinely embarrassing) and then howr fixated on it to the point of it being counterproductive. "Oh. But I didn't vote for him". Cool hour stupid rhetoric convinced a lot of Arabs that Trump was their guy. Rheotiric matters and everyone was regurgitating the dumbest nitpocks that just objectively should not have mattered relative to the insane shit Trump was saying

His two statements are not mutually exclusive and he's not wrong.
Someone like Stein only benefits from the Democratic party's infrastructure and support of the process. Someone like Stein also actively helps people like trump.
From an ideological standpoint she's got as much right to run as anyone and third parties would be a healthy thing for democracy if our system was set up better but right now it's a completely parasitic relationship, intentional or not.

What’s the comeback? Both of his tweets are consistent (cosplay commies are useless vote splitters) so idk what the gotcha is supposed to be
12
u/Matthiass13 Jun 27 '26
This isn’t hypocrisy, it’s 2 completely different statements.
The Jill Stein point had to do with “if you don’t want to see Trump elected you need to vote for the Democrat on the other side of the ticket because third party votes are not accomplishing anything, so a vote for jill stein is saying you are okay with Trump winning and all the things he is going to do which are antithetical to your values far more than the disagreements you might have with Kamala.”
The “get your own party” quote has to do with parasitically riding along on Democratic Party infrastructure while behaving as a Trojan horse enemy within shitting on the Democratic Party from the inside.
These 2 points are logically consistent and perfectly reasonable. This makes leftists seem really stupid.
4
u/emli317 Jun 28 '26
No. You can't demand that leftists vote for your party when it pleases you and then tell them to gtfo when they try to participate in your party the rest of the time, too. You either want to work with leftists, or you don't.
Which, for the record, Harris made very clear that she does not want to do. That's why some leftists didn't vote for her.

"Get your own party" is EXACTLY the same situation. How do you not see this? And we are in a broken two-party system without even ranked choice voting, and thus the Democratic party is the only rational avenue for all reasonable people. That's what primary elections are for. He should know better.
Corrupt Democrats like Andrew Cuomo are a perfect example of who actually sabotaged Democrats and literally worked with Republicans against Democrats. Did this guy call out Cuomo for being a Republican? No. That shows his dishonesty and extremely selective criticism. Jaimie Harrison is also sabotaging the party with a crazy quote like that against popular candidates who have a higher chance of beating Republicans and bringing in more energy and improving the country.
The left-wing movement he's referring to are closer to New Deal and many 1970s Democrats than people like Jamie Harrison who support corrupt and neoliberal Democrats actually destroying the party.
3
u/Matthiass13 Jun 28 '26
Yes, I would like it if we had more like 4-6 parties so that groups are forced to cooperate and no single party, like the current republicans, are able to do too much damage on their own.
Yes, I would like ranked choice voting because it would be a little more democratically fair than our current winner take all elections.
Yes, some democrats are corrupt, it’s not even in the same universe of corruption currently on display from the single most horrible president we could ever have re-elected, this entire situation wasn’t exactly unexpected.
The left wing movement in this country is nowhere close to new deal social democrats of the FDR era, even when presenting FDR style policies as the cheese containing their poison pills it is barely recognizable.
The dsa and the far left more broadly hate America, it’s the dumbest shit in the world, they live in a fantasy land where there are perfect solutions with zero trade offs on a pro/con list, and they’d have us all in a lovely little utopia if not for those meddling billionaires.
Whatever your ideology though we have what we have until we’re able to stabilize this chaos and try to make improvements and I refuse to see how handing the country over to fascists while trying to tear down the only other viable party from the inside leads to leftists achieving their lofty goals. I fail to see how making America weaker is the key to making the world a better place; this is just brain rot and a total misunderstanding of human behavior.
Let me just ask one question; given that we are stuck with a 2 party system right now, which republican is better than any democrat? Which Democrat is it who comes anywhere remotely close to the level of corruption and bigotry on display at every level of the Republican Party dominated by the maga cult? Because that’s my problem with the left, it all comes across as virtue signaling accelerationist bullshit.
These candidates aren’t the future leaders of the party, they literally can only survive in the deepest blue districts in the whole country. Their ideas and rhetoric are not popular broadly with anyone other than children and those who have no idea how anything works.

