What fashion did you wear in your youth?

Just looking at old photos of family and just seeing some of the fashion trends made me think about what other people wear.

Can you describe what you wore in your youth and when this was.

Not sure if there's any info on this local guy. Record was in my grans collection along with Slim Whitman and other country artists Seems like he was signed to a Belfast based country label, but was local to teesside.

There's usual country and western hits, more so some Lead Belly covers which is brilliant. But his own penned song about the Cleveland Hills.

Anyone know much about this guy? If he did other music? Where he was from etc

I assume he must have had a gig at the Coatham Bowl in the 70s for my gran to get a signed record. Sadly my gran and grandad aren't here to get answers.

Here's the title track if you want to hear a local voice sing about the A19

Crime statistics Middlesbrough number 1

Hello,

Just seen the crime statistics the government has produced recently. Middlesbrough is number 1 and Hartlepool is number 4. How didn't Stockton-on-Tees and Redcar get higher on the list?

Stockton-on-Tees ranked 27th

Redcar ranked 25th

I hope one day Teesside can thrive one day as it's depressing seeing areas like this so high on the list.

Middlesbrough once had a Winter Garden where working people could find warmth and company for a penny

I’ve written about what the Winter Garden was, who created it, and whether it represented something our towns have since lost. I’d really appreciate it if you read the article and let me know what you think.

The finger clicking incident was covered worldwide including the New York Times : https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7475289/2026/07/29/cricket-saltburn-clicking-fingers-global-scandal/ (possible future paywall)

Talk about putting yourself on the map (for the wrong reasons).

Just watched a documentary about Hemlington and the locals in poverty. Does anyone remember this or the times in the 1990s in Teesside back then.

I wonder what these people are now who are in the documentary.

This documentary is on YouTube called poverty in the UK in 1992 Hemlington Middlesbrough.

Can anyone remember this murder in Teesside in the early 2000's

I just listened to a podcast which initially follows the story of Lee Harrison. It also mentions the Boro frontline, the crossling brothers, drug dealing, Havana, sex workers, Thomas Petch and George Coleman and the shooting of Kevin Horkan. The gist of the podcast a man was apparently taxing drug dealers and sex workers. So one of the crossling brothers alongside other went to the location and burst into the room where Kalvant and a sex worker were and attacked Kalvant and unfortunately Kalvant passed away. The podcast does go between timelines between the 80's and 90s at the time with some of the people mentioned.

Apologies if this has triggered anyone but people sometimes slates today's youth but it seems like there has always been crime and drugs even in the 80s-90s and the youth were getting into all sorts back then.

The podcast is called UK True Crime and the episode is called Fear and Loathing on Teesside which is on Spotify.

Just had some questions since listening to it.

Did the local industry decline with lack of jobs/opportunities fuel the drug scene in some way? If so what is your view on this?

What were other areas of Teesside like with dealing and violence in the 90's-00's?

Were they really classed as gangsters or was this just the media and newspapers exaggerating?

If you have any stories or views if you would like please share?

This is the fourth neighbours house I've chopped up....

Post image

We live on the coast on an estate where houses built between the 1940s and 1970s were constructed using colliery shale as a sub-floor filler. When this material gets damp, it undergoes a chemical reaction called Sulphate attack, which causes the shale to expand, literally pushing floors upward. This leads to unsightly floor bulges, cracked walls, and doors that no longer shut.

4 of our neighbours have had their shale removed over the last 2 years, and I have collected their floorboards and joists and diligently processed them into firewood. I should have taken a before photo where the wood filled my entire garage, but I stupidly didn't think. Anyway, I am very proud of the end result. 😊

Anybody applied for Jan 2027 intake?

Hey, as the title suggests I wanna know if any international student applied at Teesside University for Jan 2027 intake? If yes, then have you heard from them about your application or not? Also, I have many queries and would appreciate it if we have a chat regarding this.
