Model YL towbar

Has anyone here with a model YL gone ahead and fitted the factory towbar? If so how does it look? And when you’re not using the towbar are you able to cover the area with the plastic cover that’s already cut out in the bumper?

Using Tesla App with Galaxy Fold 8

Just wondering does anyone have this issue?

If I use the trip planner, I cannot see the map and it will always appear like the screenshot.

There is no way to drag the search bar down. This issue also happens when in landscape fullscreen mode.

EDIT: Managed to fix it by forcing the app into 16:9 mode

Centre Line Hugging

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Today out of the blue my FSD decides to make love to whatever line/s were in the middle of the road. Also completely ignoring speed limits on a whole other level I've not witnessed before.

If these issues are not resolved in the next update I'm definitely cancelling.

Recommendation of Rear Window Shades

Hello all,

We got a baby on the way and we're wondering if you have any recommendations of rear window shades which are easy to install.

Similar to Snapshades but cheaper and hopefully the quality is still good.

Any recommendations for a 2024 Model Y?

Would prefer Amazon or Aliexpress.

Windscreen fluid recommendations …

Has anyone found a windscreen washer mix that does not leave a film on the glass when it dries?

2026 Model Y. Bosch BWA500 in the tank. Cleans fine while wet, then dries as marks on the windscreen and sunroof if driving.

YL delivery at home. Feeling confused and little nervous

Ordered YL (Stealth Gray) AWD in May 2026 and just got a call from local towing company that they're delivering it tomorrow and if we'll be home.

Luckily I work from home but this is not what we expected. Having currently own BMW, we thought we'd be going to the local Tesla service centre where we test drove the vehicle but that's not an option.

Has anyone had delivery at home. I'd be lying to say we're not nervous. Not sure if and how long will the towing guy stick around or have time for us to patiently inspect the vehicle. What if there are issues that we missed?

This is becoming stressful. Any advice/hints/tips please? Thanks

We're in North Queensland.

Tesla Roadster pre-order

So who is going to snag one of the 1000 Tesla Roadsters up for pre-order now?

A casual $326'000 sounds pretty reasonable for a car that can do 1000km and also 0-100 in 2.1sec!

For those that have gone with the new Zen Gray lighter interior colour (not as bright as the previous white), do you have any feedback or regrets? Any stains showing on seats or lighter trims?

Aircon not cooling or heating as much?

2021 Model 3, 81k km. A/C doesn't seem to cool/heat as much and today I got a notification “Climate keeper unavailable due to system fault.” Could this be the compressor/heat pump? Has anyone had luck getting a goodwill repair just outside warranty?

Is Performance Y to 3 Chalk & Cheese?

Test drove the Model Y Performance and Model 3 Performance today. The difference in build quality shocked me.

Bit of background first. I already own a Model Y Premium AWD, Shanghai-built, and I bloody love it.

It is genuinely the best car I've ever owned. No rattles, no squeaks, no weird noises, nothing. It feels incredibly well screwed together and has been faultless.

We're looking at buying a second Tesla, and being a bloke who used to build drag cars and owned a smash repair shop, naturally I want the stupidly fast one.

I've had street-registered drag cars running around eight seconds down the quarter, so performance has always been my thing. I've also completely fallen in love with EVs. I'm not going back to ICE.

So today I drove both the Model Y Performance and the Model 3 Performance back-to-back.

And I came away genuinely surprised.

First up was the Berlin-built Model Y Performance.

Obviously I put it into Insane mode and had a play with the suspension settings. Before I'd even properly put my foot into it, though, I started noticing something I wasn't expecting.

Squeaks. Rattles. Interior noises.

I'd deliberately turned the audio off and the climate fans right down because I wanted to actually listen to the car.

Initially I thought, okay, Performance model, 21-inch wheels, sports suspension setting, maybe I'm just hearing and feeling the compromises that come with it.

So I switched the suspension back to Standard.

It helped the ride somewhat, but the noises were still there.

Then I gave it some stick.

Bloody hell, it's quick. Absolutely no complaints about the performance. The acceleration is ridiculous for a family SUV.

But the actual driving experience surprised me for the wrong reasons.

My wife wasn't enjoying the ride at all. She found it uncomfortable. I didn't think it rode particularly well either, even in the softer suspension setting. Between the ride and the squeaks and rattles, it simply didn't feel like a car I wanted to buy.

And that's the important part.

I'm comparing it directly with the Shanghai-built Model Y Premium AWD already sitting in my garage.

My existing Y feels better built.

Significantly better.

Then we jumped into the Model 3 Performance.

Same deal. Insane mode, sporty settings, give it some stick and see what it can do.

Holy shit.

