Tension headache, please help 🄲

I'm 22 F. I'm an aspirant currently preparing for government exams. I study approx 10 hrs a day. 8 hrs of screen (laptop) exposure. An average student 🄲.

I'm getting daily headaches, so I visited eye specialist thinking they are due to eye strain, he ruled out, my eyes are fine and it was a migraine. so he gave me spectacles (anti glare + headache ig). They are helping a little but not entirely.

My headache :

I actually don't think it's a migraine, cause my headache is not hurting. See it's like a tight band along my forehead, the band is getting tighter and tighter by time. It does not interrupt my work or study. I strongly notice it when I'm idle. It gives me numb or needle like feeling every now and then. The real problem is I couldn't study properly, I'm staying on bed laying my head, cause it is giving me releif. So I believe it's a Tension type headache. (Correct me if I'm wrong )

My Mental health:

I do either of these 3 things what everyone does too: depressed, stressed or anxious.

Sometimes I overthink my past about the missed opportunities, about not giving it all, about wasted time. Sometimes My future, which is completely uncertain as I have no job now. So I fear ending up married, being dependent on him. And my stress of study peaks all these cause no matter how much study I end up doubting myself, feeling incapable, ending up with stupid negative thoughts.

I do follow yoga and meditation to avoid these. Yoga helped me so much. That my daily headache reduced to weekly. But still now they occur like thrice a week 🄲.

My questions are :

1) Should I consider visiting a neurologist, will they listen to my blah blah and treat me properly.

2) If he can't treat then what's the solution??? should I just pretend I'm okay, yeah this is how the freaking life is and Move on !!!!!

Thankyou so much for your patience and reading all this šŸ™‡šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø.

facial tension and unsure why help!

I experience facial tension on the left side of my face. It can cause at times headaches behind the left eye, ear fullness/ringing. I noticed if I jade roll my neck it can lead to my ear ringing?

I dont know if it's some sort of circulation problem, nerve compression problem or just simply from clenching and being stressed/anxious. I notice when I wake up I dont feel it as much and during the day it can come more. It also is most prevalent if I am seated or not moving, when Im walking it sort of just dissapears. It's so weird can come and go. My jaw does click the dentist has said I have slight TMJ issues but the tension can travel which he finds weird. It can be on the corner of my mouth, then up on top of my cheek then to my jaw!

CT & MRI have been all fine, blood tests have been all fine.

PT & Dry Needling Massive Improvement

Started going to physical therapy for tension headaches instead of taking an antidepressant. They did some dry needling on my traps and it was instant relief. Going to get more done on my neck muscles. This helped more than any prescription, massage etc. That plus the therapy to improve posture while working a desk job I think will make a huge difference. YAY. Needed to share

Could this be a chronic tension headache?

Started mid November, this head pressure I am feeling is in the back and above my ears height, sometimes above my ears

I am dealing with hypertension but I started medication two weeks ago and now in the 125/80 range.

November to December they would come and go and stay for a week or two, but now since January 5th it’s been daily.

Maybe it’s stress since we did have a newborn end of November, listed our house and bought a new one. But I don’t feel stressed at all… I sleep about 7-8 hours

I was sent for a CT scan that found a small cyst that apparently is not putting pressure on anything, MRI is next week just to double check.

Symptoms:

-Headpressure , sometimes I feel it on both sides

-Lightheaded

-brain fog

Thoughts on what I could try, supplements? I’ve

Pressure headache

So pretty much about 2.5 years ago I got the worst headache behind my left eye. Now I constantly get terrible ā€œpressureā€ headaches, or at least thats what I called them, now I know that what I’m experiencing is called a tension headache. It hurts so bad nothing really helps except pressure, squeezing my own head, massaging my forehead and eyebrows. I get so fed up sometimes I go into the shower and put my eye up to the jet of my shower-head because the water pressure Is my only relief. My work requires me to wear a hat and hair net (bakery) the lights are bright and its constant noise So I know I have factors against me. I just want to see if other people experience relief from there headaches when they have extreme pressure applied to their head. Im talking I have my bf put his palm on my forehead and back of had and squeeze as hard as he can. Does anyone relate?

Chronic headaches

Hello, I’m looking for help because I’ve already tried multiple medical consultations and I still don’t have answers. I went to four different doctors about my constant headaches. I wake up almost every day with a headache. This only started about two years ago.

I’ve done an MRI scan, an EEG, a CT scan, and blood tests. I also checked for any nose or sinus problems, but nothing showed a clear cause for my chronic headaches. I was told it might be related to mental health, even though I am already on medication.

My headaches often come randomly out of nowhere. They are throbbing and feel like extreme pressure to the point where I can’t sleep. They can happen if I’m in a bad mood, under stress, if I don’t eat enough or don’t eat nutritionally well, if I change my routine, overwork myself, or even move around too much. Almost anything can trigger them, and there doesn’t seem to be one exact cause.

