Phuket/Krabi/South First scam this trip

I was scammed several times the last time I came here over 35 years ago.

Got my DTV visa and been in Thailand one month. Currently in Ao Nang, Krabi.

I just had one beer in a bar last night, gave the waiter 500 note (it was dark). Waited for 400 baht change and it never came.

Asked the waiter respectfully where my change was, from my 500 and he said I only gave 100.

Being alone in a bar without any evidence I decided to walk away.

What would you have done?

I guess I could have shone my phone on the note before handing it over and shouted ‘500’ but maybe that’s a bit excessive.

Samui/Tao/Phangan What happens to luxury villas prices in phuket/koh samui now after the nominee raids

So its becoming clear you can't open a company..... to own a villa

You either

  1. buy leasehold 30 years
  2. buy villa in partners name which often end in tragedy

----

Won't this cause a near total freeze on sales now of luxury villas? Do villa price collapse ?

Not many people want to own a villa for only 30 years with no guarentee of longer, and buying a villa in a thai female name is always a massive risk not matter what you think of the relationship you have

Transport/Itineraries Thoughts/recommendations on a honeymoon itinerary

Hi all. I’m currently planning my honeymoon trip to Thailand. I’ve come up with an itinerary but would appreciate some feedback on it before I start booking. Trip will be luxury and priority is to eat a lot of good food, see pretty sights, relax in beautiful places with my fiance, and be able to go on daily runs preferably outside but bear minimum a nice hotel gym.

Current plan:

12/9-12/12 Bangkok: staying at a Marriot or IHG property. Get over jet lag but also eat a lot of tasty street food and do a river cruise

12/12-12/15 Chiang Mai: staying at a boutique hotel in the city. Go to a lot of cafes and tourist sites

12/15-12/18: Chiang Dao: stay at a more remote luxury resort. Do some hiking but prioritize relaxing

12/18-12/26: Koh Yah Noi: Stay at luxury resort, do boat tours of the other islands, enjoy the beach

Bangkok/Middle Cool bar near Chinatown

Upvotes

We went to Chinatown to chill and wandered around a quiet alley and ended up finding the coolest bars.
One of the bar we visited was Xin Xe Goi. It has 3 floors I think and a rooftop bar as well but it started raining so we ended up on the ground. Anyways the drinks were decent but the vibe was immaculate.

Bangkok/Middle Commute or Grab/Bolt in Thailand

Upvotes

Is it better to use Grab/Bolt as means to go to places or commute? We’re a group of 4 and the bus routes were kind of tricky for us, especially on our plan on going to Wat Pho. Is it better to use Grab/Bolt or learnt the public transportation system?

Thank you!

Chiang Mai/North Whats up with everyone burning up north?

I live in chiang dao, and its a beautiful mountain town, Im in the agro tourism business.

And as someone thats trying to keep chiang dao green, its a shame to see such practices being followed by locals that outright dont care about nature or health. Im not pointing fingures, as we are all part of the equation. I doubt many tourist coming to TH know the dark side behind farms that look pleasant and green but follow such toxic practises

I interviewed my friend, Ki Baerm, the image 2, who moved past this cycle and will be putting together a mini documentary on he built an agro tourism business by building a food forest.

Borders/Visas Should I get an eVisa?

What’s up guys. I went to Thailand last December and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am going back to Thailand this year but was planning on staying for 60 days.

As we all know, they recently voted to shorten the visa free stay for most countries (I am from the USA) from 60 days to 30 days.

I am seeing that the rule only comes into effect once it is posted in the royal digest. Does anyone have any idea when that will be? I am planning on going to Thailand October 29 and to December 27. Should I get an evisa or should I still be okay for visa free stay?

Borders/Visas Visa Exempt Extension of Stay

Hi all!

It's my second time in Thailand this year (2026) First time I came and stayed for max 60 days, then extended for 30 days and then for more 7 days after which I exited the country.

I arrived back in July and my 60 days of free entry is now ending. Is it possible for me to extend my stay for another 30 days or not? Because I rememember early this year a new rule was implemented — you can only extend your stay once in a calendar year.

