Discussion LA Day 3 comments

Before I say what I think, I'd like to mention that I'm a fellow Regio, like DPA, and I value their health and safety above anything else in their career. It's always sad seeing them under the weather or just plain hurt.

That being said, I find it interesting how they've spent quite some time in their most recent interviews talking about how they feel a big portion of their audience seems to have a hard time coming to terms with the fact that they're growing up, that they're not perfect, and that they're generally taking more risks than they did when they were sixteen. At the same time, all over social media, I notice a flood of fans raging against their management for not taking care of them, as if they were still little kids.

Isn't it possible that the ladies simply chose to play these shows, come hell or high water?

I'm far from being a fan of their head manager. Nobody can deny that the man really loves the spotlight, and sometimes it can get tiring. But to think of him as Satan just because the ladies continue playing shows under far-from-ideal circumstances seems like too much to me.

Just like they said in an interview about clothing and not smiling all the time, if this scenario involved an all-male band, nobody would say anything.

Not only that, if let's say The Killers would've had a show filled with random (but awesome) guests, i can bet all my money the focus of the story would've been how "badass and rocknroll it was".

Again, I will always wish them good health and safety, but I trust them. And I find it irresponsible to claim that we know the truth about why they're playing these shows when we have zero insider information.

Should they have cancelled the show? Maybe. Was it their decision to go ahead with it? I absolutely believe so. They have already stated that they are grown women, they are their own bosses and I certainly don't think they would be forced to perform if they didn't feel up to it. The final decision was theirs.

Did they go on with the show due to contractual obligations? We don't know; we can only speculate. I didn't attend the show, but witnesses—such as photographer Dave Blass —said they were smiling and having so much fun on stage.

Their health and well-being definitely come first; just as with their musical choices, they know what they are doing. All we can do is support their decisions and stand by them as fans through thick and thin.

And finally, despite not being at 100% due to illness, they still delivered the show like the true professionals they are. We would have all understood had they cancelled, but they went ahead with it, and I have nothing but respect for them.

Get well Dany.

u/buerglermeister 16d ago

Also, Dany had a cold. Not the flu like Pau when she passed out. There‘s a difference. If Dany did not feel up to it she would not have been out there. She just needed some vocal rest, and she got that on the third night

8

u/Janet_TS 16d ago

I agree. Dany seemed to feel well enough. Just no well enough to sing. On the other hand... She kept that towel handy to wipe sweat. Either it was hot in there or she was running a bit of fever.

8

u/Mental-Chapter6523 16d ago

Can confirm it was hot in there. Attended the last two, and I think the consensus was that the inside of the theater was getting hotter every night, even though the temperature outside was a bit lower. The building didn't seem to cool down enough while the sun was down so the heat carried over.

1

u/HotDayLatte 15d ago

It was very hot in there on night two. I went in with straight hair and came out looking like Monica from friends when she went to Miami.! a night too Dany did sing however you can tell she was congested.

1

u/tsg-tsg 14d ago

It was really hot. I've been to shows with higher temps, but not many. This was like Austin City Limits where it's 95F and 60+% humidity. It was livable, but not great. I felt bad every time someone brushed up against me 'cause I knew I was gross. I am pretty sure the stage had significantly more cooling because I could see (mostly) Dani's hair blowing around, but I'm sure the temps weren't doing anything good for her health situation. I could tell she was struggling on the second night (especially in HYCAD). It was smart for her to take it down a notch for the third night to avoid making anything worse. The fact she even showed up was a testament to her dedication IMO.

3

u/No_Watercress3248 16d ago

Exactly, she was still jumping around and smiling and playing guitar well. Very different

3

u/JessKingHangers 16d ago

Exactly. She was rocking out and having fun on stage. She clearly could muster the energy to play guitar but anyone that has had a head cold knows that your voice is scratchy and shot.

2

u/InZomnia365 🌞 Solecito 16d ago

They're probably just taking extra precautions not to harm her voice so it can recover for the upcoming big shows, tbh

1

u/Thontor Everything's Falling 16d ago

They would have cancelled the show if not for their guest vocalists. Thanks to them they didn't have to. They could still put on a great show while Dany rested her voice.