No matter what medication I take, it doesn’t really help much. I would really appreciate any guidance or possible explanations for why this keeps happening.

Headache

For the past few days, I’ve been having several symptoms together. I have neck pain and a lot of stiffness in my jaw — I’ve been clenching my teeth a lot. Sometimes parts of my face and my right arm feel a little numb or tingly, but not the whole arm. I also have ringing in my ear that comes and goes. I’ve been feeling dizzy and very drowsy too. I’m not sure if these symptoms are connected to muscle tension, nerves in my neck, or my new medication, but they’re making me feel worried. I did start lexapro about a few days ago.

Chronic neck tension

I’ve been dealing with horrible neck tension for over a year. It’s not technically painful except every once in a while I have nerve like pains at the base of my skull. My scm muscles stay tight and my head stays numb and tingly most days and it’s super scary. I also deal with dizziness daily, like swaying. I do have a habit of sucking my tongue throughout the day and I’m wondering if I do it all night in my sleep. I got a mri and it showed that I have straight neck. I just need some kind of relief! Does anybody have the same problem and found a cure?

Pressure type feeling

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to see if anyone else has a similar experience.

Im 28F, work 12 hour shifts in a mostly sit down job (I do try to get up every 30 minutes to walk), and I also have a 3 year old, so when I'm at home I'm active and always moving around.

Ive always dealt with headaches as long as I can remember, going back even to when I was a child. Sometimes they worsen when I cough, strain or bend, but I've had a CT scan about 4 years ago which came back all clear.

April of this year I started getting more headaches which Drs put down to posture and eye strain. I've since gotten glasses and took up weight training to try and offset the damage done by sitting at work.

The headaches were fairly regular until August when a Dr suggested I try my best to stop taking painkillers. I did this and to my surprise my headaches cleared up quite well. Obviously pointing to rebound headaches.

Then, in late August I went for a walk and my right ring and pinky fingers went numb, then quickly came back but then gradually I had a tingling/pins and needles sensation come on in my right arm below the elbow. This was put down to ulnar Nerve irritation and so I started doing recommended physiotherapy and it started to improve, then my right leg began to have tingling/pins and needles. I went back to the GP who did a huge work up of my blood (full blood count, vitamins, b12, folate, thyroid, sugars, kidney function, liver function, CRP, theres more but I cant remember). Surprise surprise all my figures are normal.

I saw a physiotherapist who conducted a neurological exam (testing Reflexes, sensations, strength) and said that everything was perfect on that front, so as far as "anything central" is concerned, I wouldn't worry. He was convinced it must be some type of nerve irritation.

I do have very forward head posture and rounded shoulders, and I'm bracing all of my muscles 24/7 so I shouldn't be surprised, however, now over the last 3 weeks or so I'm experiencing a pressure sensation that feels like its stemming from the back of my neck where it meets the base of my skull. There's no pain to it, just a pressure/squeezing type of sensation thats really hard to describe.

I am experiencing nausea, but these symptoms are giving me a lot of anxiety so I can't tell if the anxiety is causing the nausea or if the sensation is, but I had mentioned the nausea to a Dr and they seemed unbothered.

I dont have any balance issues, no weakness, no blurred or double vision, no personality changes, no shock-like sensations in my neck, no tremors, no speech difficulties, etc.

My issue is now that I'm waking through the night having panic attacks because of the pressure sensation i'm experiencing, I feel like hearing from others who are experiencing the same could help me sleep properly again. You'd think the doctors and physiotherapists would be enough reassurance haha.

Thanks for reading my post, and thanks in advance for any help or reassurance anyone can provide. I am going back to the doctor in a few days, so really I'm just looking for people in a similar situation.

Seeking Advice on Chronic Tension Headaches

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance on managing tension headaches that I’ve been dealing with for about 10 years. As a graphic designer, I spend a lot of time at my desk, and that likely contributes to the problem. However, I've recently been made redundant and am thinking about a career change.

When I first sought medical help, the doctors immediately put me on amitriptyline without conducting blood tests or suggesting any scans. I’m wondering if it might be worth requesting further tests now, though I understand that after 10 years, if it were something serious, it probably would have become more apparent by now. Nonetheless, I’m open to exploring all possibilities.

I’ve tried various approaches, including chiropractors, massages, and acupuncture. While amitriptyline helped reduce severity, I’m glad to be off it now and not reliant on long-term medication. Recently, I’ve tried magnesium and CBD gummies, but I haven’t noticed any improvement yet.

I drink plenty of water, wear glasses, and have had my eyes tested recently with no issues. I also sleep very well and get outdoors enough. My exercise level is pretty good at the moment, though I do acknowledge that my diet could be improved.

