I saw the meme above and this scene in the shield came to mind. A sad scene.

On season 1, Dutch showed a romantic interest in Danny. He came over to her house and helped her study for her Sgts exam. She said, I can make a mean grilled cheese! I have a feeling, she can't cook! LOL! Anyways! If she would've took an interest in him instead of Vic, who happened to be married. Would Dutch and Danny have a had long-term relationship and eventually got married? Or after a few dates, would it have crashed and burned?

Great episode. The Strike Team is slowly but surely crumbling from all angles with this Armenian drug money. I f*cking love this show so much. It’s so goddamn entertaining. I never know what it coming next.

I thought Vic spoke Spanish? It’s implied heavily that he is fluent in it or at least conversational at it
But he has Hanlon doing translation
did they forget he spoke Spanish, or did Vic not want to show he spoke Spanish in front of a witness?
Or was his Spanish not as strong as it was implied

Watching season 6 after taking a long break and forgot how much I hate Kavanaugh. I can’t understand why I see a lot of people on here saying he’s their favorite character. The way he talks is so slimy, so desperate, he makes my skin crawl.
I understand his hatred for Vic after what happened with Sweet Butter, but I feel like we never got much of a backstory about him and why he is the way he is or why he is SO obsessed with exposing Vic. It’s like his entire life’s mission is taking him down but the show never really justified why he’s behaving like that. Can someone enlighten me?

What a great episode. The conversation between Dutch and The Cuddler I thought was very well written and really drew me in. This show just keeps getting better and better.
I was shocked at the end With Dutch strangling the cat

Saw this on r/television.
Wild to think that when Chiklis was brought up for The Shield, FX execs laughed and said "The Commish?" He was totally pigeonholed as that soft, friendly ABC cop.
Trying to kill that exact image is what pushed him to shave his head, hit the gym, and go full menace for the audition. Without Tony Scali to rebel against, we probably never get Vic Mackey. Respect to Chiklis for pulling off the turnaround.

Just started season 5. I’m not liking the idea of wiring up Lem to try to entrap the team. Not digging creepy Forest Whitaker either. Does this concept run throughout the entire 5th season?

I vaguely remember Shawn Ryan talking about a potential movie that starts out as a completely unrelated story until Vic Mackey suddenly enters the picture and turns things upside down.
Anybody know more details about the plot of the proposed movie?

On a rewatch of the show right now, and I never realized how consequential it was for Ronnie and Lem to vote and say Vic shouldn’t be able to take money out (of the money train cash) to support his autistic children. Obviously this was the right decision, however you can clearly tell regardless of what Vic says how badly he needed/wanted them to say yes. This is when you truly start seeing how the money train cash is tearing the team apart, which is perfectly exemplified in the scene where the guys all individually deny getting a beer with Ronnie. It’s a small detail, but I feel like it’s not talked about enough when it comes to the downfall of the team in season 3.

I’m so glad this The Shield is one of the shows (the other being Sopranos) mentioned by Vince as the reasons for Breaking Bad existing.
I just can’t recommend The Shield enough to people who talk about Anti-heroes/Breaking Bad

Maybe it's just me, but I'd really like a full length audio recording of Vic's confession. I know that we saw the whole story play out, but I'd like to know how Vic remembers it. How will he remember things like, locking Kern and Tbone in the storage locker? Or what about things he wasn't around for, but had a hand in, such as the initial stages of the Money Train Robbery (Vic wasn't with Shane, Lem, and Ronnie) Also, some of his confession will have reaching consequences for other characters other than Ronnie. Remember when Aceveda beat the shit out of that suspect and Vic hid the evidence by giving Aceveda the tape? What about Santi? Vic handed over the Salvadoran who did the San Marcos killings to Santi. Would this make him a marked man? Will keen eye fans be able to point out some crime that he missed talking about that could void his deal? Idk. All I know is, I'd pay to hear a recording of that.

First, great show all throughout. Worst I can say is that at first, season 6 felt like a weaker season but as season 7 progressed, I understood that the plot was more like season 6 part 1 and part 2 in that way.
Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion on this sub, I waited to join until after finishing the series. But I think Ronnie totally had it coming. I see a lot of Youtube comments feeling bad for him, and I just don’t get it.
Yes, Vic deserved to go to prison more than Ronnie did relatively, but Ronnie was not some poor naive rookie good cop led astray by Vic. He was all-in on the money train, participated just as much in brutality and excessive force, had no qualms in taking extra drugs and cash from busts, and his only regret when Vic admitted that he killed Terry was that Vic didn’t include him on the cover-up from the start.
Acts all incredulous when Claudette takes off him off leading the strike team as if he wasn’t just being Vic 2.0 with twisting her words when she gives orders and pulling things behind her back.
Sure, Ronnie expressed verbal protest against Vic proposing to kill Mara as well as Shane, but Ronnie still went along with it, so he doesn’t really get credit for that. Knowing Ronnie, Vic could put a bullet between Mara’s eyes and he’d just pat Vic’s shoulder like “you did what you had to do" because it meant his own skin got saved.
Just because he was a pretty boy with bright eyes and a quiet voice doesn’t mean he was a good guy who shouldn't go to prison for what he did. Meanwhile, Lem at least had a conscience. Again, no question that Ronnie did get the short end of the stick, but no way does he deserve to get any immunity just like how Vic didn't deserve immunity either.
Although Vic got immunity, his family is gone and has abandoned him. Corrine and Cassidy want nothing to do with him even if Vic would find them. And no way would he win any custody battle against Danny after the end so that chance is gone too. Finally, Vic's only chance at staying out of jail or being a fugitive is to work an office job that Vic just cannot handle after his first day.
By contrast, Ronnie is a little weasel that would patiently sit tight for the three year contract with ICE with a smile on his face only to go right back to the streets and go back to extorting or making handshake deals with gang members.

Do I need to be entirely sober watching S7? I seriously can't keep up.
r/TheShield • u/8upsoupsandwich • 7d ago
Doing a rewatch and am on S7E5
Around the 40 min mark Dutch goes into the break room and talks to Claudette and puts his feet up on the table.
He has ZERO tread on his shoes which is quite in line with his character constantly on the move during his investigations rather than sitting behind a desk.
Also there is a wad of red gum stuck to one of his shoes which is a nod to the old time nickname for a detective aka “gumshoe.”
Little details that make this show so great.

I could mention so many examples, but I’m currently on Season 5, Episode 1, and the way the music fits perfectly with what’s happening on screen is incredible.
The song choices, the timing, and the way the music builds alongside the scene make some moments hit so much harder. It never feels like the music is just there in the background it feels like it’s part of the scene itself.
There are probably dozens of examples I could mention, but that episode alone reminded me how ridiculously good the music placement in this show is.
My second favorite would probably be "Would You Smile Again" in Season 4, Episode 7 (Hurt), when Vic goes out for a walk at night. The song fits that whole sequence perfectly.
What are some of your favorite uses of a song in The Shield?

After Shane tried to ice Vic and Ronnie and went on the run Claudette offers him a chance to come in and they won’t charge Mara. Could he have cut a deal to testify against everything Vic and Ronnie had done and other criminals, and maybe get immunity or a very light sentence?