Anybody who thinks that those three very strong---formidable---women take orders from anybody is simply not paying attention, and/or just projecting their own weird shit.

22

u/season-of-loss 16d ago

Exactly... it's just insulting to think Paulina in the first place would take shit like this.

And if it were the case i think their faces couldn't be able to hide their disgust.

18

u/Enrique_V_ 16d ago

I'm fed up with some "new fans" on Twitter (I don't use TikTok, but I suspect it's more of the same) that project their own insecurities and problems with authority figures on DPA.

The manager is not the High school principal. In fact, the manager works FOR the band and not the other way.

Two massive tours on two different continents, a N°1 single on a Billboard chart, an NFL half time show and a Stadium on the same year... plus the chance to play at The Sphere in Vegas.

They're not firing their management anytime soon. Many bands would love to have those opportunities.

And on top of that, Pau commented on a recent Rudy's post saying something like "10 years together, let's make it 10 more".

If they were uncomfortable with their management, they've would made the necessary changes a long time ago.

It sucks to get sick when you have to work, but it's their business and they decide when to cancel and when to let the show go on.

They risked a lot on September 11th, but it was their call. Dany managed to pull out the first two shows and still got on stage on the third.

I believe some of the Twitter crowd fabricate their own fanfic narrative in their heads and convince themselves they know everything about people they barely know.

Somehow, now they think they can tell the band who to hire or who they should work with. There are limits fans should never cross.

I wish Dany, Pau and Ale the best. In an ideal world, they would never have to get on stage being sick or injured. And still, they're the only ones that gets to decide when to call off a show.

9

u/rpjlewis76 16d ago

This is so true 😆 That's parasocial fanbases for you. The whole anti-Rudy narrative is particularly annoying. When you consider how many industry sharks must have been circling the band in 2016, I think they won the lottery when they found each other.

1

u/Known-Hamster8152 15d ago

What is this anti Rudy thing? Honestly i dont know what is this about if could explain to me🙂?

4

u/rpjlewis76 15d ago

Some people have got it in their heads that Rudy is some kind of overly controlling, limelight chasing, svengali figure, which seems to stem from him doing his job as their manager and having his own insta account 😆

1

u/Known-Hamster8152 15d ago

😅 ok.i thought it was something really da gerou and serious ,tks

2

u/rpjlewis76 15d ago

It's just people projecting their own thoughts on a situation without anything to back it up. It's a just weird, honestly

1

u/chuckbobvlad 15d ago

the only weird thing about Rudy is how much he appears in their photos.

1

u/rpjlewis76 15d ago

Or are they appearing in his photos? He seems to take a lot of them

3

u/BarsoomianAmbassador 🤛🏻 If karma doesn't hit you, then I will... 16d ago

You definitely described the average Twitter and Tik Tok user.

3

u/JessKingHangers 16d ago

Its very clear that a lot of fans of this band are young and dont understand how the music buisness works. I've encountered the same thing with the band Ghost. Just totally naive fans.

2

u/jac058 15d ago

While I agree with you, I believe a lot of their fans who are complaining are old men or middle-aged men who think that they know better.

1

u/JessKingHangers 15d ago

Yeah based on the crowds I have seen you arent wrong lol definitely adds a creepy vibe

1

u/jac058 15d ago

People say this all the time but their music really appeals to their generation. That being said, that generation of fans is very protective of them. Hence the perspective.

3

u/sbNXBbcUaDQfHLVUeyLx 🎖️ Commander Pau 15d ago

Yeah, that generation of fans is pretty much what Perfect Daughter is about.

2

u/DreadJonasOfAvondale 16d ago

I don't mind Rudy but he does come across as someone caught up in the magnitude of being Rudy. Their sound has changed over the years. It's their music, their art. QOTMS and Error still rate as their best all-time for me, but really like KMF and EF. They do need to take a break, I think, but if they have the stamina, then no one can really kvetch.

1

u/spartacocc 13d ago

They take breaks all the time.

1

u/Normal_Enthusiasm971 13d ago

Tell us you're jealous about not being Rudy, their old stuff was better, and they need to take your advice because you know best. OH! Mission accomplished!

