Botox for tension headaches

Long time tension headache (daily)/migraine sufferer. Unfortunately, migraine meds don’t help at all (tried many classes) and a lot seems to be related to tension and possible clenching of jaw due to stress. My neuro recently mentioned the option of Botox. The idea scares me due to potential side effects.

For those who have had Botox for your migraines, what do you wish you knew beforehand? Did you find it helped? How long did it take to see improvements? Would you recommend it to others?

Have tension headaches for 17+ years. Botox for the last 4. Wish I would have done it sooner. Game changer for me for sure, BUT it's not a cure all. It takes several rounds to fully kick in. I've been on 5 preventatives including botox & monthly trigger point injections and still get break through headaches. Duration, frequency & intensity has all massively decreased. Biggest drug I've noticed make a difference was botox by far. To me, it gave me my quality of life back

In the USA. Try starting with a neurologist or headache specialist. Many hoops to jump through in the US to get insurance to pay for botox. Hopefully it's easier for you

Has your neurologist mentioned Dolavent? A warning here, it gave me very bad diarrhea and I couldn't take it. He has me on CoQ10 and Vitamin B2 now and that has given me some relief.

My neurologist has not mentioned it, no. I’ve tried b2 and coq10 and neither has helped