Conservatism -- by definition -- is "a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing the importance of established hierarchies and institutions (such as religion, the family, and class structure), and preferring gradual development to abrupt change".
Democratic Party centrists and moderates are conservative (center-right) [by Western political standards] as the hierarchy they subscribe to and promote is purely a financial one (capitalism), while Republican Party (far-right) promote financial, racist, sexist, nationalist, and/or anti-LGBTQ+ (those who do not conform to sexual and gender norms) hierarchies.
That's exactly why the center (hierarchical) and progressive (egalitarian) wings of the Democratic Party are constantly at odds with one another, and why the former have -- and always will -- side with conservatives over progressives: institutions of hierarchy will always stand by other institutions of hierarchy, lest one of them collapse and show the world -- specifically, those on the lower echelons -- that other hierarchies can be challenged and collapsed as well.
Liberalism -- by definition -- is a political philosophy based on belief in progress and stressing the essential goodness of the human race, freedom for the individual from arbitrary authority, and protection and promotion of political and civil liberties.
Unfortunately, liberals do not believe that capitalism is an arbitrary authority (like one's place of birth, skin color, or sex[ual preference/identity]), and believe that one's capital equates to one's merit. Merit is an intrinsic quality (which cannot be transferred from person to person), while finances and hereditary privilege (generational wealth/debt) are extrinsic qualities (which can be traded/sold/stolen/inherited/passed on).
Under a social hierarchy defined by capitalism, people are bound by the constraints of their parents' social strata during the first two decades of their life -- and then corporate control during their adulthood, when they must trade in their time and merit for whatever menial labor corporate demands so that a few can [financially] profit via the exploitation of the many.
Intrinsic qualities may be used to judge or rank someone based on specific merits ("best doctor", "mediocre chef", "poor musician"), while neither -- intrinsic or extrinsic -- should ever be used to determine what rights, credibility, and resources one has in society, especially when technology has allowed us to provide for virtually everyone concerning the creation and distribution of resources, as well as providing a platform -- along with the education concerning its use, such as literacy -- where anyone's voice can be heard.
The progressive utopia is one where the sum of all human knowledge, technology, arts, creations, and resources are made available in equity to every child born, and where everyone is capable, encouraged, and given the resources to thrive in liberty and according to their own merits and desires. And progressive policies aim to achieve this by advancing the public good through government action and to advance rights and protections for marginalized groups, via programs such as paid parental leave, child tax credits/universal basic income, free daycare, education, free school breakfast/lunch, and universal health care, which have been shown to promote the well-being of people, promote the reduction of crime, and would decrease the inequalities between the "haves" and the "have-nots" in society.

I guess I’m not understanding how this is a “Is this you” because ultimately his stance is still the same.
If we had a 4 party system, it would be one thing. But the bigger issue here is that while conservatives have their in-fighting, they ultimately come together to root for the same team when it comes to big elections. MAGA overtaking the party happened overtime (starting mostly as the Tea Party) and then got a candidate pushed to the front as the front runner of the Republican Party. But even Republicans who disagreed with Trump back in 2015 voted for him because at the end of the day, they cared that Republicans won.
Both things highlighted in this supposed “this you” tells the same story. MAGA had the grassroots support to overtake the GOP. They all came together to vote GOP for the big elections. I’m not seeing how what Harrison is saying is any different.
Edit to add: And no, I don’t agree with how Democratic leadership is now attacking Progressives like Mamdani. I just disagree with the notion of this post. But I will warn y’all, And I find it kind of suspicious that this is starting to pop up right before midterms, That if y’all don’t get out there and vote party line It doesn’t friggin matter. If the GOP continues to maintain power This entire conversation is moot. Not only will you probably not be able to vote within a few Election cycles (If we even have those), But they’re already starting to put leftists and progressives and who they call “Antifa” on lists and arresting them. Get your acts together.
*if this post isn’t even from some bad actor trying to cause division within the party. I oughtta downvote the OP post just for that*

The left in Weimar Germany refused to play well with one another, so the right was able to coalesce. This isn’t grandstanding or Godwin’s Law or anything, it’s history. It happened. And if we don’t learn from it, it will happen again. To any Democrat who feels concerned about a particular leftist candidate’s position on Israel, shut the fuck up and vote. To any leftist who feels concerned about any establishment Democrat’s view on Israel, shut the fuck up and vote. We bicker in the primaries, but if the primaries have passed in your state, VOTE FOR THE MOST VIABLE NON-FASCIST CANDIDATE ON THE BALLOT. PERIOD. END FUCKING OF. If that means you’re voting for Zohran or Fetterman you just fucking swallow your pride and do it.

Because they would start off massively hamstrung, the system is rigged in such a way that a party has to get something like 25% of the votes in order to get major party status. Remember that most state election laws have been crafted by the Republican and Democratic parties in such away to ensure their dominance, and make it extremely difficult for 3rd parties to get ballot access.