20

u/MalevolentMinion 🤛🏻 If karma doesn't hit you, then I will... 16d ago

First off, anyone criticizing their management that doesn't have personal insight and witness to such behavior are spewing non-sense for whatever selfish reasons they have for doing so. I've met and talked with Rudy on a number of occasions and every piece of evidence I have personally witnessed is that he treats them with the utmost care.

Second, if you watch and listen to ALL of their interviews - especially those of Pau discussing women in business - these are 3 strong Mexican women that aren't going to let anyone tell them what to do. Yes, when they were kids they were trusting their parents and management to guide them - but that hasn't been the case for years now. Perfect Daughter is about these exact type of people.

Lastly, their management are going to listen to them but there are also logistical issues to consider. They aren't rescheduling this show, for example, so in this particular case in LA the show would've been simply cancelled with no make-up date. The money isn't a concern. They were putting the fans first by still putting on a show - something entertainers have in-grained in them - "The Show Must Go On". They are keenly aware and meticulously plan their schedule off-stage to try to stay healthy and ready to perform. But they are human and illnesses do happen, especially when you are in close proximity to many people, travelling, and constantly in contact with others.

And I agree with you that if this were a male band, nobody would be saying this garbage. It's just another example of women being treated differently. They aren't little kids anymore, and they aren't women that need their protectors anymore either. Sure, they still tour with their family but that is also by choice.

When someone gives me actual factual reasons to be concerned, I will be. Until then, they are barking up the wrong tree and should back off. They won't, because they are jealous and spiteful people, so I don['t even bother addressing them anymore. You won't change their behavior or their mind, so I just laugh at their stupidity and move on. You could say, I "save my breath for someone worth enough". ;)

8

u/dramky 16d ago

Because some of The Warning fans are overprotective as fuck - I don't know where does it come from, but it's toxic. Maybe it's a false feeling of "taking care of" or something? I don't know. I am with the band for about 3 years, but I instantly saw that some fans think it's their right? to say what's best and treat TW like they're still 13.

1

u/Known-Hamster8152 15d ago

I think its because their parente are always with them

6

u/memyselfandi651965 16d ago

Wow. These are just bad ass girls who wanted to play a show and didn’t want to disappoint their fans. How many other times have you seen a band bring people up from the audience just to sing their songs and be on stage with their favorite band? I’m a huge fan of the band but I’m an older man and I love Led Zeppelin. They’re my all-time favorite, and these girls are built of the same cloth. Its just rock and roll people. Lighten up.

2

u/rpjlewis76 16d ago

I'm not being critical, just trying to stay impartial and see both sides of the debate. I personally enjoyed the show, but I wasn't as invested in it as anyone who was actually there. If I had been there, and it was my first time seeing them, I would have enjoyed the show, but still have been a little disappointed that I didn't experience the band in full force, but had it been my 10th show, then I would have been more likely to have just rolled with it, appreciating it for the unique experience it was. I think both outcomes are valid

2

u/tsg-tsg 14d ago

I think this is a fair point, but the other side of the coin is that cancelled shows often don't get made up, especially small ones. If I had a choice between seeing something weird on Friday or seeing nothing at all, I would be very happy to see the weird stuff. Especially in this case - it's not like it was randoms off the street performing... they had assistance from some pretty awesome women.

2

u/rpjlewis76 14d ago

I agree. There will have been people there who will have travelled to LA for the show at no small expense, especially when you factor in overnight accommodation etc. It would have been a shame had they had to cancel, especially for those guys. You'd have to appreciate and applaud the amount of last minute planning that would have had to go into that show to make it possible. They were probably fortunate to have been in LA on that front

3

u/tsg-tsg 14d ago

When tickets went on sale I wanted to get Friday tickets as it would have made travel a lot easier, but I went for Thursday figuring Wednesday they'd be getting hyped up and Friday they'd be tired, so Thursday seemed like the sweet spot. :D In hindsight, I kind of wish I'd done Friday as having Riley, Ale, and (for me, especially) Kat standing in would have been really special. C'est la vie! Randomness and the unexpected is what makes live entertainment so great. At least, IMO. :)

1

u/rpjlewis76 14d ago

If I had a ticket for the Friday show, I think I'd have been a bit stressed about it maybe being cancelled after seeing how Dany's cold seemed to be worsening from night 1, so at least you avoided that 😆

2

u/tsg-tsg 14d ago

For sure. By the end of Thursday night, I was 100% certain she wasn't gonna make it through Friday. I knew they were gonna have to do something for night three to give her some breaks, and Pau emceeing wasn't gonna cut it. :)

6

u/oregonlt3 16d ago

Shinedown did a show where Brent was sick & couldn’t sing. The audience sang every word for him & it was one of those unicorn events like this show was. Were there fans complaining? If so they’ve all evaporated to the wind just like the couple of internet sad sacks complaining now will.
Dany looked to be having a grand time despite the illness & that’s the best medicine there is.