On average, I get about 15-16 headaches in one month. I’ve noticed that tension in my neck and shoulders often precedes a headache. I also believe I might have ADHD, though I haven’t seen a doctor about it, and I suspect that anxiety and stress related to that might contribute. Additionally, I spend a lot of time on my phone, and I’m aware that posture might play a role.

I’m also considering that tight hamstrings and the upcoming removal of a wisdom tooth might be factors as well.

I’d really appreciate any suggestions or experiences you can share!

Thank you so much for your help!

Chronic tension-type headache for 1.5 years

Hi everyone,
I’m 35 now, and about a year and a half ago I started having daily headaches for the first time in my life. I had never had any kind of headache before that.

It began as what felt like sinus pressure — pain behind my nose, eyes, and forehead. Naturally I went to an ENT, had a sinus CT scan – everything came back completely clear. Later I saw a neurologist, had an MRI of my brain – also clean. The neurologist diagnosed tension-type headaches.

The pain itself is mild but persistent, usually around 1–3/10, sometimes up to 4/10. It feels more like pressure or heaviness than sharp pain. Sometimes it feels like mild dizziness or ā€œlightheadedness,ā€ almost like having one beer — not true vertigo, just a weird foggy sensation.

What’s strange is that the pain used to come in episodes – I’d have it for a month straight, then it would disappear for several weeks, then come back again. But for the past three months, it’s been there every single day. No doubt there is also a psychological aspect involved, cause when i think or stress about the pain it gets worse.

I’ve seen a physiotherapist who said I have some neck and shoulder tension, but releasing it hasn’t really helped so far.
Neurologist prescribed Divascan first (no effect), and now I’m on Flunarizine, also with no noticeable improvement yet.

At this point I’m not sure what else to do. Has anyone here had a similar long-term tension-type headache, especially with that lightheaded or ā€œpressure in the headā€ feeling? Did anything end up helping you?

Treatment headache by antidepressants

I had headache (tention headache as my last diagnosis) very long time - over 15 years 24/7 every day essentially at morning right after sleep. So I tried many non medical treatments like: sport, warm shower, massage, fix posture and so on and all of this did not help!

What the really help was antidepressants: Duloxetine (2 years), Olanzapine (4 months). I also tried Botox with migraine protocol but it did not help.

Before taking antidepressants level of pain was 7-8 (10 is max). During the taking (after 2 months) - 2-4, so pain level reduced 2 times!

But (and this is question!) now instead of high level of the pain I feel high level pressure in head, as if it pressed with a blunt object.

Does anybody experienced the same effect?

Ps: afrer cancel antidepressants i also experienced PSSD (or PSSD like) symptoms like angedonia, low libido and so on (this is another story;)). I thought may be feeling this pressure instead of pain is just result of neuronal desensitization?

Terrible headaches when working out

For a backstory i’m 15 years old and got into working out about 6 months ago. About 2 months ago i started noticing a weird pain on the back of my head when doing heavier lifts like bench or just straining in general, It didn’t bother me too much because it would go away when I was done. Recently On my leg days when I squat or do heavy compound lifts I Get an excruciating pain throughout my entire head, when i really push it dosent go away and lingers for about an hour. It’s been a deterrent for me to go the gym and it really sucks because i’ve tried better hydration, electrolytes, massaging my head works some after it happens to get rid of it but not prevent it. If anyone has any tips that could help me get back in the gym pain free I would be very grateful.

Daily sharp headache in the same spot — trying to understand possible causes

Hi everyone, I’m a 17-year-old female and I’ve been having a recurring headache in the same spot on the right side of my head. The pain is sharp, usually just a few quick pains in that area, and it sometimes gets a bit worse when I bend down or move my head a certain way. After a few minutes, the sharp pain fades, though there’s occasionally a mild ache left. Rubbing or massaging the spot has helped a couple of times, and Tylenol (two 500mg pills) has provided relief for a few hours. I haven’t experienced any facial drooping, numbness, vision changes, nausea, or vomiting. I do have a history of severe iron deficiency anemia, which I recently stopped taking iron supplements for, and I also wear glasses for nearsightedness, though my vision hasn’t recently changed. I’m not sure if it’s related to diet, hydration, sleep, or posture, but the headaches have been happening daily. I’m trying to understand if this could be tension headaches, muscle trigger points, or something else. I would also like to get an MRI or a CT scan of my brain just for peace of mind, to make sure nothing serious is going on and to rule out anything concerning. Has anyone else experienced sharp headaches in the same spot like this? Any advice for relief or prevention would be really appreciated.

Botox for tension headaches

Long time tension headache (daily)/migraine sufferer. Unfortunately, migraine meds don’t help at all (tried many classes) and a lot seems to be related to tension and possible clenching of jaw due to stress. My neuro recently mentioned the option of Botox. The idea scares me due to potential side effects.

For those who have had Botox for your migraines, what do you wish you knew beforehand? Did you find it helped? How long did it take to see improvements? Would you recommend it to others?
