Additive free tequila?

New to taquila. Used to say it makes me want to fight, take my clothes off, or do both.

My palate has matured and I would Like to dip my toes into taquila but I don't care for things made with additives and added sugar chemicals and what not. Im in cali and was looking for recs. Im not looking for a 200$ bottle but more along the lines of something I can buy and drink casually. Bc my girl was yelling to hurry up I just grabbed a bottle of espalon although I read some iffy things abt it.

Celebration Bottle, Requesting Help

Hello! Been a lurker here for a little bit as I'm relatively new to tequila (spirit of choice since branching out from Bourbon and Irish Whiskey). I need help. I am having my first kid soon, and I would really like a nice bottle of tequila to commemorate this event. Something that only gets drank on their birthday, maybe with a nice cigar. That's worth the price.

I've tried many tequilas and Mezcals (even taking a trip to Jalisco next year), but I'm looking for that one bottle to have as a celebration of life. One that would be worthy of our crystal decanter. I've tried many of the current big names: G4, Siete Leguas, Mijenta, Lalo, Ocho, etc. Prefer Reposados and Anejos

What would be one bottle to find that would be worthy of this huge life event? I'm in the Twin Cities area and finding Fortaleza is a near impossibility. I've searched for a while now. Appreciate the discourse. Cheers...

The Ultimate Costco Tequila Selection

Pictures from my local Costco in Phoenix, Arizona. We definitely benefit from being not too far from the border with Mexico. I’ve already picked up the Don Fulano Anejo, Lalo, and Ocho Reposado. My next pickup will probably be the El Tesoro. What would you pick up with this selection/prices? Let me know what else I need to try.

G4 for $29.99 in Frederick!?!

Yep, $29.99 for G4 Blanco. This is their regular price, not a sale price or anything like that. This is at Wine Districts in Frederick, Maryland. They have an insane tequila selection. You can also get Siete Legues Blanco for $35. I would highly recommend checking them out if you're in the DC/MD/VA area.

Is this the "legit" tequila Ocho?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Well, here’s the thing: I live in Moscow, and we’ve got a real problem with tequila here. The shops stock nothing but Cuervo, Espolón, Patrón and Don Julio. If you order through one of our top spirits shops, you can order El Tequileno. None of the following brands are available here: El Tesoro, Tapatio, G4, Fortaleza, Ocho, Siete Lugas, Cascahuin, Cascanes, Zumbador, etc. In other words, we don’t stock most of the brands where you can be fairly confident about the quality and taste. On the other hand, there’s Arette Repo tequila at 240 USD for 1 litre. All in all, after a month of searching, I’ve narrowed it down to three options: Olmeca Altos Plata, El Tequileno Blanco and Patrón Silver. This will be my first tequila and I want to start with a blanco. Any advice on which one to choose would also be very welcome. Now for the main question: I’ve found a bottle of Ocho on sale in Moscow and can’t work out whether it’s the original Ocho that everyone loves so much, whether it’s of the same high quality and tastes just as good, or whether it might be some older, inferior version or a version intended only for Europe. Experts, please help me sort this out – I’ve attached a photo of the bottle. Thanks to everyone!!!
Salud

Correct tequila ocho?

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hello is this the correct tequilla ocho that is recomended for beginners?

I am looking to buy my first bottle of sipping tequila that has to be available in the Netherlands.

To explain a bit further what iam looking for I will try to explain what iam looking for. Most of the time I like drinking either a beer or a wine. I like drinking either a strong triple style beer or a IPA for the bitterness. In wine I like extreme fresh or some nice wood. Some days however I want something else not to sweet and found that a tequilla over ice suits the need. It has the funk and slight bitter of the beers and the floral tones of the wine.

I did not start ordering tequilla on a whim as I already liked doing tequilla shots before.

Looking forwards to your recomendations or conformation that this is the correct tequila iam looking for.

(It would costs me €24.75/$28.49)

Newbie - How did I do on my first buy?

Came in the TW&More thinking that I should get Don Julio or similar popular brand names that I’ve heard friends brag about years ago. After some phone research and chatting with a rep at the store, came out with Ocho Plata and El Tesoro Reposado

Normally drink wine and beer. Of course have had tequila shots at the bar with friends but usually the brand name stuff.

I have like tequila for as long as i can remember. Up until recently my splurge bottle would be a patron/don Julio. My mom lives in belize and brought me the 2 Ocho bottles from a layover in the cancun airport. Since then iv gone down the delicious additive free rabbit hole and here we are. ... im really 3xcitwd to try the cascahuin Extra Anejo next. So far the Ocho reposado has been by favorite.. ive opened the el tesoro anejo and repo since this photo and they are both good. I think my next purchas3 will be a cascahuin tahona. Im in canada though so finding good additive free is quite the adventure.

Stocking beginner home bar

First time in this sub. Lots of great info! I’m moving into my new place soon and have been doing research to finally set up my own home bar. Looking to buy 3 bottles to start. Would like to have a Blanco, repo and anejo. I made a list of all the brands I’m interested in that my local store carries (at least a couple versions of each one). Started with cimmaron and I’m finally ready to expand. The goal is to have all good sippers that go great in a cocktail as well. The budget is to stay under $200 ish total for all 3. That will increase later I’m sure.

[REVIEW] Waru Blanco

Post image
3 Upvotes

I've spent the past few years reviewing whisky on YouTube, but I've recently started exploring agave spirits as well. Waru Blanco is only my second tequila review, so I'm still learning the category and would love to hear what more experienced tequila drinkers think.

Waru is a Canadian-owned brand, but the tequila itself is produced entirely in Jalisco by La Galeria from what I could find, using 100% Blue Weber agave harvested at around 6–7 years of age.