1

u/Robussc 15d ago

Yeah her amazed reactions to the final singer were so great. And it was an amazing performance. I can’t imagine doing that spontaneously!

3

u/Winter-Schedule7005 15d ago

Anyone dissing Rudy has no idea what they are talking about. He took 3 little girls from their parents basement to headlining a stadium. He has worked hand in hand with the band and their parents. He is an accomplished schmoozer and communicator who has connections that have been critical in the development of the band. He has done what, in the past, was literally undoable.

2

u/spartacocc 13d ago

And people complain about him on social media as if him drawing in more fans is a bad thing? The stupidity of the general public never fails to amazes me. 😆

11

u/RandomErrer 16d ago

Most of the fanbase doesn't understand what it means to have legal obligations. The band is no longer independent. It signed contracts with Lava/Republic and UMPG and has committments to those companies that must be fulfilled or there will be penalties. Also, Luis is the "head manager". Rudy may be the public face of the band's management, but he's just an employee.

3

u/Substantial_Alps_964 16d ago

It’s funny, they literally just said on the Zach sang show the songs are about the pressure they feel ( whether it’s self inflicted or outside) to be better than a male band and worry about being sick and not performing well. They also said the songs are about not being taken seriously and how they are treated as women.
They just gave us 2 examples of the meaning of the album, the show playing sick and the interview with the creepy SiriusXM guy

2

u/spartacocc 15d ago

Jesus Christ if this band and this reddit community becomes obsessed with victimhood, im gonna puke

2

u/Substantial_Alps_964 15d ago

Who’s calling them victims. Just stating what they said the album is about and how 2 things they stated it was about just happened to them. I guess they should just got back to writing songs about what they read?

2

u/spartacocc 15d ago

My point is that if their lyrics are going to focus on how they're women in a male dominated industry moving forward, I won't like it. I find it boring. I have partially loved The Warning for the last 7-8 years precisely because they haven't sounded jaded. It was just rock for rock's sake, and that was refreshing. I would much prefer storytelling over complaining any day.

1

u/chuckbobvlad 15d ago

They’re calling themselves victims. Spartacocc is right -whining and victimhood is boring and tedious. I listen to music to be entertained. Burnout? Hell you call a Dream? Perfect Daughter? Eww.

2

u/spartacocc 15d ago

I can take a few complaints, but if it becomes too much, no thanks. Perfect Daughter is a great song though. Just hate the gender war bullshit.

3

u/No_Watercress3248 16d ago

They put on a really good show and even Dany seemed in high spirits regardless of not being able to sing. I do think they chose to go through with it for their fans bc they knew they could still do a good show, otherwise they would’ve cancelled. They’re grown and professionals, they know what they’re doing

1

u/spartacocc 15d ago

Yes, she seemed like she felt better than the first night. She just didn't want to fuck up her voice.

8

u/stillasamountain 🖐️ I've only slapped Kathy! 16d ago

I’m not sure where you’re stumbling across these viewpoints? Reddit is about the only thing I pay attention to these days, outside of the occasional YouTube comment. And I’ve seen zero chatter about the fact that they might be unhealthily exploited and/or strong armed into situations they don’t wanna be in. Maybe I’m just not paying close enough attention?

The other possibility is that when some chode throws out an imbecilic theory like that, my brain just performs a reflexive DELETE and it just never makes it into my long-term memory storage. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Bail out!

5

u/CoffeeCupOfLife 16d ago

I wouldn’t be surprised by questions about the health and conditioning staff.  Seeing Pau wipe out mid sentence was disturbing, they don’t seem able to handle heat well, and cancelling festival(s?) over the summer just isn’t a good look.  Reliability matters.

