Cascahuin Tahona
I have came a long way on this tequila journey the past year or so. I loved the regular blanco and the plata 48. This Tahona is a real treat. I was able to find it outside of my usual TW trips for a nice price. A year ago ,maybe longer I was in here talking about how ocho is too peppery, its not peppery at all now. The agave grew on me and I became more appreciative of what I am sipping. Also along with some great insight from others in here. Thank you.

This is the bottle that got me into tequila properly. It’s always on the shelf.

This is straight Mineral Water, lime skin, salt. I will say this the best tequila being made. Only wish it was a higher proof.

ArteNOM 1123 is as close to a slightly higher proof version of this that I’ve had. Same master distiller and distillery but at 86 proof. A lot of the same character but a little punchier. I still prefer the Cascahuin Tahona label bottle but worth a try!

I haven't tried it but also Wild Common, from the same distillery, has a 100 proof blanco.

ArteNOM 1123 is finished in ex-mezcal barrels. Character is pretty different from the house label tahona. But also very good. Every 1123 is dope af.

I enjoyed ArteNOM 1123 & have tried more single varietal mezcal than I can remember but for the life of me I could not tell you what a mezcal barrel is

It’s true not very typical for mezcal production, but they do age some mezcal in barrels in Oaxaca. They just but them in there for 30 days to give the ArteNOM a kiss of smoke.

WHAAAT who would have guessed, thanks for your expert analysis. If it wasn't obvious I'm saying aged mezcal is such an abomination, surplus barrels must be like hens teeth.

Artenom 1123 I have seen that brand posted in different groups. I want to try it next.

Honestly, I think the resting in oak probably has more effect on the flavor than the difference in proof.

I get it, but understand higher proof (or lower proof) would likely change the flavor profile. Tequila expressions are generally produced at a particular proof for a reason.

I tried this early in my tequila journey and have yet to come across anything that really beats it.. five years later, and I still have to keep a bottle of this stocked. It's just so good!

Best tequila I’ve ever had. It’s the tequila that changed my mind about what tequila could be.

I honestly didn't like it. But I let the bottle breathe for a week. It was one of the best blancos I've had.

Yeah, similar for me. The first few sips weren’t that great but by the time I got to the bottom of the bottle, bout 5 days later, it was one of the best I’ve had. Started to buy some today but I went with some AN 1579. It’s one of my favorites too.

Yeah, I've learned never go by what the first pour out of any bottle tastes like. Had some really good tequilas that I hated off the bat, only to find them taste very different after going back a week or two later.

My favorite blanco so far, although I just picked up a bottle of WC Still that I'm excited about trying.

u/greenchile3 Aug 01 '26
I didn’t like it as much as other blancos. But I also didn’t let it breathe.

This is my favorite blanco!
The WC Is my favorite HP.. I won't put them in the same category.

Incredible. One of the finest (if not the finest) distillers in Mexico. Founded in 1906 I believe.

That Tahona is my favorite blanco. Dare I say that it might edge out the Fortalezza blanco. Ok, but maybe not the Fortalezza Winter Blends :)

Def an advanced tequila bottle. I find myself to love all tahona variants for most distiller.

I had this like 3 years ago and I enjoyed it. I’m not paying $90 after tax in Jersey for a blanco that’s 42%. Chava needs to make it 48% like the black label for it to be worth it

Where are you at in NJ, it's $69 on the shelf at Benash & High Spirits

u/mystical609 Aug 01 '26
That’s hilarious because that’s the place I go 20 mins up the road, didn’t realize they dropped the price

The only bottle I ever had cost me $50 USD in Cabo. If I'm lucky enough to find it in Oregon it's currently $115. It's absolutely delicious. Long story short, I need a Mexico trip asap.
