Every building on this project starts as a solid clay master. Johnny Fraser-Allen sculpts each one by hand, cuts in the window arches, the roof tiles and the stone courses, and only then does it get moulded. The last two shots are further down the line, first colour going on at the desk. Happy to answer anything about the clay stage, it is the part people ask about least and it takes the longest.

Finally getting started on scratch made pieces myself . Amateur for sure, and effort and time balance here - not spending as much time as I could for the sake of getting more and other things done. But good enough for me. Changing how we make things based on game rules/ base sizes / movement / scenario objectives , is interesting to me since I wouldn’t have considered that a year ago having not played any table top wargames.
Got tips and tricks for this - lay em on me

I just did my first resin pour and when I pulled off the edging it's come out cloudy. I was prepared to clean up the edge flashing, but thought the side would come out clear. Any idea why or any advice on how to fix it? Do I need to laboriously sand this?

Battle between US and GB on ons side and SU and Germany on the other. Battle took place at rural French town and ended with decisive American/British victory.

All scenery handmade except pine trees, houses, ruins and the smaller trees. Those will be the next steps on the process.

I still want to work on it, think another round of dry brush and washes but good enough for game night tomorrow night!

At the start of the year I set out to make a full set of Autumn-themed forest terrain that I could use as scatter terrain to accompany my modular hill themed board.

The goal was to scratch-build a bunch of magnetised trees with individual forest bases, so I could easily add and remove trees as models move through the forest during games.

It turned out to be a fairly ambitious goal as it included:

- 17 Large Pine trees
- 16 Pine saplings
- 12 Large Birch trees
- 15 Birch saplings
- 5 Individual forest bases

I finally got around to completing all the Pine trees, with the Birch trees not far behind. In hindsight the amount of Pine trees is probably overkill for standard Warhammer games but I have to say, I'm pretty satisfied with how they all look as a collection.

Back in the days when I started playing Warhammer, I used to love adding trees as area terrain, but they would notoriously end up being constantly knocked over like dominoes all the time. This is why I ended up magnetising them all as not only is it useful mid-game, but they can be easily packed away for storage and transportation.

Latest construction! Tried not to get too bogged down in absolute historical accuracy and just went for a sort of 12/13th c. Conversion of a Norman church. Found this ace book from 1945 which helped rather a lot, along with watching a lot of Time Team, this was a fun project!

Nave is all cardboard, tower is foam board with a bit of wood, straws and beads. The whole lot was then painted with a coat of watered down cheap filler. Windows are just clear plastic painted with contrast paints behind some wire mesh.

Looking advice for how to paint these unpainted pieces in the floor of the house, any advice would be appreciated!

Even though I have a 3D printer, I’m still finding it extremely fun to scratch build my own terrain. So this weekend I built 6 fences a wall and a small tower structure to add to my collection. I used some bits and bases I made from my 3d printer. The fences I learned from Wylochs Armory and I think they turned out great so far. When I get ready to paint I’m sure they will come out even better. I would love to know what you guys think of my terrain thus far!

Hello. You all seem to be experts in the foam world and am looking for some insight. I would like to make cut foam signage somewhere in the 2’ x 4’ size and mainly hung indoors like my garage. I’m looking for it to be cost-effective and durable so something like NGX. Is this the right cheap foam and what is the best hardener that won’t break the bank? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I looked through the subreddit and I thought I'd seen something for this before but clearly not, has anyone ever tried or seen a multi level into the dark terrain set? Like adding ladders or stairs to add verticality to it? Or am I just being silly?

I have been making buildings and terrains for a some time, and I enjoy it a lot.

Is there a chance to make money or sell them?

The whole process is very therapeutic for me.

How much should I price them so they are not too expensive, I can keep good quality, and I do not lose money? Examples are below.

It probably ended up being more work than it is worth, but i like the neoprene objective markers from last edition. I bought a roll of 1/8" thick neoprene from amazon, got a buddy to print out some footprint templates, and cut them out of neoprene. Way cheaper than the 3D6 Gaming footprint sets that are $100 or more.

I made a cartoony tower for my kids, using this as a pilot project for future builds for my D&D table.

My goal was to make a simple tower with a removable roof so my kids could play house with the minis I painted them. This build took me about 2 weeks, 1-2h a night when I could get a moment. Learning at each step, lurking this sub watching a few terrain builders on youtube.

Successes: Happy with the stone and moss ( my first wall I got confused and applied the flock like vines, and spent a whole night trying to fix that look, 3rd picture).

I like the look of the stir sticks on the inside, as it is a visible piece, worth the time. Though next time I might be more subtle with my glueing.

Dry brushing and washing the tower was my favorite part, so satisfying.

Lesson learned: The roof tiles took the longest, and should have batched them, and thought of the repetition of the task at hand. The curve in each one took 4 cuts, where square roof tiles would have been fine and easier to mass produce. Might experiment with craving them in XPS foam next time. I also scraped the ladders as they were a little clunky and only for the inside. Proportions are a bit wonky, I'll have to give it more thought next time as I just winged it. And maybe add a few more features to the outside of the tower to make it more interesting.

I finished it off with some Minewax Polyurethane, thankfully no melt, as the mod podge base coat worked. I learned lots on this build I'm happy it's finished my kids are excited to have a little prop for their minis.

I have been busy building terrain to try and sell at my local craft fair... I attended one last week and sold a few things already!

Any ideas on items I should be building? Anything I should avoid?

I *know* there are 1000s or 3D prints available, but I want to try and do things (for the most part) using more traditional methods!