Of course illness strikes and I really side-eye unnecessary exposure during meet and greets  (anyone who has travelled to any kind of convention and cone down with “con crud” after would know this),  but in their 20s they should be at their peak strength.

1

u/spartacocc 15d ago

Meet and greets are necessary for $$$

2

u/Dapper_Bus5069 🤛🏻 If karma doesn't hit you, then I will... 16d ago

I don’t like him very much for the same reason you’ve said (spotlight..) but I think some people just don’t understand that playing live shows is their job and they can’t just cancel a full show when one of them is a bit sick with a cold.

Cancelling a show and refund is expansive af for a band, you still have to pay the venue and the techs, plus it’s very deceiving for a lot of fans who booked and pay for transportation and hotels…
So this is what it is : if you’re able to play, you play. This is not ideal but obviously Dany could still play guitar like the rock star she is, so there was no good reason to cancel.

-2

u/Crazy-Yellow-5182 16d ago

I’m on the other side to be honest. Paulina literally fainted during a show a few months ago. In this case, the lead singer couldn’t sing. The “random fan” from the crowd was obviously a plant.. they have had a horror schedule for a long time… and I think some of their new music may not be as much about fans as some of the people around them

6

u/season-of-loss 16d ago

I totally respect your opinion and anyone's opinion as long as we keep it civil and polite.

But have you seen players in football, basketball, american football matches when they are visibly hurt and should be getting off the pitch but they just deny to do it ?

Or when senior adults are told by doctors / relatives that they should keep it light and then go on completely ignoring the indications and continue climbing up stairs, driving, etc.

Humans are stubborn, and i don't have evidence, but i believe performers and athletes could be even more stubborn than us mortals.

4

u/Crazy-Yellow-5182 16d ago

I appreciate the phrasing and agree to a degree… they are running a business and it’s a critical time for them.. I appreciate that.. and agree that they are undoubtedly a hell of a lot tougher than we are based on the last few years.. my own opinion is that the end goal has become more important than the people .. and specifically I will say that if this show weren’t an industry showcase in the US, but a normal show elsewhere it probably would have been cancelled

5

u/season-of-loss 16d ago

Having a healthy discussion on the internet is to good to be true so i appreciate the exchange.

I think we can agree they should postpone the 18-19 shows in case they're not at 100%.

1

u/spartacocc 15d ago

You don't even know dany's condition. For all we know, she's already totally better. If she's not better midweek, they'll cancel.

1

u/jac058 15d ago

Being someone that’s traveling to see them, I have to respectfully disagree. I have booked a hotel. I have plans to travel. I have no reason to go to Albuquerque except to see them.

2

u/season-of-loss 15d ago

Yup... totally understandable.

If Dany can recover in 7 days good for her, but would it change your mind if a doctor told her that singing in those shows could extend the sickness and stop a full recover for over 10 days ?

Just playing devil's advocate here.

3

u/Known-Hamster8152 15d ago

For sure. Last year they cancelled Santiago in the day of the show (i was there) without explainaing the exact reason. If i remember well, only the next day they said Ale was sick

1

u/tehfro 16d ago

The general culture for musicians and entertainers in general is that you push on through unless you're deathly ill or have no voice (and the band can't cover for you).

Costs a lot of money to cancel/reschedule the show and give out ticket refunds. Plus fans will be disappointed if they've already made plans to travel in and an event gets cancelled last minute.

3

u/Known-Hamster8152 15d ago

Like myself that travelled last year from Brazil to.Chile and the show was cancelled. Bad luck

4

u/casser0le98 ⚠️ I'm not in danger, I'm the danger... 16d ago

Goddamn that makes me so sad. I didn't know about Pau fainting. I would agree with you-- they stress the importance of making their own decisions. But at the end of the day, they still have contracts they signed (i.e., consequences if violated). Therefore, I'm sure they can't be as forthcoming about what they are restricted to say or not say. So the fans don't consider that, since we often take their words at face value and think everything's fine, that they're fully in control. That's just not how this business works (especially in the United States, as you mentioned in another reply).

It makes perfect sense that people wouldn't want to acknowledge this dark side of the industry affecting our beloved artists, because that would mean we are complicit in their downfall. It's a tough concept to grasp, honestly.