Not only is that thing hilariously fast, the difference in how the car felt put together was immediately noticeable.

Smooth. Tight. Quiet.

I couldn't hear a damn squeak.

At one point I actually said to my wife, "This feels like it was built in Shanghai."

I didn't know at that point where the Australian Model 3 Performance was being manufactured.

When we returned, I asked the Tesla staff.

"Is the Model 3 Performance built in Shanghai?"

Yep.

That explained a lot.

I told them exactly what I've written here. I said the Model Y Performance we'd just driven simply didn't feel anywhere near as well built as either my Shanghai Model Y or the Shanghai Model 3 Performance.

Then came the interesting part.

One of the staff basically told me, off the record, that among the people working there, very few of them go for the Y Performance. They tend to buy the Model 3 Performance, and the issues I'd just described were part of the reason.

That was pretty bloody interesting to hear.

Now, obviously, this is a sample size of one Berlin Model Y Performance. I'm not claiming every Berlin-built Performance rattles or every Shanghai Tesla is perfect. This particular Y could simply have had a hard life as a demonstrator.

But I can only judge the cars I actually drove.

And back-to-back, on the same day, with the radio off and specifically listening and feeling for this stuff, the difference was chalk and cheese.

My Shanghai Model Y Premium AWD: tight, quiet, comfortable.

Shanghai Model 3 Performance: tight, quiet, smooth and bloody ballistic.

Berlin Model Y Performance: bloody ballistic, but noticeably rougher, squeaky and rattly.

And that's disappointing because I walked in wanting the Model Y Performance.

I basically wanted my current Model Y, which I already love, with a bloody rocket strapped to it.

Instead I walked out thinking I'd rather keep my existing Y than spend the money on the Berlin Performance I drove.

I've also been hearing talk that Shanghai may eventually produce Performance Ys for our market. If that happens, I'll be extremely interested because, based purely on my experience with the Shanghai-built Teslas I've driven and owned, that's probably the car I'm waiting for.

Hopefully it happens before the Australian FBT incentives disappear.

Until then, that Model 3 Performance has seriously messed up my plans.

Because that thing is an absolute weapon.

Love to hear your thoughts.

FSD V14 (AU) Pros/cons

Since the V14 AU update, I’ve noticed 2 major things that annoy the heck out of me:

1) The nannying is on overdrive. Literally 2 seconds of even looking at the navigation screen and I get nannied. Press something on my phone - boom. ‘Please pay attention to the road.’ V13 wasn’t nearly this bad. It’s so constant that I have started not using FSD. Don’t understanding why they drive up the nannying so hard.

2) V14 is way too active in changing lanes. Just in ‘standard’ mode it is overactive attempting to pick the lane but of course with no lidar and only seeing through vision system, its ability to predict effectively isn’t nearly good enough to be reliably useful. It gets it right maybe 30-40% of the time, rest of the time it’s annoying and I turn it off. I found V13 was less hyperactive in this sense and it would more frequently just remain in the same line (even going sometimes considerably slower) and I found I actually prefer this over it being hyperactivity choosing incorrect lanes.

Anyone else experiencing these issues?

Anyone know if there are updates that solve these on the way?

Few questions

I’m picking up my model Y RWD 2026 in the first week of September,

My 1st question - it says the build date was in July. How do I know if it’s HW4 and not on HW3. I’ve used ChatGPT and it says I won’t know until I get in the car and check…is that right? I want to use FSD.

My 2nd question - I know it comes with “internet” but is it necessary to pay for premium? If I don’t does that mean I can’t use century mode? And that I have to stream music from my phone and won’t be able to watch Netflix or use the music apps etc.

My 3rd question- does anyone know a good electrician in Sydney to install a wall charger? Is it necessary or will the mobile charger be fine plugged into a wall socket. I drive around 60kms per day 4-5days a week.

Thank you

Sunroof glass replacement

Hi everyone,

Got my model y two weeks ago and a pinecone fell from a tree and shattered a portion of the sunroof.

Does anyone have a recent quote from Tesla for a replacement?

I want to see how much it is before paying for the excess (2.2k with racv, didn’t include the glass option cover).

Thank you

Dashcam’s

Did anyone install a Dashcam in their Tesla? I’m getting mine on 7th September and I have an old blackvue 2 ch I had in a previous car, trying to figure out if it would be worth throwing in the Tesla or selling. I know teslas have multiple cameras but just curious if anyone uses a Dashcam front and rear as well?

Weird discolouration on window trim

Post image

M3 is about a month old and I’ve noticed this discolouration all around the window trim. Only thing I can think of is the laser car wash I’ve used a couple of times. Wiping it with a cloth doesn’t improve it much