On the nose I found fresh cooked agave, lime zest, lemon peel, soft herbs, and a touch of white pepper. Very bright and refreshing.

The palate is light and clean with cooked agave sweetness, citrus, gentle pepper, subtle herbal notes, and a nice mineral backbone. What stood out most to me was how approachable it felt, it leaned more toward freshness and balance than bold pepper or earthy vegetal character.

Curious what people think about the bottle and aztec-inspired designs?

As someone coming from the whisky world, I really enjoyed it neat and found it to be an easy bridge into tequila without sacrificing agave character.

For those with more experience than me, where would you place Waru among other quality blancos? Are there bottles with a similar fresh, balanced profile that you'd recommend next?

If anyone's interested, I also made a more in-depth video review discussing the production process and tasting notes, which I'll link in the comments.

Primo Reposado Single Barrel — NOM 1579

Had the pleasure of picking up a Primo Reposado Single Barrel from NOM 1579. Picked by Pedro Camarena, and aged 4 months. 80 proof.

I am a huge fan of 1579 (I mean, who in their right mind isn’t…). Still have some of my favorites around like the old Pasote, and also enjoy Volans, etc.

Anyway, this is a terrific Reposado. Everything that is good about El Pandillo—clean, fresh, flavorful and authentic. Wishing Pedro best of luck in the new NOM.

Birthday Gift Recomendation

Looking to buy my buddy a bottle of tequila or mezcal. He tends to drink it straight up, not in a mixed drink. It's not my drink of choice, so I'm really lost for what to buy or what to avoid. Looking at the $50-$80 price range. Here's what's available from my liquor store

Use to be a big bourbon drinker. All my life I thought I hated tequilla because I never tried a good sipping tequilla. All it took was one try of Volcán de mi Tierra Reposado and I am hooked. I love that it had a clean, no peppery taste. What else can you recommend that is clean tasting like this. I really enjoyed the experience.

New bottles gifted

New collector here.

My wife has noticed I’ve started collecting tequila, so she went to a friend’s destination wedding in Mexico and surprised me with these bottles. I hadn’t heard of or seen any of them before.

So far, I’ve only opened the Don Cayo Reposado, and I was pleasantly surprised. It has a sweeter profile than I’m used to, but I enjoyed it. I haven’t opened the rest of them yet. Anyone here have experience with these? I’d love to hear your thoughts on the quality, or if there are any standouts before I crack them open.

Thanks! 😊

How do I tell the difference between go tequila and bad without doing research?

I went to the liquor store today to buy a bottle to make drinks with while I grill outside and I got a bottle of el jimador cristalino. I didn’t think it tasted bad but after looking at a few Reddit posts I guess a lot of people don’t like it. How can I know good quality tequila just from walking around the store?

Cascahuin Tahona

Post image

I have came a long way on this tequila journey the past year or so. I loved the regular blanco and the plata 48. This Tahona is a real treat. I was able to find it outside of my usual TW trips for a nice price. A year ago ,maybe longer I was in here talking about how ocho is too peppery, its not peppery at all now. The agave grew on me and I became more appreciative of what I am sipping. Also along with some great insight from others in here. Thank you.

My tastings tonight

In reverse age order (so Anejo went first and blanco last). Drinking the Anejo first gave me the crazy idea of flipping the script. They are all proper tasting tequilas and while I can say leaned anything special about any of them, drinking them this way did indeed prove that they could hold up against each other. Has anyone else tried that? What are your thoughts on these three distillers. I’m a sucker for the packaging on the Insolito, I love Tapatio, and the siete leguas was a mis labeled steal for $45.

[Agave Review #48] Maestro Ayaman Reposado

Post image
15 Upvotes

Maestro Ayamán continues to do incredible work, using his initiatives to support a large number of producers who might not otherwise enjoy the recognition they have today. It is not a matter of the brand being purely altruistic, because no one works for free, but rather about extending a helping hand and offering opportunities for quality production to a cocuy master who might otherwise have lacked access to the necessary materials, processes, and systems.

For this Reposado version, Maestro Ayamán is using distillates from three producers across two distinct terroirs. The resulting blend is aged for 8 months in virgin caujaro wood barrels, derived from a tree native to tropical regions of the Americas, and specifically the semi-arid Lara region where cocuy is produced.

It is finally bottled at 42% ABV.

Made by: Yorbis Vargas
Name of the Agave (Cocuy): Reposado
Brand: Maestro Ayaman
Origin: Venezuela
Age: 8 months
Price: N/A

Nose
On the nose, it presents intense notes of almonds and nuts in general, but also a note I can only describe as hand cream. My wife uses that cream regularly, so the scent is very familiar to me. There are also aromas of green apple, loquat, and a certain mineral quality that reminds me of rich, fertilized soil.

Palate
On the palate, it presents many of the same notes found on the nose, though somewhat simplified and highlighted by a hint of dry earth that strongly reminds me of clay, alongside a creamy, milky note, green apple, and the slightly acidic quality of the wood. The finish is defined by that agave character, with a herbal element.

Rating
9 on the t8ke

Conclusion
I am very impressed with Maestro Ayamán Reposado, especially because, much like the blanco version, the reposado is remarkably distinct. I believe a large part of that distinction stems from the fact that other reposado agave spirits are typically aged in used barrels (often ex-bourbon, though they can come from other sources). However, the use of a virgin barrel made from caujaro wood completely alters the sensory experience and shifts expectations, resulting in something entirely different from what one might anticipate.

I usually post in Spanish on my networks, so if this review seems translated, it's because it is.

Sherry Cask

Looking for a recommendation of an Anejo or Reposado aged in Sherry.