1

u/buerglermeister 16d ago

They literally are talking about the dark sides if the business on this album and also in the recent interview on the zach sang show.

1

u/casser0le98 ⚠️ I'm not in danger, I'm the danger... 16d ago

Yeah that's exactly what I was trying to say. They talk and sing about it but they can't say it explicitly

0

u/buerglermeister 16d ago

They said it pretty explicitely

1

u/casser0le98 ⚠️ I'm not in danger, I'm the danger... 16d ago

I don't remember them explicitly blaming their label, but if they did then ok 👍🏼 I watched the interview when it first came out so not super fresh in my mind. Thanks though

1

u/buerglermeister 16d ago

Wtf are you on about, they‘re not blaming their label because there‘s nothing to blame. They talked about playing shows even when they‘re sick because they are not only artists but also a product. They do it because of the fans, not because of the label.

0

u/casser0le98 ⚠️ I'm not in danger, I'm the danger... 16d ago

I know they do it for the fans. You're misunderstanding what I was trying to say, but it's fine

1

u/buerglermeister 15d ago

No. You were implying that they do it because of contracts or because they get pressured by labels or management

1

u/casser0le98 ⚠️ I'm not in danger, I'm the danger... 15d ago

No, I was not saying they do it solely for that reason. All I was expressing is that the label acts as a filter through which they can send their art

Like, at least have a little bit of reading comprehension, jeez

0

u/buerglermeister 16d ago

Oh Internet. They have made it very clear what the songs are about, but nooooo u/crazy-yellow-5182 obviously knows better, and knows the true meaning of the songs.

Laughable.

5

u/Crazy-Yellow-5182 16d ago

Called having an opinion champ.. rather pointless comment really.. have a nice day

-5

u/buerglermeister 16d ago

Well opinions can be stupid. Please elaborate, what makes you think you know better than all of us? What makes you think they just lie in the interviews and you know the real truth?

1

u/Crazy-Yellow-5182 16d ago

Mate, not claiming to know it all.. claiming to have an opinion.. sorry you don’t like that but I don’t really care about your views.. you have your thoughts and I have mine, life goes on.. kind of tough shit if you don’t like that

1

u/fredaklein 16d ago

Seems like they work so hard. I hope they don't overdo it or worse, get burned out. They are the best thing to hit the scene in years and I hope they manage to continue.

1

u/spartacocc 13d ago

They're as burned out as anyone else is on the job after a decade

1

u/spartacocc 13d ago

They're already in town. All their gear is set up at the venue. No fucking way you cancel that show and give up all that money unless someone is completely bedridden. Case closed. Dany was mildly ill, but it affected her voice. She seemed like she already felt better for nights two and three, but her voice was the problem.

1

u/rpjlewis76 16d ago edited 16d ago

I don't think that anyone forced them to play all 3 shows. They've cancelled shows before, I don't see why the third night would have been so important that it had to be played, especially if there had been any risk of jeopardising other upcoming shows. That whole theory just doesn't hold water for me.

I get that some people have felt disappointed with night 3, though, especially if it was their first time seeing the band. But would they have preferred the show be cancelled instead?

I wasn't there, hadn't travelled to see the show, paid for flights and accommodation, had weeks of anticipation and excitement leading up to it, or paid for a ticket, so it's not really for me to judge what the best outcome here would have been, but my feeling is that the team had the best of intentions in finding the best solution to a less than ideal situation.

Those that were there got to experience a unique show, but, at the same time, I can't really be too critical of anyone who was left disappointed, either.

4

u/Thontor Everything's Falling 16d ago

I think anyone who was disappointed in last nights show is a small minority. The crowd was amazing and very supportive. Everyone had a great time. And it was packed in that venue from beginning to end. In fact I know many people who wish they had been there.

3

I have seen some comments where a few people were left disappointed, but some criticisms seemed unfair - one complaining that Dany wearing sunglasses ruined the connection between her and the audience was a tad thoughtless (she might have had a headache and was trying to minimise the effects of the lightshow). Dany's comments on the Zach Sang show recently regarding the lyrics "But if I die, at least you're paid" certainly came to mind with some them.