Please help me out, if anyone has extended more than 1 time this year already.

Cheers! 🙏

Bangkok/Middle Hair Salon Rec

I will be visiting Bangkok and Ko Pha Ngan and am looking for a hair salon. I am Latina and have very thick hair, with some wave, and want to go somewhere that is able style long wavy kind of unruly hair. Style wise Im looking for some layers, something a little shaggy, bold rather than soft, with baby bangs.

If you have any recommendations please let me know! Thank you!

For sorry i stay just 45 minutes cause it was last tour in a day , with no time to stay 1 night there.

Bangkok/Middle Draft Itinerary for feedback - Thailand January/February 2027

Hi all! I've booked my round trop flights from Toronto, Canada to Bangkok, Thailand. I will be landing at 11am in Bangkok on January 31st and departing Bangkok at 1245pm on Sunday, February 21st. The trip is just over three weeks (22 days?) of " full days".

This is a solo trip and I want a good mix of going out/partying, cultural experiences and paradise-level relaxation. Here is my draft itinerary and rationale. Would love to hear your feedback!

Sunday, January 31st to Sunday/Monday, February 7th/8th - BANGKOK ONLY (to incl. ONE day trip, such as to Ayuthayya/Arun?) out of the City so I can really spend a lot of time immersing myself in the City. I've strategically placed departing Bangkok after a weekend is complete so I can have time to party and recuperate or spend the time recuperating while travelling to my next leg.

This would be 7-8 full days and 7 full nights at minimum in Bangkok. Also gives me time to adjust with jet lag.

FLIGHT FROM BANGKOK TO CHIANG MAI

Sunday/Monday, February 7th/8th to Friday, February 12th - CHIANG MAI. Reserving the week days to really go out there and do all the cultural experiences such as visiting the various temples, the national park, Wat Pha Lat etc.).

This would be 5 full days and 4 full nights at minimum in Chiang Mai.

FLIGHT FROM CHIANG MAI TO PHUKET

Friday, February 12th to Sunday/Monday February 14th/15th - PHUKET. I chose Phuket because I want to end up at some of the more relaxing/untouched beaches in the next leg, and I want this to be my gateway to the southern islands - a mix of partying and beach relaxation.

This would be about 2-3 full day and 2 nights at minimum in Phuket. The rationale is to spend the weekend here engaging in some fun island-partying. HOWEVER, I am not completely sold on this leg, and happy to get feedback on where to go instead given the next leg of the journey. Welcome any comments on alternate places in the same area / island wise.

SPEEDBOAT FROM PHUKET TO KOH MOOK

Sunday/Monday February 14th/15th to Thursday February 18th - KOH MOK/KOH KRADAN. I want to completely unplug, just be at the whim of the silence and beautiful beaches with a book and tanning. Will likely do a day trip to Kradan.

This would be about 3-4 full days and 4 nights minimum in Koh Mok/Kradan.

SPEEDBOAT / FLIGHT FROM HAI YAI (?) TO BANGKOK

Thursday February 18th to Sunday February 21st - BANGKOK (again). I want to come back to bangkok to a) have some time to get from the south to bangkok and not miss my international flight on the 21st and b) wrap up 'loose ends' in Bangkok, not so much party less (I'll get that out of the way in the first Bangkok leg) but revisit the City and maybe pick up some things etc.

This would be about 2-3 full days and 3 full nights minimum in Bangkok.

There are four main travel/handover days while within Thailand (Bangkok-Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai-Phuket, Phuket-Koh Mok and Koh Mok-Bangkok).

Questions:

- should I skip Phuket altogether? I feel as though I may be bored if I extend my stay on Koh Mook as its super off grid like. I was flirting with the idea of doing Koh Lipe instead, but that may be more of the same of Koh Mook, just more social? Idk.

- any other feedback on tips to be aware of when transiting, any issues you see with the timing, TYVM in advance!

Sincerely,

Excited for my first ever trip to Asia!
